I made these sticking to the recipe and had great success. Everyone ate them. We usually have beans left over, but not this time! I'm so excited! I can cook after all. I'm not very good at cooking; it has to be simple if I'm doing it, but oh, my gosh, these tasted wonderful. I almost ate my share while they were cooking on the stove because they were so good! Loved the video!
Cook smoked turkey with seasoning. Garlic power, onion powder, salt, pepper and onion soup mix. Once the turkey is done, drain the green beans and put into pot with a few cut up white potatoes. Cook on low for about 30 minutes. Then you'll have my granny's green beans.
Tammy, who got time for that, I say that jokingly😂‼️ Because I drain my green beans a little ,instead of waiting for all that liquid to boiled down. I follow the recipe some what. I put the sugar in but instead of oil I use butter and also add salt and pepper and onions . The sugar makes the difference ‼️👍🏾
This is not your best recipe but it certainly is life changing. I’ve been experimenting with your technique on other canned vegetables with great results. Thanks for redoing the video. Nice production values. Stay safe. You two are a gift.
Canned green beans, fresh bacon ( uncooked) chopped in small pieces and 1/2 onion in small pieces, salt and pepper and a pinch of garlic. Cover and cook low and slow……. The BEST!
Love your green beans. A little tip,...anything that's made of stainless steel can be easily cleaned with oven cleaner. Just take the pot out of doors and spray it and forget it for a while. In most cases, you won't have to scrub or scour, maybe a once over with a scrouring pad. The same is true for Corning ware. Burnt on casserole will lift off after a soak in oven cleaner. No use wearing yourself out. LOL....Gary Schneider Alameda, California
Canned green beans are underrated! We like them in salads too for a change up of the usual ingredients. Can't wait to try Tammy's version & all the commenters' variations too.
I’m telling y’all, for anyone who likes country style green beans, you need to try this method at least once. They are some of the best green beans you will ever eat. They taste like they’ve been cooked with country bacon or something. But you have to follow her directions and cook them exactly like she says. They are absolutely delicious!
My German grandmother would cook them according to the meal. Sometimes just fresh green beans lightly cooked with a bit of butter and dill. Sometimes cooked down like this with a little bacon, onion and sweet vinegar. The beans were always from her garden. I preferred the yellow wax beans because as a child I thought the green beans were "furry". Grandma grew both.
I do used canned beans but I cook them down in my stainless steel pot with bacon grease, onion & potatoes. Just like you I keep the liquid and cook them down till most of the liquid is gone . My husband loves them & he’s from the country!
Oh my gosh! This is how I cook my green beans, only in a skillet. But, I do add a little bacon and onion. They are perfect, and everyone always asks what I did to the green beans. They think they are home canned. I do home canned, but this is just a quick shortcut. Thanks for sharing!! This is the first video I have watched of yours. Can't wait to see what else you have done! God Bless!
I, too, have used brown sugar, instead of white, as well as using a very small bit of fatback to add flavor, and it truly is amazing! Now that I have watched this, I am hungry for some! I learned this from my inlaws, both of whom, have since, gone home, to be with the Lord. I have never boiled away all the liquid like that, so I am definitely going to have to try this!
OMW! This is the way I've been taught to cook my green beans for many years. Except for smashing them. We always picked our green beans fresh from the garden. It's only lately that I have been using canned green beans. We actually used saved bacon grease instead of oil. That's what made the green beans so delicious! Not to mention the new potatoes. Those little red potatoes that you can just throw in your green beans before the 1st boil or 1st high heat.
Tammy - I had to watch how you made these beans, because I make mine very much the same way. It is almost the same recipe, except I also add a pat or two of butter, and mix cooked bacon pieces into them when they're thru cooking. I even mash mine, but with fork. and yes - they are, like yours, delicious! Every good cook adds about a tablespoon of sugar the water of boiled corn on the cob, skillet fried squash (not battered), and even to spaghetti sauce. Sugar brings out the flavor of so many foods. I love your recipes.
I cook these beans in a cast iron pan .friends n family always want me to cook these beans every time we get together for a dinner..we absolutely love them!!
Hi Tammy, I love green beans so I am very excited to try this recipe. They look delicious. My question is - how do you reheat them since there is no liquid for reheating? I’m a believer and your story gave me chills all over and a great big smile! Loved that it happened and I know you were blown away. I know you do the videos because you enjoy it but that was a great blessing! Love it!!’
I’m from a king line of southern cooks, and my Mama would say “Don’t turn your nose up at something you haven’t tried!”
I’ve cooked a lot of them (fresh & canned) with & without bacon grease, potatoes, etc, but I’ve not done them this way - I’ll give it s try! 👍

Can't wait to try these. Green beans is a favorite vegetable of mine. On a similar note, to make frozen corn taste garden fresh: Place frozen corn in colander and rinse until chill is off. Drain well. Add to skillet. Add 4T butter and sprinkle 1T sugar on top. On medium high heat stir until butter is melted and the corn is warmed through. Salt and pepper to taste right before seeing.
Can this be done with canned corn?
@@Judy-pq7sy Probably. Just drain it well.
I use sugar and a splash of lemon juice. The lemon juice really takes em up a notch.
I wonder if the lemon helps w the earthy taste?
White wine and garlic.
Made them as directed and they were delicious, my husband who isn’t a green vegetable fan ate a big serving. Thank you!
Hey Tammy! 👋 I tried your green been recipe and it turned out great and delicious! Next time I’m going to use bacon grease and sugar and cook it down. We put bacon grease on three things . Spinach, green beans and poke. Thank you so much for your experience!❤❤❤😮😮😮😊😊😊
Poke good
me to seemed to greasy for my taste
bacon grease for sure
Even people that don't eat greenbeans in my family loved these.
My mom even agreed they tasted like my Mamaw's and my little grinch heart grew 4 times bigger.
THANK YOU for sharing this and connecting our family back to my grandma that has gone a long time.
Awesome!
I'll be trying this TONIGHT! Thank you! If Chris likes it, I'm sold.
We been doing this all my old life. I scorch mine on purpose and scrape the pot . Yum.
I buy the French style green beans I put a pat of butter and a chicken bouillon cube in mine and they have a very good flavor also
I do that and add a little bit of minced garlic and salt, pepper and onion powder in with mine if I'm wanting to do it a little bit differently than I normally do from the bacon grease, pieces of bacon and onion.
I was born a Yankee that moved to California and I love Tammy’s recipes. I am not a good cook, but even I can make her recipes. More than anything I just enjoy watching her. It was nice to see her cohost make an appearance❣️🥰💕🙏🏻
Sounds great!
@@CollardValleyCooks You are making me look so good, lol❣️ But I am honest with people and I share with them where I found the recipes! 😉🙌🏻💖
I am trying them out right now for my dinner with pork roast, potatoes and gravy! My tummy is growling lol 😅
I just made sum and umm so good, BUT, I kicked it up a notch by adding 1can mushroom soup with Durkee onions, no milk and dang what a sweet tasty dish. ❤
I was raised to add at least a dash of sugar to vegetables & to anything with tomatoes to take out the acidity of the tomato. (Like okra, corn, & tomatoes) But Granny ALWAYS had bacon drippin's 🥓 on her huge ancient white gas stove (with the griddle in the middle of eyes) to season her vegetables, dumplins, grits, what have ya ... so Chris ... i LIKE whut you sed ...YES Tammy ...Praise the Lord we all can cook 'em like we learned 'em. 🙌 ❤❤❤ 😃😄😆
I grew up with a coffee can on the back of the stove where my grandmother and mom stored bacon drippings. And yes, it was an ancient white, gas stove!
@YT4Me57 WOO HOOO!!!! Thanks for sharing that!! I was born in 57 & was blessed to know my great grandmother (Granny) She also had tin coffee cans on top of her propane space heater (from the huge propane tank on the side of the house) to put moisture in the air. I miss that simple life. 😃😄😆💖💕✨️👋👋
@@YT4Me57 I remember in the '60s and '70s you could buy a 3 piece set to keep on the stove that had metal salt & pepper shakers AND a container with lid to hold the bacon grease. Thanks for bringing back that memory 💕
@@rfowler6039 my Mama had that very set. She’s been gone almost 20yrs but my Daddy still has it on the stove.
Sherry Webber my Mama taught me to always add a “touch” of sugar to everything! She was a wonderful cook and everybody always wanted her recipes and to know what her secret was.
I tried this recipe and all I can say is WOW!!!!!! My food critic husband even loved it!!! Definitely in my dinner rotation.
I love these green beans. I need to get that pot because you’re right, it marks up my stainless and it’s hard to get off. Thank you.❤
Bar keepers friend will easily clean that stainless steel pot. Regular Ajax or commet will also work. Whichever you use, make a paste with it, spread it all over the pot and just let it sit a bit or even overnight if needed. It will all wipe away with a washcloth.
Oh my they are delish! I’m having my best friend are her hubby over for lunch today. I saw this you tube video yesterday and decided to make just one small can of green beans and adjust the oil and sugar amounts to make sure they tasted great! I sat and ate the whole pan. Leaving them dry down and sizzle and pop is the secret!
That is awesome!
I love soft green beans.
I do mine similar. I use bacon grease and Lawry’s Season salt. I fry to they get caramelized!yum.
I made these for my husband, who absolutely LOVES green beans! Me not so much! I’ve never been confident in my ability to make green beans and my husband said his Mom made the best! She was an excellent, southern cook! He said these were so delicious!! Thanks Tammy for giving me a recipe that I can feel confident in😊😊😊 I did add 1/2 of a diced onion in mine.
Great to hear!
Tammy, once I made green beans following your recipe years ago, I have not made them any other way. They are so very good. 😊
Thanks!
Welcome!
I use a smoked turkey leg in my turnip and collard greens. My family loves them 💗
I tried them and my husband & I enjoyed them. He prefers to remove the juice and add water instead as a healthier alternative to the juice.
Tammy, who got time for that, I say that jokingly😂‼️
Because I drain my green beans a little ,instead of waiting for all that liquid to boiled down. I follow the recipe some what. I put the sugar in but instead of oil I use butter and also add salt and pepper and onions . The sugar makes the difference ‼️👍🏾

Tammy: how long does your way take to cook?
This is not your best recipe but it certainly is life changing. I’ve been experimenting with your technique on other canned vegetables with great results. Thanks for redoing the video. Nice production values. Stay safe. You two are a gift.
Canned green beans, fresh bacon ( uncooked) chopped in small pieces and 1/2 onion in small pieces, salt and pepper and a pinch of garlic. Cover and cook low and slow……. The BEST!
Made these again for family reunion, double recipe, always a hit! Thanks!
Great to hear!
They look so yummy! I can't wait to try your recipe, green beans are a favorite in my house
I always wondered why folks always have so many canned green beans in the pantry. This has indeed, changed my life!😊 I had no idea! Thank you so much.
Wow, I made those green beans a few nights ago and they’re delicious
Love your green beans. A little tip,...anything that's made of stainless steel can be easily cleaned with oven cleaner. Just take the pot out of doors and spray it and forget it for
a while. In most cases, you won't have to scrub or scour, maybe a once over with a scrouring pad. The same is true for Corning ware. Burnt on casserole will lift off after
a soak in oven cleaner. No use wearing yourself out. LOL....Gary Schneider Alameda, California
Canned green beans are underrated! We like them in salads too for a change up of the usual ingredients. Can't wait to try Tammy's version & all the commenters' variations too.
I like green beans all kinds of ways. I'll give this one a try.
Yummy a must try! Have a great weekend.👍❤️😋
Made these green beans....have to say, they are delicious! They actually tasted like my grañdmas!! Thank you so much for this recipe!!❤
Best green beans I've ever had. It's the only way I make green beans.
My mom and grandmother always put a “pinch of sugar” in all their vegetables. They were depression era cooks and very southern. Best meals ever.
I’m telling y’all, for anyone who likes country style green beans, you need to try this method at least once. They are some of the best green beans you will ever eat. They taste like they’ve been cooked with country bacon or something. But you have to follow her directions and cook them exactly like she says. They are absolutely delicious!
My Mom used uncooked bacon tips and onions her home canned green beans, with the water and cooked down they tend to smush some !! Perfect
I always love y'alls videos and enjoy seeing how other folks do things. I'm in my kitchen in the same apron. 😊
Olive oil is the only oil I use. Love green beans..normally refrain from table sugar, but will try this next time.
that is how my grandma made her green beans, they were the best
Ive always cooked mine with bacon grease. I love green beans.
I don’t add sugar but I do cook my green beans dry. I even like them a little scorched 🙃
Hello Tammy and Chris thank you looks great
I even add a little sugar when I make my collard greens, you would never know it🎉!
Sugar in Collard greens, pork and beans, green beans, and homemade spaghetti sauae.
God Bless!
Hope you enjoy
Funny I’m eating canned green beans as soon as I got on your live, I really have to try this ❤
I, too, have used brown sugar, instead of white, as well as using a very small bit of fatback to add flavor, and it truly is amazing! Now that I have watched this, I am hungry for some! I learned this from my inlaws, both of whom, have since, gone home, to be with the Lord. I have never boiled away all the liquid like that, so I am definitely going to have to try this!
They are absolutely Heavenly ❤🙏🏻❤️
Just made these and my FAMILY WENT CRAZY FOR THESE AND YES TO THE MASHING AND YES TO THE SUGAR!!!!! THANK U ❤
So glad!
Looks sooooo good!! Making them tonight. So, no salt or pepper????
❤
I cook these beans in a cast iron pan .friends n family always want me to cook these beans every time we get together for a dinner..we absolutely love them!!
Sounds great!
Hi Tammy, I love green beans so I am very excited to try this recipe. They look delicious. My question is - how do you reheat them since there is no liquid for reheating? I live alone so I would not be able to eat all of these green beans at one meal. Thanks for a delicious looking recipe. Love watching you and Chris together. Such a happy couple.❤️🤗👏 lark
You can add liquid back
You could cook just one 15 oz can with just a tiny bit of oil and 1 TEASPOON of sugar.
You’ll probably eat them all with no left overs. 😂. They probably r that good. 👏
Heat them in microwave!
I cook my green beans about same way jus never boiled the liquid out .will try that tho. And i put sugar in my chili along with a little bit of a can cola it makes all the difference and very yummy
