Nice upgrade! Can't wait to see your prints fly. 😁

Very cool upgrade! I definitely like how it brings the feed closer to the hot-end!
Regards the bumps, I have no where near your experience, since I just set up my printer and only have 3 prints under my belt, but I did notice when I printed two Benchys that the bumps on the hull were nearly identical on both. What ever is causing it is repeatable, so it can't be the filament as I was suspecting at first.
Now that I've seen you video, I'm suspicious of my feed. If nothing else, it gives me a starting point for investigation!
By the way, I like how you covered setting the E-Steps at 14:57.
By the way, I like how you covered setting the E-Steps at 15:24.
😂. Sorry, I couldn't resist. I promise to offer my soft underbelly for you to poke with a stick when you find a glitch in one of my videos (cuz I know it will happen; especially now that I just gave myself karma 😂).
    Great video Dean!

Hey great to see you back in the workshop :) I just got a 3D printer (Creality Ender 3 Max) and I'm very pleased with it. I choked a bit when you said the kit was $100 but seeing the quality of the parts it looks like it was totally worth it. Hope to see more vids in future!

Nice video. Great instructions. That thumb injury looked painful. Mahalo for sharing! 🙂🐒

Slammed my thumb in the car door. Pain, blood, cursing. All healed except the nail.

The retraction is more immediate with direct drive than with a Bowden tube, so in the slicer the retraction setting value should be much smaller than what you had before. That may make your seam much less visible.

Nice video, as always! Is it possible you put the silicone sock inverted near the 11th minute? Keep on hacking!

Where did you buy the thermistor? I'm about to add this onto my printer and might need a new one... Lol also did you update your firmware?

remove the long bowden tube insert a small one and hang the filament above the printer youl be having much eassier extrusions, ive been running like that on my cr10s for a year now.

You might want to look at doing a PID tuning on the hotend since you changed it out. It should help keep the hotend temps stable. Always good practice when you do anything with the hotend. Also, after grabbing a backup of the firmware, you might want to look at upgrading to Marlin 2.0. A lot of the older creality units that shipped with 1.1 also had thermal runaway disabled. Looks good otherwise. Happy printing!

Planning on installing Marlin 2.0 and adding BLTouch.

The lumpy bumpies might be from moisture in the filament. When the water absorbed by the filament boils it creates a gas pocket before come out of the nozzle and causes the bumps.

Maybe, but it's happed with several different colors of ABS. ABS doesn't usually have issues with moisture. I keep it stored in a warm dry place in my work shop.

Any issues with PTFE tube touching hot end at high Temps? Offgassing risk?

With my direct drive (RoboR1+ (have3)) I use .5 retraction. With my bowden tube (Anycubic) I use 3 retraction.

Try better filament...Microcenter has good filament if you have one near.

I've had good results with Hatchbox ABS. I hardly ever use PLA. The blobs showed up even with a fresh roll of ABS. So far my prints are pretty blob free.

nice! I could be completely wrong, but I think the bumps might be the seams, there is a video that talks about it, th-cam.com/video/mE521Q4H6aY/w-d-xo.html
