Holy shit, apparently when I played Black Flag I actually killed Roberts in a much more historically accurate way than the game intended. I never even boarded his ship, and was able to kill him with a shot from one of the little swivel guns while my crew was preparing to board.
cool.
Good game
Sick bruh
Wow Bartholomew Roberts captured 473 ships in his 3 year pirate career. Thats incredible. The several times larger than the Spanish Aramada. Even if most of them were schooner or gunboats thats still mighty impressive. I haven't even sunk that many ships in ACIV a video game. Never know he could have been the sage haha no.
Its moments like this that I am proud to say that my grandfathers cousin is a direct relation to John "Bartholomew" Roberts, God I love being Welsh :D
Admiral Wolf not quite I don't think its hereditary
Incest is T I G H T
Good stuff,
However the Welsh pirate that captured Roberts and made him a pirate, was Howell Davies. not Milford Haven (that's the town he's from)
The most successful pirate in history was actually a human reincarnation of Aita/Hades/Pluto. Who would have thought? But with his epic death (caught in a storm and crossfire between British and Spanish ships, while battling Edward and Anne Bonny) the Golden Age of Piracy went out with a bang!
Wait what?
hades?
@@cameronbaker97 Yes. Aita is the Etruscan god of the Underworld.
Wasn't the most successful pirate in history a Chinese woman?
He said Roberts original name was John Roberts that's funny because Roberts "rebirth" was John the tech guy who had you hack manny computers
It true
It was john is roberts
Before john there is micah
Howell Davis was the captain who recruited Bartholomew Roberts. Davis was from the Welsh port town of Milford Haven.
Is it just me, or are a lot of pirate ships named "The Ranger"?
i've watched a lot of these vids today. I remember as a kid having to do a school play on Bartholomew Roberts or Barti Ddu as he's known in welsh. Probably the best school play i did as a kid, not every day you get to be a pirate
Same
I've been binging this series for the past hour (it's 3am lol). Great stuff. I love history and I too look at AC characters and real lives. Keep it up, bro
I know I've answered some of your comments before, I just wanted to thank you sincerely for this comment. It's these kinds of awesome posts that really motivate me to make more content. I was a little worried initially that no one else would really care about this, but as I can see the audience growing for these videos I plan to continue making them for quite some time. Thanks again for the support!

Thank you. I love your series and I watched most of them!
You hooked me! I've been watching this show now for a couple hours. As a fellow historian, let me tell you your Doing Great!! And I think I might want to get AC now.
Thank you so much for commenting! You guys have no idea how much it means to me to read these types of messages. I really appreciate your support and, as I've said in my videos, if you're into the historical backdrop for video games, I must say that Assassin's Creed does a spectacular job with their games. It's probably my favorite video game series when it comes to stories/campaigns. Anyways, thank you again for watching!

Hi Robius, I am a big fan for AC and pirates so when this game came out it was a dream come true. Thanks a lot for the insightful research it has added to the whole experience. My fav videos were Rogers, Blackbeard and Woodes Rogers. Thanks again. JB
Awesome, this was one of the best ones.
I'm so glad to see that you think I'm improving. Thank you for your feedback and continued support in the series!

Bartholomew Roberts the shadow archetype of Edward: both men are Welsh, became captains by chance and by accident, are pursued by the Templars and Assassins respectively for their respective gifts(Roberts for being a Sage and Edward for his Eagle Vision), dress similarly in their first introductions and wear clothes of dead men. While Roberts is a selfish, cruel and ruthless man, who would betray and step on everything and everyone to get what he wants, along with wanting a merry life but a short one, Edward, for all his faults, he is a good man who cares about his friends and family, and wants a merry life but long one.
So Roberts is what Edward could have become if he didn't have his friends and family at his side.
Want to say I love these vids of yours :) .
Many thanks for all the support. It's because of our great viewers that I am thrilled to keep making videos for this series.

I'm from pembrokeshire in Wales so I know about this guy
Bartholomew was one of the greatest pirates that ever lived
Great shit dude. Echiro oda creator of one piece actually based Gold D Roger off of Bartholomew Roberts. They look exactly the same and Gold D roger is the king of the pirates while Bartholomew Roberts is the greatest pirate to actually roam the seas. Idk why Blackbeard gets more attention than Roberts. Yea he was ruthless but he only lasted 2 years and didn't accomplish that much compared to Roberts
Blackbeard had flare. There's Roberts who had the resume, but Blackbeard had the flair
Dude its a great job you do, keep on! Woodes Rogers is a great idea
Thank you so much man, I'm thrilled that you all enjoy it so much. As for Rogers, I'd suggest you tune in tomorrow around 3pm EST.

Seriously man you rock!
"In an honest Service, there is thin Commons, low Wages, and hard Labour; in this, Plenty and Satiety, Pleasure and Ease, Liberty and Power; and who would not balance Creditor on this Side, when all the Hazard that is run for it, at worst, is only a sower Look or two at choaking. No, a merry Life and a short one shall be my Motto" -Bartholomew Roberts
I've heard that Roberts was an avid tea drinker, which one can see a couple of times during the game. I'm surprised I didn't hear it on the review (although I may have missed it, since I'm not a native speaker).
Wow this guy is amazing, I didn't even know he was real, great series!
Almost every character in the AC series is real except Edward and some other that I do not know.
Edward didn't kill vane because you speak to him in the Kingston fort
Love it
Thanks you for your support.

One of my favorite series on YT. Could you do some of the older games?
Thank you so much for the feedback man, I really appreciate it. If you have any ideas for characters from previous games you'd like me to cover, please leave them in a comment. I'll be doing a few more showcases for the latest title, but will then start making videos for the previous games as well.

Do Leonardo da Vinci. That would be a really cool comparison
TheXxzealotxX Oh god, that would be amazing. Da Vinci had such an expansive and eventful lifetime that it would be hard to put it all into one video, but I think that I just might try.
-Robius5991
Honestly AC3 would be boring for americans because we learned all about the founding fathers in history. AC2 or AC1 would be the best games to go with.
do one on robert de sable. or any of the nine targets in the first game
Welsh and proud 🏴
I'd like a link to the pirate code of Roberts' you talked about, looks interesting!
mentalfloss.com/article/58900/11-rules-actual-pirate-code
thanks
dude Bart's friend was from Milford Haven, not called that. His name was actually Howell Davis
Dude I am some what related to Howell, pirating runs in the family
he was also known as black bart what u forgot but that was interesting like all your other videos
I am a renaissance playtron and have finally decided to take on the role of pirate. I always base my costume and actions on a real historical figure to allow me to keep character more easily, last time I was giovanni medichi. So what is your opinion on this , I am a tall Caucasian dark haired man in my 20's, I am trying to decide between Bartholomew Roberts and Laurens De Graff? I like Bartholomew for being a noble pirate so to speak, but De Graaf was a stubborn rascal, kind of a real life Jack Sparrow lol, which I also like
this makes me want to go out and get the game haha
Phil, I'm so glad you liked it that much. It's tough building new series on youtube and the support that you're all showing is really helping me out. Thank you so much.
-Robius5991
Milford haven is a place in Wales, not the name of the captain.
Ha, its smart that you made it 7 minutes and 22 seconds long, its funny that if you were watching this for the first time, you will notice the duration and it will all equal to the year Bartholomew Roberts died.
Bartholomew Roberts rips kenway for being welsh and then claims he's welsh himself wtf.
he reminds me of Ringo..
"as you wish" like if you know that reference
Wasn't John from IT Bartholomew in the modern day aspect? And he was killed by some security guard.
Yes, and as "The Sage'' it was explained that the race that built the Observatory had a leader and she made it possible for her husband to be reborn over and over again throughout time. This is all explained if u gather all the messages in bottles.
They are all the same person, each with the same memories, and same appearance and what I assume same personality. The same memories thing was confirmed, Appearance and personality wasn't, its just that John has an appearance directly similar to Bartholomew and he speaks and acts just like him.
And you should do a vid on Woodes Rogers or a combo of all the other Templars (Torres, du Casse, chamberlain, Cockram and Burgess). Those guys were real but not a whole lot is known about them (making them perfect bait for the AC writers)
Tune in next week. I think you will be pleased.
-Robius5991
OnlineKnights just to avoid another Vane scenario, Edward doesn't kill Rogers. They say he survived his injuries and returned to England (like real life). This one was more obvious than Vane, but just thought it should be mentioned!
tropicAces Yeah, I am aware. Since that was part of the main story I totally caught that bit of information. However, I want you all to know that I've learned from that mistake with Vane and will be sure to extend my fact-checking beyond the historical information to also include fact-checking the game. Thank you again for your concern though.

I've often wondered, as a Welshman with the surname 'Roberts'; if I have some sort of family link to this guy.
Wow! How is this Bartholomew Roberts not more of an availability heuristic than Blackbeard?
No better pirate than Black Bart
Just out of curiosity, what kind of an accent is that? I know he is Welsh but I thought Welsh's accents are like Edward's..
There are many, many, many different Welsh accents. North Welsh accent, Valleys accent, North Cardiff accent, Swansea accent, Llanelli accent, west Wales accent etc.
The VA gave him a very "stock" Welsh accent, it doesn't sound like anywhere in particular (like Kenway's more Swansea accent), a mix of a West Wales and stereotypical Valleys accent.
There are lots of different accents for example, a Cardiff accent sounds more English and differs greatly from a North Walian accent, the West Wales accent is also very strong, just like Roberts' but it sounds a bit more stereotypical.
Rosstoration
Which is a shame, considering they went to such lengths to cast a Welsh English voice-actor for Kenway. I suppose, in their defense, there aren't that many Welsh voice actors, so a stereotyped stock Welshman is often used. (Hopefully this changes soon)
Even when a developer gets their hands on a Welsh English speaker, they ask them to be more 'comically' Welsh. For example, see Drippy (voiced by Steffan Rhodri) from Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch. It's a stereotype of the dialect, that Welshman are amusing (as a comedian or a clown).
Either way - it's a positive notion that Welsh English is becoming well known around the world, thanks to the videogame industry and television industry (Torchwood etc., Hinterland)
Ten Miles It's Garw valley accent. my voice and accent is almost identical to his :)
Rosstoration It's garw valley, I sound exactly like him
Will you be continuing this with future assassin's creeds and/or revisiting past assassin's creed games?
Indeed I will. I just thought it would be fun to start with the latest title, but I hope to cover as much of the Assassin's Creed universe as possible.
-Robius5991
OnlineKnights looking forward to future episodes. I love the effort ubisoft go through for their games
I didn't know that his name is Robert's I guess is kevin
I wonder Bartholomew Roberts and Blackbeard ever met.
I liked your video, I just had an issue with your wording. At about 4:25 you said he moved his operation to Newfoundland, "into what is now considered Canada" It is now Canada, it's not considered. You could say "into Newfoundland which would become Canada" I only mention this because I'm Canadian and during your Blackbeard post you never went on about "which would be considered North Carolina" During Assassin's Creed 4 it was still the 13 Colonies. There was no USA. Seems a little unfair in your delivery I suppose is my point.
does it matter? its just his wording.
I feel bad for this guy hope his machinama contract ends soon
man, the narrator sounds handsome.
555th, innit
did anyone else immediately think "dread pirate roberts" from princess bride? anyone?
This is so copyright, it's machinima
I hated this guy lol
you ruined the whole thing by talking mate
You must be new to his videos
