I remember inbetween episodes and after i finished the show i was constantly searching stuff up so i could understand what the actual fuck was happening. It was okay to understand at first but the more it went on the more confusing it got lmao Tbf tho, it did get me interested in Fate/EXTRA so i guess Nasu kinda succeeded in some sense
Shinji was better in the manga. I really like the part where it's revealed that he's actually an eight year old boy who thinks it's all a game and the prize is money and fame. He didn't know he was killing people, he's just an eight year old super hacker. You are now entitled to review Fate/Extra:CCC Foxtail manga in order for us viewerbase to get more Shinji.
it's also the case in the anime. He didn't think people would die when he kills them, automatically making him the most redeemable character here, then, when he came to the realization, chose to help everyone survive then died arguably on purpose against hakuno.
Back in dark ages that's fate/extra (the game), it caused some people to actually like him since when he gets defeated, he actually reverts back to kid mentality, you know, whole screaming that this is just a game, other are probably alive and well, breaking down about not wanting to die, ya know, that kind of stuff.
Shame the OP's visuals were super lack luster. If they we're even half as cool to watch like any other Fate opening it would easily be one of the best.
This anime was definitely a "wtf did I just watch?" It's supposed to get people into Fate/Extra but it's a "what if" scenario that takes place AFTER Fate/Extra in a world where the protagonist failed and died. Wtf Nasu? The only thing of worth in this train wreck has been all of the UMU fanservice.
Nero was originally drawn by Takeuchi (the man who draw Saber and is responsible for the Saberfaces), hence why she was initially referred to as "Red Saber". It was only when Wada Arco (the horniest woman on the TYPE-MOON team and mother of Hololive vtuber, Kronii) replaced him after some time and a couple of redesigns, did we get the current look of Nero. Her actual height is actually much shorter than you think. You can see this in FGO where the child servants are either the same height or taller than her.

In my experience, having Fate/Extra be the first Fate thing I engaged with and having VERY fond memories of it. Last Encore is ultimately a mixed bag whose reception will vary wildly with personal taste. There are some things that are done great like the animation/visuals and Nero, some things that are very arguable and down to personal taste like what they did with Alice and Rin and Rani, and some things that are...just bafflingly bad like everything with the Dead Face, Hakuno, and Twice. In my case I found it to be a very pretty dumpster fire. It had a lot of interesting new ideas that had a lot of potential to be great but in execution just kinda fell on its face more often than not. And the existing Extra stuff that did make it in was generally not handled super great either. (except for Nero) If the thing you liked about Extra was the plot and characters...you probably won't like Last Encore I think. If instead you were more interested in the setting than the game plot, you might like Last Encore.
This anime is definitely an UMU/10. Now seriously, Hakuno is so much more interesting in the games than how he/she's portrayed in the anime. Also, in the original games you get to know Rin and Rani since the first floor before the war even starts, so they're much more compelling. What baffles me even more about this show is that it was directed by Nasu himself; dunno what he has hoping to achieve making THIS an introductionary show to the Extra timeline. Also, as I've read the comments and know you're planning on covering the original Fate/Stay Night, I'm just recommending you watch the "Learning with Manga!" Fate/Grand Order animation, even if just by your own and you don't end up making a video about it. As from the transitions you used on your videos, you at least know how the mobile game works, and it's just random stupid humor as the Carnival Phantasm series.
Can we talk about how Gawain's awakening his master was awesome? Leo getting out of his coffin like a Dark Souls boss and Gawain's theme kicking in when he uses Excalibur Galantine was fire.
One of my major gripes that I don't see anyone talk about is that since all servants that Hakuno can use in the game are canon (cause Nasu) so it sucks that they only went went with Nero cause Saber face and not give Tamamo and Archer like anything at all, even a one shot episode where we see them use their noble phantasms (Archer has probably the best UBW animation in all of Fate + the way he says it too).
If I'm being honest, I really liked this anime even though I had no exposure to the Extra-verse before hand. Researching it simply made me appreciate Last Encore more. However, while I have defended this anime multiple times, calling it a good anime, there are problems. I think this video genuinely sums up my feelings. 1. UMU- enough said 2. Nero- enough said (perfect example of how to make great static character- not every character in your show needs to be as deep as the Mariana Trench). 3. The animation/art style- I love Shaft's work and I love the way Last Encore looks. It's not Ufotable, but the animation here is actually quite good. It's like Lunar said, you appreciate the story a lot more if you have the necessary background information. However, I still think it works, even if you don't. I honestly think it's over exaggerated how little the show makes sense, with no context. I think it's honestly just people giving up, because they got bored with the anime.
I think Nero is actually a fairly deep character, especially in the original Fate Extra. The way she opens up to Hakuno about her past life and her beliefs while learning to accept herself and helping her Master towards the same goal is honestly beautiful and easily rivals Artoria's relationship with Shirou. The fact she can put on a happy face and carry her own name with pride in the end is the result of some subtle, but meaningful character development. Honestly, her greatest achievement is being so darn lovable no matter if you perceive her as a happy go lucky girl or a commentary on humanity as a victim of circumstance. The Umu is just as sweet either way.

Yet, I have heard the problems with it and, while I do want to check it out eventually, I think I will wait for the Fate/Extra Record first. For one, I currently have no way of playing the original, and I also kind of know exactly what happens. Some I spoiled myself on to understand the anime, some the anime spoiled (duh) and some things I specifically tried to avoid, but internet is the internet sometimes (literally hit me with the "didn't even search for it, or anything about it, yet still gets articles and videos with spoilers in the titles or thumbnails about it- thanks recommended). But, even though I'll wait for the remake, I'll definitely play the original eventually

Personally, I thought the Alice part was the best part of the anime apart from the ending. It's animation style was different from the rest and I'll be honest I did cry.
Normally an anime adaptation is meant to hype you up to read/play/watch the source material. Last Encore makes me hesitate on whether Fate/Extra Record will be worth the wait or they'll do this again. At least they pulled it off in Tsukihime, where they mainly left Arcueid's route unchanged and changed Former Worst Girl's route.

The PsP game which the remake is based on is way better than the Anime, but I'll still enjoy my Umu's no matter what form she takes in anime. Really annoyed Grand Order is skipping around the Singularities instead of just doing them in order, Jalter needs animated, More Nero in Septium, more Drake in Okeanis, Mordred in London, Lion head Thomas Edision in America. Instead they go from the prelude to the 7th singularity confusing anyone who hasn't played the game and then after that the 6th in a two part movie. And I'm just l like I want more Umu and Drake! Also hate that Shinji gets Drake, she's too good for him
Almost finished Fate anime, now apart from tv specials and ova's like my fav "Learning with Manga! Fate/Grand Order Animation" you only need to watch Kara No Kyoukai. And maybe Canaan, wait you don't have to, or maybe actually should, I am not sure about it. Also it would be great if you reviewed Tsukihime, but it doesn't have anime adaptation so how about original Visual novel original with hentai scenes or Remake that has 50% of the story and doesn't have hentai?

*Why Fate Extra was a Dissaster* Yep basicly they hired Nasu ( creator of the fate multiverse) to write for the anime but instead of writting a script he wrote instead pages and pages of text something like a novel. Studio shaft ( who did fate extra) couldnt transcrypt whatever the hell Nasu wrote and so we ended up with this mess.
I do like this anime, it has its good points, most of the fights, the animation, Nero, the music, and I know it’s controversial, but I like male Hakuno, mostly for how his story makes you think, [SPOILER WARNING IF YOU DON’T KNOW THE STORY] with the flashback scenes he’s in not matching the present, people not recognizing him, and you start wondering what’s happing. And when you learn he’s a dead face, and you think about it, everything clicks into place and the past scenes with Nursery Rhyme and even the ones with Shinji aren’t Hakuno’s memories, and that he wasn’t alive until the stone Emiya is chasing him, which is years after the massacre, the grail war, and female Hakuno’s death

Good call on spoiling the 'story' since a lot of the negativity this show received understandably comes from those who were not introduced to the original material. I only enjoyed it because of being one of the lucky bunch to stumbled upon the game, and I'm someone who hates relying on external media to enjoy a story.
Why anyone could think picking an alternate bad ending route to a property to be adapted as the STARTING POINT for said property is actually insane. Fate/Extra was never my personal favorite but this adaption choice screwed it over so much.
Hakuno in the game : A random bit of data with actual personality. Hakuno in the anime : Some angry edgelord who is more bland and generic than Sieg from Apocrypha.

Nah bro you hit this spot on. It makes no logical sense how they made this. I played the original game on PSP and liked it. It could've been a cool adaptation I think. But they just did a story that essentially REQUIRES you to play the game to understand ANYTHING going on. It's dumb. And makes me sad. Because I love Nero...Glad the game is getting a remake at least. Hope that's better. Also english Dub doesn't have Nero say Umu, just goes, "Indeed!" more sadness.
Ah yes, even as someone who played all three routes of Fate/EXTRA and watched what ZVN had of CCC on TH-cam as I wait for IwakuraProductions to finish the editing and testing phases of their fan translation before release, alongside completing Exetlla and Exetlla Link: I still don't understand most of this anime. But anyways have two fun facts about Fate/Extra Last Encore besides its state of not being the greatest. As stated on his blog at one point, Nasu confirmed originally Fate/Extra Last Encore was going to be an adaptation of Fate/Extella Zero. Essentially the route that lead into the Extella games that featured Hakuno with both Tamamo and Nero as their Servant and Nameless being the Servant of the opposite gender Hakuno who would've been an ISO. That said as we know, this never occurred and we don't know too much about Extella Zero besides CCC happened in its route and had Gilgamesh around as well giving one Hakuno three Servants and what I just said from Nasu's blog or in Extella. As for why this didn't occur: The Japanese fanbase had a poor reaction to Extella Zero so Nasu had to come up with something else quickly. Also there's like an audio drama CD that gives context to what happened to the original Master character they made for this anime and barely did anything with besides pair with "I'm actually 8 but this isn't CCC so I'm still a bit of a douche" Shinji, Misao Amari. Her Servant was Fenrir in the Rider Class and they died off-screen to Rin on the first floor. Also in that drama CD is where you get Tamamo, the other waifu Servant of EXTRA who is just narrator on the fourth floor they skipped telling shit to a dead Female Hakuno or something since Nasu cut her episodes and wanted to do an OVA instead and then decided not to do an OVA for her and so she got that.
As a person who played Fate/Extra years before the anime was even announced... I was so angry. - They cut half of Shinji's plot, making it start great but fall short. - The "New Girl" has her background and past explained in the middle of the Alice arc, just to cut her... actual involvement???? Way after her involvement was over off-screen??? What the hell?! We even missed Fenrir!!! (YES, FENRIR IS A SERVANT HERE) - The 4th round was filler on the original game, but they somehow managed to NOT make it filler... AND THEN THEY SKIP IT ANYWAYS. Goodbye Tamamo. - Almost all fights lost what made Fate/Extra good, the actual strategy behind most fights. They only do that with Robin Hood and somewhat Alice, everything else is an insta-win button for Nero. When they took that long hiatus after the Rin-Rani floor, I just never picked it again.
The Alice Floor, made me think it was bad time reset floor to suffer through… but then I remembered the Endless Eight Arc from the Haruhi Suzumiya show. Now that was a cluster fuck and felt light a fever dream, because you were basically force to watch 8 episodes that were basically the same with little variations to the other 8 episodes. Which in turn wanted you to drop the damn show.
Won't lie this is my guilty pleasure of the fate series. Also really glad I played the fate extra game before watching this. Last encore is one of the most anime animes shaft has made.

Well technically the 4th floor was tamamo apparently but honestly my real problem with the anime is almost exactly with the dies irae anime with it just trying to condense a long game into very few episodes, and like both ost Carries and one fight and the original source is better.

This stupid ass anime ruined the Fate/Extra franchise for me, Fate/Extra was one of my favorite games ever, i was so extremely hyped for it getting an anime adaptation and we got... this. Why Nasu, why the fuck did you ever think this was a good idea at all? Oh and, Lunar incase you didn't know, the reason why the Tsukihime anime "doesn't exist" is because it was such an awful adaptation that fans of the original visual novel pretend that it doesn't exist, now you might be thinking "it can't be that bad" but trust me when i say this, you would have so much more fun sitting through and reading the visual novel than sitting through that hot pile of garbage, because it's just that bad of an adaptation, it's not even bad in a funny way, it's just extremely boring and amplifies all the boring scenes in the visual novel to make them even more boring and cuts out on all the hype and epic moments that made the visual novel so good, it's such a godawful anime adaptation, i reccommend you to just read the Shingetsutan Tsukihime manga because you will have a way more enjoyable time because the Tsukihime manga is an amazing adaptation of the visual novel. People shit on the DEEN Fate/stay night adaptation because it tries to cram a 60 hour visual novel into 24 episodes, but the Tsukihime anime manages to do that in only 12. Just read the manga instead.

Okay, so I just started this series on Netflix cuz fate is supposedly hype, and I'm SO confused. The other fate series(stay night I think) has the characters desiring to END the holy grail war and stop the beef. The blue haired guy shinji creates a world where u can live freely without having to kill. Basically doing what the stay night guy tried doing. Yet the new mc goes "nah we like killing mfs round here" and murks dude because he wants to struggle and win.... Tf?😂 I get having an issue with giving up your servant(bro was living the good life with rider tho, and she was fine asf too lol) but the new guy could've just asked to keep Saber and still live in peace there. It's crazy cuz I kinda view Shinji as a good guy while the new mc kinda comes across as a villain. I get wanting to whoop Shinji ass cuz he killed u but Shinji kinda came across as wanting to save ppl.
Yes it's 5 out of 10. But at the end you know it's just a part of a bigger picture. Kinda like the MCU (Marvel), Tom Holland version of spiderman is okay but lacks refinement in comparison to Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. Still spiderman but a different version. Still a holy grail war but a different version.

I liked this anime, but it also sucked. Not even Nero understands what's going on (she said it herself). I still wish for an (proper) anime adaptation of Fate/Extra and I hope they use Tamamo instead (Nero had her chance).
The general consensus is that, yes, Last Encore sucks, Extra game is way better and with the remake being developed then it will be easier to get into the story, i think that besides the two DEEN adaptations you skipped, the OVA of Case Files, and the last Illya movie you are done with Fate (until they animate something else), so basically Kara no Kyoukai movies when?
As someone who played the extra games and watched gilgamesh‘s ccc route on yt (why still no official eng extra/ccc), I hate the anime. Love Nero in it, but it‘s just so frustrating, that this is how they expect people to be introduced to the games, just remake them already! I rather want people to play extella blind, than watching this anime for their introduction to extra.

I honestly think it's over exaggerated how little the show makes sense, with no context. I think it's honestly just people giving up, because they got bored with the anime.
I think Nero is actually a fairly deep character, especially in the original Fate Extra. The way she opens up to Hakuno about her past life and her beliefs while learning to accept herself and helping her Master towards the same goal is honestly beautiful and easily rivals Artoria's relationship with Shirou. The fact she can put on a happy face and carry her own name with pride in the end is the result of some subtle, but meaningful character development. Honestly, her greatest achievement is being so darn lovable no matter if you perceive her as a happy go lucky girl or a commentary on humanity as a victim of circumstance. The Umu is just as sweet either way.

Yet, I have heard the problems with it and, while I do want to check it out eventually, I think I will wait for the Fate/Extra Record first. For one, I currently have no way of playing the original, and I also kind of know exactly what happens. Some I spoiled myself on to understand the anime, some the anime spoiled (duh) and some things I specifically tried to avoid, but internet is the internet sometimes (literally hit me with the "didn't even search for it, or anything about it, yet still gets articles and videos with spoilers in the titles or thumbnails about it- thanks recommended). But, even though I'll wait for the remake, I'll definitely play the original eventually

Personally, I thought the Alice part was the best part of the anime apart from the ending. It's animation style was different from the rest and I'll be honest I did cry.

Normally an anime adaptation is meant to hype you up to read/play/watch the source material.
Last Encore makes me hesitate on whether Fate/Extra Record will be worth the wait or they'll do this again. At least they pulled it off in Tsukihime, where they mainly left Arcueid's route unchanged and changed Former Worst Girl's route.

The PsP game which the remake is based on is way better than the Anime, but I'll still enjoy my Umu's no matter what form she takes in anime.
Really annoyed Grand Order is skipping around the Singularities instead of just doing them in order, Jalter needs animated, More Nero in Septium, more Drake in Okeanis, Mordred in London, Lion head Thomas Edision in America. Instead they go from the prelude to the 7th singularity confusing anyone who hasn't played the game and then after that the 6th in a two part movie. And I'm just l like I want more Umu and Drake! Also hate that Shinji gets Drake, she's too good for him

And maybe Canaan, wait you don't have to, or maybe actually should, I am not sure about it. Also it would be great if you reviewed Tsukihime, but it doesn't have anime adaptation so how about original Visual novel original with hentai scenes or Remake that has 50% of the story and doesn't have hentai?

*Why Fate Extra was a Dissaster*
Yep basicly they hired Nasu ( creator of the fate multiverse) to write for the anime but instead of writting a script he wrote instead pages and pages of text something like a novel.
Studio shaft ( who did fate extra) couldnt transcrypt whatever the hell Nasu wrote and so we ended up with this mess.
I do like this anime, it has its good points, most of the fights, the animation, Nero, the music, and I know it’s controversial, but I like male Hakuno, mostly for how his story makes you think, [SPOILER WARNING IF YOU DON’T KNOW THE STORY] with the flashback scenes he’s in not matching the present, people not recognizing him, and you start wondering what’s happing. And when you learn he’s a dead face, and you think about it, everything clicks into place and the past scenes with Nursery Rhyme and even the ones with Shinji aren’t Hakuno’s memories, and that he wasn’t alive until the stone Emiya is chasing him, which is years after the massacre, the grail war, and female Hakuno’s death

I watched this right after apocrypha and I hated how flat sieg was that my brain immediately latched on to Hakuno
Good call on spoiling the 'story' since a lot of the negativity this show received understandably comes from those who were not introduced to the original material. I only enjoyed it because of being one of the lucky bunch to stumbled upon the game, and I'm someone who hates relying on external media to enjoy a story.

I watched this a while ago and I've gotta be honest. I don't remember a single thing that you just said happening in the anime. It's definitely one of the Fate animes of all time !
Hakuno is leagues better than whatever the fuck Seig was. All I remember of Seig is him being a Cardboard box.
Nah bro you hit this spot on. It makes no logical sense how they made this. I played the original game on PSP and liked it. It could've been a cool adaptation I think. But they just did a story that essentially REQUIRES you to play the game to understand ANYTHING going on. It's dumb. And makes me sad. Because I love Nero...Glad the game is getting a remake at least. Hope that's better.

Ah yes, even as someone who played all three routes of Fate/EXTRA and watched what ZVN had of CCC on TH-cam as I wait for IwakuraProductions to finish the editing and testing phases of their fan translation before release, alongside completing Exetlla and Exetlla Link: I still don't understand most of this anime.
But anyways have two fun facts about Fate/Extra Last Encore besides its state of not being the greatest. As stated on his blog at one point, Nasu confirmed originally Fate/Extra Last Encore was going to be an adaptation of Fate/Extella Zero. Essentially the route that lead into the Extella games that featured Hakuno with both Tamamo and Nero as their Servant and Nameless being the Servant of the opposite gender Hakuno who would've been an ISO. That said as we know, this never occurred and we don't know too much about Extella Zero besides CCC happened in its route and had Gilgamesh around as well giving one Hakuno three Servants and what I just said from Nasu's blog or in Extella. As for why this didn't occur: The Japanese fanbase had a poor reaction to Extella Zero so Nasu had to come up with something else quickly.
Also there's like an audio drama CD that gives context to what happened to the original Master character they made for this anime and barely did anything with besides pair with "I'm actually 8 but this isn't CCC so I'm still a bit of a douche" Shinji, Misao Amari. Her Servant was Fenrir in the Rider Class and they died off-screen to Rin on the first floor. Also in that drama CD is where you get Tamamo, the other waifu Servant of EXTRA who is just narrator on the fourth floor they skipped telling shit to a dead Female Hakuno or something since Nasu cut her episodes and wanted to do an OVA instead and then decided not to do an OVA for her and so she got that.
As a person who played Fate/Extra years before the anime was even announced... I was so angry.
- They cut half of Shinji's plot, making it start great but fall short.
- The "New Girl" has her background and past explained in the middle of the Alice arc, just to cut her... actual involvement???? Way after her involvement was over off-screen??? What the hell?! We even missed Fenrir!!! (YES, FENRIR IS A SERVANT HERE)
- The 4th round was filler on the original game, but they somehow managed to NOT make it filler... AND THEN THEY SKIP IT ANYWAYS. Goodbye Tamamo.
- Almost all fights lost what made Fate/Extra good, the actual strategy behind most fights. They only do that with Robin Hood and somewhat Alice, everything else is an insta-win button for Nero.
When they took that long hiatus after the Rin-Rani floor, I just never picked it again.
Its even worst cuz they wrote the literal final bosses to literally leave the scene cuz they got bored.

The Alice Floor, made me think it was bad time reset floor to suffer through… but then I remembered the Endless Eight Arc from the Haruhi Suzumiya show. Now that was a cluster fuck and felt light a fever dream, because you were basically force to watch 8 episodes that were basically the same with little variations to the other 8 episodes. Which in turn wanted you to drop the damn show.
Won't lie this is my guilty pleasure of the fate series. Also really glad I played the fate extra game before watching this.

Well technically the 4th floor was tamamo apparently but honestly my real problem with the anime is almost exactly with the dies irae anime with it just trying to condense a long game into very few episodes, and like both ost Carries and one fight and the original source is better.

This stupid ass anime ruined the Fate/Extra franchise for me, Fate/Extra was one of my favorite games ever, i was so extremely hyped for it getting an anime adaptation and we got... this. Why Nasu, why the fuck did you ever think this was a good idea at all?
Oh and, Lunar incase you didn't know, the reason why the Tsukihime anime "doesn't exist" is because it was such an awful adaptation that fans of the original visual novel pretend that it doesn't exist, now you might be thinking "it can't be that bad" but trust me when i say this, you would have so much more fun sitting through and reading the visual novel than sitting through that hot pile of garbage, because it's just that bad of an adaptation, it's not even bad in a funny way, it's just extremely boring and amplifies all the boring scenes in the visual novel to make them even more boring and cuts out on all the hype and epic moments that made the visual novel so good, it's such a godawful anime adaptation, i reccommend you to just read the Shingetsutan Tsukihime manga because you will have a way more enjoyable time because the Tsukihime manga is an amazing adaptation of the visual novel. People shit on the DEEN Fate/stay night adaptation because it tries to cram a 60 hour visual novel into 24 episodes, but the Tsukihime anime manages to do that in only 12. Just read the manga instead.

Okay, so I just started this series on Netflix cuz fate is supposedly hype, and I'm SO confused.
The other fate series(stay night I think) has the characters desiring to END the holy grail war and stop the beef. The blue haired guy shinji creates a world where u can live freely without having to kill. Basically doing what the stay night guy tried doing. Yet the new mc goes "nah we like killing mfs round here" and murks dude because he wants to struggle and win.... Tf?😂
I get having an issue with giving up your servant(bro was living the good life with rider tho, and she was fine asf too lol) but the new guy could've just asked to keep Saber and still live in peace there.
It's crazy cuz I kinda view Shinji as a good guy while the new mc kinda comes across as a villain. I get wanting to whoop Shinji ass cuz he killed u but Shinji kinda came across as wanting to save ppl.
Yes it's 5 out of 10. But at the end you know it's just a part of a bigger picture. Kinda like the MCU (Marvel), Tom Holland version of spiderman is okay but lacks refinement in comparison to Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. Still spiderman but a different version. Still a holy grail war but a different version.

I liked this anime, but it also sucked. Not even Nero understands what's going on (she said it herself). I still wish for an (proper) anime adaptation of Fate/Extra and I hope they use Tamamo instead (Nero had her chance).
The general consensus is that, yes, Last Encore sucks, Extra game is way better and with the remake being developed then it will be easier to get into the story, i think that besides the two DEEN adaptations you skipped, the OVA of Case Files, and the last Illya movie you are done with Fate (until they animate something else), so basically Kara no Kyoukai movies when?

As someone who played the extra games and watched gilgamesh‘s ccc route on yt (why still no official eng extra/ccc), I hate the anime. Love Nero in it, but it‘s just so frustrating, that this is how they expect people to be introduced to the games, just remake them already! I rather want people to play extella blind, than watching this anime for their introduction to extra.
