    This happened to me senior year of high school football. My kidney wasn’t torn or lacerated but I did get internal bleeding, had blood in my urine, and had to spend two nights at the hospital. I still have pain around my left kidney whenever I laugh really hard.

    For those that’ve never played tackle football, when you lay a hard hit on someone, YOU feel a lot of pain too. But you just gotta pop back up and celebrate as if you’re the “hammer” and the ball carrier was the “nail”… But it’s really a 2-car collision, and the other guy sometimes doesn’t get to brace for impact

      No. Not only not a normal tackle, but not a tackle at all. This is a hit. A tackle is what they taught kids 50 years ago; wrapping arms around a player with the head away. These hits became popular later and need to go away permanently

      @@slpguy6026 have you seen football 50 years ago? From footage we see today either they weren’t taught to keep their “head up” when tackling or not a single player listened to their coach telling them that, id lean towards the fact they weren’t teaching heads up tackling 50 years ago, Athough I do agree players need to wrap up more.

      This is just a guess, but it may be because they're going after a receiver who is in the process of making a catch. Since the ball is not in a very secure place in the receiver's hands, they're both attempting a hit as opposed to a wrap in an effort to knock the ball loose from the impact

    • @Fry10ck
      @Fry10ck ปีที่แล้ว +7

      They are hoping to knock the ball out to make it an incomplete pass, if they tackle then the receiver will probably still make the catch.

      A former football player myself. I wouldn't use my arms if I expect the off balance ball carrier to fall from my hard blow.
      Although tackling with arms is a safer option because the ball carrier isn't guaranteed to fall from my hit, we considered it a high risk high reward because he can drop the pass, fumble, or our hard hit can rattle him.

      don’t listen to these goofs, tucking your arms and risking missing a tackle doesn’t make the hit any harder. i played rugby and it’s required you wrap up your mark and it didn’t make it any more fun to get hit. football has just become a bunch of goons flying and diving off their feet and then trying to justify it

    It looks like the Packers wide receiver's pelvic bone or maybe the G.T. (greater trochanter) part of his femur could have caused the injury, rather than the defender's own rib. Since the receiver's hip was flexed the G.T. would be poking out more and if thats the part that hit the kidney it would be enough to cause a tear.
    Just my own observation as a PTA 🤓🤷🏽‍♂️

  • @shelbysmama4974
    @shelbysmama4974 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Dr. Brian, is there reason why Wagner Johnson's momentum ended up causing more damage to his own body than the Packer's player who, despite his downward momentum, was essentially stationary? I always assumed it's the player/object with the least momentum that suffers the greatest traumatic force. Since it looks like he braced for Johnson's hit, could that be what saved him from a nasty shot to the liver?

    • @Ezel_00
      @Ezel_00 ปีที่แล้ว

      Packer's guy probably had the force dissipate into bouncing off of Johnson while Johnson absorbed the same amount of force into his left side while pushing off of solid ground.

    Poor guy was having a career year, leading the league in picks...and the the rookie (Blankenship) that came in to replace him grabbed a pick that he most likely would have been in position for. There's a chance if CGJ was still playing he'd have 7 picks already.

    What happens if someone has to pee often could it be kidney or a bladder problem?

    It looks cool but I wish people would get away from these Hitstick style tackles. A good wrap up and follow through would work.

    Is that what happened? I’m a packers fan and was watching the game and was wondering what happened to him, didn’t realize it was something like this. I thought he had a stinger or something

    Whoa that's crazy so the guy that delivered the hit was the one that got injured

    I've dealt with broken bones, sprains, infections, and many other things, but I'll tell you... there's nothing more scary than waking up, going to the bathroom and urinating a solid stream of blood.

    Some of these defenders are out here trying to inflict damage to the guy with the ball but ultimately end up hurting themselves
