Istrian peninsula is world famous for their white and black truffles. That's why all Croatia enjoys that uthentic experience on the plate.glad you enjoyed it guys.
I'm loving your videos guys! I was in Zagreb last month, on holidays from Australia. You'll love it there- Great food too! If you're still in Zagreb, theres a shop simply called Burek, located at the bottom of the Dolac market. The best burek I've ever tasted (get the one with the meat). Have fun!!
Following you guys for many months now and woww look at how much your channel has grown!!! Really enjoyed all ur vids :) can’t wait to see ur channel grow to a million subs :) #dreambig #envision
Ah, thank you very much! Indeed, without a dream and passion to pursue it you don't have a chance. We'll keep trying our best. Really appreciate the support.
It's so great that you guys are vlogging your journeys through Eastern Europe...it all looks as stunning as Western, not that any one of them is the BEST. There is just a variety of beauty to behold....Thank you for taking us all along for the ride...speaking for myself, your videos make my own plans for traveling that much more prepared and with excitement to see for myself what is outside my little circle of existence...lots of love to you guys!
Thank you very much! We felt very fortunate to spend quite a bit of time in Eastern Europe in 2017. It certainly has a lot of underrated places worth exploring. That is great to hear and hope you'll be on the road soon.
Yes, you have to try local traditional food "Štrukli sa sirom" (Shtrukli with cheese). The only downfall of eating Štrukli",you could become addicted to!
Great vlog.Audrey your personality is really shinning through, and your funny,Sam I like your hair almost at the hockey stage if I remember my boys. This vlog had excellent descriptions of the food, but alas I haven't any truffles I my house to put on my scrambled eggs.Safe travels😀🇨🇦
Audrey pronounced "Fotić" very well. And, BTW, that's a pretty good choice of a bistro - when I worked nearby, that was my favorite lunch place. "Plavac" was derived from local "crljenak" variety from the coast near Split, which almost went extinct but was "resurrected" a decade or so ago. Italian "primitivo" and Californian "Zinfandel" are closely related. All those truffles come from Istria, of course. (I find them an acquired taste, BTW.) As you probably have noticed, we tend to eat salad as a side, not as a starter (although this slowly changes, and one can find salad-as-a-meal more often recently)
I saw you had breakfast in Tirana in what they refer to as Tirana castle (an Arcade of Cobbled streets with many Bars and Restaurants) within metres of a great and incredibly cheap Truffle speciality Restaurant. Did you get there by any chance?
Hi you two. Im so happy that I found your channel for some weeks ago. I really enjoy ur video's. Do you ask at each restaurant, if its okay to filming before you go in ? Greetings from Denmark :-)
Thank you very much! Welcome and we really hope to visit Denmark soon :) We've honestly just always gone in and filmed after placing our order with asking. Our gear isn't too big so I think most likely we just look like tourists taking photos of our food.
The Balkans have so much to offer and still not overrun like the rest of the Med and Adri.....I'm so glad you said wine has become "a routine" and not just "routine", btw.....:-)
Not that often. It tends to be when we're in transit and grab some pretty mediocre food from at a bus stop or when we first arrive at a place and just eat anywhere without doing research.
My wife's father was a Serbian and even he said Croatia was a gem , he cried when he saw the war on TV in OZ . We have been to Serbia but after your vlogs , we are going to visit Croatia. Thank you for convincing us , my wife said that after our experience in Serbia she would never go back near then again. BTW ... Sam .. get a mirror ;-)
Thank you! That is great to hear. I think you'll both love it. We really enjoyed visiting the Balkans and hope that peace if the future for this region.
I promise I will give you a comlete history of our unfortunate time with my wife's relations in Serbia , but tonight is not the night ... do press me on this because I would love the world to hear ... Merry Christmas to you wherever you may be .. x
Year 2000 ... we fly in from Paris on Yat, 4 hours late to even arive in Paris .. 3 hours later we arrive in Belograd , met by my wife's Serbian cousin and his son , the son speaks fluent english with an American accent as he learnt from watching Kojok as he tells us ... no problem there , the son is fabulous , his father, my wife's cousin very stand offish . We are driven 4 hours south to Chupria , I am told I must report to police station and give my passport to them for the duration of my stay ... no way I am doing this ... am threatened by the loacl police that they will lock me up if i do not comply. I ask to speak to the Australian Consulate in Beograd and I quote their phone number, bluff that I have political contacts in Australia and then I am allowed to be there but have to report at 8am with my passport every morning. ... Really feling welcome in my wife's father's home country ... I can no see why he never wanted to return. .... We have 5 days of really great fun and love with family we never knew existed. We then return to the airport to fly back to Paris ... Yat checkin says we dont have a "valid" reservation and maybe if we wiat until all Yugoslavs have been seated on the flight , then just maybe if there is a free seat or two we may be able to board. My wife is freaking out. We are , after an hour or so tld we may board via the tarmac "through that door" , pointing to a door with an armed military guy , we approach and he just waves his rifle in the direction of the door , we pass and find our bags on the tarmac with two military guys with guns standing over the and direct us to pick them up and go toward the plane where we are met by another two guys with rifles who eventually let us onto the plane ... had 2 Valium on take off and a large glug of brandy ... thank god Paris was 3 hours away ... no .. we are not keen on going back to Serbia ... Thanks for asking
Wow, what a story. Sorry to hear it went so sour. They can act very strange. I guess Milosevic's propaganda left it's claws in the collective consciousness.
Hi guys, I have never tried truffles before, does it taste earthy? Im actually afraid to try it cause I’m not a huge mushroom lover 🙁 all those dishes look deelish
I actually don't really enjoy mushrooms, except wild mushrooms cooked in a pool of butter, but truffles are amazing. I find it has a taste that vaguely resembles garlic, but more aromatic.
Angie, im from croatia and tried truffles a couple of times...on pizza, with pasta, risotto, steak... and all worked out so amazing... and dont be afraid, they taste far way better than mushrooms :)

Thanks Elvis! We had a great visit.
I love when Audrey said " I'm going to take a big piece of your truffle since you took a big slither of mine" You guys rock!
Hahaha...thanks! Ah, the things we say ;)

Yes, fotich is the right pronounciation. It means a small camera. Glad you guys like Croatia! :*
Thanks! Glad we got it right. Ah, that totally makes sense given the interior. We've had a great time!

If you are still in Zagreb try viska pogača on Christmas market and also try to find
other authentic dishes like sarma or shtrukli with cheese...
Thank you! Really appreciate those suggestions :)

Thank you very much! Oh truffles on scrambled eggs sure sounds good :)
Being across the Adriatic from Italy I would have to imagine Croatia has some great wines.
Yeah, it sure does! Plavac is a good one to check out :)
Thanks for the suggestion!
If you want the best wine in Croatia, go north and try pinot.
Yes, Zinfandel wine have roots from Croatia (called Plavac in Croatia) and it's brought to U.S.A. by Croatian migrant.

Yes, zagreb🎉
Thank you for showing that Croatian food is not just made up of tons of meat.
❤️
Thank you! We had some great meals in Zagreb.
I'm drooling whenever I see you eating ha!ha!ha! I know some are not really that delicious (for me) but with your expressions I feel like grabbing it.
Thank you! If only we could teleport food!

Thank you very much for explaining everything in detail. We sure miss the delicious food from Croatia.
Polenta and risotto in Croatia?! Makes sense since part of Croatia used to be part of Italy. Like Istria.

Thank you very much! :)

Thanks! Visiting in the off-season has been a real treat. Hahaha...fingers crossed it never becomes merely 'routine' ;)
the croatians are not balkan
@@DanTom72 They mostly are. Around 70% of Croatia is in Balkans and not just geographically.
polenta es una comida muy consumida en argentina, sobre todo en los sectores pobres
a mi me encanta la polenta con salsa de tomate
I love truffles!!!

Late comment, but you guys are so cute, hope you had fun and enjoyed your time here
Thank you! We had a great time.
🤩Croatia
How often do you get food that is just not very good?
Not that often. It tends to be when we're in transit and grab some pretty mediocre food from at a bus stop or when we first arrive at a place and just eat anywhere without doing research.
Audrey the way you are dressed was so cute and Samuel I like the Wolf look best on you.
Ah, thank you! I enjoy not shaving...hehe
❤️❤️❤️
Thanks!
Is that was a happy hour time?) or this restaurant has those kind of prices all the time?
It could be off-season prices but it was that price when we visited over several days :)
BOY...You guys and your Appetite for Food...!!
Hahaha...yep

Hi guys, I have never tried truffles before, does it taste earthy? Im actually afraid to try it cause I’m not a huge mushroom lover 🙁 all those dishes look deelish
Thanks! It is so hard to describe. Yeah, it is earthy and more rich than mushrooms. I would highly suggest trying it once if you can.
I actually don't really enjoy mushrooms, except wild mushrooms cooked in a pool of butter, but truffles are amazing. I find it has a taste that vaguely resembles garlic, but more aromatic.
Truffels are great must have it but only its little expensive!!
Deadzio no I’m not much of a mushroom lover
