    The Zhiyun Crane 3s is a high-payload single handed (kinda) gimbal that's ideal for heavier camera setups in which you need a a lot of clearance for the camera to operate. If you intend on shooting with heavier cameras, rigged cameras or mirrorless type cameras with telephoto lenses then this gimbal is ideal. If you only shoot with small light cameras then the Zhiyun Crane 3s is probably overkill. Instead, get yourself a Weebil.
    The build quality is decent with the upper metal parts of the gimbal which has the motors being solid and rather slick looking. The lower 'control' parts such as the 45º handle and buttons aren't as good quality. They work fine and are functional but not as nice as what would appear on say a DJI product.
    Ergonomically, out oif the box, the Crane 3S is a bit of a handful and isn't the easiest gimbal to pick up off the ground. You can buy a handle that makes it easier. That said, it's one of the nicest gimbals to use in low / briefcase mode in which you could shoot all day when it's like that.
    You can get extra accessories for the gimbal like handles and follow focus but for now I just used the bare camera. I prefer to control the camera on it's own and I don't usually like using focus wheels on gimbals so I didn't do any advanced operation as of yet. As far as I know, you can control the camera fairly well with it. The app is handy to have but in my opinion it needs a bit of refining by Zhiyun, it's not overly concise.
    I originally received a Crane S3 from my Zhiyun dealer to review back in the early part of the summer and I had slight problems with it as it appeared to have shake. Because it was one of the first models off the assembly line, I assumed that it was either faulty or had an issue with firmware or something. But sadly, I had actually shot a lot with it without looking back at the footage (lesson learned!). Some of the shots are from this version of the gimbal. Then a few weeks later I was sent another 'working' unit and this fortunately was working much better. Though the footage is steady, I will say, it's still not giving me fully satisfyingly smooth results. I am a sucker for smoothness!
    I would recommend the Zhiyun Crane 3s for anyone looking to fly bigger heavier cameras but if you're a mirrorless camera shooter who uses smaller wider lenses, then a more compact, lighter gimbal would probably be handier.
    I hope you liked the video, it's a bit longer than planned but please like and share and feel free to drop in a comment which I may just reply to!

    Great video, I’m looking for a gimbal to do videography for a race car team, since I’ll be shooting a lot of shots with either a 70-200, or 200-600, I’m definitely looking at a more beefy gimbal like this. I think it will be a good fit, thanks for all the info and cool video mate

  • @FloridaLife
    @FloridaLife 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    The shake is a result of insufficient power to the motors, especially when in undersling position. Many users have found that all the shake goes completely away when you add the large power pack option to the gimbal (which gives the motors full power as well as you can also use to power acceao, such as an external monitor). Cheers!

    • @HuFilms
      @HuFilms  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's crazy because the power that's delivered to the motors from the batteries is a lot. Theres no shortage of power especially for a well balanced light camera. In fact most users say to have the gimbal set on lowest motor power. But I see your point, I may try this.

    Great review, thanks! I wonder if it will still pack into the carry case with the extension arm attached? It seems like not. I run a Pocket 6K with relatively heavy rigging (full cage, heavy Zeiss glass, full size focus motor, tentacle timecode box) and I wonder if I'd want to leave that extension installed pretty much all the time, or if I'd need it at all.

    • @HuFilms
      @HuFilms  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You won't know 'til you try it. Honestly, if using the arm I'd recommend just leaving it on. Switching it often might cause damage to the fine wires to the motor.

      @@johnallerston as a matter of fact, it's pretty great, once you get all the quirks worked out. The app is weak, but the hardware is incredibly strong. But it's also WAY too heavy, and much easier to run with the SmallRig ring added. i wouldnt say i shoot with a heavy set-up, but my lenses are pretty heavy. my body is pretty light way lighter than the lenses. the issues i have is balancing the camera. front end is always heavier. is the quick release plate pretty long? to push the camera to the back to balance out? alot of gimbals will hit the back motor but this gimbal looks really huge with a lot of clearance. Do u recommend?

    • @HuFilms

    Hello friend. In your video, the picture twitches and shakes at 05:29. Tell me what is the problem?

    • @HuFilms
      @HuFilms  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, this was a problem with the first gimbal I had. They replaced it. If you listen to what I say in the video it'll become clearer.

      friend, Thank you 🙏 for answering. I have not slept at night for 3 months now and am trying to resolve the issue. When you move forward backward straight, everything does not shake, the picture does not twitch? My picture is twitching. How did you balance the camera on the gimbal? Teach me friend. Please help 🤝🙏I heard somewhere that the problem is that 🎥 Blackmagic 6K's camera is very wide. How do you put the power of the motor? - in AUTO mode? It's not even a matter of weight, and the author says about this: th-cam.com/video/WOR1aGVXZu0/w-d-xo.html. EXTERNAL CAMERA SUPPLY HOW DID YOU DONE? I BOUGHT A PLATFORM WITH A BATTERY. WHERE DID YOU INSTALL THIS SITE SO THAT WAS LESS VIBRATION? THANKS IN ADVANCE 🙏 🤝🤝🤝WAIT EXPERTISE FOR AN ANSWER

      Hugh Sweeney I can’t listen, I don’t know English well. Did you have a Crane 2 - did everything twitch and shake with it?

      @@very9000 Hi, I appreciate you asking me these questions to seek knowledge but the best thing to do is join the Zhiyun FB group and put up a post there/. That way you'll have a lot more suggestions and tips than what I can go into here.

    seems unlikely that this gimbal should have those wobble issues, because the earlier zhiyun gimbals "1 and 2" don't have that problem, I have owned both of them, they have always been super smooth.

    • @HuFilms
      @HuFilms  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, you'd think. But this is a different beast. I watched a good few other reviews on it and saw some movement. I'm still convinced I can get it smoother but as for now, the camera is balanced perfectly. Thanks for the comment Matt.

      Hugh Sweeney could it be that the camera & lens you have on are too light for the 3s?

    • @HuFilms
      @HuFilms  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@EvenBiggerChungus its debatable. The 24-70 is a heavy lens and should be enough to engage the motors fully. It's not this I would say. Theres videos of Ursa mini's on this gimbal that show similar wobble to what I'm getting.

    One weak point you missed are the 4 screws on the baseplate that attach to the arm. They are tapped in aluminum and strip very easily. They should have made that part stainless steel or at the very least put stainless steel inserts into the aluminum. Imagine flying an expensive red camera and the screws strip out. Very stupid design

    those shakes are not because of the Gimbal but because of YOU haha... your camera is literally TOO light for that gimbal and the motor is doing more than your suggesting it to... make sure to properly calibrate and make sure you've added weights if its still shaking and then go from there

    • @HuFilms
      @HuFilms  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I understand what you're saying but the camera with heavy cine lens and adaptor isn't that light. Also when used with 70-200 lens. I've see similar movement in videos where guys used Ursa Mini's.

    I've always found the ergonomics and build quality of the Zhiyun gimbals to be really poor. Also though it's not important. They look really ugly.
