    I touched on this in my video earlier this week calling out this situation.
    th-cam.com/video/a8VZeuPXvRY/w-d-xo.html
    This should lead to a protocol change. The current protocol requires that if a player stumbles after a head impact, the medical staff must determine if it’s orthopedic (spine/joints/etc) related or neurologic. If they feel it’s orthopedic, then the player can pass the protocol if they test ok otherwise.
    In this case the big question is how in the world they decided his stumbling on Sunday was from his back (when we saw the head impact and shaking).
    The current wording in that exception leaves too much wiggle room for situations like this and now should absolutely be updated

      The dolphins found a loophole, and tua paid the price for it. If this doesn’t lead to a protocol change, I’m giving up the sport in totality, and I seriously hope everyone involved is held accountable to the highest degree. My one question to you Brian, is do you think Tua will ever play football again, as far as I know, Tom Savage didn’t.

    Being someone who had this happen to them their senior year of high school, I think the outrage is completely warranted. When it happened to me, everyone thought I was going to die, and I probably should have. One of my assistant coaches was also an anesthesiologist, repeatedly told me how extremely lucky I was to be alive. Also the day after i was knocked out, I passed my concussion protocol with flying colors. My Head CT and MRI was also negative. Needless to say even though I passed, I had to take a lot of time off and I really wasn't ever the same since. I had short term memory loss for a few weeks and have struggled with long term memory ever since. Depression, anxiety, trouble concentrating, sleep issues, and even PTSD plagued me for years after it happened. Not to mention, I became very isolated, my high school friends never looked at me the same and some even would get mad with me for making such a "stupid decision"(As I tried to rush myself back from a previous concussion). Many slowly started distancing themselves if not completely cutting me off. Three years after the event and I am doing well, but still struggle to do very simple things. I hope if there was any type of misconduct that it gets handled well for Tua, he had a million times more potential than me and I would hate to see someone that talented tread the path that I did.

      Gave myself a massive concussion on my snowmachine. Did a climb and couldnt pull the hill. Crushed my head and messed up my neck, shoulder, left trap and sternum. Never been the same since. 2 years have passed and I need a rib removed because of the compression I get in my brachial plexus.

What that could be, who knows, but your time on this planet didn't end that day because you still have many lives to impact. Stay Strong.

    • @BSDShoes
      @BSDShoes ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I had two concussions, second concussion I lost consciousness briefly then had no memory for about a day (amnesia) as I was asking who people were and were I was, I don't remember anything in that timeframe then I recovered. First concussion wasn't as serious and I was just able to get up and walk it off. This was long before concussions was widely known and studied upon, back then coaches would say "it's just a headache, you'll be fine now go back in there". I'm almost 50 and I still deal with headaches and sometimes memory issues such as mixing up days, ever gone to work on a Saturday?

    • @masculine-scholar
      @masculine-scholar ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@BSDShoes I can’t even imagine where I would be if I grew up in an era of less concussion awareness. Just another thing I can be grateful for. I had one time where I’m still not sure if I misremembered my work schedule or if my general manager at the time(who was very bad at his job) just changed the schedule. I did however have a similar situation where after I woke up I went in and out of consciousness and even spoke and had conversations with people that I have no recollection of. Once I became aware of what was happening I still had to relearn many things. As you mentioned I had to relearn who some people were, even what sport I played. I had very little recollection of memories prior to the event and when I watched the film of my accident happening, it almost felt as if I was watching this thing happen to someone else.

      It is so easy to say last week because that is how an NFL week works but he took that hit just 4 days ago which makes it worse. They obviously made a mistake on Sunday but compounded it by not correcting it within the next 4 days.

    • @sarca571ca
      @sarca571ca ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Well they said he had a aggravated back injury. Maybe something related to the Suprascapular nerve. If you're hit across that nerve you can temporarily lose function of your limbs and lose your vision momentarily(probably why he was shaking his head last week after he got up). If you've seen videos of martial artist "knocking people out" by striking the neck this is what's happening. Obviously he could have also gotten a concussion but the nerve damage might make that harder to determine, I'd "assume" they had checks to clear that and he most likely passed those checks. I'll note that I'm no doctor, just know what it looks like when some takes a hit to the nerve as I've trained to attack this nerve to safely detain people.

    I've survived both a traumatic brain injury and brain cancer. I saw the "back" injury last week and knew exactly what happened. I fell off of my skateboard in 2006 and my head did the same thing. I got up and tried to walk it off but my body wasn't having it. The doctors saved my life by recognizing the severity of the injury and had me in surgery within an hour. Granted mine was a bit more severe but the fact that the nfl did not recognize the painfully obvious brain trauma in that first tackle is enraging. I really hope Tua is alright. God is good.

The NFHS has done a lot in educating coaches and officials in what to look for a potential concussion, but I feel they could always do more. I am not sure if you have put out a video aimed at officials but if not, that might be a good idea, especially for the high contact sports like football and hockey for example. Sure, in a vacuum, I could see making excuses for the coach saying it wasn't anything more serious than a concussion, but when everyone on earth with even a shred of knowledge about concussions sees the Dolphins risk Tua like that and have him seriously injured, it's not unreasonable to assume the coach doesn't take concussions seriously

    Doc, I rocked my head at an ice rink and my arms did the same thing. It took over a month to get fully back to normal. At least I felt normal but I don’t think I was fully normal. The Doc’s allowing him to play I think is insane. After what happened the week before when he couldn’t really get up without falling. I hope this kid recovers but I wouldn’t allow him to play for at least a month. I’m 42 so I don’t heal like he does but he still needs some time to recover before playing again.
