  • A punch or kick to the liver can be a knockout blow in MMA, UFC, or boxing. Often people describe it feeling like your legs are paralyzed and it can cause you to pass out. In this video I'm going to teach you what is going on in the body and why this can happen.

As some have mentioned you don't necessarily have to pass out from this. Passing out is if your blood pressure gets low enough to trigger it. But the effect of lightheaded, woozy, legs giving out, etc, is all from this effect with the autonomic system. Whether or not you actually completely go unconscious is just the worst case of how affected your BP and heart rate are.

Spencer Abstract I love Eddie Bravo, but I almost feel like it should be banned. "Attacking" the spine is illegal due to risk of paralysis and that's usually interpreted as no strikes to the spine, but if you don't tap in a twister paralysis is a very real possibility. Unlike other submissions where you either go unconscious or injure a limb.
People will probably say "that's why you better tap", but that's just ignorant.
