    Nice Video, I took my sweet time to watch every single of it, even rewind few times to catch some few words I thought I missed...lol..I actually own both Crane 3s pro package and Ronin RS2 pro Combo.
    The truth is that you need both, they have place where they outshine each other. It’s like comparing a Semi to a Sedan, both are Vehicles but have there uses when it’s best suit your work.
    You guys missed one thing on the Crane 3S though, it can also Zoom and focus on the Smart sling handle simultaneously, wheel for focus, up-down button for Zoom, if you don’t want to use the big glowing nob or it’s to far for reach.
    But all in all I appreciate this video. Even in May 19 2021 this video is invaluable.
    Thanks guy.
    Am Definitely subscribing to this channel.

      Are you saying that you can control focus from the sling handle and not the big focus wheel on the side? And if so, how precise is the operation? I find that focus wheel on the side to be uncomfortable to use when I have the gimbal upright, and that's the main thing keeping me from purchasing it.

    Thanks for the info. That battery door on the Crane 3s does seem to be the same as last years model. I may have used that gimbal a good 6 times and the door latch has already snapped. Also I am not sure how often updates the firmware’s. So far I have not seen any updates for my R5 or R6.

    Choice, it seems to me anyway, comes down to usage. The Crane obviously is a better fit for the Blackbox, but if you are only using DSLR, the RS2 seems to me to be the more compatible choice. An overlooked but significant caveat.

    I'm new to the pro gimbal setup, and there was a really good deal for me to acquire the crane 3s, my current camera is nikon z9, so to me, the payload is more important then anything else, took me sometime to figure out the each parts of this crane 3s, so far one thing surprise me is the z9 compare to you folks using, the crane 3s consider the z9 its light setup (lol) , the motors don't have to work that hard to balance the setup. After watched the entire the video (thank you folks for this great comparision) , as I mentioned the gimbal I got was a really really good deal (no where near the 3 years ago MSRP) so with all those plus points yall mentioned in the video, IMHO, I just hit jackpot for this :)
    Points you mentioned in the video, I fully agree with all those minus parts and even more with the good part, but those minus part I believe its not as bad as usually product defective, and its more like the balance the production cost or maybe just poor choice in the design. for the good part, especially the battery, I really dont mind to have 18650, and its great, save me even more for adding second set for the backup. Once again thanks for this great video, I'm try to learn more from still image capturing to the video capturing....

    A couple of points. First, you don't need a mobile phone to calibrate the gimbal, just use the dial and use the calibrate setting. Mine worked fine right off the bat. Secondly, that SmallRig collar has NATO rails on two sides and is perfect for attaching a side handle, like one of the SmallRig ones with a fitted NATO clamp. It makes not just holding and focus wheel control easier, but also lifting and putting the gimbal down.

    You would use the rosette and mark it with dry erase for choreographed shots. If you, as the operator have to go from mark to mark and your talent has to do the same thing, you can know where those focus positions ought to be when everyone (hopefully) lands on their marks. I can see it being a useful aid, especially if you don't have a 1st backing you up.

    Does the carbon fiber of the RS2 give it extra flex? When the gimbal is put on the table at 3:53 you see the camera rock back and forth while the stand seems solid on the table. I noticed this wobble as well in some footage I saw online (especially if you check corners, distant buildings etc). Thanks for this amazing video, I'm undecided between these 2 :)

    • @threefoldtv
      @threefoldtv  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It feels like it has a little but we haven't noticed it causing any big issues. Obviously the heavier the camera on it the more I'm guessing it would cause problems, well keep an eye out for it going forward. The Carbon fiber is nice because it's so light but the crane 3s is definitely more solid and rigid with the metal build

    What do you guys think about the Tilta Ecosystem for the RS2? The amount of functionality it expands the RS2 to have is really enticing. I am pickin a gimbal for my bmpcc with sigma 18-35 and it is a definately hard choice. On one hand crane 3s that can carry a tank, but is heavy itself as a tank and on the other hand dji rs2, its light and a promising lidar technology, but it can carry my camera only when i remove some parts like top handle and a monitor which means it will take more time to change from handheld to gimbal and back. But also resting my hands and back between takes will take more time if i pick crane 3s. Damn.

  • @jettlifeweddings
    @jettlifeweddings 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Subbed, great video guys. But I've found for me personally that upright gimbals are best for me because I often use the gimbal in Pan/Tilt Follow mode. The thing with gimbals with the handle in the back is you tend to tilt them forward to hold them comfortably. Which in PTF mode causes the camera to tilt down. Obviously you can hold a trigger or something to temporarily lock that, but I've found that a dual handle setup as opposed to the rear handle forces me to hold the gimbal in the best position. As of right now, I think the best two gimbals on the market (to me) are the DJI RS2 and the Moza Air 2s. I really wanted the Moza Air 2s but apparently, it's sold out everywhere, so I went with the RS2 Pro.

    I need a gimbal to also perform as a remote pan/tilt system as well. I've searched for wireless remote system add ons but don't feel like I have a definitive answer.
    I'll be using the gimbal with small to medium sized camcorders, a C100 and zoom lenses, or a Fuji X4 with zoom lenses.
    I cover motor sports and need something that can be mounted either on top my van, or possibly across the track that can be controlled from inside my van.
    For my traditional hand held shooting needs I believe either gimbal would be alright, but whichever could handle the long hours of rotation following racers around a track best will get my money. Do these gimbals pan 360 degrees with ability to do consecutive rotations?

The handle design is incredibly awkward and makes it practically impossible to pick up with two hands. It’s also very Chinese, I know they both are but the crane just had that cheap, old school Chinese gel to it. The buttons don’t feel like buttons either, they feel loose and plasticky and don’t make a satisfying click.

    Not sure if you guys used the new firmware for the RS2 yet but they improved the settings both on the gimbal and in the app as well as better motor controls. Don’t really need the app at all now for RS2. They also fixed the jitter wobble issues. RS2 is picky about balancing.

I have found a Ronin S for £300 and this gimbal is going for £600+ do you think it is that much better than a Ronin-S - All the major filmmakers swear by the Ronin-S - The only thing that I can see that I may need is the locking and the follow thing...

      @@m77ast I would hands down go with the Crane 3s over the original Ronin S! The locking axis, and slightly larger size makes balancing different cameras way easier and allows you to do so without using counterbalance weights. Its also more future proofed since the Crane 3s can handle larger payloads as well as larger cameras.

    You should look up the origins of the word "Chintzy"

    Balancing on Ronin is pretty stupid compare to the crane...

    They are not similar as you are concluding. Crane is planned well and the best one.

    The Zhiyun is just crap, at least the crane 3 version 1. The firmware is crazy to update, they don't update to other camera's and it weird overheat messages. But the worst is the contact with them, it feels they are just a small company with copycat gestures. DJI feels more refined as a company.

      I liked the long video for what it’s worth - I watch youtube vids on my computer or ipad 23 while in split screen doing something else.....lots of info here.
