    That Ford has a 4R70W or 4R75E transmission. I would guess that the intermittent problem is the connector inside the pan --- where the molded (internal harness) and main connector meet. I have same problem, but when i pull over and restart, drives normally & no trans fault alert. Thank goodness FORD doesn't run TCC wires thru uncooled fuse box on passenger kick panel. I am also suspecting decayed insulation on the harness connector wires outside of the transmission (which is where i will begin a visual inspection (after removing tape and harness protection) since this truck has spent time in the northern USA. 🇺🇸

    Thank you for this video, this helped me with my transmission. I do have a 2006 FX4 and when checking the TCC resistance it was the two outer pins on harness 6:40. 3 and 4

    Intermittent solenoid coil wire based on what I saw in another video. Great approach to detect this

    When diagnosing circuit like in this video have you ever considered a load test from controller to component? Just curious

    I'm not sure about the F-150 but I know Ford sent out Technical Service Bulletin for the Explorer/Mountaineer regarding the A/C drain positioned right above the Transmission wiring causing the wires to corrode and the transmission to malfunction and/or send CEL codes. Pretty simple fix. 3/4 heater hose and a worm clamp to reroute the drain away from the trans and replacing the transmission wire harness. Hope this is the source of your problem and it helps.

    The internal "wiring harness", which is a hardwire incased in plastic. All the solenoids have flat pins which the hard wire harness snaps onto. Possible the rebuilder didn't make sure harness was snapped on correctly. Bet if you if you wiggle the inside harness, you would find you intermittent lockup problem. Internal harness connects to the pressure control solenoid, lockup solenoid, and the two shift solenoids, which share the same bracket. All that banging on the pan won't do anything. the harness doesn't come in contact with the pan . Easy to check. drop the pan and lightly pull on connections. shouldn't have play. Should be a good amount of resistance unsnaping from the solenoids.

    Same thing happened to me after I put a trans in what happened was I ran the wire harness to close to the head and the headers the extra heat melted the harness your trans temp sensor wire is at the bottom of the wire look and it melts first and as it dose it grounds out again the headers or the head and it gives you way high readings and it will trip this code

    • @texashillcountryadv9197
      @texashillcountryadv9197 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If u are seeing big swings in trany temps like it’s 185 then 2 seconds later it’s 257 you need to look at your wire harness because it’s rubbing somewhere and when they hit a high enough temp this code come on

      @@texashillcountryadv9197 thanks for the info. No headers on this truck so bit more room. Seems fine now since the solenoid repair.

    I have a lot of trans fluid in case connector plug. I changed the whole trans harness and still have o/d and trans fault. Should I reset trans codes or do you think it’s internal?

    • @PhillipBailey
      @PhillipBailey  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the code won't clear then you still have a problem. Yes could be internal.

    I have a 2004 F150 Lariat 5.4 4x4 Truck: I recently experienced my O/D flashing while towing my boat but only happened juts before I got home. When i got home I noticed I had no reverse and only drive. I changed the neutral safety switch and checked all fuses and relays/solenoids. My truck will only go in reverse and when I shift to drive, it will not move at all. Truck will not move in any gear except reverse. Do you think it is my transmission wheel speed sensor or transmission solenoid? My fluid is good and my friend checked for codes and noticed nothing. What am I missing?

    • @PhillipBailey
      @PhillipBailey  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Doesn't sound good. What are you using to check for codes. If the OD light was flashing there will be a code in the transmission controller. Need a decent scan tool. An OBD2 tool will typically only scan the engine. If it won't go into drive and the transmission is actually full there has to be a code or codes in the transmission controller. Good luck

    • @dvocho
      @dvocho 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Phillip Bailey it goes into drive but doesn’t move when I give it gas. Initially I lost reverse and only had drive. Switched the safety neutral switch and got reverse but no drive. Weird

    • @PhillipBailey
      @PhillipBailey  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dvocho You need a decent scanner to retrieve and transmission related codes. Could be an electronic issue as reverse is mechanical and does not require solenoids but without codes we are just guessing. I hope its not a problem with the shift cable. Does the PRNDL actually display that its in drive? Does it go into manual 2 or low and display those selections?

    Mine dies as I switch it to gear immediately. Could be the TCC solenoid that makes the torque converter engage when in park. and unengaged when in drive. Same problem but it's one thing different not moving

    • @PhillipBailey
      @PhillipBailey  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      On rare occasions a stuck TCC solenoid can lockup the torque converter and cause it to stall when put into drive. It would feel like you let your foot off the clutch on a manual transmission too fast. Does it try to jump forward when you put in drive? I've seen that symptom but not on this transmission. Will it stay running if you give it gas when you drop into drive? Any fault codes?

      @@kawonu2666 those are cam timing codes. If the engine is not running correctly it may not have enough power to keep up with the load when put into drive. What happens if you give it more gas and select drive. I havent seen TCC stuck on issues on these but thats possible. good luck

      @@PhillipBailey If I give it gas before it dies it has tons of power and everything sounds great. Every now and then I can start it and it will run right and idle good everything. But most of the time it's seems to be a low erratic idle. I have new plugs and coils also.

    • @PhillipBailey
      @PhillipBailey  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you need to have it scanned to start with. The flashing OD light is a sign that the transmission controller is setting a code. Probably transmission slipping or TCC slipping but the code/s would help. good luck
