    I have just completed an update to my 3 year old CR 10S Pro V1. I added a BL Touch, Micro Swiss Direct Drive, Updated Screens and Firmware Hex code. I ordered my prats from Tiny Machines because they always help before, during and after sale. My good friend Andy lives in South Africa and we both have the same Machine, He did the update first and mentored me along my update. The parts In the tiny box cost me about $60. My machine was listed at $700 new but i found a returned unit for $350. I did upgrade the bed sensor and already had the Micro Swiss Hot End with a hardened Steel nozzle because i needed to print Hi Temp resistant Carbon Fiber impregned filaments. I had several leaks in the MS Hot End but learned my assembly errors and did finally get it to hold up perfectly. I had already ordered and recieved the BL Touch kit for Tiny Machines. It included the tiny BL Touch sensor a wide fat Cable and all the bits needed. But i waited to do the BL Touch and MS DD all at once. Finally the MS DD Arrived. As I opened the tiny box which was identical to the Hot End Box, I was very impresses to see a wonderfully machine aluminum adaptor for the DD installation. In my career I had worked in Aerospace, Medical and Automotive building some fairly high end systems. This part was on par with any of those high tech systems. Uniquely machines from a solid block of Aluminum not joints to crack or flex yet that part weighed so little. and stiff no flex at all, Just a lovely piece of work. I stated to pull my machine apart and over a few days was uploading the screens and Hex code. It was pretty exciting the probe turned red then blueish and came down to touch the bed. I wanted to extrude a little filament nothing would come out. I checked with Andy. The Extruder motor was not rotating. OH NO!. He calmed me down and we traced the wiring. In my excitement i confused the extra connector on the ribbon with the 4 wire E1 wire. And I found the unconnected end of the extension laying under the extra wire. Andy wrote, that's kinda important! OK OK I plugged it and the gears turned but did not extrude. My extruder release handle was too loose. Adjusted that and reset the extruder setup parameters. Finally Filament oozed out the nozzle. YEAH! Now we are ready to go. Andy Suggested the Benchi so we could compare Print Quality and he could asses my settings. Set up Benchi and started the print. I had to lower the nozzle about .9mm to get a flat bed in the 1st layer. Then had the call for Supper. I left the machine to print. I use OctoPrint and S3D slicer with quite good results. After Supper we had to do some domestic tasks so when I got back to check out the machine the print was done. I popped it off and came upstairs to inspect the result. I had some nerds in a few places that Andy feels was too high Nozzle 220C should be 215 or less. We were not worried. The big news, aside from the finish which was flawless, were the details of the circles, squares and edges which as near perfect as i have ever seen. My circles for the 1st time were round, not oblong. the details at .2mm layer height was wonderful. The fan adapter that I printed before tear down worked fine and all the reused parts did the job. I was thrilled and love the look and feel. The machine is reborn! If feels solid and reliable. The Extruder is just a work of art, rugged and solid and a wonderfully engineered parts. THANK YOU Micro Swiss, THANK YOU, the Hot End and now this Direct Drive Extruder is wonderful. They work! They Look Great! They actually improve the printer quality significantly. I am thrilled and would recommend these upgrade to anyone that needs to print with precision. The cost was not crazy and Tiny Machines supports you with, bits, wire, code and online help. Not to forget the Firmware updates which help tie this upgrade all together. Now I can continue to produce Model Train parts for my 1950 American Flyer S Gauge engines "Next Generation S" from Frankentrain Laboratories. I have some suggestions I will send in a separate message to Micro Swiss Engineering. Dennis in Virginia

    This is a great kit except they moved the slots for the x-axis timing belt. Compared the extruder carriage on my Standard CR-10, the slots are about 3mm closer together. This means the belt that comes with the CR-10 doesn't;t work. nor do replacement belts. Had to buy my own belt and clips and create a longer belt. Works great now.
    Like I said, it's a great piece of kit but that's a really weird decision on their part to change the dimensions!!

    • @utwerps
      @utwerps 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I've found this to be teh case on my CR-10s also, I've contacted support and they are sending me a new longer belt but will have to wait and see, my printer is out of service till I get this sorted so time wasted. I agree, why change the dimensions????

    Won't work on CR10sPRO, max, or 20 because of the filament sensor. There's a direct drive print for cr10spro in thingyverse that's addresses for it. I would've bought this but since there is no option. For my filament sensor or my bltouch I won't.

  • @utwerps
    @utwerps 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Just trying to fit one of these on a CR-10s and it does not work with the original X drive belt that traverses the hotend side to side across the bed. Support are hopefully sending me a new belt to sort this but it's taken printer out of service for a few days so not overly impressed so far. Others have had the same problem so it's nothing new, Starganderfish commented 6 months ago about this problem but it seems it still exists. Wish I had known sooner I would have gone a different route.

    Hey Micro Swiss,
    1) The kit sits VERY high on the X-axis gantry. I'm sure Z volume is lost because of how the wires and PTFE tube are routed. Wouldn't be better to route the cable and PTFE tube in front of the gantry instead?
    2) Can we use a pancake stepper motor so save weight or you recommend using the original Creality one?
    3) Why not machining holes for a HIWIN (and clone) linear rail cartridge? Linear rails setup are becoming more and more popular.

    • @StrokeBoy

      I agree except about "I'm sure Z volume is lost." I had a linear X. I had to uninstall the Rails and put the wheels back on. I installed this thinking it would interfere with Z, I thought I would lose some. I was pleasant surprised, My Tornado has full Z Height.
      I forgot to mention I have a pancake extruder and linear rails on Z. I also, didn't have the bowden from the side, I Have Filament coming from top down So, I just ran the bowden straight down to the assembly.
      I would like to see if they can machine for people that have linear X rails.
      It is possible to machine yourself, but that's a project and a half.

      Just installed. no Z height lost on my CR-10 the tube and cable just move out of the way. maybe if you go to the top of the z and all the way to the right it could cause an issue but I haven't seen it yet.

    I just received my micro Swiss direct drive and hotend system, but after reading many many reviews I'm now slightly hesitant too install, as I'm very new to the Hobby and I've heard many stories about having problems getting the nozzle centered in the middle of the bed and also about the stainless steel nozzle breaking off in the hot end and also having clogging issues...
    Is there anywhere where I can find some solutions to these problems? I purchased this to be able to print different filaments such as TPU and wood PLA, etc. The other reason I'm hesitant to install, besides the issues I mentioned above, is that my stock E3P has printed exceptionally well out of the box and I don't want to foul it up... I just need the option of printing other filaments.
    Thanks folks and I'm appreciative of any help towards addressing my questions above.
    Best! ✌🏼
