So if I'm understanding things correctly: the Fate franchise revolves around the guardians from the age of gods. Tsukihime revolves around the ancients and the dead apostles. And Kara no Kyokai revolves around people with origin powers. But what they all have in common is that the earth is trying to stop people from messing with something that could end the world. Did I get all of that right?
@@otakudaikun Thanks. Great videos by the way. I've never played the visual novels and have only seen the anime of UBW, Zero, Apocrypha, 10 episodes of Last Encore and Carnival Phantasm. This helps give me a better understanding of the Nausuverse and the characters in it.
One of the best things about Kara no Kyoukai: It does what so many stories attempt to do, have a romance between an edgy antihero and a nice everyday person, and it does it right.
About Mitsuru. Both of his eyes were special. His right eye, the one that broke, allowed him to see the "ideal" future. The future is not set in stone, but rather comes about depending on our actions. What Mitsuru sees is a very specific future that only comes about as a result of very specific actions. What his LEFT eye allowed him to do was see EXACTLY how to do said actions. So he could see an optimal future with his right eye where he threw a can through a crowd of people and into a trash bin without hitting any of the people, and his left eye allowed him to know how to achieve said future. But with his right eye destroyed, his left eye now has nothing to achieve.
So it's like having the buttons to your TV remote torn out so you can't change it to your favorite show anymore. Even if it's still functional, without the crucial component, it's worthless.
I think the best way to describe it is the right eye is the components to a device and the left eye is the instructions on how to make it. Without the components, the instructions are worthless
Another thing to add to the Nasuverse lore is the 'marked for sealing' thing: Touko and Kiritsugu's Father were basically wanted from the Magic Association for their work/accomplisments; that's why Kiritsugu's father was in that small island and Touko has a barrier around her office/workshop.
Red Horseman Are you sure about that? I don't recall Touko ever being declared a criminal or rogue by the Association. Then again...she DOES steal Aoko's paychecks from them a lot...Kokuto even calls her out on it in one scene.
i can understand Aoko being marked for sealing due to her having very controversial and dangerous magic but it doesn't seem like Touko has done anything that big.
Well actually she has done something big. She is good at building puppets, and you can see she could even build herself, this is a technique that worth of a marked for sealing...What's more, she is good at Rune, which is also powerful and hard to complete.
Aoko isn't a sealing designate, since the Mage Association doesn't have enough balls to try and manipulate the Fifth Sorcerer. Touko is, though, since she's effectively made herself unkillable and the MA is jealous.
Nasu after making KnK: so it seems like people liked Shiki and mystic eyes of death perception, so let's write another story that also has a main character named Shiki who has mystic eyes of death perception
IIRC, Kara No Kyoukai is the 1st novel (though not published as 1st novel, just as a passion work) written by Nasu before he becomes an official novelist. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong.
My brother untoduced me to this series, fate, tsukihime all of type moon and eva about 10 years ago. Kara no kyoukai is probably my favorite if not one of my favorite anime ever. Shiki is my favorite anime character
Some extra details in addition to this very well done video. -Modern magi do not practice what is called Magic from the Age of Gods. They mainly practice an inferior version of that, called Thaumaturgy. The difference is that Magic is the ability to actualize miracles, to create something from nothing, to turn lead into gold. It completely defies logic and has inexhaustible power, as it originates directly from the Root. Mystery plays a heavy part in its potency. Thaumaturgy is the natural result of humans gradually deviating from fairy tales and mythology in favor of understanding the world scientifically, decreasing Mystery and basically losing the ability to recreate Magic. It is inferior in that it follows the laws of the world to create phenomena. It shares similarities and works hand-in-hand with science, so magi can only do as much as science allows. That's why Medea vs Rin in FSN was child's play in terms of magical power. -The goal of magi is to reach the Root to understand the universe. Another goal of theirs is to recreate Magic, which spawns directly from the Root. Those who have reached it come back and established the Five Magics. The First and Fifth magic were the result of reaching the route, and the Second, Third, and Fourth were devised as ways to reach it. The only known holders of these Magics is Kischur Zelretch with the Second, Justeaze Einzbern with the Third, and Aoko Aozaki (Touko's sister) with the Fifth. They are the only true Magics in modern day. However, nobody has been documented to have touched the Root directly, as it is theorized they would cease to exist as they essentially return to the Root where they originated from. If they still had a conscience, they may become something akin to God, but no one has been seen doing so yet. -Aozaki Touko created Garan no Dou as one of many bases to hide from the Mage's Association. That's why, if you watched the movie, she mentioned she had a barrier around it that interferes with perception and was thus surprised Mikiya could find it. The reason she's running from the association is because of her peerless puppetry skills that, if she had no obstacles, could have gotten her to the Root. You can see some of it in KnK where it's revealed she has attained a sort of immortality by successfully replicating her own body, which comes alive when the active Touko dies, retaining the same memories and skills. She is avoiding getting a Sealing Designation from the Mage's Association so that she won't be monitored and have her work halted. -Kamekura Mitsuru has powers in both eyes. His right eye sees the future, while the left eye can see the steps in which to achieve that future. This may seem like a super OP power where Mitsuru can technically pull off any plan he wanted to, but Shiki's overpowered Mystic Eyes demonstrate a weakness in this Precognition power. In a sense, Mitsuru is not a precog, but rather one who projects a future reality within a space. He isn't actually reading the future like Shizune Seo is, but rather making one up. If you have to make up future, you inevitably have to work to make it happen, as opposed to actually reading a predetermined future that's outside of your control. That's the reason Shiki could cut his Precognition, because he was projecting an outcome that Shiki would die, which means it isn't guaranteed. -Satsuki Kurogiri's power involves speaking the Unified Language, the standardized language of the kingdom of Babylonia (not actually a thing btw) that has a strong connection to the Root. At the time of KnK he was the only Unified Linguist, and it functions like one of the most powerful forms of telepathy and hypnotism, as these words have a connection with the Root, so resisting the Unified Language is like rejecting yourself. -Mirai Fukuin, the "epilogue epilogue" where Mitsuru works for the Ryougi syndicate, has a final flashback of the male SHIKI on one of his walks, where he meets a recurring old fortuneteller, the only true precog in this whole series. SHIKI was stopped from killing the old lady after the latter accurately stated that SHIKI has absolutely no future, maybe alluding at him sacrificing himself during Shiki's coma, to which SHIKI realizes the fortuneteller is the real deal. However, the old lady added that despite his impending doom, his dream will become realized, which is to live alongside Kokutou. SHIKI understands that as the female Shiki living his dream, to which he finally attains peace of mind toward his feelings for Kokutou. It's an effectively bittersweet touch to the end of KnK that I feel needs to be mentioned. SHIKI never got a lot of screen time, but it's a testament to his character when he can still be so impactful in his appearances.
I am very happy that this video exists. I just started showing this marvelous series to my friend yesterday, and now I feel completely prepared for when he inevitably asks tons of questions. Also, that "sister slammer" line killed me.
@@TaigaXsenpai Depends on how they earned said ability... Most ESP are Mysteries but most Mystic Eyes can be Magecraft based... Mystic Eyes are a type of ESP in Nasuverse...
Ty for making this video, it actually helped me understand the deep lore of this series a lot more. I love Ryougi Shiki as a character because I feel like she is a deconstruction of the typical seinen protagonist, how she fits so well into the lore of the nasuverse as a whole is amazing.
I watched these movies religiously, so I already understood most of this, but what blew me away was your ability to condense it all so cleanly and concisely. What would take me ten minutes to explain to someone takes you ten seconds without being wrong. You know exactly how to take all this complex mess and reduce it down to its most important bits, and that is impressive.
pwnorbepwned I always try to find the essence of any given story. Basically, in the Nasuverse, there's so much jargon. Albeit very fun to follow, it can sometimes miss the heart of the story.
07:07 Nasuverse metaphysics is complex x---x even after seeing almost all anime Fate, Kara no kyoukai and reading wiki few times, it is still confusing for me still it makes it interesting :D
You should try debating a character out of Fate/Nasuverse against a character from a different franchise, half the time we ourselves don't have any applicable feats. Case in point Void Shiki, who has only claims and no feats to her name :P.
@@jasperreyes5174 fighting against a Demon God Pillar in the Time Temple, we don't have anything else. And remember, that's pretty weak. Karna and Arjuna for example can kill dozens of them.
You may have found them already as it has been 2 years, but if you haven't checked them out yet, maybe take a peek at Angel Notes and Tsuki No Sango. Both are theoretical "bad ends" that the Nasuverse could end up at, but neither future is set in stone.
Found your video precisely looking for someone to explain the whole Kara no Kyoukai series and I was not disappointed. Great job!! Hope you can do a video like this for Ergo Proxy anime some day :)
Thanks for the breakdown. I just finished this series and this helped to clear up any confusion or missed facts. BTW I found out about this anime through you.
Super happy to see this. I love the "Nasuverse", and in particular Kara no Kyoukai is one of my favorites. This did make me realize I missed some so I have to look for the bombing one and the actual ending. May rewatch all in this order now too.
What you didn't mention in this video was how Kara no Kyoukai characters served as archetype characters for later Nasuverse works Tsukihime and Fate/Stay Night. Just compare the characters of KnK with certain Tsukihime and FSN characters and you'll see. Not only do they share similar appearances but also similar character personality, behavior, and disposition that mirror each other
So do I though that maybe because KnK anime is better than actual Tsukihime anime in characters, OST, and animation. Also what you probably didn't know was that KnK was the very first work Kinoko Nasu wrote KnK and that was when he was still in high school. KnK established the foundations of Nasuverse's magic system that would later be solidified in the Fate series. This is what I think the main Nasuverse chronology looks like: 1) Mahou Tsukai no Yoru - occurs some time during 1980s 2) Kara no Kyoukai 3) Tsukihime & Fate/Zero - both occur in the year 1994 4) Melty Blood 5) Fate/Stay Night - occurs 2004, 10 years after Fate/Zero 6) Fate/hollow ataraxia - occurs 6 months after FSN 7) Fate/Grand Order - occurs in year 2015 The future has two possible endings that occurs in the year 3000 - either Notes or Tsuki no Sango
I was under the impression that Fujino didn't lose her sensisitvity to pain at the end of the fight, as she keeps saying things like "I want to live" (I think) and when you say things like "I want" in Japanese, you end it with "itai," but "itai" also means "pain," meaning that she's both crying out from the hurt as well as lamenting the life slipping from her. (I think that's how it goes, anyways. It's been a long time, so it's very IIRC.)
They are right. Don't watch Tsukihime Anime. It was even not admitted by Nasu himself. So maybe we can pray for a remake version of Tsukihime...Maybe...? And Arcueid(heroine of tsukihime) also appeared in Fate/Extra as a servant, maybe you want to play that game to know something about her.
I just now watched this anime (i know a bit late lmao) and i loved it. I understood pretty much everything, but i wanted to watch this to see if i missed anything, and i thought u did a great job summarizing everything, and surprisingly, i did miss a few details that i learned from watching this vid which is very cool. Thanks for the great video
i love ur video it will helps ppl a lot who r curious & want to know more detail about this masterpiece cuz not many ppl know about kara no kyoukai series
There was a short film right after Future Gospel called Future Gospel - Extra Chorus, which consists of three short stories, you seemed to have left it out. Other than that, thank you for making the video, hope more people notice this masterful series!
Kara no kyoukai really gave that feeling of mystery and character development for Shiki from being conflicted to reaching mind peace thanks to Kokuto Mikiya, It's a masterpiece that I would never know of If I didn't dive to deep into the Nasuverse outside of the Fate series alone, while I still don't know If Shiki Ryougi and Shiki Nanaya or Tohno from Tsukihime are considered overlapments, but being that both Aozaki sisters, Touko and Aoko, exit in both, It'd be interesting to see how there are 2 Shikis with both having mystic eye of death perception would interact, being that Nanaya is basically a Mikiya version of Ryougi. Maybe It's a shared fate for both Aozaki sisters to meet a Shiki and teach them how to properly utilize those mystic eyes.
@OtakuDaiKun Actually, what halts the deternet force is actually discussed between Touko and Araya. They call this bounded field, a shielded space. It exists due to the building being his body, creating a zone where Alaya cannot reach. But as Touko states, by taking Shiki into the building, he allowed the counterforce in though Shiki.
I don’t know if people know this, but every single movie is available in full on crunchy roll. I just finished them a few weeks ago and they’re a great binge watch during quarantine.
Oh man, thanks a lot for this vid! I just finished watching all of Kara no Kyoukai and I loved it though my head was swimming by the end. Damn, never been mindfucked this much since NGE and Ghost in the Shell... (Kara no Kyoukai is certainly joining them as among my top favs) This vid cleared everything up for me. Now I feel like I wanna watch it all a second time. :D
I know that I'm incredibly late, but it has been confirmed that Kara no kyokai is actually in the same universe as the Fate Stay Night verse. It was hinted in the Advanture of Lord El Melloi II novel in volume 2
Just happened to find this clip now and I wish I found it years earlier. Served to clarify a whole lot about this movie series (seriously, out-of-order episodes confuse me like crazy). About yakuza families like the Ryougi clan, based on what I can understand, while many yakuza families deal with illegal stuff (drugs, smuggling, money laundering, etc.) the original purpose most yakuza clans serve is as a criminal deterrent group or gang of sorts. Remember how old Japan during the age of the samurai had Daimyo rule their own provinces? Those daimyo have to rely on clans that "reign in" the many small towns that make up their provincial territories. That's because having to employ a huge amount of soldiers all the time as a private army at all times to enforce governing rule can send any daimyo bankrupt in just a short amount of time. These soldiers mostly work as farmers among other production jobs when they're not soldiers during wartime after all. Now, these "clans" that reign in the small towns were called Yori-Oya and Yori-Ko if I recall correctly. These clans often have familial connections that span entire village and town populations to some extent, because back then your neighbor might as well be your in-laws that your sibling marries into and vice versa. Their world scope was quite small if they wanted to live stable in one place. Anyway, because of this network of relatives, these clans are often left to police and protect their own towns and villages, especially since bandits were still a thing and police (a.k.a. Doushin) weren't that present in places where the daimyo himself actually lived in. These clans would then ask for protection money and deal with trouble in their territories instead of passing all the peacekeeping to the daimyo all the time. Unfortunately, many clans like these will have corrupt practices or members taking advantage. Protection and security becomes extortion, and some even turn to crime syndicates themselves. These were what we now know as the earliest yakuza clans. Not all of them, but a lot of the oldest ones came from that flow, most probably like the Ryougi clan. Since extortion and taking the law into one's own hands is illegal now yakuza clans have become criminal syndicates in the eyes of the law. I assume the Ryougi clan are more to the traditional, more acceptable, version like the proper ones back in the day, seeing as another yakuza clan written by Nasu is the same (hint: Taiga). Finally, about the Root, or basically where all these Nasuverse magic comes from and why every magus in the story seems to be crazy enough to do mass murder without any guarantee it'll lead to a path to the Root and that never truly gets explained everywhere in specific as far as I recall. I believe Nasu is following something I call a "Chaos-Order Theory". In my own words, in the beginning there was nothing (a.k.a. Chaos). When the first instance of existence appeared in this nothingness "Order" was established. Everything in the world as we know it are made of chaos and order. Chaos allows us humans to make mistakes (or sins/crimes) while Order allows us to recognize those as mistakes. It is also Order that dictates the laws of physics (a.k.a. Nature), which is why magic and sorcery "defy" the laws of physics. Basically, in Nasu's world, magic is a power that lies behind Chaos. It's the power that gave birth to all of existence so go figure. People who come in contact with the Root basically come in contact with a path leading to the Root of all things, meaning Chaos. People who study magic are learning how to turn things of order into chaos to bring about the desired result/phenomenon. Basically, breaking the laws of physics or nature to do something. That's why it allows Magus with Root powers to do amazing things, because they have more access to Chaos to do things normally not possible under the influence of the rules imposed by Order (remember, existence/Order was made from Chaos). It's like having more supply of black paint to paint over white paint. The more black you add the more the influence of the white begins to get overwritten. The reason why those villain mages seem to do those crazy mass murdering things is because they are essentially trying to create chaos, perhaps without actually realizing it themselves. That is why they feel like what they're doing will bring them closer to the Root. I assume it is also why a magus will gain great power from finding a path/door to the Root, but must not open the "door". It's like finding a faucet to get some water versus opening the door and diving into the middle of an endless ocean with 100% no return. I think that's how it all works based on this theory of mine. In case you're looking for a connection of this theory to the Fate Series, let me point out that Tiamat (a.k.a. Beast II) is said to be the Sea of the Void (or nothingness/chaos) and is also said to be the discarded womb after it gave birth to all of existence during the genesis. In other words, Tiamat was the embodiment of the remains of the Chaos that was used to make the first instance of Order. That's why her Nammu look like monsters with no coherent proper form as living beings, similar to why Nrvnqsr Chaos looks quite similar as well (he has melded with so many other souls that he has turned into a being of chaos).
One more thing to clarify is that her clan is more a remnant of demon hunters than straight up yakuza. They were quite successful before demons became less common, and the family is mostly coasting in its laurels since then, retaining that high society structure with guards and servants.
Wow really nice video, thank you for the explanation which gives me several things that I haven't noticed while watching Kara no Kyoukai Everytime Shiki just goes on Mystic eyes of death perception mode with the epic music always makes the relatively short fight scene becomes amazing like what she did to the bomber guy in future gospel, and her declaration to Fujino that she can kill anything And also I really like how Nasu seems like reusing some of the non-fate characters like Tomoe and Shirou Emiya, Fujino Asagami who I think has kinda same dark background like Sakura (and also that rapist who still survive I think he might be the prototype to the bastard Shinji)
Yes, pretty much. Fate Grand Order has a Kara no Kyoukai event and Shiki is even a servant in the game. She also makes a cameo as the bonus boss for Fate Extra. The clock tower and mage's association are the same, and the root is the same as well.
thomnas ilikeswordfighting Yes. Magecraft works the same way. An example of punishment by the Deterrent Force Araya was trying to avoid very well could have been Archer from UBW showing up to kill him. Shiki is summonable as either an Assassin or Saber in Fate/Grand Order; her special crossover event should be in January 2018 for the English version of the game. Watch any Fate/Grand Order AMV to see a shot of Shiki rushing across the roof of a building at Artoria in her cloak and crown as she turns to face her, the rooftop lighting up in both golden flecks of Excalibur's power and the red lines of Shiki's Mystic Eyes before they clash with knife and sword drawn. She cameos in a bar in Carnival Phantasm. You see Cornelius Alba in Fate/Zero on the island of Kiritsugu's youth as he's burning ghouls. Touko and Natalia use the same brand of rare cigarettes. Touko also supplied Medusa's glasses in Stay Night to suppress her own Mystic Eyes. Her little sister Aoko is not in Fate, but features prominently in Tsukihime. On that note, Tsukihime's sequel fighting game, Melty Blood, features Shiki Ryougi as a fighter. That's about all I can think of off the top of my head.
Wow! I know he covered it in the video but is there any other way to watch this!?! like a safe streaming website or something!?!?! i really want to see it now
Thank you for succinctly explaining the lore of this series. I'm doing the KnK event in FGO right now and it's good to have delicious background knowledge I missed out on. So much lore... But I feel like half of the reason for all of it is so Nasu can break his own world's rules in fun and interesting ways that drives everyone bananas. Not that I mind, mind you.
Does that mean that Natalia Kaminski knew a thing or two about Origins in order to make the 66 bullets for Kiritsugu? if so then,..wow..I'm in love with Fate/Zero even more now.
Some fans speculate that Natalia Kaminski might be Puppet Touko... Natalia's Design was Aozaki Touko's design before the release of the KnK Anime where Touko first sported the Red Hair Version... Using the same smokes/ cigarettes as well... Look up Aozaki Touko on Fate/ Extra... That's her character design before the first ufoTable KnK anime came out...

I just rewatched your review again after a whole year's worth of watching the KNK movies on n off. I can't thank you enough for making this information available to people like me who would otherwise not have been interested in KNK if we had just watched it straight on Dx While you'll never see me paying $$$ for the KNK dvds, I WILL whale on Fujino to NP5 her once she comes around in the re-run event in FGO ~~~ I honestly thought that last bit of her re-appearing in the Extra Chorus was a great touch and way to end the series. Also now I know where the cat comes from :O Onward to collecting all the Mamiko Noto servants in FGO ~~~ xD
I love that version to be honest but I still prefer the original song by Bôa. I was just scrolling through the comments to see if anyone else had recognised it and commented about it. Glad I'm not the only one lol. Take care of yourself sorry to bother you. :)
One thing that I think was missed that was worth mentioning was that she either partially tapped into Akasha shiki or it was a complete switch during her fight with souren since that's the point when she explains how powerful she truly was when she started cutting space it self to close the gap which is a concept normal shiki wouldn't even think of (she knows she is op enough). It would give a bigger insight on why they kept that personality far from the story. Oh! And maybe the fact that since her male self died she compensated combat wise by having a form of cognitive dissonance when it pertains to her weapons because he didn't just comment on her fighting ability but also the fact that she can change her whole self by holding a different weapon allowing her to use the style fully. I could be mistranslating on the weapon part but I get excited when I talk about type-moon anything lol
Kevin McBeth I see. It makes sense if that was Akasha Shiki at the time. I never had anything to definitely say that but it definitely fits her behavior.
Incredible! Another great job! Unfortunately you seems to lacking few information, exclusive only to LN. I, myself, am only after reading two first tomes of LN and I must say, story wise their are realm above movies. But movies do a good job, portraying the story. They just lack of necessary explanation of the most events or even mechanism behind all of those incredible powers(i.e. that Asagami Fujino awaken Clairvoyance at the end of her fight with Shiki or why exactly Shiki decided to spare her life). Well, we can only hope that they will translate more tomes to english(in my country we have already first and a second one in ours native language)

@@otakudaikun heyy I finally finished it. There were admittedly some dry parts but looking back at everything, it was amazing. Rly good watch. Also this video cleared up a lotttttttt of confusions I had with the series. Thanks.
Why the Ogawa Building is a way to the Root is explained in the novel. It's basically magical mumbo jumbo, Araya created a closed microcosm (akin to a Reality Marble) than ends within a day based on the numbers of the I-Ching and is repeating death so he can discern the pattern behind all of it and ultimately find the truth beyond death itself, opening a new path to the Root. The novel even says he recorded and reduced all possible ways of death to 64, and he plans to get more and more into the specific until he finds a metaphysical truth in all of it. Shiki just makes everything easier because she has a connection to the Root by herself, so the building can act as a ritual in order to use that path.
Ooh, thank you for the insight. I figured it was something loaded with jargon like that. The method doesn't really have much dramatic appeal and I wish I could understand it better. Nasu's probably like Tolkien in that he has rules and logic that don't even make it into his official works. The inner workings of Nasu's magecraft is akin to learning the Elven language.
Well, it's like in actual mysticism, the important part is the symbolism and the concept behind it. This works in Nasuverse because magical theories and foundations are engraved into the Earth and also fueled by human belief. Both Mahoyo and Lord El-Melloi II Case Files focus a bit into that.
yokushinoshugosha It had two purposes. The act of accessing Akasha as you described, and protection from the Counter Force. He could have done all of this with new human Guinea pigs every time, but that would require committing mass murder with magic and being a supernatural threat to too much human life, effectively marking him as a target for elimination at the hands of a Counter Guardian or other Beast of Alaya. By doing all this with puppets controlled by living brains, he brilliantly performs this unending death spiral without actually taking a single human life, or at least keeping the death toll to a minimum.
Hey I recognised that Real Folk Blues midway through the video 😎 Edit: Right after, I heard that rendition of Euphoric Field 👌 good taste, my guy Edit 2: Mag Mell too? Damn
Akashic Records is a real concept. Nasu verse is something I believe takes from the truth of what humanity has tried to hide for so long. The truth of our reality. Akashic Records Annunaki Enuma Elish Ancient Sumeria Gaia (earth) and her soul etc
I really appreciate the explanation you gave for the whole Kara no Kyoukai series in a way that made more sense. I must confess that at first I only saw this movies mostly because they were made by the same anime studio of Fate, Ufotable. I like the main characters and I mostly understood the overarching plot of the series, but it took me a while to understand the plot of some of them (mostly movies 5 and 1) due to the fact that I saw them in release order. As UndertheScope said in his review: its not a series for everyone. Also, I know this is a minor detail, regarding Azaka´s feelings towards Kokutou, while a bit odd at first, I didn´t see them as something "perverse", the way the 6th movie presented it, I saw it simply as big love and devotion towards her brother in a way that she couldn´t express it.
Alvaro De Grandes It's hard for me to say just how close she wants to be with her brother if allowed. I agree it does mostly boil down to her being overprotective rather than incestuous.
@@otakudaikun Azaka's Origin is the lynchpin... She's being drawn into things that are "Taboo" since that is her Origin... Incest is one of the societal taboo so... People who recognize their Origin are more inclined to fall to their impulses in relation to their Origin... Yes... Azaka is actually feeling Incestous Love towards Mikya because of her Origin but she decides to reign it all in...

Basically king crimson
I think the best way to describe it is the right eye is the components to a device and the left eye is the instructions on how to make it. Without the components, the instructions are worthless
Another thing to add to the Nasuverse lore is the 'marked for sealing' thing: Touko and Kiritsugu's Father were basically wanted from the Magic Association for their work/accomplisments; that's why Kiritsugu's father was in that small island and Touko has a barrier around her office/workshop.
Red Horseman That's right! I actually forgot that since it's not a huge plot point.
I thought Tsukihime came out first....
Parker Stogdill That would be funny if Tsukihime wasn't released first
Cake# that’s fair I’m dumb, but hey it still works, just in the opposite order
IIRC, Kara No Kyoukai is the 1st novel (though not published as 1st novel, just as a passion work) written by Nasu before he becomes an official novelist. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong.
iirc KNK was the first work Nasu ever created even before TypeMoon was a thing.

I love these 20-30 min in-depth lore video format
Emil0v I'm planning on releasing my Extra video this Thursday. I really gotta experience Tsukihime.
READ THE MANGA BRO, in addition to the VN of course
Beautifully put. Thank you.

You're welcome! I try to make my videos timeless.
What you didn't mention in this video was how Kara no Kyoukai characters served as archetype characters for later Nasuverse works Tsukihime and Fate/Stay Night. Just compare the characters of KnK with certain Tsukihime and FSN characters and you'll see. Not only do they share similar appearances but also similar character personality, behavior, and disposition that mirror each other
worldwanderer91 That's certainly true. Though I must say I like KnK's characters more than Tsukihime's.
This is what I think the main Nasuverse chronology looks like:
1) Mahou Tsukai no Yoru - occurs some time during 1980s
2) Kara no Kyoukai
3) Tsukihime & Fate/Zero - both occur in the year 1994
4) Melty Blood
5) Fate/Stay Night - occurs 2004, 10 years after Fate/Zero
6) Fate/hollow ataraxia - occurs 6 months after FSN
7) Fate/Grand Order - occurs in year 2015
The future has two possible endings that occurs in the year 3000 - either Notes or Tsuki no Sango
worldwanderer91 I thought it was Notes that was first. Or was it the first one released?
Angra Mainyu Pretty sure Notes came first but it was more a tale of the universe than specific characters.
Amazing
Have seen the movies several times with my brother, and I always thought that there were 2 personnalities. Thank you, it make more sense now
this cleared up a LOT of things. Thanks
Mikiya did well to avoid joining the Sister Slammer club since SHIKI would most likely enter Berserker class then :p
Attis Rebirth She can be unpredictable when it comes to love. That said, she might be surprisingly open to polygamy. I've no idea.
It's been a long time, so it's very IIRC.)
tomoe looks like shirou
Shirou EMIYA Nasu likes to reuse designs.
i am surprised that you didnt mention the fact that he looks just like younger me
Souren looks less like Kirei and more like Nrnvsqr Chaos to me.

They don't make this sorts of show anymore. This show holds a high rewatchable status. I will watch it again when winter comes.
@OtakuDaiKun
Actually, what halts the deternet force is actually discussed between Touko and Araya. They call this bounded field, a shielded space. It exists due to the building being his body, creating a zone where Alaya cannot reach.
But as Touko states, by taking Shiki into the building, he allowed the counterforce in though Shiki.
Thanks for clarifying lot of things especially the moral alignment of Shiki. Now it all makes sense.

5:20 I think you didn't understand araya's intention.
That said, this video had some great insights
Wow really nice video, thank you for the explanation which gives me several things that I haven't noticed while watching Kara no Kyoukai
Everytime Shiki just goes on Mystic eyes of death perception mode with the epic music always makes the relatively short fight scene becomes amazing like what she did to the bomber guy in future gospel, and her declaration to Fujino that she can kill anything
And also I really like how Nasu seems like reusing some of the non-fate characters like Tomoe and Shirou Emiya, Fujino Asagami who I think has kinda same dark background like Sakura (and also that rapist who still survive I think he might be the prototype to the bastard Shinji)
Great video! I just finished this film series and had to watch this :)
wait, so does this take place in the same universe as Fate?!?!
Like is there ever a cross over or mention of one or the other in the shows!?!?

Neat, I will check it out and come back here.
Awesome video!
Btw in the beginning the song is serials experemints lain op in 8 bit
Ya welcome
I love that version to be honest but I still prefer the original song by Bôa. I was just scrolling through the comments to see if anyone else had recognised it and commented about it. Glad I'm not the only one lol. Take care of yourself sorry to bother you. :)
I revisited this video again and only to know that there was indeed a kara no kyoukai translation.
kaivin88 For the novels?
Anybody else getting a feeling of "Hey i remember that!" By seeing this video after seeing KnK for the first time through the FGO event rerun?
Shiki and Mikiya is getting involved with Lord El-Melloi II (Waver Velvet) at Case Files.
as of 4/19/2018 you can watch this on prime video if u have amazon prime
TSkillzX I'm glad it's getting more attention.
I'm just finished my third film, and its kinda eh right now but that clip starting at 0:47 fucking sold me so hard. Also cool to see it being held up to series like steins gate, imma probably keep watching it
I love the slow bits and the intense ones.
@@otakudaikun heyy I finally finished it. There were admittedly some dry parts but looking back at everything, it was amazing. Rly good watch. Also this video cleared up a lotttttttt of confusions I had with the series. Thanks.
Is now available for stream in VRV
I absoluted ADORE the movies, everything about them!....yet I could never understand the story and its order 😂 thank you so much for this video!!
I remembered her from metly blood. Hell I never know she had a movie series
Wow. So Shiki is a LITERAL waifu :O
Somehow I love her even more now :D
Hey I recognised that Real Folk Blues midway through the video 😎
Edit: Right after, I heard that rendition of Euphoric Field 👌 good taste, my guy
Edit 2: Mag Mell too? Damn
Anas Rahman A lot of my bgms are rearrangements of recognizable songs.
OtakuDaiKun nice
Akashic Records is a real concept. Nasu verse is something I believe takes from the truth of what humanity has tried to hide for so long.
The truth of our reality.
Akashic Records
Annunaki
Enuma Elish
Ancient Sumeria
Gaia (earth) and her soul etc
Yes... Azaka is actually feeling Incestous Love towards Mikya because of her Origin but she decides to reign it all in...
mama shiki looks so lovely
Hamayr Reminisce I'd be okay if she didn't. She's been through a lot. She deserves to retire^^;
Some animes I dont see in your list:
This list is based on animes you have seen and i thought are in the same range.
Hope you have time and enjoy them
1. Mirrai Nikki
2. Elfen Lied
3. Stranger: Mukou Hadan
4. Hakuouki serie (both chronical or release order are fine)
I've actually seen all of those but Stranger. What's it about?
I didn't saw them in your list, thought they might be to your liking, good you have seen those already (update your list :) )
Stranger is about a boy who is an orphanage and trying to survive in the era of samurai. Shortly after the movie has started it becomes clear there are a group of assassin's after him(I forgot why, but hey that's a spoiler otherwise so you ain't getting that :P) , he meets a Ronin (aka called the stranger), who in return for a jewel as reward helps him. After that things keep adding up and escalates into a final epic samurai battle.
English is not my native language and I am not that good in explaining stuff, so I hope this is helpful to you :)
Also let me know if you liked it or not, I really hope you'll like it, otherwise I would feel bad for wasting your time :(
Well Mirai Nikki and Elfen are on there (not the OVAs and such though). I dropped Hakuoki.
an advertisement brought me here....better be worth it
Thanks for the like and sub^^
