According to Gary's book. Fritz and Ed Mclemore had the NWA move the booking office to Dallas/Ft. Worth under Fritz' control. Mclemore had had a falling out with the NWA under Morris Siegel. And the original Sportatorium was burned down. Would have to imagine that Mclemore never forgot that. Likely when Siegel died, Mclemore made his move with Fritz as his star. If Paul Boesch was such an amazing promoter, the NWA woulda kept the office with him.
The NWA wouldn't have had a choice.
Gary Hart confirmed all of this on the various world class dvds that were produced by wwe and the heroes of wccw.
He forgot to mention the Funks in Amarillo,&the Guerreros in El Paso.

I love Gary Hart, but he had an axe to grind with Fritz because he felt underpaid by Fritz at times.
Fritz wasn't a great promoter, but he dang sure was good. better than any other texas territory.
so good he had workers die from drug abuse or suicide. Fritz booking style was only "make david, kerry, kevin look good"

And you know nothing about WCCW, because if you think he only pushed his sons then you forgot about Chris Adams, Dingo Warrior, The Freebirds and Gino Hernandez.
Lets see....worked with his sons, went to Vince, works with his sons, and worked with his sons. Yeah, that's some none Von Erich pushing right there.
@@chrisp5105 what exactly did warrior achieve while working with Fritz?
@@arnabmukhopadhyay7078 Gary Hart helped Warrior create a large part of his eventual act while in world class. World Class spotlighted the warrior, gave him national exposure through their syndicated shows and created a "package" around him that the WWE eventually picked up. The people in Texas also got him work in local television commericals.
Jim, thank you for doing these podcasts. You have so much knowledge. Wrestling may never be what it once once before kayfabe got out of the barn.
What part of Texas did Bill Watts run?
steeltownbrown52 I'd guess east and south east Texas cause mid-south/UWF was running out of Oklahoma City I do believe. They were running in Louisiana as well. I read somewhere that Watts had some kind of agreement with Boesch in Houston.
Mid-South worked Beaumont, Tx frequently. I think Watts took over Beaumont from Joe Blanchard, who ran San Antonio. I'm not sure why Blanchard stopped coming to Beaumont, though.
I saw an amazing Mid-South card when I was 10 years old in Beaumont in 1984 and another in Orange in 1986 under the UWF banner. Mid-South came pretty frequently. So glad I got to see them.
steeltownbrown52 East Texas.But my first live card I ever saw was at Union Grove,between Tyler,&Longview for WCCW in 1980.
Initially they did shows in the border region with Louisiana. But eventually they were in Houston and the surrounding area as well.They had plans at one point to start running in the Dallas area in direct competition to WCCW, but it never happened in a serious way.
We need a 12 hour Jim Cornette territory omnibus.
