  • Customer requests Overdrive Service due to lack of Overdrive on a 2006 5.4L F-150, 4wd, Auto.
This was how I did it and it went smoothly. In hindsight, I could've done it without removing the Valve body cover at the beginning but was unsure which bolts went all the way through to the transmission.
A little note on sizes off the top of my head.. mostly 10mm.
    10mm Oil Pan - 2 valve body hold-down bolts - 2 gear position bolts.
8mm on most valve body bolts.
I think the shifter lever was a 15mm.
A pair of needle nose pliers and a small pick.
Not a difficult job as long as you have a little patience and a little preparation.
Good luck and holler in the comments if you've got any questions.

So the actual issue was just the solenoid?

So have you gotten it repaired to confirm what the problem was?

I have the same problem on my 06 Ford F150 where 1st and 2nd gear are good when it goes to shift to 3rd it neutrals out. Did you have the same problem? at first i thought it would be a broken snap ring from the OD servo but that was not the case when I opened and removed the Valve Body It was all good. I don’t have a check engine light on or codes. Do you think it’s the solenoid??

      Answer:
I've had a couple I've done where the snap ring on the servo was toasted went well.
This one was a client's hail-mary attempt to not swap their transmission.
I wasn't too convinced it would work since it neutraled out after 3rd and the servo is technically for OD.
