Very informative. Helped me solve my O/D Off flashing issue. Thanks for sharing.
Danny - We're glad it helped! We strive to help anyone at any skill level.
Same. We have a 2003 Toyota Matrix. It was reassuring to watch this video and here him say the year of his truck being as old as our car. Plus the definition of the O/D system of the vehicle helped me continue to self diagnose our situation. Thanks!
Maribel - Glad to hear this! We hope you were able to resolve your Matrix.
Thanks for the DIY tutorial. I'm going to purchase these OBD2 scanner and use it for my troubleshooting. I'm hoping I'm just loose on fluid 🤞🤞
H - Thanks for the feedback! Hope it was helpful.
What caused mine was a bad psom in the dash cluster. I just replaced the entire dash cluster with a rebuilt one and it solved all my hard shifting and OD light flashing issues. There’s a sensor on your rear end and there’s a sensor on the back of your transmission and the psom in the dash and they are all communicating with each other, so if one fails is when your od light starts flashing and your transmission will start hard shifting. There’s one other thing that I’ve seen causing this problem and that’s when the third brake light is knocked out sometimes the od light will start flashing and the hard shifting follows behind.
T - Thanks for taking the time to share your experience. This will certainly help future viewers.
What does PSOM stand for?
@@groot_offroad2958 Programmable Speedometer Odometer Module a.k.a. the PSOM
A - Thanks for taking the time to answer Groot!
I’m guessing I have the same issue because I’ve learnt if I just smack the dash once or twice it stops flashing and shifts fine
Great video. My 7.3 Ex is not shifting smoothly btw 0 and 30 mph. Od light is flashing and I am getting p1832 and p1876 on forscan. Any thoughts on next steps? Thank you
Tom - as a first step I'd recommend checking fuses and relays and making sure those are all good. It seems like these codes are tied to electrical issues a lot of the time. Think its fuse #27 that likes to go bad but double check your manual/fuse box diagram.
Possibly a sticking shift solenoid but more than likely time for a rebuild.
Awesome video, gonna try this on my 2000 3.0 Ranger.
Buster - Thanks for the feedback! Keep us updated.
did you find a fix?
Check your speed sensor. They sometimes become corroded due to moisture incursion.
Had same problem on 96 ford vanand it was the speed cluster that sits behind speedometer. Nobody mentions thus. Speed sensor sends signal to cluster then to PCM
T - Thanks for sharing this insight!
Very interesting video! we have exactly this issue too on our ford 200 F350. Sometimes the OD is flashing also sometime the code P0720 pops up but also the P1876. I also realised that water from the windshield went into the car. I noticed a weird noise from the following relay: F57B-14B192-AA
Funny thing is that this issue only appeared when there was rain of course.
Now I sealed the leak. I guess this will solve all problems but not sure if I have to replace the relay? because it didnt get wet only the cable which are connected to this relay :) What do you think?
Getting the flashing tow/haul truck is wanting to almost die like stall when I come to a stop or while in park the dash like flickers/dims and trucks acting like it’s kinda missing while in park
Torque converter
I have a 2001 f350 with newly rebuilt transmission. The od light was blinking before the rebuild. Now 2 months later it is blinking again. But the transmission is shifting fine
D - Thanks for sharing your experience. Could be a sensor sense it's a newly rebuilt transmission.
i have a 02 f150 (5.4L V8 triton) and it’s running right at 4k rpm’s sometimes 4100 rpm’s when i’m going 70-75mph. haven’t put it over that since i got it not long ago, any ideas on what might be wrong with it? i don’t know much about trucks, but i don’t think the rpm’s should be that high 😂
I should look into this on my truck. Been having issues with mine on and off for 2 years don’t no how many garages and dealers the trucks been to and how much I’ve spent on them just tossing parts at it let alone the tow bill 😂
Jason - Sorry to hear! Keep us posted.
Dude same exact situation here glad to hear I’m not alone but I feel for you , third transmission and last night boom it turned on after I thought a new tranny would fix it …. Now back to the shop that never seems to fix the problem for longer than a couple months , and I love the 99 too much to get a new truck so I’m in it like 12,000 now
N - Keep us updated!
I need help with this, recently tried to fix this on my 2000 Ford Expedition. What's weird is that the light only flashes when I'm outside of Park if I shift back to park it fixes itself so I think is just a electrical problem.
I would suggest scanning for transmission codes...just because it doesn't blink in park doesn't mean there isn't a problem...my guess is whatever the problem is only occurs while in gear and not in park which would make sense why it doesn't blink in park.
@@8020Media got it scanned at an AutoZone, it was just the connection on the neutral safety switch that corroded. Replaced the part and truck shifting smooth now and overdrive light is off.
K - Love hearing that! Thanks for sharing your experience, this will certainly help future viewers!
What if I don’t get any light for a 2001 Silverado mine doesn’t shift hard but the rpm isn’t working how it’s supposed too
C - Are you getting any engine codes or check engine lights?
Does this work for GM vehicles as well
G - Not likely. This video is targeted directly at early Ford's.
Mine is blinking and flashing idk if thats normal but this is the first time ive seen it and ive been driving it for like 6 months. I have a mercury mountaineer 2000 im kinda scared im barely know anything about cars
C - Hopefully this video assists! It may be worth taking it to a shop with this information.
Great video, The name of that scanner sounds dangerously close to "foreskin" tho 😂😂😂
W - Unfortunately it does lol. We made sure to annunciate as best as we could!
That's a flash mine is a flicker mine must be a short in the wire harness cuz I blew a fuse and got it back running but it's doing this now
S - If it is flashing, that likely means there's a transmission issue.
If tho OD “off” Is illuminated does that mean it’s on or off
I - If it's a solid off then its off, if its blinking it means transmission issue.
Uggh I've been trying to diagnose the OD issue for almost 2 years. No mechanic seems to be able to figure it out.
Rum - Sorry to hear about this! What vehicle do you have?
Hi, I have a 1994 corolla. So far, (within the last two years) I have had 4 brand new alternators & new batteries installed, new pcv valve & grommet, new speed sensor, replaced the fule injectors, checked electrical for short (but I dont think the mechanics have actually taken the time to check), New iridium spark plugs, replaced air filter, replaced battery terminals, new motor mounts, New front suspension (control arms, sway bar links, bushings, drive shafts). I have been doing research and I think maybe it could be the Throttle Position Sensor?
Other symptoms my car has is it has a squealing noise near the alternator. I'm not sure if the mechanic at some point changed the belts in one of those 4 instances where he replaced the alternator. I also suspect the pulleys may need replacing although the belt and the pulleys look fairly new but I I suspect one of those things could be causing the alternator and battery to go bad and also causing the OD light to flash. Or maybe the TPS is causing those issues. I don't know I am so frustruated.

@@rumithesquirrel7816 its not tps. its likely the circuit board attached to the speedometer. you can send it in for repair. either that or something internal to the transmission, like the shift solenoid pack.
My mustang has close to 300,000 on it and if i can make it a little longer to fix my truck up. Ill tear what i need to apart, i belive the valve body beeds replacing but ill get it scanned i just need like a little more time. Do not die on me now lol
J - Keep us updated!
Mine is flashing and my door window modules stay illuminated on each door even when off
Q - Sorry to hear this. What have you done so far?
Check your rail Sensor , 100%
A - Good point.
Sir anong parts ang sira kc ganyan din ung ford escape ko
Battery disconnected nawawala pero babalik din
JD - do you have an engine code reader? This will help diagnose the parts causing the problem
Brother is electrical problem. I have the same issue
Rfer - We hope the video helps!
This is just an ad for the scanner
R - It's not. We don't get paid from it. This is about helping others solve problems with their vehicles. Good try though.
The suspense is killing me...was the code correct, did that fix the issue?
I haven't addressed it yet, mine only flashes intermittently and it seems perfectly fine in cold weather so probably something I will fix after the winter assuming it keeps holding fine in winter. But I'll make a vid on it when I do
What was the Easy Fix?
If the transmission is shifting hard and that light flasher you’re screwed. Newer vehicles suck period. They design them to fail.
R - This is usually on older vehicles.. but we agree with the new vehicles take. They certainly don't make them like they used to.
@@8020Media Actually I just fixed mine took me 15 minutes. Tail shaft speed sensor had built up some corrosion. Thankfully my 54.00 code reader told me what to look for. 😂
R - Nice. Crazy what an OBD2 scanner can do. Thanks for sharing your experience!
So other words, you didn’t show what it was thanks
M - Show what what was?
