      I mean, it began with the higher ups wanting to attract older kids (especially teens) to the park. Originally it was supposed to be based on the Alien franchise but many older Imagineers felt the franchise was too scary and violent for Disney and constantly fought against it, to the point where they had to get George Lucas involved. Lucas agreed that the Alien franchise was too intense and instead pushed the idea for a more original idea for the attraction, which he helped create.

    I wish you would do a whole video on Stitch. I worked in the Stitch complex a couple summers ago and it was a total shit show. Half the seats were down for maintenance and were never fixed, the effects barely worked, the Stitch overlay was so lazy and the leftover AE stuff in the queue, preshow rooms, and show room were excuses as “AE easter eggs,” and one of my trainers who had been there since Alien Encounter told us that the parts used to build AE and Stitch were no longer manufactured, so maintenance’s upkeep was basically spit and duct tape keeping the whole thing together. The Stitch animatronic was super cute though (when he worked lol).

      That’s super cool. Despite its problems, that was one of my favorite rides to go to and I was little. I’ve always enjoyed seeing the animatronic and it sucks that it was scraped And never reused

    • @hotmesslex18

      @@FormalFilmsProductions A lot of people really loved it to my surprise!!! Even before I was a CM I wasn’t a fan (not a fan of the sensation of being “touched” lol). It really sucks that they did nothing with the animatronics, ESPECIALLY Skippy, Jelly, and Sarge, who were from the AE days. My guess is they weren’t kept up with so they were too brittle/broken to save. Such a shame!!!

    Probably the funniest thing I found to come out of Circle of Life (other than this 8:12 choice of image to speak against it, kudos) is when Joseph Gilland was talking about it on Facebook. Joseph was a Disney 2D effects animator who supervised all the effects in Lilo and Stitch and was a director in Vancouver for a few years. Then years later on his Facebook he pulled up a TH-cam link that was a fandom crossover edit of Circle of Life and reaction clips from other cartoons and Joseph confused it for something Disney actually done with it.

    though I've never seen Alien Encounter I'm not sure I would have liked it much either, sense it still had those over the shoulder "restraints" for the 3D sound, which I find really uncomfortable and even worse when Stitch is jumping on you (which I believe was also used in the original show to simulate a wing hitting you. Cause being hit in the shoulder is fun.) I also hated the coninuity errors (like Stitch referring to himself as such even though he isn't supposed to have met Lilo yet). I mean I know the average guest probably doesn't care about those things, but it bothered me. Really L&S deserved, and still does deserve a better attraction.

    The one time I experienced Stitch, the chemicals they used for his "onion breath" stuck to my shirt for the rest of the day and, much like cigarette smoke, only got less pleasant over time. Still and all, it's probably the most serendipitous and well-executed cosmetic reskinning of an existing ride, and it indeed had the most impressive animatronic they'd installed in forever. And really, Alien Encounter was always more of a Universal kind of attraction; full-on horror is a bad look for Disney. Or at least castle parks. If and when they decide to leverage their purchase of the _Alien_ franchise to restore it to its former gory, I hope they have the sense to relocate it to Hollywood Studios.

  • @steveanctil2549

    I went on Alien Encounter when I was a little kid, and it scared the shit out of me. When I got older and grew attached to horror movies and attractions, I wanted to go back on Alien Encounter to face my fear, only to see it replaced with the Stitch attraction. I wish the Stitch attraction would close permanently, I always thought he was annoying. Instead, replace that attraction with either a Wreck It Ralph attraction like you suggested, or a Star Wars attraction of some kind.

    Too bad for Shrek, it was one of my favorites at that park. I do like Kung Fu Panda more, so I'm content with it being replaced. Is there a reason why all the 3D shows in the parks are being retired and being stripped of their theming? It happened to Muppet Vision, Captain EO, and It's Tough to be a Bug. Is it because their wait times are always so short it just makes sense to reduce the more expensive elements?

    • @TonyGoldmark
      @TonyGoldmark  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      And now that so many blockbusters are in theaters in 3D, the novelty has worn off.

    • @mickeymoose2062
      @mickeymoose2062 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Perhaps, but the old Muppet Vision 3D Theater feels like a waste of space now. They still had animatronics, and special effects that leaped out of the screen! I don't think a 3D show by nature HAS to be less immersive than a simulator, however I do agree that IS the case for some of these shows. Shrek doesn't make too much effort to make the theater itself as immersive as the queue. And the only special effects was the Tinkerbell getting shot into the back of the attraction and a few chair jerks. However, I think Philharmagic and It's Tough to be a Bug were wonderfully themed and were very immersive. I'll admit it could be harder to make it as immersive as a simulator, but not quite impossible.

      First of all, Great job on the video Tony!
      I agree that the one's we have currently are getting more outdated by the minute, we've had 3D for a long time and we recently added moving chairs, bubbles, splashes of water, smoke, and other special effects to regular movie theaters outside a theme park. However, instead of giving up on the concept all together I think that only leaves room for innovation and improvement. The one thing they had over Dbox is animatronics, which is nice but not much. Perhaps take a note from Universal's Terminator show and add even more live actors to the theater. (Not like Frozen though, oh gosh.) Stage shows are timeless~! Adding a 3D screen to play around with could be fun. It's just an idea, the glasses could potentially obscure what the actors are doing so maybe ya'll can come up with ways we can upgrade or come up with new 3D attractions with added elements! It'd be a shame to close a door on such a rich concept.

    • @mickeymoose2062
      @mickeymoose2062 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, it's a neat idea but they'd have to find a way to clean all those VR goggles. I doubt it could go through the same treatment as the 3D glasses do because of all the techy stuff.

    I know it's probably impossible but there's a small part of me hoping that if Stitch is really closed they replace it with their first vision of Alien Encounter with a fucking Xenomorph considering the whole deal with Fox. I know it won't happen given it's right across from a Monsters Inc. show but it'd be pretty cool if they did.

    To be fair, the Paris Climate Accords would've only accomplished 1% of what they set out to do in the first 30 years, then the remaining 99% was supposed to somehow happen in the following 70 years. But even by the UN's own math, the Accords as we could predict them would only have delayed the onset of global warming by a few months come 2116, which isn't much considering the untold amount of resources and funds that would be used to fuel the Accords (a lot of which would've come from U.S. funding, I believe, hence the "they're a terrible deal" line).
    Not happy about the national parks, though. Not unless they somehow plan to restore the land to the parks once the oil's been drilled dry, and keep the oil from spilling. Theodore's ghost is gonna haunt those drills.

    • @FireBlastStudios
      @FireBlastStudios 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes but let's not forget they're spending billions of dollars on Star Wars land, so for the time being they probably are going to stick to rethemes or using existing space for the other attractions that open around the same time, lest we end up with another Shanghai incident. Also some attractions just lose interest from the mainstream. They aren't gonna keep a ride open for the five people that like it (*cough* Maelstrom *cough* )when they have a more profitable use for it that could reach a much larger audience. Theme Parks need to evolve and change in order to stay in business, whether people like it or not.

    Re: Flock of Geese - Wait, "according to Anaheim police?" People reported this? Did cast members report it after 17 people complained, or those 17 guests call the cops on the geese? WTF California?!? I got pooped on by a bird waiting in line to ride the Fantasyland Skyway at WDW. Other than displaying my disgust the second it happened, I didn't complain to anyone because even as a child I knew. What's Disney going to do to fix this? Give me a Mickey Sticker? No. I kept my mouth shut on the subject and they STILL closed down the ride forever. Took them over a decade before they finally reopened it so that humans could now poop there. "We can help that birds poop there, but good news. Now you can too"

  • @urbex_coasters

    How dare you criticise my dragons! Universal should have relocated them within the property, or put up a sound wall with the enterence moved to the Jurassic Park area, where it was when Potter was under construction. They could have added to the theme and made the soundwall look like a dragon den. I have been told that Universal didn't like that it let you see backstage Potter, and my response to that is "Ever heard of this thing called a tunnel? You have one on Hulk." I'm saying this as a coaster nerd that rode them for the first time ever a few days after the closing announcement was made. I absolutely LOVED both of those coasters, and I aggree with incrediblecoasters.com that getting rid of them was the worst decision in theme park history (however I actually WILL boycott Universal/Comcast over it by not seeing any of their movies through sources that give them money (as in theatres and stores selling the blu-rey, and should I want to see one I'll either Redbox rental or use pirate sites) and I already have all the coaster credits from Orlando so I have no need to return if I don't want to), as there were a million solutions to the issue of it being too close to Potter that Universal easily could have been able to afford that did not involve sending them to the scrapyard.
    Also, am I the only one that thinks omething isn't right about the official story as to why they stopped dueling in 2011, which took away popularity and eventually resulted in removal? Just think about it. After 11 years of operating with no notable problems, JK Rowling comes in to oversee what they are doing for Potter. She says she wants Dueling Dragons to be gone. Universal says they are too popular to remove, but aggrees to a retheme. Just ONE YEAR LATER, the accident that caused the decline in popularity and eventual removal happens. Something isn't right about that.
    I'm not saying JK Rowling planted the coin on the train, or told someone to do so, because what I know about her leads me to believe she would never do something like that. However, that doesn't mean that like every fandom, there was a Potterhead who had malicious intent, and didn't like having to look at Dueling Dragons every time they went to Universal. Oh, and by the way I'm pretty sure tests were done to see if it was possible to throw objects from one train to the other. They concluded that it wasn't, and it certainly wasn't possible for an object from one train to land in someone's eye on the other train.

      Disney's "announcement" (not sure if it actually was announced yet) of making their own streaming service. Marvel, Star Wars, the 20th Century FOX acquisitions, and all movies and shows Disney will be on their own streaming service, rumored to be cheaper than hulu or netflix
      Not sure what that means for the hulu/netflix specific marvel shows like the defenders or jessica jones, but I'm personally excited. I'm just hoping old Disney shows/cartoons and ABC shows will be on there as well

      I know about that. But how is that a fiasco exactly?
      CBS has one, and they have a smaller library compared to Disney. Let alone a Disney with 20th Century Fox. So, how come Disney is getting flack for it, unless there was a catch in the clause?

    • @TonyGoldmark

      Disflix was not an official Disney thing - Disney is trying to get their own streaming service off the ground, but as far as we know it won't be called Disflix.
      No, Disflix was a fan-created attempt at a Channel Awesome-esque aggregate site specifically for videos about Disney World...with a pay wall.
      Needless to say, there was a backlash.

      Even if the Disney Streaming service isn't a fiasco I still have numerous issues that EVERY studio is having a streaming service for their own INDIVIDUAL properties. Unless Disney actually gives people a legal way to stream non digitally buyable shows like Pooh Corner, Raw Toonage, or hell even any pilots that never got picked up, I see no reason to encourage them to divide the market anymore if its just their bare minimum.
      Netflix in 20XX will probably be nothing but Asylum movies and obscure films that are immensly average if it gets bad enough...

    One time while we were riding "The Carousel of Progress" the 1920's father's arm structure snapped. But the hydraulics in it were fine so he kept gesturing with his arm with it's second elbow and it's the most horrifying thing I've ever seen in a Disney park. I'm not sure whether the Pirates auctioneer losing his head would be more or less nightmare inducing. On one hand it's his head and he's still talking because robot. On the other you're zipping though the scenes fairly quickly and not starting at the headless robot for five minutes.
