Yes that was what sealed it for me too. And honestly I'm not the BIGGEST Starscream fan either. But seeing him kick the crap out of Devastator was awesome!
If you watched the tv show Blastoff was originally a WWII fighter plane. I think the reason he was made a space shuttle was because the space shuttle was a new popular vehicle in the 80s. The Combaticons are my favorite out of all the combiners. They’re a team that has a lot of good story potential and they’re based on military vehicles which are awesome. The best bruticus by FAR is the Mastermind Creations. Literally zero parts forming, looks basically perfect in every mode, and is much cheaper than any other offering. It is perfect.
The only Bruticus I have is the FOC one from 2012, I got all the characters for like 15 bucks each, and to this day it's one of my favorite combiners. Sure, Brawl leaves more to be desired, Onslaught's arms are weird, Swindle has a massive disproportionate chest, with Blast Off and Vortex being the only 'good' figures. However, that design already cemented itself in my collection so well that I don't want a Bruticus that's not the FOC game design. With the Gamer Edition Studio Series line now being a thing, my fingers are crossed for a new batch of updated FOC Combaticons who will combine together into a great Bruticus figure, and I hope they nail the engineering, too.
Hey that's great to know! Yeah ot had its problems but was very ambitious at what it set out to do. A for effort :) and yes it would be cool if they were to redo it and improve upon what they previously did for the studio series gamer line :)
Yes I realized I forgot to mention him when I was close to finishing my video. But the reality was that given his smaller size he was never really considered as an option for me. Shame as. I like the whole all in one engineering. And their Defensor looks so good!
There is a lot to like about the set. It was very ambitious in what it set out to do. But for me it ultimately failed in execution imho. The biggest problem is that they should have made Onslaught a voyager class toy to give Bruticus extra bulk.
@@StoriesFromTheToyshelf yea he’s a big boy I got him for the complete animation accuracy and the super g1 looking design he’s just perfect in every way not as big as he should be would need to be a lot bigger to hold mp megatron but he works out well for what he is
@Tarnx2007 if I could redo my combiners I think I would've gone with MMC. It seems they have a better head on their shoulders. Their Defensor is shaping up nicely.
No mention of the FOC Bruticus? I kid, I don't blame you, that version was a bad joke. I hade my Combiner Wars Bruticus set up next to my FOC versions along with the RID commands and it was night and day. Combiner Wars Bruticus plus Matrix Workshops, Toyhax and Perfect Effect
My favourite iteration of the Combaticons would have to be their Fall of Cybertron versions, where the game characterises them as essentially a Decepticon version of the A-Team. i.e. a ragtag, elite commando unit that (although unorthodox) somehow manages to complete their mission.
Were they also framed for a crime they didn't commit? 😅 just kidding! But in many iterations they were also war criminals so there that :) I never played the game but that's a nice take on them 👍👍👍
@@StoriesFromTheToyshelf Well, they were jailed by Starscream after disobeying his orders (for context Megatron was MIA) and losing half of an energon supply that was being transported by the Autobots. Though Onslaught considered this preferable outcome to letting the Autobots take it all, going as far as saying that everything going wrong was a result of Starscream's incompetence. They were later pardoned and liberated by Megatron when he came back and put Starscream back in his place.
@@StoriesFromTheToyshelf No, you can actually play this mission out during a few chapters in the game, with the climax having you combine and play as Bruticus. I recommend you watch Transformers Fall of Cybertron (Game Movie-Full Length) by JOHNNYFLASH, it’s exactly what it sounds like, basically Johnny taking playthroughs and cutscenes of the game and editing it into a movie.
@StoriesFromTheToyshelf Thats fair. It depends on how good you are with tranforming, for me its not hard but rather fun although I can see why it may be hard for some
@@StoriesFromTheToyshelf well, the only reason I started collecting legends because I haven't been interested with Hasbro stuff. Also, it's interesting how they can give such complexity in such a small toy
@@StoriesFromTheToyshelf I own 1 mp which is bonecrusher and my entire hopes and dreams were crush on using the other claw since I was hit with QC and it was missing a singular claw. (I don't think I can get a replacement part either). But understandable for your justification
Guilty. I actually got that set. It was an impulse buy but I immediately had buyers remorse once I stared fiddling around with it. I mean it was a very ambitious attempt at a modern combiner but IMHO failed in its final execution. I did consider getting the 3rd party Onslaught that made the combined form better. But I decided to cut my losses and just move on 😅
@@StoriesFromTheToyshelf I get it. You already sunk a bunch of money into a particular size. For me, I was waiting for a non-partsforming combiner. Anything less than that was a pass for me. So I never invested in the larger combiners. MMC is really stable too with more articulation than I think any other combiner, including ab crunch. Their defensor is probably even better.
So I get that the Aerialbots already had a harrier, but why not make him a bomber like teh original vehicle was? I get that these were already existing ( probably) japanese toys that were just brought over. The single engine plane turn into a helicopter. weird. Should have been Vietnam not a Japanese island.
It was an 80s cartoon so can't really peg them for historical accuracy 😅 also this is just pure speculation on my part but maybe given the history of bombing in Japan, maybe they didn't want anything to do with a toy bomber? I know it's a stretch but who knows? Space shuttles were more popular at the time? 😅
To Be fair it wasn't just IDW as I kinda stopped reading comics in general. But YES I definitely read and loved Last Stand. And made an exception to read every connected miniseries after even if I wasn't reading anything else :) given how often I go back to IDW for these videos though, I'm pretty sure I'll eventually get back to reading in detail all that I missed out on eventually :)
I actually prefer Blast Off as a jet. But dude the original toy had a faceplate. Why do a straight repaint of Slingshot, who had no faceplate (and already was a slight remold of Fireflight) when you can just do a 100% repaint of Fireflight (not a typo; not Firefly) and have it work?! I put some electrical tape on mine as a faceplate to make him look mote like Blast Off.
Yes thematically the jet does work better. But for me there is also a bit of silly charm with the fact that he was a space shuttle😅 and yes I agree that they should have used Fireflight/Firefly heas instead. Although for me, Blast off's equally unique facial feature are hisnhuge eyes/visor which is why I was sort of OK with Slingshots head initially thankfully Takara fixed it all up!
@davidm4566 hmm actually that could work :) I also like what 3rd party company Fansproject did in making him a drone thus keeping the sort of Space Shuttle shape....
Sorry bout that. Given his smaller size he was never in the running for a possible purchase for me. But I did realize I should have at least ed mentioned him given MMCs unique approach on the guy. But by that timeni was pretty much done with this video. Anyway, I do intend to give him a shout out on a related hort or something. Is that your Bruticus? How did he turn out?
@@StoriesFromTheToyshelf honestly god tier No partsforming on him whatsoever And he’s incredibly accurate with some of the best poseability I’ve ever seen on a combiner I highly recommend it There are a few problems like vortex’s head not staying on, and onslaught maybe looking a bit bland But the engineering alone would make this my favourite bruticus
@Bebe_Hippo nice yes I have heard a lot of good about it. And honestly if he was just bigger I would've strongly considered him. Although I figured the MMC figured the bigger size.might make it more problematic? I really lovebwhat I'm seeing from their Defensor so far!

I was never into RID but I did love the Ruination scheme. Almost got the box set released by Takara for their Transformwrs unite. As for WFC yeah guilty I was focusing more on my hunt for an MP Bruticus. Or at least the Bruticus sets that I still have in my collection. I did get WFC and immediately regretted my purchase. I mean it gets an A for effort but ultimately wasn't very good IMHO. They should havevmade Onslaught a voyager. I ended up selling him off pretty quickly.
I never played the game but from what I saw he did look awesome which is why for me the toy was extra disappointing. Yes hopefully a 3rd party company will do an improved version. Or even Hasbro as they seem to be releasing updated versions of their gamer line.

The companies should have made them that way
The thing with Devy though was that all six were the same size whereas the thennewer teams had a bigger central bot so I guess it evens out?
Unpopular opinion but i love the foc 2012 bruticus figure i know the figures are out dated but i love them anyway lol
There is a lot to like about the set. It was very ambitious in what it set out to do. But for me it ultimately failed in execution imho. The biggest problem is that they should have made Onslaught a voyager class toy to give Bruticus extra bulk.
@@StoriesFromTheToyshelf I understand! I respect you're opinion:)
I have ocular max 3rd party bruticus and it’s the best ever no parts forming and it’s completely stable
Yup! Even if I don't have it, the reviews have been great! Unfortunately for me, the scale wouldn't fit for my display :(
@@StoriesFromTheToyshelf yea he’s a big boy I got him for the complete animation accuracy and the super g1 looking design he’s just perfect in every way not as big as he should be would need to be a lot bigger to hold mp megatron but he works out well for what he is
@Tarnx2007 if I could redo my combiners I think I would've gone with MMC. It seems they have a better head on their shoulders. Their Defensor is shaping up nicely.
yea i definitely need k.o combiners
Ko chugs or MPs? Both are pretty plentiful I believe 😅
@@StoriesFromTheToyshelf combiner wars i think 50 dollars for bruticus is good
@@LIMITLESS2774 yup that sounds about right! Although I haven't seen many lately where I'm from
Top video 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you kind sir! Much appreciated 👍👍👍
I'm missing onslaught and brawl for my wfc bruticus
They shouldn't be too difficult to find on the 2nd market I hope!
Tolerant and understanding wives are a gift.
Yes they are! And I hit the jackpot 👍👍👍
I got that as an impulse buy and instantly regretted it 😅 it was a bit too ambitious and failed in final execution.
My Bruticus came as a vs set with Grimlock
Interesting. Which version of Bruticus was that?
It was made for the 30th anniversary Grimlock Vs Bruticus Toys R Us exclusive
@@dredd6696 nice! Better colors for Bruticus there!
MMC Brutius for me!!
Great choice! If you're good with the scale 👍
@@bryannkam this was the backstory in Fall of Cybertron?
@@StoriesFromTheToyshelf No, you can actually play this mission out during a few chapters in the game, with the climax having you combine and play as Bruticus. I recommend you watch Transformers Fall of Cybertron (Game Movie-Full Length) by JOHNNYFLASH, it’s exactly what it sounds like, basically Johnny taking playthroughs and cutscenes of the game and editing it into a movie.
@bryannkam OK cool will definitely check it out! Thanks for the recommendation! 👍
magic square for me
I'm not a legends collector but that does look awesome. I heard though that it's difficult to form Bruticus?
@StoriesFromTheToyshelf Thats fair. It depends on how good you are with tranforming, for me its not hard but rather fun although I can see why it may be hard for some
@@qynopus2017 I love a challenge but…NO I will not get Into legends 😂
WHAT!? NO MMC?!
Yup no MMC...I get that it is an awesome set but size wise it was never a consideration for me :(
Making Onslaught gay in the comics is wild.
Pretty wild...although not to generalise but it would explain his meticulous attention to detail 😅
I got magic square bruticus. (Got it in a slightly cheaper price). God vortex transformation was painfully confusing
I don't collect Legends but yeah I heard the arms can be really difficult. Looks amazing though!
@@StoriesFromTheToyshelf well, the only reason I started collecting legends because I haven't been interested with Hasbro stuff. Also, it's interesting how they can give such complexity in such a small toy
@@pat1r1ck yup! Many of them are amazing marvels of engineering :) I'm too deep into MP collecting to justify starting over with Legends :)
@@StoriesFromTheToyshelf I own 1 mp which is bonecrusher and my entire hopes and dreams were crush on using the other claw since I was hit with QC and it was missing a singular claw. (I don't think I can get a replacement part either). But understandable for your justification
@pat1r1ck ouch sorry to hear about bonecrusher. Did you get the official or the 3rd party one?
You missed the fall of cybertron set
Guilty. I actually got that set. It was an impulse buy but I immediately had buyers remorse once I stared fiddling around with it. I mean it was a very ambitious attempt at a modern combiner but IMHO failed in its final execution. I did consider getting the 3rd party Onslaught that made the combined form better. But I decided to cut my losses and just move on 😅
I was expecting Devastator to be reviewed 1st 😅
Oh Devastator is definitely in the pipeline :) but I had to go with my favorite first!
@@StoriesFromTheToyshelf Devastator is cool ,but Bruticus is cooler
@@Zygomatic_Bolt completely agree! 👍👍👍
True
Who is your favorite combiner?
Computron
@@Antifurryspy755 nice! Love Computron too...he deserves more attention :)
MMC is the best. I refused to get any "masterpiece" scale transformers that partsformed as that took it out of the realm of masterpiece.
Yes I heard a loy of great stuff about MMC. Unfortunately for me it really was the size that was the deal Breaker for me 😞
@@StoriesFromTheToyshelf I get it.
@markcastellanet9672 in a way I envy you as MMC looks like they will complete their combiners before all the others 😅
Get.the Jin bao OS devastator with kit 0.2
Thanks for the suggestion! He does look awesome! But for now I'm good...depending on looks I may give the SS86 version a shot
6:10 That’s a shame. You missed out on some classic IDW stories. Did you at least read The Last Stand of the Wreckers? Or The Trial of Megatron?
@@StoriesFromTheToyshelf True. I used to pretend that he could carry the Combaticons into battle the same way that Astrotrain could carry robots.
@davidm4566 hmm actually that could work :) I also like what 3rd party company Fansproject did in making him a drone thus keeping the sort of Space Shuttle shape....
No MMC bruticus?
Shame
Sorry bout that. Given his smaller size he was never in the running for a possible purchase for me. But I did realize I should have at least ed mentioned him given MMCs unique approach on the guy. But by that timeni was pretty much done with this video. Anyway, I do intend to give him a shout out on a related hort or something. Is that your Bruticus? How did he turn out?
@@StoriesFromTheToyshelf honestly god tier
No partsforming on him whatsoever
And he’s incredibly accurate with some of the best poseability I’ve ever seen on a combiner
I highly recommend it
There are a few problems like vortex’s head not staying on, and onslaught maybe looking a bit bland
But the engineering alone would make this my favourite bruticus
@Bebe_Hippo nice yes I have heard a lot of good about it. And honestly if he was just bigger I would've strongly considered him. Although I figured the MMC figured the bigger size.might make it more problematic? I really lovebwhat I'm seeing from their Defensor so far!
The first version of Bruticus I got was actually RiD (2001) Ruination. Beggars can't be choosers. But hey, you totally skipped on the 2012 War for Cybertron Bruticus! What gives?
I was never into RID but I did love the Ruination scheme. Almost got the box set released by Takara for their Transformwrs unite. As for WFC yeah guilty I was focusing more on my hunt for an MP Bruticus. Or at least the Bruticus sets that I still have in my collection. I did get WFC and immediately regretted my purchase. I mean it gets an A for effort but ultimately wasn't very good IMHO. They should havevmade Onslaught a voyager. I ended up selling him off pretty quickly.
It’s ok for transformers to not be G1 accurate
Yes it is 😅 but at the end of the day we Geewun collectors are a pretty stubborn bunch 🤣
My fav version is still the Fall of Cybertron one. Not toy wise... Still hoping we get either a proper toy, or a third party one
I never played the game but from what I saw he did look awesome which is why for me the toy was extra disappointing. Yes hopefully a 3rd party company will do an improved version. Or even Hasbro as they seem to be releasing updated versions of their gamer line.
@@StoriesFromTheToyshelf still holding out hope for Planet X since they seem to do good with the Cybertron figures, but at this rate, it will probably be Studio Series Gamer Edition... And honestly with their current figures I fear that they will break quickly
@@FlameGirlPlays-gq9xv yeah Planet X would be a great choice...was really tempted by their DInobots...but I just couldn't justify their purchase :P Didn't get into the gamer editions...are they really that fragile?
@@StoriesFromTheToyshelf so far mainly Bee and Cliffjumper. Their backpacks just don't give enough clearance for folding the legs up under them and as a result, are always popping right off
@FlameGirlPlays-gq9xv OK at least the others are better? 👍
