- For the eleventh episode of “Assassin’s Creed: Real History” we begin our journey through the franchise's historical periods by discussing the Third Crusade, a Christian military campaign that served as the setpiece for the first AC game.

Topic Choice
Despite having already covered this topic in the past, I decided to re-explore the Third Crusade, this time going more in-depth on the events that led up to its beginning. In addition, this will serve as the first in my sub-series that will explore the history behind the time periods covered in each Assassin's Creed game.

storywise and settingwise, AC1 is still my favorite
Agreed, the gameplay is dated now but the atmosphere, dialogue and soundtrack make it the best game in the series.
Saladin actually had a run in with the assassins while he was sleeping he got away with a flesh wound but he soon encountered them again
These were aspects of history I was never the best knowledge on, so I thank you for covering them.
I love the whole religious backdrop.. It adds another level of depth to the game.. The blend in plain sight feature wouldn't work (Not as well at least..) in any other period.. It all added up to this fanatical faction aka the Assassins of Masyaf being stuck in the middle of two other fanatical factions, all of them wholeheartedly believing in their cause and beliefs.. It also was just a thinking man's game.. With all the philosophies and views of the world, along with putting you in the shoes of a man living in that period.. I loved the game, and to me still has the best "Assassiny" feel to it, with the whole "Killer Monk" thing going on, and actually having to hunt and kill targets, and a big part of it to me, is that you are fully devoted.. You dont decide to kill these men.. Your leader does.. And that to me makes all the difference, ive always thought a Assassin council/ leader is an essential thing to making a classic Assassins Creed game.

You know the irony of the first AC game is that The Assassin's opposed Saladin so they would have been ally's with the crusaders and thus the Templars
Hogan Maestri that doesnt make sense, the hashashin were shias who smoked hashish, they hated everyone not like them.
If you think about it, the assassins were allied as the grandmaster of the Templars was also head of the assassins

Are you planning to do more characters in AC Syndicate? If so I suggest doing some scientists like David Brewster, John Elliotson, Richard Owen and of course Charles Darwin.
There's just something about that time period thats captivating me. Maybe it's the religious zealotry or something about the old ways of religion and belief (both christianity and islam) like people standing for something greater than themselves. AC1 is the one AC I still come back to. Feels like home. I'm curious about Mirage

Any kind of religion has always been poison to the minds of society. Of course they were not the good guys, and I don't even know if there was such a thing in that whole fight. So yeah, it's... really disapointing to hear the use of that word in that way.

Saladin never lost. Richard was treated badly for not conquering Holy city. Do some research.
The Crusades were only wars that had a good cause.
thomas brady it was a purge of undesirables. The land rightfully belongs to us by divine right and by birth right. Once the Israelis and surrounding belligerents exhaust each other hopefully we will be wise enough to move in and reclaim the land for ourselves, securing religious and moral authority once again, as is our rightful position.
da best o' da best if that is what you actually believe I really feel as though you should educate yourself. the Crusades were of holy and divine intention. that land is sacred to us and be under eurochristian jurisdiction. it was our Messiah who graced that land, one whom they reject and who they murdered. it should be considered reparations and morally just that the land is returned to us.
thomas brady I just think that hiccups a long the way to utopia are necessary. We all like to entertain the idea of peaceful coexistence, the reality is it cannot be done and will never be. Too much clashing principles and values, and I for one believe that those of the West where everyone is equal and has an opportunity to make something of themselves has the moral high ground over stoning someone's wife to death because they didn't yell loud enough to be helped when raped, so clearly they enjoyed it.
