    “Dusty. I have been living in your shadow for way too long ,now, you no good dirty dawg. I am fed up following you around like a puppy dawg. I’m gonna get you Big Dust.. and when I get you, you’ll know after all the years I watched your back and all you wanted to do was steal my spotlight, your gonna know that Magnum T.A. is a stooge for no one. “ There is your heel turn.

    If you want a logical heel turn, it's really easy. Give Magnum a run with the NWA title and then have him drop it back to Ric Flair. Then in 1988 Sting catches fire, culminating with him getting a title shot at 88 Clash. After the 45 minute draw, Sting gets attacked by the Horsemen so he enlists Dusty and Magnum to watch his back in a rematch with Flair on Saturday Night or the second Clash. Thats when Magnum blasts Dusty and Sting and helps Flair retain. Then Magnum reveals hes jealous of Sting getting the matches he thinks he deserves. Then you have Magnum vs Dusty and then Luger for a while while they groom Sting chasing Flair and have the Steamboat trilogy in tbe process. After the trilogy is over, Sting gets the belt and FINALLY Magnum gets his title shot.

      That was the plan for Magnum to regain the title from Nikita at Starrcade '86 and drop the title in '87 to BuddyLandell, but he was on his drug binge, which took him out the best the could muster up was Jimmy Garvin. Flair was supposed to drop the title at some point during the Great American Bash. Flair needed the rest.

      @southerncajuncharm Austin got insane heat as a heel. Watch the Canadian Stampede PPV, the man was almost about to start a riot. He was even able to get good heat during his 2001 run, even with the crowd still loving him.

    • @GorditoCrunch343
      @GorditoCrunch343 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @southerncajuncharm I agree with him that the heel run in 2001 was a business mistake, but he was getting good heat during it regardless. Plenty of boos and "Austin sucks" chants after the Invasion PPV and his feud with Benoit & Jericho before that.
      Canadian Stampede heat was mainly due to his feud with the Hart Foundation, but he played the heel role well during that entire angle so it worked with the crowd. Same thing during the street fight with Bret, he was 100% heel during that entire segment. Survivor Series was a different situation because he came back from a devastating neck injury which made him the sympathetic babyface so he was gonna get cheered anyways.

      @southerncajuncharm I never said Stone Cold was a heel, he was as a Hollywood Blonde with Pillman. He never looked happy going back to USWA, so he could be a heel. Stone Cold was a "Gray", like the Road Warriors taking on heels and babyfaces and on any given night they would cheeer or boo the Road Warriors. The main difference is they set a program with Vince to set-up the character, he wasn't a gimmick, he was a character

    • @terryg995
      @terryg995 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@delbertprince5302 No, you are wrong.Magnum's character had a darkside he developed it back during the SWCW days and improved on it in Florida and perfected it with Wrestler #2 in Mid-South. Stone Cold developed in the last interview after intntionally losing to get rid of the Million Dollare Man. That's how stone Cold hit the stage. Magnum's interviews developed over the years to show an intensity that was believable that he had a darker side. Stone Cold was just " I am whipping ass on GP" he didn't need a reason, but T/A would need a reason to unleash the darker side like Tully Blanchard, or Ernie Ladd they could bring it out.

    Both Magnum TA (Terry Allen) and the late Kerry Von Erich would have been great heels. Imagine both turing heel (a slow heel turn) in a tag team match against Ricky Steamboat & Dustin Rhodes in a early-mid 1990's WCW-WCCW inter promotional partnership.

    • @terryg995
      @terryg995 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kerry was a heel in Florida with David. No his heel turn would have come a whole different way.It would be him getting fe up playing the face and taking attacks by all the other heels, so they would have him match dirt with dirt confusing the fans until Dusty would have tried to reel him in and that would have started the dark run. They would never have let him turn on any partner in the ring that's not his style especially after Mr. II did it to him back at Mid-South. No, it would be a lot more subtle because he was a complex character.

    • @meekrob
      @meekrob 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Perhaps but how many in the crowd would buy it? It might have had a reverse effect and pissed many off. Not that it's Hall's fault but you know what I mean- the crowd might be like "WE WANT OUR MAGNUM! NOT THIS IMPOSTER!". Crowds and audiences are tricky.
      If they used Hall, they would probably have been better off shaving Hall's stache and building as different from Magnum as possible.

    • @SeanRankin2

    • @kbuselmeier69
      @kbuselmeier69 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @sean rankin. You are correct. When Scott Hall left the Central States area for the AWA he was billed as “Magnum” Scott Hall. That lasted briefly then he had his run with Curt Henning as AWA Tag Champs; which was underrated as they were an excellent team. But the AWA did use that Magnum gimmick. I think the difference between TA and Scott Hall was that TA was more polished and established. And TA was also a Southern boy so that worked well down in the southern promotions. Hall would’ve face too much flax if they brought him in and put that gimmick on him; regardless of trying to rep,ace TA (ala Ultimate Warrior-Renegade).

And while I wouldn't blame you for double checking, they're both the same age. In summary, in any alternate timeline where Magnum TA wrestles until he retires of old age, he basically replaces Sting in some capacity, if not entirely. Unless he did something weird like work for Vince and get buried with a lame gimmick, there's no reason to assume that he would have lost all of his popularity before 1996. That early Hogan WCW era might have been awkward, but it was anyways.

    Wow, one of life's wrestling questions I had never contemplated, good one! I think MTA would have been an EXCELLENT heel! As a matter of fact, he would have been an awesome Horseman down the road. The turn would have to stem from "trust" and "student-teacher" issues. Go back & look at Mr. Wrestling 2 turning on him, an element of that. There would have to have been a series of "misunderstandings" in which it seemed Dusty & 2-3 other top baby faces were "supposed to be there" for him but never were. After a major push for the world title, someone "not being there" for him at Starcade would not only cost him the world title but a major injury after an ambush. After months of being sidelined a return was built up and lead to a situation with Dusty needing a major save, out runs MTA for the save and of nowhere = a standing belly-to-belly suplex on Dusty. Historic turn. Imagine the smirks alone that mustache would have provided.

      Not bad at all. Especially Kerry. He would have had promotional rivalries with Crockett due to World Class leaving NWA. And practically no emotional capital invested there. My idea: Week after week we get Magnum and Dusty getting jumped by the Horseman because Dusty has so much heat with them and Dusty's big mouth. Everytime the Horseman come out though it's 4 on 2 and Dusty's getting incapacitated pretty quick and being held by Arn while Tully's beating him but Magnum's really getting the shit beat out of him and every week it's worse. Maybe even the last time, the one that makes Magnum finally make up his mind, you got Sam Houston come out and walk beat up Dusty to the back, leaving Magnum to get a 4-1 beat down from the Horseman. Then the next week one final episode of Dusty getting the Horseman riled, he's with Magnum in the ring, they show clips from the previous weeks of beat downs, Dusty keeps cutting a promo, the Horseman come out. Magnum bails to leave Dusty alone to get the shit beat out of him. David Crocket on the mic starts calling Magnum a coward, of course. Sam Houston issues a challenge to Magnum for Saturday Night's TV show. That match happens and Sam gets a lot of offense but by the end of it it's a squash. Etc. Etc.

    As a child growing up in Brooklyn,I remembered watching Magnum TA in the NWA. If Magnum TA did not get hurt,he would have dominated professional wrestling in the 1980s and possibly in the 1990s pending on his opportunities of leaving NWA.

      Hogan was flash-in-a-pan, Vince banked on getting the kids hooked, so they could browbeat the parents into buying his tickets and crap. NWA was based on characters not gimmick Hogan was a gimmick and Flair and Martel (AWA) were characters. Vince wasn't making any money until the AWA started to fold in '87. If it had not been for JCP F'ing up WWF wouldn't be around today in it's position. Now they have to fend off the AEW doing the same to them.

I'd love to see dark side of the ring cover magnum. If for nothing else to give people a look at his work that wouldn't have seen it in the territory dsys, and to show the aftermath for him from a career standpoint and the fallout. Magnum is a true hall of famer, from character to conduct he's a class act.

    Didn’t he return following his accident as an angry and bitter heel who accused the fans of “abandoning” him? Or do I have him confused with someone else? Numerous people have gotten kayfabe and in some cases legitimately injured as faces and returned as bitter heels who blamed the fans for what happened to them and for not being there for them so it’s an easy to get two people mixed up with one another looking back on it years later.

He could have been the original Triple H. Could he have pulled off being a heel? Of course. Joining the Horsemen turning against Dusty back in the 80's is all you had to do to become a super heel. That or beat up Ricky Morton. Had he went to WWE, just turn on Hogan, but I think Magnum would have went over huge on Hogan. He was a tough guy that women loved and the kids loved. He's actually a very nice guy and wish he never had that horrible accident. He is one of the few that I feel could have changed the course of wrestling had the accident never happened.
