      @FigaroHey 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@AFAskygoddess Yes... I lived in Oxford as a student in the late 1980s. It has changed SO MUCH and not for the better. Social decay is rampant, breakdown of civility, violence, and an increasingly fragile 'safety net' (healthcare, policing, social services). The whole society is crumbling - values, manners, morals; crime - including violent crime - is increasing; the NHS is a shambles... It was in steep decline before Brexit, though. Frankly I can't see how Brexit can be held responsible for general social decay that has happened in 'the west' more and more rapidly since the Internet came into our lives. That - not Brexit - is where I've seen a rapid thinning of the social fabric in the country where I live (Central Europe, former Soviet satellite country which had an extremely strongly-knit culture before the Internet; I came here three months after the Soviet Union was formally dissolved, and society was stable and secure until the Internet, and then especially the young started becoming dramatically more materialistic and self-seeking and socially isolated than they were before the Internet and before people had mobile phones.) History will have to judge what caused the decline in Britain, but the decline is now clearly decay and degradation. My friends who are UK natives want to leave for a more stable, safer, cohesive society.

    • @FigaroHey
      @FigaroHey 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@ANIMALS_AND_MORE_moments I wonder why people are so upset over the UK leaving the EU. It's like Australia or Canada or the United States leaving the UK - why the hell not, if they want autonomy and to try keeping their culture and society and traditions together? So many traditionally British ways of life (industries, communities) were absolutely sacrificed and destroyed - which means lives and livelihoods were destroyed, which means culture was destroyed - on the altar of EU membership. And the EU was only created to try to avoid another European War, which is highly unlikely to happen on the same pattern it happened in the 20th century. Western Europe has got a culture war now, a really crumbling society, with people not giving a damn about anything but their material and consumeristic pleasures and goals. The EU was not conceived with the idea of guarding and preserving what is good in European culture, and it has done frankly nothing to maintain what is good and true and beautiful in any European country's culture. 'Avoiding war' is one thing; having cultures worth preserving from war is something else. And there's precious little left of European countries' cultures that is worth preserving anymore - and very few Europeans who give enough of a damn about their own culture to fight for it anyway. The Ukrainians still have a sense of the value of preserving their culture and country; the Poles... to some degree (though the youth, with whom I work, more and more say they would rather run away somewhere else and make money than stay and defend their own country). But western Europe is full of people who would not lift a finger or make a single sacrifice to preserve British or French or Swedish or Spanish or Italian, etc., culture. "Let is all be destroyed, as long as I get my pleasure and ease, without any responsibility." That sums up the attitude of most European youth. Their own selfishness is the enemy, not another Hitler - and the EU won't do anything to change that. If leaving the EU wakes the British up to doing some WORK to develop their own culture, economy and social structure, then it's a good move: rely on yourselves, not some huge bureaucracy, to make a good society to live in. The EU cannot build a good society. It wasn't created to do that; hasn't helped preserve a good society. So what's the point? No war destroying a society that is destroying itself from within anyway?

    • @truthonwheels8652
      @truthonwheels8652 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The EU is just a trading bloc that got too big for its boots and started imposing laws and regulations on us here in the UK that we never voted for when we originally joined. It was supposed to only ever be a trading bloc. We have had massive propaganda thrown at us telling us it’s all about unity and love and rainbows - when really it’s a mafia style trading bloc where we lose our voice, our laws and our identity.

    While i understand how unappealing it would be to live in a student area & also not add value to a house, as a 1st time buyer, i will be willing to compromise in these two instances if it will get me a turnkey house that is way below budget & has a garage. I could live in it briefly & sell up later. Deciding to go over budget for a house thar needs work when there are other people interested in the house as well is daunting so personally for the younger couple, i would have gone for that beautiful 2 bed flat in Heaton, the student area so far it is safe & secure.
