    Quite a few things I wanted to comment on:
    -Man, you tapped my nostalgia hard with two of those promo video intros: the 2005 DisneyWorld DVD (which you used for Disney Quest) was one I had as a kid and one I still play with my little sister as a fun tradition when we get excited for a trip (the characters are goofy, but at least they stick out in my mind, Dave in particular). Then the mid-90s DisneyWorld VHS (which you used for Ellen's Energy Adventure) was one I had found in a GoodWill back when I still had a VHS player, and it was fun seeing all the differences in what was available (plus, on the particular year I got, it had this lengthy promo for the Disney Institute that's really funny to look back on because, wow, they _really_ were trying hard to make it work).
    -Yeah, Disney Quest had a big problem with being relevant; the original stuff that held up were more traditional rides like the Cyber Astro Blasters (or whatever they were called), which were basically bumper cars with foam-ball cannons, and the stuff that satisfied thrills like Cyber Space Mountain (though my chicken self still only made a 2/5 intensity coaster for my final visit). The VR rides like Pirates, Jungle Cruise, and Aladdin were...iffy; the texture quality was stuck in the 90s with nary an update, and the controls were sometimes a tad bunk: Jungle Cruise tried to simulate rowing a boat, but the feedback was a little ambiguous to whether you really had that much influence, and Aladdin had a weird motorcycle-ish system for moving on the carpet that led to quite a few sessions where one of my party would get stuck on a wall or mistime a jump to fall to their in-game doom. The place as a whole suffered from a lack of love: after little more than a decade, one of the more thrilling attractions, one where you donned a virtual sword and sliced at bad guys in an on-rails VR adventure, was closed, and by the end, an ExtraTERRORestrial themed tank simulation closed-room experience was also shuttered, rendering a whole floor of the building half-obsolete. What kept the place going by the end were modern arcade games; I recall in particular the hub room of the building having Temple Run prominently displayed, and one of the most common places I'd hit was the rhythm game section which had modern versions of DDR and Pump it Up for me to work out to. There was also an attempt to bring some more first-party stuff to the place once Wreck It Ralph gave a gimme, and while the Fix it Felix Jr. machines were kinda cool, it was too little, too late. Sad to have seen it go, but the writing was on the wall for more than half a decade.
    -There were B.E.N. meet-and-greet characters? I don't suppose there's some Bowler Hat Guy or Maggie ones too that I just assumed didn't exist because the movies did squat? _Goes to check_. Oh, there was a whole set for Meet the Robinsons and while Home on the Range didn't get a meet and greet per se, there was the refitted Frontierland barn and a parade character for Maggie. I probably shouldn't have bet against cross-promotion opportunities.
    -Cinemagique looked amazing, and it's a shame it had to go, but at the very least, since it was a 2D print it was easy for it to have been "documented" in good-enough quality, as opposed to the finangling it's taken for things like Magic Journeys or Honey I Shrunk the Audience, where the various 3D->2D conversions can lead to strobe-y effects, frame dips, or other such issues.
    This episode/vlog was really fun, loved the gags this time around!
    P.S. More like "who care-ousels", amirite? _Gets pelted by tomatoes_

    I remember seeing Cinemagique in 2004 so I must've been 9 or 10 years old (Studios Paris was much better at that point as an indoor launch coaster and a flying Magic Carpet ride had been opened). Now my Dad was already having a really shitty day and had no patience for ANYTHING, so when the mobile/cell phone starts ringing as part of the film he jumps from his seat and screams "OH FOR GODS SAKE!" before my Mum drags him back into his seat and points out the actor climbing on stage. She then ordered my little brother and I not to laugh at my Dad until he wasn't around, so we held it in, for 6 hours. We were ready to die laughing when we were finally left alone in our room in what was Santa Fe Hotel (now a Cars hotel I believe).

    For me, California Screamin' was the first roller coaster that broke my fear of roller coasters, so it was easily one of the most nostalgic rides in California. It marked a point in my life where I stopped worrying about how scary something might be and started opening up to a whole world of thrilling experiences I still enjoy to this day. I'll certainly miss that one. Here's hoping the replacement can carry the torch just as well, if not better.

    • @TonyGoldmark

    16:34 ooh man, cinémagique is so nostalgic to me. I rode it so many times, trying my best identify as many films as I could. Even to this day, when I recognize a scene in a movie that I saw there first, I feel something.

  • @kieranhayag9107
    @kieranhayag9107 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    That ending with #1 caught me off guard. That and Tower of Terror were the only rides on this list that I honestly cared about when it closed. I know Incredicoaster will be fun, but what you stated about CS's existence being justified really got to me. Disney is losing its simplicity. Every ride and attraction has to be immersive and action packed. There's no room for a shot of adrenaline or a sweet moment, everything has to be crazy and in your face.
    Rest in Peace California Screamin' ☹️

    T2-3D closed?! In Florida?! I know it previously closed in Hollywood, but FLORIDA?! Then good thing I got a chance to experience it for the very first and ONLY time just the year before, and I was absolutely INSPIRED by all the technology involved in it! I declared to myself with a straight face "Why aren't there more attractions like it?!?" To me, it was a hybrid attraction combining multi-screen 3D (even though the 3D was broken when I went on it), stunt show, animatronics, and 4D effects!

    • @Saviorsrdenver
      @Saviorsrdenver 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe some older 3D systems used two projectors to achieve the effect (each one using a different filter.)
      That would be in contrast to the systems in use at your local cinema, which can project both through means of a special lens.

    • @AvidSonicFan
      @AvidSonicFan 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't quite remember exactly what happened, but what I mean is that either the glasses we were offered weren't very effective, or the projectors were out of line and produced unsatisfactory results on the glasses.

    • @AvidSonicFan
      @AvidSonicFan 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's not what I meant by "Multi-screen 3D". I meant you get three equally large screens which together emulate the feeling of a curved screen and fill just less than 180 degrees of viewing, and each one was in 3D!

    As a gamer, trust me. Disney Quest was still a big meh. I went to Disney Quest once. And only once. The vr games were so terrible and had such bad effects that I threw up on two of them. The only thing worth its salt were the retro arcade games.

      I went there about ten years ago. It was a nifty time capsule of what LBE (Location Based Entertainment) was capable of in the mid-late 90s, and since I'm a total nerd for that stuff I enjoyed it. But it also makes sense to me how that market wouldn't justify the place's continued existence.

    The thig that sucks about T2 closing, and I realize that this is really just a personal thing, is that I deiberately decided not to go on it a couple of years ago, during my first visit to Universal Studios, under the logic that I should "Save some of the fun for next time".
    Lesson learned, I guess; when you're dealing with Universal Studios, don't count on anything to even still be there 'next time'. And also, don't take advice from Muppe- wait, hold on, Ellen DeGeneres is SIXTY?!

    Episode spoilers...
    To those who, however well intentionally, keep asking about season 4, a thought occurs to me.
    Seeing him work in the CAPTAIN ACTUALLY skit, and the thing about needing to replace stuff....these are the kind of skits we get in when he does the episodes physically in the parks. Perhaps we should think of State Of The Parks itself as being season 4, like how Kyle and Lidnsey changed the format of their shows.
    Frankly, it seems like it would be less taxing, in all senses of the word, to do it this way. I have NO idea what goes into the making of your show Tony, nor what you wish to do in the future. But let me just say, if you find this a better format....then that works for me! :).
    I just have one thing to ask.....
    MORE SKITS! RUNNING GAGS! CUTAWAYS!!!! THE CAPTAIN! "Is it ice cream?" GUEST STARS AND FIRING PEOPLE FOR THOSE BLUNDERS! GHOST DAD! CONSPIRACY GUY! AND THE RESSSST RIGHT HERE ON SOME JERK WITH A CAMMMMMMMMMMERA
    (fixes shirt) so sorry for that.
    But seriously, if you would rather make this the format for SJWAC, then awesome! You do you!

    I like how you mentioned about the difference between thrill seekers and thematic experience lovers. It seems in the theme park world you only like one or the other. I consider myself a rare breed where I love both! I can have a great day at Disney/Universal and a great day at Six Flags/Cedar Fair but for different reasons! There are a few instances where both of my fandoms can be combined into one! Rides like Expedition Everest, Space Mountain, Harry Potter, Tower of Terror, and Test Track combine high thrills with elaborate theming, making them some of my favorite rides of all time!

    The part where I agree with you: I too find myself bored by Pirates at this point, mostly riding it because other people in my party want to. Besides how many times I've ridden, I've also seen it countless times in various Disneyland-related videos. And I too loved Screamin' for being the one roller coaster that was just a roller coaster. (While the ideas they have for The Incredicoaster do look decent.) Even though its theming was minimal for a Disney coaster, theming a modern steel coaster as a classic woodie is still more than most parks do, and the carnival/surf guitar soundrack reflected that mix of the classic and modern.

    Glad to see Cinemagique get a mention. It was actually one of the best Disney 'shows' I've seen, though it helps if you like Marty Short, are massively into classic cinema and enjoy being reminded just how great movies are. Really sucks that an entire attraction about film is being taken out of a FILM-themed park (not to mention to make way for yet more comic book nonsense...) but yeah, as second gate parks go, WDS is pretty lame right now so hopefully this $6bn should help.

    My take with the closures (for at least the Orlando ones) are: never cared for Universe of Energy (hell I'm excited for the Guardians coaster, with that and both Mission Space and Test Track, Future World West really is the adrenaline sector of Epcot), sad to see Great Movie Ride go (nice dark ride, however it only appealed for movie buffs so I understand why I had to go and the replacement sure looks interesting), wished it was still opened during my last visit past December. Wishes was nice seeing it but Happily Ever After is miles better with a catchier theme song, better lightning and the projection mapping is really great (also like that has many renaissance songs represented) and T2 really was impressive during the first year and was a fan favorite for both me and my mother. Hope Universal finds something good to use the space (but please not another screen based dark ride or simulator).
    PS The Stitch ride wasn't opened during my last visit (was only opened for Christmas to New Year week), so it was funny in a dark humor way see it used as stroller parking for parents wanting to ride Astro Orbitor, Buzz Lightyear, or Space Mountain.

    I doubt that the people who would call it "Bad Tower" would be the same people saying "Don't take it away, it was great". I was always a defender of this ride. For a lot of us it wasn't "Bad Tower" it was "Only Tower". Or for the select few who could ride both coasts, it was "Not-as-Good Tower" Anyway, it's done now. Great video.

    Thank you for your comments on the simplicity of the premise behind California Screamin', as it matches my feelings why I prefer Space Mountain to any of the overlays, especially Hyperspace Mountain. I love it when Disneyland tells me a story, but for Space Mountain, I don't want or need to dodge an evil ghost galaxy or get into a space dogfight. Just give me the pure unadulterated thrill of racing through the pitch-black of space.

    Hmmm...I guess it could be something Universal monster related that replaces T2 but well...I don't know, the so called Dark Universe pretty much won't happen because the 2017 Mummy movie bombed and I doubt that they would replace the existing Mummy ride with a ride based on that film.

    I hated It's Tough to be a Bug. I remember we went to watch it one more time way before it closed, figuring it didn't have much longer on this Earth.
    During the part where the "wasps" sting you, the stinger in the seat jabbed me right in a sweet spot in my back and I was sore for the rest of the the day. And that's all I remember from that trip. Good riddance to it I say.

    I remember seeing Cinemagique when I went to Walt Disney Studios Park Paris. It was alright, and I do remember getting a kick out of Martin Short’s hokey acting. Now they’ve gotten rid of it for an Avengers stunt show, I ask; Why is this needed when there’s already a great big show next door with Lightning McQueen aka Disney’s other massive money machine as a guest star? My best guess is that it’s very outdated (I saw it in 2014 and the most recent film featured in it I could make out was Toy Story 3 from four years ago).

    Honorable Mention 1 - As cool as Disney Quest sounds, I can see the logic behind closing it.
    Honorable Mention 2 - Yeah, they basically swapped one Disney cliche for another with that fireworks show and I honestly don't think they would get rid of fireworks altogether since that's their reward for those who are financially able (and for the parents who have the patience) to stay all day long.
    8. As shocking as it is for the attraction to leave when Buzz Lightyear was more popular than the nostalgic Disney characters, Disney hasn't been in Hong Kong for too long and the Marvel characters may have appealed more to them. I doubt Buzz will stay away for long though and I think they will add another attraction themed around him in the future. Maybe when they release Toy Story 4, his popularity will rise again and he'll get his own special attraction in the Toy Story Land they opened in 2011.
    7. This doesn't surprise me either. A Bug's Life isn't as popular as other Pixar movies and they probably wanted to hammer in the fact that they own Marvel now by replacing the attraction with another Marvel property.
    6. Considering she reprised her role as Dory fairly recently, I'm honestly surprised Disney didn't just say something along the lines of "we're adding another Finding Nemo ride and making Dory the star."
    5. I'm hoping they'll update it, but knowing Disney, they're probably just gonna replace it with a Star Wars themed attraction.
    4. ...what the...okay, I know this was just a Disney Land version of the original in Florida, but closing down the Tower of Terror? That's like...one of the most iconic attractions! Then again, Universal closed down Jaws so anything can happen. Maybe they'll replace it with something Coco related like a "journey through the land of the dead."
    3. That actually sounds kinda interesting and I'm disappointed they replaced their nostalgia-based attraction with another Marvel one. I'm not surprised though and they probably will find another way to make parkgoers feel nostalgic.
    2. This saddens me because it was yet another attraction I was unable to see but I'm not surprised. If the rumor is true about a Star Trek themed attraction, fans of that franchise will be happy and they will be able to compete with any Disney Star Wars attractions. Also, I doubt it's what they're replacing it with right now, but if they put in a Nintendo-themed park like the one they're installing in Japan I will be INSANELY happy.
    1. Aww! No more California Screamin? I loved that ride! Still, turning it into an Incredibles-themed ride is interesting and I look forward to seeing footage of the ride when it's released.

    I think T2:3D had to be the biggest loss of the year. I went to see it in the last week it was open and it still wowed, despite its age. I've only fairly recently experienced Universal parks but despite being really impressed I can't help but think that the only properties I actually care about have already gone or will go soon. BTTF, Jaws, T2:3D, Kongfrontation, E.T.... As someone who hasn't drunk the Harry Potter Kool Aid, it sucks when really the only thing you care about at Universal any more is Jurassic Park....

    I knew Disney was buying up a lot of properties with Marvel, Lucasfilm, Fox etc, but was quite surprised that Disney bought out Harvard University today and now plans on making it a for-profit college and New England branch of Disney World.
