Joe Kuru He's a genius actually. Guy's laughing his way to the bank from all the money he gets from the viral waifu collecting gacha game as well as all the mediocre adaptations of his works that otakus would still spend money on no matter how bad they are.
@saber 1616 Tsukihime has several flaws Roa getting redemption while not earning it, Noel being the new Shinji Matou hell worse even, granted those are few. Lostbelt 6 is... Well where do i begin we got Fairies so evil they make Beril a damn saint a time travel plot that had no significance to the overall plot again the 3 fairy knights and Morgan were cool moving on. Solomon ah my favorite allow me to roast this with respect the anime fixed quite a lot issues but not by much margin see this ending to the first arc is good but trudging through i realized things this arc has a lot of unearned plot armor not the beginning and middle fights it's the ending that glares me. Mashu death scene is great which gets undone later Gudao is able to somehow fight a weakened beast barehanded and he's a pedestrian meanwhile Angra can kill seasoned battle mages and mind you he's a weakest servant Nasu just expect you believe Guda got the talent to fisticuff a demon god with nine rings of divine power then the final plot of Fou being a beast and trading all of powers to save Mashu is the most egregious asspull ever i mean just imagine the Lostbelt tension if Mashu wasn't their.
@this city is really a city The game version was better my ass in the game Self Insert Ritsuka Aka Cardboard beats a demon god single handedly in the movie he got upgrades tech on his arm to fight Geotia just cause he's a self-insert doesn't mean he should be strong enough to fight a god level servant like Geotia the Solomon movie fixed this horrendous issue with the servants even breakthrough the throne room shield which was great. The Tsukihime issue is still an issue telling me or the fans that Roa having a Route will justify his redemption is a problem still, to fully enjoy a story do you have to read it from ending to beginning that's not logical or a standard why didn't Nasu just leave the Redemption at the far side routes
For me, Last Encore is a flawed series, but not necessarily a bad one... It’s just not for the uninitiated. For me, Nero was easily the best part of the show though. Best saber ftw.
@@rickynguyen5108 I recently rewatched and I’ve definitely warmed up more to it. I think it’s got quite a few good moments. I think the main issue it has is that it fails to develop any of its characters except Hakuno and Nero - partly because it’s got such a short episode count. I remember hearing Nasu or someone else intended for it to be an intro to the series? I honestly don’t think you can get that much out of LE unless you’ve played/are familiar with the original game’s story. I think if it got double the episodes it would’ve gone over better. That episode count also made it harder for any important foreshadowing or explanations to stick with me for my first watch cause, to an extent at least, LE doesn’t have much downtime. Not a lot of time to think about things. In the end, I think it’s good, but not without at least a few asterisks there. I think it has a good soul, but there are more than a few bruises on it.
@@qazentro4444 True. By the way, what do you think about Last Encore's ending itself? From what we saw, Rin is the only survivor. We see her having her actual blond hair, which must mean that she's back to her actual human body, but that can't be it since her physical body had already died due to it being a thousand years later after the original Hakuno lost to Pieceman. Does this mean that Rin is still at the restored Moon Cell, where she'll look for the original, real Hakuno? I don't know.
Yeah. I thought FELE was to be adapted from the plot of Extella/Zero (the prologue of Fate Extella where Nero and Tamamo were both Hakuno's Servants and CCC occured as well). I can't stop hoping for more adaptations though
Never finished it cuz i'm still looking other websites and i only stopped at Ep. 10 any recommended websites (besides crunchyroll and funimation they are not available in the Philippines)
As someone who came into the universe late and probably will never be able to play the games first hand unless they get remakes (which type moon needs to get the ball already) I would have preferred more of a vanilla take, but I also feel they rushed the living shit out of last encore to the point it's barely watchable compared to everything else, even lllyias series is decent if you skip most of season 1 and 2 avoid all that Loli porn and instead you get another amazing fate series. But unfortunately last encore is by far the worst I've seen... Excluding the tsukihime mess we don't speak about.
OtakuDaiKun on my end (as far as I know) I don't have all the episodes. Thanks Netflix. But to be completely honest I prefer the original version. Both as a game and if it were a anime. The characters have more time to develop (especially your servant minus Emyia) and I honestly enjoy if not love the selection of servants! I mean we got a Japanese kami turned into a sexy fox waifu ( best girl.) a Roman emperor thought to have set fire to his kingdom turned into a waifu with a over inflated ego, and SHIROU FREAKING EMYIA!!! I say we got a good choice.
I like last encore the way it is, and everyone *will* enjoy it to *if only* shaft get their focus together to focus on anime that has been promised for *TWO YEARS* rather than jerking off with madoka gacha game *NO ONE* ask for 😡.
I hardly had any problem with Last Encore, it was okay. Correction though: Rin and Rani in this installment were Demi-servants not Pseudo. And that's a cool new avatar animation you got there Dai, LOL.
Fantastic summary and great job explaining the events once again Dai! It was a pleasure to be able to help answer a few of your questions in this fantastic summary video. Will be recommending this to those who find Last Encore's presentation to be a bit too much. Good work! ^^
I respect that level of ambition and respect for the audience Nasu has, it's just a shame that "experimental" got confused with "needlessly vague" somewhere along the way. Also big shout outs to all the Grand Order servants that showed up however briefly!
A few notes. First and foremost, I'm glad to find Dai agrees with my sentiment.... Last Encore basically requires intimate knowledge of Extra in order to actually get anything out of it. In a sense, alot of its themes end up mirroring and opposing themes from the game. For example, Blackmoore in the game was very adamant about following knightly ideals of fairness and chivalry, where-as the Blackmoore of Last Encore had fallen back to his expertise and experience as a sniper... fighting in the very opposite way of a knight. Robin mentions in the game that, despite all his protests, he actually liked being able to play the Knight for once. In LE, Robin is only fighting on because of his loyalty to Blackmoore... The Knight and the Sniper switched places. A similar corruption and/or opposition happens to almost every character... even Hakuno. While Hakuno in the game is a mute self-insert styled character, he/she DOES receive a few character defining traits. Most notably, Hakuno is called out by every one of their servant partners, as well as several enemies, for being a bleeding heart. For caring too much. Nameless even says in one character interaction, that Hakuno's humanistic views were soothing for someone like him who lived a fairly cynical life. Where-as in Last Encore, our MC is literally the embodiment of all the negative emotions felt by masters who have died in the various iterations of the Grail War. Like much of LE, the themes were made overly confusing and purposelessly complex, but once you understand that Deadface Hakuno is meant to be a reflection of Game Hakuno, it puts an interesting spin on the 'carry hope into the sky' theme he tries to push forward. Also, while floor four was indeed BS'd through with 'boy that was an easy fight... not even worth mentioning!' it's also worth noting that floor 4 in the game was the first point in Extra where the story started branching...and you got to fight a cannibalistic genderbend of Ronald McDonald and her servant, the crazy version of Vlad the Impaler.... or you got to fight a crazy cult leader who worshipped his servant. Said servant just happened to be Arcueid of Tsukihime fame summoned as a berserker. Both routes offered spectacularly little to the overall narrative of Extra other than some shock value... and actually offer some problems lore-wise (Arcueid aside, having a second version of Vlad so soon after Fate/Apocrypha would only confuse newcomers even further.) I can see what Nasu was shooting for.... but he airballed that buzzer-beater. Shaft's usual stylings only added to the confusion and didn't do anything to enhance the story either. I really would have rather preferred they had just adapted the original game...or better yet... adapted for us an actual version of Extella/Zero!
Eh Still would have been cool to see Run Ru being the Master of Elizabeth Bathory and fighting Hakuno and Nero as a twisted mirror that actually makes Hakuno question his nihilistic raveings and maybe develop his character. Also it would be a Good Nod to CCC where Run Ru actually is Liz's master in that game! -before BB Chan kills her offscreen-
Just recently getting into the "Fate" series and Last Encore (though I enjoyed it for what it was) had me stumped. This really helped clear everything up. Awesome job!
The confusing parts made me actually love this anime even more. Without a doubt my favorite Fate Series, loved every aspect: story, characters, music, artstyle and even the confusions
Why it fails as a story: It was expected to be an adaptation of Nero's arc in Fate Extra, but instead what we got was a huge clusterfuck that not only didn't even bother to stay true to the original source, but decided to fuck with the fans and viewers and do its own story.
On the website, in japanese only, there are several plot details/information regarding the story for some reason Shaft didnt include in the actual Anime Which is bullshit but still fills several hole`s of information the Anime leaves out. For example after Shinjis floor was done the website updates the information regarding the circumstances of SERPAH/this grail war and told us, before Rani on floor 2 explained it, that 999 years had passend since Hakunos ascend to floor1. Which means either the elevator took that long or the time between Hakuno getting stabbed and wakeing up + summoneing Nero took that long? There are also several weird details. For example many wonder why Nameless didnt hit Hakuno when he had the chance and clear shots at him. He either misses or misses on purpose to allow him time for running away. Also the weird detail when Nero destorys him he smiles like he was happy for Hakuno that he survived or either that Nero stopped him before he could do anything to them. Cause it is weird that at first he only slowly follows him and then gains speed and power when he encounters Nero. Than there are also those weird flashbacks of Hakuno where he as several different command spells insignia/emblems. Which either means all the Flashbacks are just memories form prior loops/master fragments he is made of or that these are the masters memories from female Hakunons grail wars. Which conflict with the things we saw/Hakuno saw when he remembers stuff in his flashbacks & thus gains new information for the battle etc. Which made several secnes on Alice floor so weird cause half of it is flashbacks from a different time while the other half is Hakuno traveling with the rest on the floor. And only made sense when you see in a flashback the differen command spell emblem with clockwheels. Idk what exactly happend. Either that Shaft did what Shaft does with their Monogatari style of storytelling or Nasu who said this is newcomer friendly. If i didnt play the games i wouldnt know anything about the story or for that matter understand anything in that regards. Its such a weird mess. PS: I still question the ending. Did he really restore earth or isnt it much more likely the timeline was set back to make the events from the game happen and avoid the quantum time locks future which leads to certain destruction? So basiclly coulndt it be that Last Encore is the story that happens before the regular Extra games and is a untold story about prior events that made it possible to avoid the certain destruction the Extra cast in the game faced?
What about the floor that they skipped in the anime, was it because it included a certain berserker classed "true ancestors" or is it just vlad or something else that i missed ?
I'd like to mention that the outcome of this project might have been the same if they attempted to adapt Extra instead because Last Encore itself is technically a VN adaptation since Nasu have wrote it's script in a VN format being unfamiliar with writing screenplay. The biggest thing I blame for the show ending up as a trainwreck is having only 13 episodes for the entire thing. This 12 episodes timeslot system is the bane of any and all adaptations. Given Nasu's style they really need that 25-50 episodes to make it decent.
Naru Honestly, I don’t think that’s the issue. Looking at most of the first 10 episodes, everything tends to make sense with proper attention placed on it. It’s just that the quality of LE as a whole was so predicated on those final 3 episodes that it probably left people cold on the main body anime to begin with. The ultimate issue is that the 3-episode finale special was an utter train wreck, with episode 13 in particular being especially abominable, definitively wasting Hakuno and Twice Pieceman as characters, having the worst antagonists in the show, and having all of the reveals and asspulls and whatnot being utterly nonsensical. That was my biggest disappointment on the year and I’ve seen no shortage of people resent LE for that final stretch alone or at least with that being the straw that broke the camel’s back for many people.
Bro I love this and it really takes me back to the PSP game. I have played the newer game on PS4 and watched the anime that came out recently. Your Fate lore is pretty interesting and I have to say that I recently have become a serious Nero Claudius fan. I actually got the kotobukiya figure for my collection and the channel. Keep up the fun!
As much as I love FELE (it's my favorite of the fate anime) it's truly a testament as to why Nasu really shouldn't work on anime. His writing style just doesn't work with a visual medium (not to mention Sakurai's hacking away of the giant script, and shaft making the show half as long as it needed to be)
@@otakudaikun It was multiple production issues. The show had to cram a script the size of a VN into 13 episodes, a general lack of budget, a script adapter who's known for not being the best at writing (Sakurai), and a director/writer who's only ever written literature (Nasu). That's the reason for the plot holes, the constant feeling that the show was rushed, and Hakuno's general lack of character (he has one, it's just locked away in the massive script that hasn't been released to the public)
Mind you,@@otakudaikun ,that they cut amari's (pink haired girl that always go with shinji) part of story for NO REASON WHATSO EVER (4th floor with tamamo as servant *are* specifically ordered by nasu to "save it to something else" , amari is *not* ), even thought its revealed she had rider Vanagard ( *Fenrir* ) as her servant. That revelation buggled my mind to no end until today 🤕.
"Because I hate the Force, I hate that it seems to have a will. That it would control us to achieve some measure of balance. When countless lives are lost." "So you will do nothing? Apathy is death." - Darth Kreia (Star Wars Kotor 2) That's the same way I feel about the Root, Magic, Mana, the Throne of heroes, the Counter Force, all of it in the Nasuverse.
Ironically this is the story of fate night, the more Emiya stays from his ideals the worst things end while the more he sticks to becoming archer the better they go and more powerful he becomes
Hey Dai-kun! I love the new style for these lore videos, instead of just a bunch of falling pictures, as well as you throwing in a few jokes here and there! I hope more lore videos are like this
I watched Last Encore and it was pretty bad. I kept with it because i wanted to see the trainwreck. As I described it to a friend, its a show about computers, written by someone who knows nothing about computers.
I agree, personally, I thought Amari was gonna be Tamamo in disguise and would act as a sort of 'honey trap' that sabotaged other masters as they tried to climb up the floors, and would turn on her master and join the crew mid way though (kind of like the role she played in that Extella Zero mini story thing). Here's hoping for an OVA of that floor.
This show was the first I saw in the fate series... I'm glad even though I couldn't finish it, I still went on to watch other fates. I really appreciate this video, so thanks!
Me thinks we missed an Anime set between the Thousand Years that explained how exactly Twice H. Pieceman and Kirei Kotomine dealt with threats such as Kiara Sessyoin, Velber, and Karl de Grobe as seen in the games and the thousand year interval that led to this point and developed their characters into how we see them in Last Encore.
Fate Apocrypha ✔ Fate Extra Last Encore ✔ Fate Zero ✔ Fate Heaven's Feel ✔ Fate UBW ✔ Fate Kaleid ✔ Now I'm waiting for fragments of blue and silver.... ⏳
Honestly, the main body anime (the 10 episode TV airing) was actually pretty good and criminally, beyond undeservedly maligned. It honestly works well at making the setting a slowly-revealing and horrifying puzzle, with exposition that tends to work more often than not even with how convoluted it is. The antagonists ranges from mediocre to actually terrifying and interesting, including easily the best interpretation of Shinji I’ve seen. It was sadly made in a way in which the quality of LE as a whole was almost entirely predicated upon how the separate finale works out. Sadly, the final 3 episode finale special is where shit hits the fan in terms of quality, with nearly the remaining reveals being utter nonsense and the antagonists being pretty damn terrible. It manages to be a complete train-wreck that squanders the remaining potential left open by the main body series. The characters before this point were interesting enough, partially because of the potential they remained for Hakuno and partially due to how fun and interesting some of the others are. The finale special effectively wasted Hakuno and the others no longer hold up with how bad the new characters are and how terrible an antagonist Twice turned out to be. This is also where knowledge of the game is actually essential to at least some parts making sense in context instead of just being referenced in nods and helpful in general nonetheless. The worst part is that even the finale special is still better than Fate/Apocrypha, UBW 2010 Movie, and Grand/Order: First Order. It actually has some wonderful presentation to boot, even with how convoluted it is and how it’s set up like Mawaru Penguindrum but worse (fuck that special, seriously, that final episode in particular is especially dreadful). There’s really a lot to like about it but the unforgiving demand of utmost concentration can be seen as excessive, as even with the exposition scenes, there is a lot left hidden in the formulaic structure about people basically killing the boss of each level/floor. Them cheekily skipping the 4th floor because it was so embarrassingly pointless and easy that the audience would gain nothing of value from it nearly had me rolling on the floor, not gonna lie.
jack cap The fights in 11 and 12 are indeed better, but outside of some new music additions, everything is worse. The writing is awful and the finale is a horrendous ordeal that even I, someone who has defended LE to the death for months now, cannot defend in the slightest. Main 10 episodes are definitely the best non-Zero Fate anime, fore sure.
writting awful!? and what about the other fate....saber best servant get reckt in every fight.....human can fight servant....but not another because plot....Last encore is the most coherent FATE since zero....
jack cap You do realize I have been saying this is still the best Fate anime that isn’t Zero. The rest range from actually pretty good to downright abysmal, and the first 10 episodes are great. The last 3 are not.
I talk about the last 3....better fight and better animation than the 10 first....but I like all the show. Since zero I ever seen a good fate....until 2019
UMU! your Video would make the great Emperor happy for sure! Really great explained! Your former Videos about Fate/Extra too. I couldn´t play the games up until now so i just knew a little bit about the story and so Fate / Last Encore was a bit hard to grasp. (Well i love the Monogatari Series from Studio shaft so i didn´t bother about Last Encore beeing a bit confusing XD) Keep up the good work!
I didn't know nothing nero before this video hell didn't know she existed until extella link always thought she was just red saber but after this i felt the emotions of the story it was heartwarming & sad was about to cry this really made me appreciate Nero character now she's 1 of my favorite characters
Im late to the party. Just finished Fate LE the other day. Your lore vid does a good job at explaining stuff but i feel it missed some potential headscratchers. Heres what i think: 1- In episode 1, that whole HGW selection was a stimulation of the past Moon HGW. Meaning all the characters shown (except Hakuno) were npcs based on the original ones. Thats why when the guy died playing chess against Leo, nobody reacted to his death except Hakuno. Even Kirei confirmed it that the cycled stimulation was for Hakuno to become the 129th participant. Ghost cyber Twice as well said "AGAIN, you didnt make it this time." Why? Well maybe bcz the holy grail grew stagnant so seraph tried to send another master. But since most human were dead on earth it relied on Hakuno as a dead face the only one alive in the limbo. Also take note that when Hakuno met Rin on the 1st floor in ep2 she didnt recognise him from ep1 and introduced herself to him meaning she was also an npc based on her in ep1. The holy grail war getting stagnant for 1000years and seraph sensing its doom deciding to send another master brings some light to the 1000 year gap. 2- I feel different about the ending. In episode 10 Rin said that her original body has already decayed thus she cant return to earth. Twice also said that even the Moon holy grail has limitations. "You cannot gain that which was lost". It was stated by Nasu that extra was at a quantum timelock after the mana was lost so earth in extra timeline is doomed no matter what due to the overcount 999 (could be the dark six ritual). Therefore what was shown being fixed was Seraph not Earth. Why rin has blond hair on seraph? Well its easy for her as a spirit hacker to change her avatar to suit her taste. Since she was gonna live on seraph she decided to go full on imitation of her actual original body. Even archer in the game said that rin and leo are hight tier hackers so they can fully customise their avatars unlike the rest of the masters. What Hakuno wished in the end was basically to fix seraph and make it a new frontier for the surviving humanity (100,000) left on earth. Rin was just one of the first to populate the new seraph that Hakuno sacrifised himself for. I have more points but i think im reaching the msg limit xD Hope it cleared some confusion
I can understand why they wouldn't show the 4th floor. Both of the masters didn't even any impact on the plot nor emotional attachment to the main character(alice is the only master that fit the later and the anime made her a plot device too) Also the servant was probably vlad extra and thus, making a joke about how saber are strong against lancer in grand order I mean, there s no way arcueid could have get stuck on the mooncell after her berserker form got defeated since the game show that immediatly escape after that instead of being deleted because she way too OP when she isn't nerfed by madness enhancement. And in defense of shinji extra, in the manga, he literally sacrifice himself to save hakuno
@@DerRitter7 Wow, I know I m 2 years late but someone did reply to another comment i made here so here we re. Anyway, tamamo was the original servant of twice(aka mister final boss) before savior took pity on him and became twice's servant after he lost so its highly unlikely especially considering each of the know floor has the same opponent than their game counterpart. The final floor in the anime is just savior's np but its kinda as if it was basically a nerfed version of himself anyway
Regarding Misao, there was actually a drama cd released about her together with the blu ray, basically within those 1000 years where hakuno was MIA she summoned the servant fenrir under the rider class. She was actually killed by rin in floor one during the flood scene.
Oh right, also regarding the 4th floor the original script released with the blu ray mentioned that the master servant pair were Atlam and Tamamo (Atlam was Tamamo's master in extella zero) I hope this clarifies some stuff ahahaha
Totally agreed , I was clueless about what was going on in the first 8 episodes but the next 5 explained a lot . Your Video helped me understand the remaining . Anyway the series as a whole is a 7/10 at Max .
Francis Drake's bond with shinji was simply that of servant and master. She saw he wished to make a peaceful city and she did so cuz she followed him. It wasn't out of love, or friendship, she was linked to him, a servant born from a real hero legend, even if she is simply code that doesn't mean she doesn't have no desire to live. I bet that's all she wants is to live and shinji is the means to doing that.
When I finally started watching any of Fate, I went in practically blind. Starting with Apocrypha, Unlimited Blade Works, then Last Encore. I knew nothing about the Moon Cell but I still enjoyed it because Umu-chan is that much of a delight.
Excellent video dai this anime had a lot of cool ideas the first of wich to introduce the psuedo servant in anime form sadly the anime had horrible pacing they should have used the first episode as prelude information on extra the first game like fate/Zero did establishing the master of the competition
I played through the game recently don't think I'll ever forget that crazy fight with lu but where I kept spamming Neros resurrection move while he kept using his own revive move. finally killed him for good after he revived 4 times, and I twice. it was just a tug of war between revives. Felt like it was true battle of endurance. Like my self insert MC and Nero we're fighting Heracles.. some of the most epic fate content that I was in control of.. As flawed as the story of that game was I do think I'll never forget that fight.
Personally I think this gives a bit more deposition for the male protagonist in fate Extella as its more or less explained why he wasn't deleted outright after the grail war, plus I'll be honest, his dead face powers remind me a lot of dark spine sonic from sonic and the secret rings which I love XD great video explaining the story dude, your lore videos really help me better understand the mechanics and lore of the nasuverse and I'd like to think that the fourth floor's master was runru and God only knows what her floor would be like, makes me sick just thinking about it XD
I actually did like the series....it had this broken world exploration that was sad, yet interesting. The deadface thing could have been done better, but by the time I finished the series I was pretty satisfied.....and interested enough to get the actual fate extra games....and it's interesting to compare the broken and unbroken versions of characters.
Nero made this watchable.... Thanks for the great breakdown because I didn't get it from the ENTIRE anime of Fate/Extra last encore until watching this since I didn't play Fate/Extra.
Both have character development, Sieg moreso. Sadly, both shows wastes their protagonists in entirely different ways. Apocrypha failed to give most of its characters chemistry, real time to bounce off of and interact with Sieg, and a reason to be cared about by the audience, so their impact on Sieg and his overall development both wrong hollow. The journey he goes through to really find out the meaning of life, leadership, and salvation with the guidance of several people in all sorts of positions in this grand war could have been interesting with more time spent on individual arcs related to Sieg and any one pair, and writing that makes more than 4 of these 24+ characters compelling to begin with. LE made the mistake of never really letting Hakuno feel genuine in his rage, having him rarely ever emote or even have a scene of him acting violently or angrily questioning why he feels the way he does. The main series could have done a better job at making us care about him, but they still gave us episode 9 which worked at making his counterpart interesting while giving him a bit more to him so that he wasn’t a worthless character just yet. The other characters bounced off him well enough and carried the show in his stead for the main body 10 episode series. Sadly, the final 3 drop the ball on everything I just said immensely, and Hakuno gets no further exploration, effectively wasting any potential he had that should have already been covered in the main show itself.
Becasue Sieg has no free will. Everything he does the personalit he has was implanted by someone else who used Sieg as a puppet in order to stop Shiro.
I wished they just made an anime adaption of the game itself. The idea of the actual anime is good in my opinion, but shaft failed the perfect execution :/ your right! If you know the original game, you can enjoy the anime much more. Its a nice addition.
At the end of the day, Last Encore can be considered coherent, but I still find it lacking to an extent. It's basically a "what-if" scenario as you said it. It introduces Dead Faces and that's pretty much all that is new with it, I found.
Fate/Extra: Last Encore is merely [A Fragment of 2030] But in [Another Ending]...Hakuno-chan was the [Victor From the Moon] who carries with her [Spiritron Portrait: Nero Claudius]
For Fate/Extra they should've made a anime version of Fate/Extra CCC, i mean, that would've been more itneresting at least for non JP, after all the game was never released outside of japan (sadly)
@@otakudaikun no shit Sherlock. Writing a screenplay requires a different set of skills that writing a novel. I'm pretty sure he had to cut A LOT of stuff just to fit his ideas into a mere 13 episodes cour, given his tendencies to write a dorstooper if he is no careful (and there are several examples of that, before AND after F/ELC)
@@otakudaikun i would rather say overambitious (and I have already explained why), but I don't necessarily disagree with the execution being pretty bad… in the narrative department. Anyways, it would be interesting to at least know if the number of episodes was decided before or after having the outline (or the first draft of the script). And I'm pretty sure it was decided to make a 13 episodes anime mostly for budget / scheduling reasons.
Really, thanks for explaining the dumpster fire that is the plot of an otherwise decent anime. The convoluted concepts made the series borderline unwatchable for me, but I stuck around due to my free time and love for the overall series and its soundtrack. Now that you've made sense of the overly deep lore, I'm going to rewatch this with a friend, a better appreciation of the story, and a better understanding of what to skip for time's sake. Thanks again Dai, your videos really do help keep me enjoying this franchise!
Can you please make a lore for Moon Cell? I think it will be interesting one considering that this chuni PC just made all True Magics demoted to Magecraft status.
Good idea badly executed. Granted, it wasn't all bad and this explainer clears up a lot of unanswered questions. .. .. That being said, Nero was easily the best part of the anime adaptation who actually "grew" as a character. She's now my second-favorite Servant after Artoria.
I mean I honestly speaking the anime would have been great if it would have had a session one and then extra been session two or somthing like that. Also great job unconfusing this for me and others.
Maybe it's because I was playing Fate Extra concurrently while watching Last Encore, but I didn't really feel that the series was that confusing, literally the only thing I wasn't aware of about the anime was that the monster from Alice's floor was the Jabberwock, it just didn't click when I watched those episodes. The series still had flaws, but being confusing wasn't one of them for me.
Thanks so much for this video! After doing more research on Fate/Extra Last Encore cause at the end of it all I was left scratching my head like "WTF did I just watch?" I feel like I actually could appreciate the show a lot more giving it a 2nd chance. I'll give it another watch especially since now we have the entirety of both Season 1 and 2. Although it's pretty disappointing that Season 2 was only 3 episodes =/. WTF was that even all about? Should of just made the entire show in 1 Season.
Do they ever specify why Buddha pieced out? Aside from the possibility of him being disgusted with his master over the cycle of constantly killing people. And I wanna know when he’s going to make his debut in FGO? Maybe not as his original class Savior (especially since Pretender is still new) but maybe Ruler or Moon Cancer
It’s a good anime, I don’t know what people are complaining about. Ok, granted you shouldn’t watch it if you aren’t familiar with Fate, and it has the mystery-solved-over-episodes format (which isn’t something new for anime), but once you’re a few episode in (which you should always do to give a series a chance) things falls in place very quick
18:45 To be fair, wouldn't the Fourth Flood be Extra-Berserker/Arceuid's floor? That's kind of a wink and a nudge that most of the fans wouldn't even get anymore, seeing as how Fate has so eclipsed Tsukihime/Melty Blood.
“Fun entry point”
“Assumes you already know the characters”
These two statements are compatible.
-Nasu, apparently.
Let's be frank, Nasu is a fucking idiot.
Joe Kuru

Both protagonists have little to no personality yet girls still fall for them somehow lmao
@Vizman216 bruh
Yeah, Last Encore wasn't a bad series, but it's not a good one either.
@@qazentro4444
True.

I don't recall them specifying whether it's Demi or Pseudo but it's not like Cu or Lu Bu are divine or anything. You're right.
@@otakudaikun The official site has an entire section of keywords. The keywords of episode 8 included the term Demi-Servant.
DarkAngelWJ Ah, I see.
Both routes offered spectacularly little to the overall narrative of Extra other than some shock value... and actually offer some problems lore-wise (Arcueid aside, having a second version of Vlad so soon after Fate/Apocrypha would only confuse newcomers even further.)
I can see what Nasu was shooting for.... but he airballed that buzzer-beater.
Why it fails as a story:
It was expected to be an adaptation of Nero's arc in Fate Extra, but instead what we got was a huge clusterfuck that not only didn't even bother to stay true to the original source, but decided to fuck with the fans and viewers and do its own story.
Thank you for saving my time for watching Extra
On the website, in japanese only, there are several plot details/information regarding the story for some reason Shaft didnt include in the actual Anime
Which is bullshit but still fills several hole`s of information the Anime leaves out.
I like your theory on the ending. All those reincarnations should have been better implemented into the narrative.
Doesn't Last Encore occur because the original Hakuno and Saber lost to Pieceman and Saver?
@@rickynguyen5108 Yeah thats the bad end you can get but that was Female Hakuno.

True.
He should stick to making visual novels I guess. Mahoyo looks gorgeously cinematic while still being a VN.
Isn't LE a train wreck though? Most of it doesn't make sense and it felt rushed to hell.
This was godly compared to the adaptation of Tokyo ghoul re from the manga

As much as I love FELE (it's my favorite of the fate anime) it's truly a testament as to why Nasu really shouldn't work on anime. His writing style just doesn't work with a visual medium (not to mention Sakurai's hacking away of the giant script, and shaft making the show half as long as it needed to be)
Ah finally someone who also know the truth.(sakurai's "shenanigans" and shaft can't get focus didn't help either 😠).
@@masuahmadin7511 Honestly FELE should've just been a LN VN or video game, considering how much stuff had to be cut to fill the 13 episode limit.
Mr.blue Ah, so it was a production issue.
According to some comments on the Fate Go reddit (so take with some salt) the 4th floor was supposed to have Tamnamo no mae as the enemy.
They should have animated that, at the very least to appease Tamamo fans... at least briefly.
Or Strange Fake.
Them cheekily skipping the 4th floor because it was so embarrassingly pointless and easy that the audience would gain nothing of value from it nearly had me rolling on the floor, not gonna lie.
what.....this FATE is the best since zero....the last 3 episode are amazing....better fight.....UMU GODESS....best serie of 2018

"The anime gives us some beautiful moments"
He says as he slow pans up Rin. Good taste.
Im late to the party. Just finished Fate LE the other day. Your lore vid does a good job at explaining stuff but i feel it missed some potential headscratchers. Heres what i think:
1- In episode 1, that whole HGW selection was a stimulation of the past Moon HGW.
Both of the masters didn't even any impact on the plot nor emotional attachment to the main character(alice is the only master that fit the later and the anime made her a plot device too)
Also the servant was probably vlad extra and thus, making a joke about how saber are strong against lancer in grand order
I mean, there s no way arcueid could have get stuck on the mooncell after her berserker form got defeated since the game show that immediatly escape after that instead of being deleted because she way too OP when she isn't nerfed by madness enhancement.
And in defense of shinji extra, in the manga, he literally sacrifice himself to save hakuno
Shinji wasn't awful in the original Extra... but then he had to stab his bff.
According to some stuff, the 4th floor Servant was probably Tamamo. As a Tamamo loyalist, you can guess how well I took that bit.
Der Ritter Maybe they were too afraid to have her lose a fight to Nero.
@@DerRitter7 Not The Foxy Shrine Maiden :(
@@DerRitter7 Wow, I know I m 2 years late but someone did reply to another comment i made here so here we re.
Also, Extra!Shinji is 8 years old
1008 years in last encore ;)
Regarding Misao, there was actually a drama cd released about her together with the blu ray, basically within those 1000 years where hakuno was MIA she summoned the servant fenrir under the rider class. She was actually killed by rin in floor one during the flood scene.
Oh right, also regarding the 4th floor the original script released with the blu ray mentioned that the master servant pair were Atlam and Tamamo (Atlam was Tamamo's master in extella zero) I hope this clarifies some stuff ahahaha
Ah, the old Drama CD trick. I think that's a cheap way to develop a character for their appearance in a larger work.

I like how he says that there are “Truly beautiful moments” in the anime while Rin is getting out of the shower
Flame Shot That's precisely what I'm referring to.
OtakuDaiKun nice
Finally i understand (most of it) thank u so much 😭😭😭😭😭
Medea must have stabbed some of the writers with her Noble Phantasm
When I finally started watching any of Fate, I went in practically blind. Starting with Apocrypha, Unlimited Blade Works, then Last Encore. I knew nothing about the Moon Cell but I still enjoyed it because Umu-chan is that much of a delight.
Amazing job n you know what? Since EXTRA has a few timeline including Extella/Link. LE mind as well b the Downfall timeline just like zelda.
@Chris Mitchell basically yes next thing u no we get fate/Breath of the wild" n Nero is the main servant again.
this guy deserves more suscribers
Thank you^^
Excellent video dai this anime had a lot of cool ideas the first of wich to introduce the psuedo servant in anime form sadly the anime had horrible pacing they should have used the first episode as prelude information on extra the first game like fate/Zero did establishing the master of the competition
Yes! It's finally here! The wait is over!!!
I enjoyed it before I even started playing Extra, despite it being confusing it was a nice face paced fighting game arcade ladder.
Nasu beforehand: Yes this is a great idea!
Nasu afterwards: Why did I do this this way?!
I liked the ending of Last Encore as it was very good and emotional and ending song was wonderful. Also Nero best Saber UmU!
thanks for giving use a straight idea on the lore. lol it made more sense now!
I loved both this and Apocrypha. I don’t understand why everyone says Hakuno and Sieg didn’t have any character development.
Hakuno is an amazing character in the games who was ruined by the plot of last encore erstwhile siege is just a cardboard
I honestly never cared for Hakuno as a "character" but more just a stand in for us as players.
Which one did you prefer? Last Encore or Apocrypha?
I've only watched the latter.
Awesome vid, c u at the return of Nero fest
What?! I thought this would take forever for you to get this video up.
Don't worry, I can get it up quickly when I want to.
OtakuDaiKun ok
I wished they just made an anime adaption of the game itself. The idea of the actual anime is good in my opinion, but shaft failed the perfect execution :/ your right! If you know the original game, you can enjoy the anime much more. Its a nice addition.
16:31 Fuuma got a cameo, I was happy.
Fuuma is the Servant of the 4th floor.
Nero fan service animated...
1000/10
At the end of the day, Last Encore can be considered coherent, but I still find it lacking to an extent. It's basically a "what-if" scenario as you said it. It introduces Dead Faces and that's pretty much all that is new with it, I found.
Fate/Extra: Last Encore is merely [A Fragment of 2030]
But in [Another Ending]...Hakuno-chan was the [Victor From the Moon] who carries with her [Spiritron Portrait: Nero Claudius]
For Fate/Extra they should've made a anime version of Fate/Extra CCC, i mean, that would've been more itneresting at least for non JP, after all the game was never released outside of japan (sadly)
Funnily enough, the problem was that Nasu just wrote a dorstooper (as he tends to do) and shaft compressed it into mere 13 episodes.
We may never know what he actually had in mind. I guess he's not great at writing screenplays.
@@Javifaa And that's why Last Encore is one of the worst entries in the series.
Nero was my favorite thing out of this confusing mess. She was a breath of fresh air and always gave me a laugh while on screen
I absolutely adore Nero from extra
For me who only watched last encore and has no idea just what the F happened in the first try
This is helpful :}
I mean I honestly speaking the anime would have been great if it would have had a session one and then extra been session two or somthing like that.
Also great job unconfusing this for me and others.
4:39 isn't tamamo his first servant?
Maybe it's because I was playing Fate Extra concurrently while watching Last Encore, but I didn't really feel that the series was that confusing, literally the only thing I wasn't aware of about the anime was that the monster from Alice's floor was the Jabberwock, it just didn't click when I watched those episodes.
The series still had flaws, but being confusing wasn't one of them for me.
18:25 i would have loved to see more of her if the did more with the drama cd’s and her servant ( witch was fafner by the way how’d she lose)
"Nasu makes rules and breaks them" sums up pretty much why I hate Nasu so much.
I FINALLY understand this!
People hate it because it butchered the psp games plot and characters
@@LunaPPK Yeah, I learnt to view different media as parallel worlds. It has brought me so much inner-peace
Vlad lancer Saber > Lancer
also since rin was saved this is rins route
