Two no-drama couples who found homes that make them happy. Nice!
In the US, once the seller has accepted the offer and the buyer accepts the condition of the property after an inspection, the seller cannot raise the price before the closing date.
I can't believe this is allowed in the UK. It seems so shady.
Anything can happen up until final exchange of contracts. It's called Gazumping when you get a higher offer and ditch the first buyers. England is a total nightmare for property buying now - solely because of the banking/debt theft. It only came in with the push of mortgages in the 80s, and the spiralling prices in Britain after that. My grandmother bought her 5-bed Victorian house in London for cash. We live in a messed up world.
And so it should be .....It used to be the same here in UK.
Yes thats very strange !
So not everything in the usa is strange
I just read about Phil's parents and I know he must be devastated. My condolences, Phil, and a wish for a peaceful heart.
Cept this episode was filmed in 2012 xx
There's nothing worse than moving into a place that has noisy neighbors! Good thing the noise was happening during their visit. I've pondered horrible scenarios for my young neighbors due to their sub-woofers and video games. I bought them headphones, but it was short-lived. We moved to the country and built a detached house. Happiness.
I wasn't feeling well this evening and then I bumped into this episode and watched it over dinner and I feel SO MUCH BETTER now!! Kirstie and Phil are fantastic cure! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS!! I'm very grateful.
I live in the States, and I absolutely love this show!!!
Me too. I also love Escape to the Country.
Me three on both shows!!!!
Man, I love Kirstie and Phil so much! They are awesome!!❤
What a nasty thing the vendors did by upping the price after the agreement! I can't believe the UK allows them to do that. Great episode, thanks for the upload.
Asking for more money at that point in the sale would be totally illegal in New Zealand. You get 10 days to do your due diligence or change your mind about selling, and once it’s a confirmed sale, that’s it, vendor has sold and the buyer has bought.
@@JillH419 same in Canada.
@@JillH419 And that is how it should be. Our system should be illegal, its as bad as gazzumping .
Nasty? They got a higher offer for their property, they didn't up the price of the house itself. The focus for the vendor is to get the best price.
@@martinfpavey I think that she simply meant AFTER and agreement had been made.
UK gazumping 2023 still goes on and it’s a disgusting practice. One minute you have a house the next you don’t. Happened to me and we had to pull out when told a higher cash offer was on the table and we would have to cough up more (we were top of our budget) and vendor had already agreed the price with us. A harsh lesson. Don’t trust anyone until you have signed and have the keys
It's disgusting that a homeowner can agree on a price only to demand more money later. Obviously a person's word means nothing in the UK.
How cool to see a little bit of Kirsties home 38:50
So far, just on house one with Phil. £30,000 under budget mean, they could incorporate the return beside the kitchen and have a very large kitchen diner. Upstairs, if the extension is 2 storeys, room to add a 3rd bedroom. That would increase the value hugely.
I would like myself some Rugby Player 😝
Great show. I did notice that the camera went up Sara's dress as she climbed the stairs -- not once, but twice. Not too polite.
It is a CameraMAN. What do you expect?
Both couples chose the best house.
PHWOARRR! Welsh Alex is a hottie!
Love the sound effects as Holly manoeuvred out of Bugsworth! Good to see you back with us, your devoted followers.
I can’t believe that it is legal, after a signed contract, for the land owner to come back and ask for more.
Thats the issue contract is signed late in the process so till signed it's not final
Long, long ago, in the 1960’s my then fiancé and I were going to buy a one bedroom flat in a very nice area in Pimlico near the river. It was on the market for……five thousand pounds! It was on the fifth floor which was a drawback but in all other respects it was a nice place. How times have changed.
You know the 60s was 60 years ago, right? No duh the prices have changed in six decades, lol.
@@thehungrygoldfish Of course times have changed, but it's still interesting to look back. I bought a one-bedroom flat on Prince of Wales Drive in Battersea - a pretty good area - for 17 thousand pounds in 1980!
@@karent-s7639 You got ripped off. I bought a 500 bedroom mansion right in the middle of Chelsea just yesterday for one pound! omg! Beat that, grandma!
@@thehungrygoldfish Under the pitch, right?
@@thehungrygoldfishgo outside and touch some grass.
I'm curious: why rip out the downstairs bedroom. Why not just build one upstairs?
I think it’s because it’s unusual to have more than one bathroom in the UK and that the space for the downstairs bathroom is better used for more living space, particularly if bo one is going to use it in a daily basis.
Thank you!
Ealing isn't London 😂😂😂😂 Ealing is very much London. What a gem
I was residing in Ealing, very nice location, easy to go for grocery, way convenient to commute central london
That’s great, I’m happy for all. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️❤️💚🥰🤗
i can only imaigain how much more that flat in Ealing is worth now compared to the one they went with, yikes.
The one in Maida Vale is worth more. Location location location.
@@thehungrygoldfish i looked them both up, its not worth more by a long shot.
@@neojng I would imagine it’s not significantly more than Maida Vale. If you tell me it’s 200k more, I call bs lol.
We really see how London is a world unto itself. You don't want to be in the wrong suburb, do you
Everybody who wants to live in London gets fleeced . These prices are simply insane . So much money for such cramped space !
Location location location
Had to chuckle that the sheds are called "outhouses" since where I live that is the name for the toilet "facilities" when none are available in the house.
An outhouse IS a toilet but the couple are young and maybe his understanding of the word isn't up to scratch?
why not keep bathroom downstairs, and just put in a toilet upstairs? all u need/easy to find small space for that. way cheaper... in the middle of the night its just the loo u need afterall
Sounds like there was an enormous row after the second viewing with Fraser and whatshername --she gave up all for his dream job, she'll bloody well get the flat she likes
That's strange, did the furniture come with the flat?
Thanks for the mention of the wildfires. Never experienced anything like this. 🇨🇦🔥
Could I get a contact for reliable estate advice please
Marion is, low-key, difficult.
There's an undercurrent of entitlement in her.
Parking and that massive garden in Ealing is almost unheard of. Easy to get into the centre from the suburbs of LONDON (which Ealing definitely is)
Never understand that you dont want the bigger house but the smallerbe ause its “ close to the action”
Location Location Location. The reason why the other house is bigger is because the location is less desirable.
This must be pretty old, just saw a red telephone box…..
2014
It seems so very unethical for a vendor to ask for more money after agreeing to a price. I'm pretty sure it isn't allowed in this country (New Zealand). We have bought and sold a few houses and never had that done to us nor anyone else we know. It's so wrong. Surely an agreement is a binding thing?
It's not binding in England until the contracts are signed, which seems to be fairly late in process, just before settlement. Seems quite a nerve-wracking process but it seems not unusual on this show to hear "the sellers decided to take it off the market" months after agreeing to the sale price."
Thanks for the upload. Glad the husband agreed to the small flat. She moved for his job , so as it should be. Move to London , then be in London.😂
Since when is Ealing not London? Oh boy....
How long can one sustain a career as a rugby player ?
Depends on the position you play. If you're lucky with injuries you can play until your mid to late thirties in the English premiership. You may need to go abroad to the
states or Japan to get any longer out of your career if you're a big name.
May have some family money, his or her or both
With big names you can live off the status for a lifetime. Sponsorship etc
My neighbours have music playing a lot but my flats 70000 lol
Alex and Sara put in an asking bid, Phil said all in and $380 and off the market...so why did someone get to put in another offer and Alex and Sara had to come up with another 5 grand?
Yeah, in the Uk, anything can happen between when an offer is accepted and when they close on the house.
Totally unfathomable.
Because exchange hadn't happened. Once contracts have exchanged there are penalties for either party pulling out
Kirsty, get down from that table! How embarrassing for that woman and her husband.
Oh grow up .....idiot
Six miles feels a bit far out? I go twice that to do my shopping! Are these people serious?
It’s not only about the distance. It’s about living in an area you’re familiar with vs. living in an area you’re not familiar with.
You’re right. I will say though that at times it can be a huge difference. Just an example, I’m in San Francisco, California and during commute hour going just 3 miles can take 25 minutes in many parts. So crazy but true do I can understand factoring that into the equation. 😊
Correction: “crazy but true so I can understand “ -not- “crazy but true do I can understand “
I dont get why these couples want to live in London when they dont NEED to
What are you talking about? Both couples relocated for jobs. How is being close to your job not a need? lol
please....get another cameraperson.! I almost got car/seasick watching this.
love the show normally , but this was unwatchable.
Think it's more the editing 🤷♀️
Kirsty doesnt know which county Leeds is in!? Deary me...
She was asking in an ironic way - of course she knows 😂 they travel the UK all the time
An interior designer that doesnt want to renovate her own home...lol
That wasn’t the problem. The problem was the location.
@@thehungrygoldfish Yep. She wanted to be able to say she lives in "Maida Vale."
I love this show but I'm shocked at the frumpy clothes Kirstie wears. Half the time looks like she threw on a housecoat over her dress. She's quite pretty, so what gives?
