    You know, one thing I really liked about the city of Zootopia, was that it was pretty much set up like one HUGE Disney park with different eco-environment, monorails, trams, conveyor belt sidewalks, sky cars. I would love to live in a city with that kid public transport that's useful, pretty and fun.

    I can think of a few reasons why James Cameron's Avatar has mostly been forgotten. The thing is, they never bothered to continue making material for it for years after its release. There was no equivalent to the Star Wars Expanded Universe to keep the movie's recognition going. Most of our modern blockbusters seem to go in one ear and out the other culturally unless they're part of a big franchise or film universe. It's difficult to create the staying power of a Star Wars or Star Trek these days from scratch. Pop culture and entertainment are much more saturated and fast moving so that their impact are much diminished. It's no surprise then, that some of the biggest current franchises revolve around characters that are decades old.

      I'd also argue that since the appeal of Avatar was purely visual, it couldn't sustain interest through merchandising, video release, etc.

    Playing the Devil's Advocate here, I'm looking forward to the final result of Pandora: The World of Avatar. The story for the original movie was between "meh" and "okay", but as an art and writing nut, I downright admire the efforts put into worldbuilding and that there's potential for different stories in that same world (via "Toruk" from Cirque du Soleil). I did a final project in Art class that drew from that potential and built a smaller story around going to Pandora for a college scholarship on social studies (on Na'vi culture) and being a student in some group of scientists and soldiers. But I digress.

    I love hearing you ramble on about the parks and their updates, Tony. Being a theme park nerd is such a niche thing but I'm glad you've stuck with it.
    By the way, my friends and I took a roadtrip and stopped off in Orlando in August to visit Universal. We didn't even know the new Kong ride was even a thing until we got there and it was wicked cool.

    A Wreck-It Ralph ride would be awesome, but what I'd love to see at the Disney parks more than anything is a Zootopia-themed area. I know it probably won't happen and would be a super ambitious and expensive addition, but that movie practically BEGS for the theme park treatment. Certainly more so than Cars.

    I don't think the First Order ride is going to purely be a motion simulator. I think it may be something closer to Dinosar/Indiana Jones or Spider-Man/Transformers.
    As for ET, I doubt Universal is going to want to piss of Spielberg too much so maybe that'll be part of some buffer area along with the weird spongebob gift shop before Nintendo World.

    • @TonyGoldmark
      @TonyGoldmark  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, Spider-Man/Transformers is basically "Indy/Dinosaur combined with motion simulators" so we'll see.
      We'll see what happens, but honestly...Spielberg hasn't had a hit film (that wasn't a sequel of a decades-old franchise) for a while now. And now that Universal has Harry Potter, Nintendo, The Simpsons and Illumination to play with, I don't think they think they need Spielberg anymore.

    Turning Avatar land into Zootopia is a much better idea until someone visionary enough to help Disney accept supernatural creatures in a feature length movie with about supernatural creatures that might be commenting on this video as I am (me). As for them park related news, Disney released a VR simulator app that will carry the legacy of rides long gone. I'm mixed about this since the fanboys will whine that this is fanservice while non Disney Park locals like me will be like HOLY SMOKES I'M ON CAPTAIN EO! Also, you might want to check out the game Epic Mickey since the first level encourages you to run a rampage on It's A Small World.

    Pandora sounds awesome. The animatronics look astounding, the River Journey through the plants sounds beautiful, Flight of Passage will be a more intense Soarin (bonus points for another thrill ride) and the floating mountains really immerse you. While the movie isn't popular anymore, there will still be more movies. Look at Splash Mountain, people love that ride despite 99% of people never seeing Song of the South

      I suppose this could be more of a temporary sentiment thing, and they might come back in a few years while traditional toy guns could go the way of the dodo. Speaking of, I wonder if they'll do anything about Frontierland Shooting Gallery with the realistic (though in fixed positions) guns?

    • @SuperAwesomeness64

      I heard that he specifically was so incensed when they closed E.T. in Hollywood, he vowed to never work with them again if they closed the one in Florida. But, I don't think he can legally REMOVE Jurassic Park from their parks at this point.

    Neil Patrick Harris actually had his honeymoon in Disneyland(or World) so he is actually a huge fan. Went to Disneyland last January instead of the usual annual visit to WDW. I could not believe how long the lines were! And this was during off peak! But I think was shocked me more was the fact that the lines MOVED! Maybe it was due to the amount of annual pass holders being used to things, but OMG! People seemed to realize that bag or no bag, they were going to be checked, so they had everything out and unzipped, ready to go almost as if they had spent all that time watching others being checked, and decided that they could save their own time preparing before they got to them. CA security actually spent more time going through my things each day than FL security ever did, yet the lines still moved faster. How?

    If I were to guess the First Order Star Wars ride could be similar to the Pirate ride in Shanghai. Judging from the test video it has that kinda feel to it even though it's not gonna be on a boat plus I heard that they're gonna use audio animatronic Storm Troopers for it. Again it's a guess. I could be 100% wrong.
    They did banned Louis from the new Magic Kingdom show for 2 weeks because of that alligator incident.
    I wanna say something about the King Kong ride but I don't wanna spoil it for you.
    I honestly do have a soft spot for Stitch's Great Escape but I understand the hate. Plus it's NOWHERE NEAR AS GREAT AS ALIEN ENCOUNTER!
    Epcot's overall update is for the best! I mainly love Epcot just for their World Showcase. The "future" side is alright but it does show it's age and I feel there are some things that either needs to go or change. It'll be great to see Epcot do something new and different with Figment than...whatever the hell the new ride is right now.
    12:15 - 12:32 That part was great XD
    If the Fantasmic rumor is true then I'm all for it! It's the nice change of pace for a show that's been playing for 25 years. I wish the show in Florida could get an massive upgrade.
    I'm with you on Jimmy Fallon. I don't know how that's gonna turn out.
    Avatar land...It's best to say that it's gonna look pretty...yay?

    Also Universal bought Wet and Wild, the big local water park in Orlando. It closed its doors last year in December and the new huge volcanic themed water park is already under construction and set to open later this year, there are already tons of commercials for it, being called "The third gate" for Universal.

    I've heard rumors that the First Order ride will involve people getting out of the ride vehicle, walking around, and then get into another ride vehicle. Also it'll contain multiple stories in one show building. I have no idea how they're gonna time all of that or prevent tourists from touching the animatronics but it sounds incredibly cool regardless. Also looking at an early map of Disneyland with the Star Wars land expansion, it looks like Critter Country won't be a dead end anymore, which is one thing that always annoyed me.

    • @weirdotzero7065
      @weirdotzero7065 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Here's the thing(that Tony brought up in an earlier video).
      Universal only got the rights to Marvel's most popular characters circa 1990s.
      Guardians of the Galaxy wasn't really popular until the MCU film.
      Meaning, Universal never got the GotG rights in the first place.

    • @TonyGoldmark
      @TonyGoldmark  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's true - GOTG was NOT included in the Universal deal. As long as they don't put the Marvel logo anywhere near the ride, Disney World can do whatever they want with it.

    I agree; making a district dedicated to Avatar?! That's not even a Disney movie, it was distributed by 20th Century Fox, wtf?! They should have made a district dedicated to Zootopia, that would have fit with Animal Kingdom a million times more than Avatar. But who knows, I'm predicting Pandora to be a colossal let down and Disney World will decide to convert it to a Zootopia themed land.

    Honestly, when I did go to Universal Florida, Race Through New York was probably one of my favorite rides, only behind the Potter ones. The flying theater effects are ridiculously effective, and because of the way it's built the queue times are incredibly short. The kong animatronic was also, indeed, very cool, though the 3D through the rest of the ride was also good enough that I had to take my glasses off at that part to appreciate that it wasn't an effect.
    They can replace Poseidon's Fury whenever they feel like it though, please, that was absolutely not worth the wait and cramming that many people into those tiny rooms is nauseating. Keep the beautiful exterior and gut the insides for something deserving of all that majesty that doesn't just feel like a really long and slow preshow.

    Hello Some Jerk With a Camera!
    I am an Orlando Resident and a Season Passholder for Universal Studios Florida... So here's what I know, or at least what I've heard.
    We don't have any details on the attractions of Super Nintendo World, but, I'm predicting a heavy focus on Mario, Pokemon, Legend of Zelda and POSSIBLY Splatoon since that seems to have taken off.
    As for WHERE it's going to be, I've heard everything from the other side of I-4, to replacing Woody Woodpecker's Kid Zone as you heard too. BUT... I have heard from multiple sources (none of which were Execs) that E. T. Adventure isn't going anywhere. Steven Spielberg apparently has a soft spot for the ride, so even though it's now the only original attraction left in the park, it's staying.
    I do know from going to Halloween Horror Nights there is a vacant lot where mild construction has been happening since at least 2011. It's a bunch of office trailers right now and the like. The location is currently not in the direct guest area except for when the queue is present for Halloween Horror Nights, but where the new Fast and Furious attraction was formally out of guest area as well. As far as sense as to where Super Nintendo World will be, this vacant lot is the most logical. But who knows.
    And as for Avatar World... I'll quote a re-occurring bit from the Bill and Ted's Excellent Halloween Adventure show...
    "I'M KING OF THE WORLD! And by world, I mean Avatar World! Opening in 2097! ...IF ANYONE STILL GIVES A SHIT!"
    And the crowd goes wild.

      Famous Draven I heard a rumor that Spielberg was pissed when he found out the were closing the Hollywood E.T., and that if they close Orlando's, he'll force Universal to remove properties that he's worked on from the parks. And from what I know, Universal doesn't want to lose Jurassic Park.

    Honestly Jerk, I kinda wish Disney would bring back the Wonders of Life pavilion with a mixture of new state of the art concepts and some of the old attractions as well. And a fun fact, when the Kong ride opened, it kept breaking down, some of the jeeps were going less than a inch an hour. No spoilers.

  • @uniquelancelot
    @uniquelancelot 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    So I've done race through new york was a little nuts. I did it during dress rehearsals and got stuck on it for about an hour. The ride itself was fun. If you don't watch his show you aren't going to get many of the references but they do use a callback line system and have live entertainment in the queue, I would check it out once if you have time but otherwise don't. Although I am feuding with universal though, so I don't plan on ever seeing it now that it's open.

    I've heard people say that Spielberg has been against Universal removing the ET ride, plus we don't actually know where SNW is going into Florida (other rumors said it might replace Marvel Superhero Island at IOA).
    Some park news from the NorCal regions where I am, California's Great America got a new Mass Effect 4D ride in 2016, and it is amazing! It's basically the original Star Tours mixed with T23D, with a live actor instead of an animatronic piloting the ship. And speaking of, in that same year CGA announced a new expansion that would include new rides (including a long rumored hyper coaster), and an entertainment district in a similar style to Downtown Disney/Citywalk/Knott's Marketplace. From what I heard, this expansion is supposed to be happening over the next 20 years, and is sort of starting with converting the stand-up coaster Vortex into a floorless coaster this year.
    Also, technically, the first trackless ride in the US is supposed to be a shooter ride called Challenge of Mondor at the Enchanted Forest park in Oregon, which opened prior to Rollickin Roadsters.

    • @TonyGoldmark
      @TonyGoldmark  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well...it'll fill the space, certainly, and a damn sight better than Camp Minnie-Mickey ever did. Like I said, I'm sure it'll be fun, immersive, interactive and almost obscenely pretty, as all great theme park lands should be...but thematically, and symbolically? The point of Animal Kingdom's earliest concepts was always to present living animals, extinct animals, and mythological animals. Beastly Kingdomme would've given us iconic creatures out of legend and myth, like dragons and unicorns and such, not just whatever wacky critters popped out of James Cameron's head. As-is, the Africa/Asia sections are the Adventureland equivalent, The Dino Institute is the Tomorrowland equivalent, and without Beastly Kingdomme, the park had no Fantasyland equivalent. And now that that quota's being filled...it's only being filled by one movie. And a Fantasyland with only one movie would be kinda boring.

    D. Thoughts on Guardians and Ratatouille coming to Epcot ?
    E. Thoughts on Paradise Pier becoming Pixar Pier ?

    • @TonyGoldmark
      @TonyGoldmark  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      A. Conflicted. I'll miss it dearly, and I wish they were at LEAST waiting til Toy Story Land opens before shuttering arguably THE ride of DHS...but damn it, there is literally NOTHING I don't love about what they revealed about Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railroad.
      B. VERY good idea. Not as good as it replacing Cranium Command, but sometimes ya gotta let things go.
      C. Awesome. To hell with the Tomorrowland Speedway.
      D. Both awesome. The purists' ideal of a character-free EPCOT never worked. I wants mah Ratatouille ride. And I'm glad the Guardians ride apparently WON'T be a Mission Breakout clone, that'd be too redundant with Tower Of Terror.
      E. I'll give it the benefit of the doubt, but it just sounds dumb to me. Didn't they JUST retheme that whole area to Mickey & Friends a few years ago?
      F. Yes. But it can't and won't be CALLED Marvel Land due to the Universal contract.
