    Awesome comparison. I’ve had the ronin s now for a week and a half. I’m a huge glidecam guy but had high hopes for the ronin s so I bought it. ITS FREAKING INCREDIBLE. I run the same setup as you except my main lens is a 24-70. I was filming a Doc in Alaska last week and was specifically shooting a high adventure salmon fishing trip where we flew out into the wilderness on a float plane. I wanted to get a super cinematic take off of the float plane so I had our fishing guide go full blast at 40mph high winds. 1DX mark ii at 70 mm smooth as butter even with all that wind. Blew my mind. Would of been an impossible shot on a glidecam and who has room for a regular ronin... I’m loving this thing.

    always love all of your tutorials, and reviews. Unfortunately my zhiyun crane v2 started on fire last week and it was perfectly balanced. Very scary, frightening and disappointing. Not to mention painful! Worked wonderfully up to that point. but that has me gun shy about Purchasing more zhiyun products. I wrote to them about what happened and not even a reply, Nada. Not very reassuring or responsible on their part. I have not heard of this happening to others but having it happen once is enough. I lived it as did asdic the frightened people on the dance floor. I only had it on for less than 10 minutes. As I said, it was perfectly balanced with a sony a6500 on it blue a light lens. I am a long time wedding videographer and the sony a7 line and the crane have been a huuuuge part of my shooting. I have a wedding coming up Dec 8th 2018, as a crane shooter, and I have got to find a good, compact, and powerful replacement. Manfrotto 501 plates on all my tripods and monopods. Has the weebal lived up to what has been printed about it in your eyes? Have you ever heard of the crane motor burning. Thanks so much for posting this. Great video. Any updates you may have would be so appreciated. I truly want to like Zhiyun again but having this happen once and no response makes me question their integrity

    After field test on Wedding, head to head for whole day... Crane2 is monster. Beast. Except fancy rubber and usefull joystick, we haven't found a single reason not to return it and buy another Crane2.
    Laggy, slow, undefined movements. Back motor placement doesn't make a difference at all since we are using gh5 and flipout screen is on the side anyway.
    Position of some buttons scream for mistaken push...
    Overall in real-life these specs are nothing much. Controlled conditions test is one thing but 12-13h of work on the field are completely something else.

    Sorry but this is heavily biased against the crane 2. And to be honest... I'm angered by your ignorance.
    You can alter the settings of the crane 2 to create the exact same shot but you just ignore that.
    Using two hands on the DJI instead of one on the crane. No crap is it going to be smoother!
    I can't believe that you trust the battery life spec, it's most likely going to run out after 8 hours. I just don't understand the logic of not wanting to have the removable batteries. It's vital no matter who you are.

      He gave the point to the Crane for better battery life....but you’re right, it probably runs out in 8 hours anyways.
      I for one, would much prefer the rechargeable battery over having to keep track of a bunch of small batteries and buy them constantly.
      He even said it’s a personal preference and that some prefer the Cranes battery method. Not sure how he was “ignorant”

    • @activatehalo7763

      @cyotheking 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      And why is that? Again, I'm sure MANY people would prefer devices having a rechargeable battery. I don't want to have to think about buying batteries constantly. Being able to charge a Ronin from a powerbank or wall outlet sounds very nice to me. Buying batteries all the time would blow.

    • @activatehalo7763

  • @AlessandroSpenga
    @AlessandroSpenga 6 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    I use the Crane 2 on every work I do with a smaller, lighter camera than the 1DXii and I can say it works pretty good, even with zoom lenses , which of course will change the balance of the gimbal. I did not experience some of the issues that Parker finds with an heavier camera. It does work very good if you don't need to get too extreme shots. So, if you use a lighter camera, maybe you're on the budget and maybe you shoot weddings or events (like I do) and you don't need to get crazy fast camera work, the Crane 2 is a very good choice and you will feel satisfied. Also, it now comes with the servo focus included.
    However I see the Ronin S having one BIG advantage: you can see the camera screen! In my opinion, the real down side of the Crane 2 is that you can't properly see the screen. It isn't a problem if you have a flip screen or use accessories to mount an external monitor (that's what I do when I have the time). You will get used to that but sometimes it's just hard to use.
    Awesome review Parker, really "real life" focused! You're always a great inspiration!

    There are settings on the Crane 2 app for different types of filming.. I don't think you took advantage of those settings.. this seemed to be an unfair comparison leaning heavily in favor of the Ronnin S. You seemed to pick specific competitions that you knew the Ronin S would win yet you didn't do the same for the Crane 2.. what about POV mode? The screen and the focus wheel both should have scored points for the Crane yet you didn't give those any points..

    Started to use Crane 2 recently and i'm quite happy with it. I saw a few videos from Parker and other TH-camrs. I though it is accident that they look like gym junkies (in good meaning). I tell you one thing, to use gimbal it is not only about gimbal but also about yourself. You MUST have very strong and steady hands. It looks like piece of cake when watching but actually to do it, it is very tiresome. You have to learn how to move steadily, carefully and see what is going on around you to not to hit something. You are basically gimbal.

I wasn't super impressed with it, but so far for me, they are comparable when I add in pros and cons. Although, that trigger was my best friend when I was shooting the other day. Things i'd like to see: some more diverse uses other than for action oriented videos like sensitivity of use with longer lenses 70mm+, rotating around things above and below you, mounting of monitors, mic's etc, changing focus with touch screen and time lapse. Also, this may be a stupid question but could you use the time lapse function on this to tilt whilst also using the arc and motion of the Rhino?

      He does love the glidecam. Lol. I have a crane 2, thinking of getting the flycam king, or saving up for the ronin s as backup. Was convinced from his glidecam vs flycam video to get the flycam but now my mouth is watering for the ronin s. Argg... I am betting that you would probably tell me since I have one electronic gimbal to get the glidecam or flycam, something that is one less electronic that can take a beating... ?? :(

    Did not expect such bias from you... I was waiting for you to say the Ronin S has better low light capability too. The thing is heavy, does not really use Manfrotto plates (well OK DJI Manfrotto!), has a stupid proprietary battery setup (ya, please find out the replacement cost!), most functions are not working right now, has a poor foam box, is packed like a puzzle inside it..... Really??

    6:11 Parker Walbeck, sorry man, but I can charge these three 18560 batteries with a 1500mA or 2000mA, and it will be REALLY much faster, comparing with a charging through a cable (500mA MAX), so it absolutely doesn't matter how long it takes to take out a batteries out. Not saying about just replace with already charged ones.

    Hard for me to buy a Ronin-s after having so many battery problems with my ronin-m. and I've also heard reports of the ronin-s not charging properly. Bought 2 replacement batteries for the ronin-m for 160$ and straight out of the package they didn't work, and if im not mistaken a new battery grip for the ronin-s is 100$.

    I've used the Ronin S for over 40 hours on two feature films. So, has basically already paid for itself. And I've had the same experience with it as you have. Also, although the Ronin S is advertised as handling 8 pounds of weight, here is a video of someone who used 15 pounds of camera on it: th-cam.com/video/Gfs-U9a1BQM/w-d-xo.html

    Hey, you swapped the products from left to right :) dont do that when you comparing some stuff. Keep the same side whole video :) It is little bit annoying, if you know what i mean. Till 5:41 zhiyun at the left, ronin at the right side and poof they are swapped :)
    edit:
    And at the end of the video - the titles/notes are swapped too - why the sign says dji at the right side and there is zhiyun beneath?
    But anyway - perfect comparsion!

  • @michaeloeser

    it really very much depends on what you need and want. To me the motor position of the Ronin S is not that much of an advantage because I either use the flip out screen of my cam or an added monitor. The display of the Crane 2 however IS a big advantage because it helps me a lot when switching modes. The biggest plus for the Crane 2 is the price. I bought mine refurbished for only 400 Euros which is almost half the price of a Ronin S.

  • @DanDiMaggio
    @DanDiMaggio 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I am curious now that both the Ronin and Crane 2 have been out for a while, do you prefer one of these now over a glidecam? I have been learning with a cheap knock off glidecam but I am ready to invest some money into a better quality tool. I am torn about weather to continue using a glidecam or step into a motorized gimbal. Thank you.

    Both gimbals are really great if you use them enough. I own the Zhiyun Crane 2, but I would switch to Ronin S for the sport mode and for the fact that I can have a greater view of the LCD.

      @CristiKerekes 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I know but that means I should change the settings using the app. On the Ronin it's a press of a button. But I will try what you said.

      I wouldn't switch. The built in battery situation on the Ronin S isn't good. Crane 2 has removable ones, works better when your on site for a shoot.

      I have the AX53 as well. Every video I see on TH-cam that uses the AX53 with the Ronin-S looks like garbage... Not sure if they don't work well together, or if it's user issues. Either way, it has me scared... It's because of the videos that I'm leaning towards the Zhiyun Crane 2... Did you make a choice yet?

    Hi Parker. I'm a photographer and recently started working as a filmmaker. I have a Sony a6300 with 18-135mm lens. There are special offers for buying Ronin S 490 Euro, ZHIYUN CRANE PLUS 430 euro, and Feiyu a1000 265 Euro. Although buying Feiyu a1000 save my budget to buy other things, the important thing is the quality of filming. Since my camera doesn't have a stabilizer like Sony a6500, do you think if I wanna buy Feiyu a1000, I'll miss a substantial quality?
    Which one do you recommend?

    I bought the DJI Ronin S with top hot shoe bracket and ext. GPS module around last Feburary due to the deep effect of this video,
    and the weight of the gimbal set is only only only... 2 Kg (=4.4 lb) except the camera.
    But, the quality and the stabilization ability of the Ronin s gimbal shows top priority in the market I thought.
    Thank you so much...

    Thank you for this video. Is it a sponsored test or it's your own gimbal? I have the DJI Ronin SC and lot of people like me have experienced some micro jitter (same for the RSC 2 and few other models). Do you have experienced micro jitter with the Ronin SC? PS. Micro jitter seems to be common with the Ronin.

    Overall good review, but I have to question the basics: 1- Why such a giant camera? Most of these vids are going to be viewed no larger than an iPad, so a 1" or APS-C Sony and a much smaller, lighter and cheaper gimbal would do as well and save $$$ and pounds; 2 - Are you going bald? Either way, lose the hat. You look ridiculous.

    Guys, I need your help here. I kept my zhiyum crane 2 and motion sensor remote control, for about 2 years in a closet, well packed, now that I open the boxes both displays got black. The gimbal turns on and work, but nothing I can do through the display for it is black. Don’t know if the motion remote turns on (can see the light inside blinking when I press the power button) but display is also black. Has anyone had the same issue.? I need your help.
