    Join me for the first drive with the tune loaded. No music, just me talking about how the truck feels and how it is performing differently than before the tune.

    Old video but i noticed you said after i stop it “clunks” i HATE that mine does this, did that tune ultimately fix that clunking after you stop?

  • @cg9608
    @cg9608 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Totally understand the clunks you're talking about. I got a 2016 5.0 and looking to tune it. Mainly to hold out the rpms, increase throttle response, and have 6th be an actual O/D like you said. Don't really care for much more power though as I don't want to mess with valve timing, ignition etc...I'll have to look into Omega though. I was only looking at MPT before. Thanks!

      Stay far away from OZ tuners. They don't honor warranties on the equipment they sell.

    I just tuned my 16 with oz my transmission has been acting all kinds of crazy since I did it. It has habits of short shifting and slipping and my truck has never done any of that before the tune. I sent them an email explaining my issues and am hoping they fix it or I’m out. In many ways.

    • @GearTubeTV
      @GearTubeTV  ปีที่แล้ว

      Their customer service is truly top notch. When I first installed the tune, I noticed the transmission differences as well. But, the question is how long have you been driving it since you've installed the tune? With my truck the more I drove it, the better it felt. I ultimately had them do a revision for shifting, which was maybe $50 for them to rewrite the tune. The more I drove it, the better it felt. Sometimes it's just the immediate difference you feel in the truck from before it was tuned that has a shock factor to it, but I'm confident they will get everything sorted out for you.

      @@GearTubeTV At this point I have about 150 miles on it since the tune I can tell it is learning from driving. Also I know that in manual every gear shifts firmly with no slipping feel so it seems like it just needs to adapt. I emailed them asking if there was more I can do to help the learning because I’ve drove every possible style from grandma to drag racer to help it learn. The only thing I don’t really like at all is the 1st gear rpm. It’s just too high for my taste. Under light throttle it won’t shift till above 2500.

    It needs to be connected all the time or soon as the tune is done can i disconnect the programmer?

    • @GearTubeTV
      @GearTubeTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Victor! Once the tune is loaded and you're finished using the device, you can disconnect it and put it away. Or, you can leave it connected and view the gauges. Typically I just disconnect it and put it in a cabinet in my garage.

    Did the shifts smooth out? I don't hate my factory shifts, just want more performance. When I tuned my 03 Mustang, the shifts were almost unbearable.

    • @GearTubeTV
      @GearTubeTV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey David! The 1-2 shift was still really clunky and hard, the rest sort of smoothed out as it "learned" my driving style. But, when I would drag race the truck I always did a KAM reset to clear that memory and let it run the tune as is. Overall, loved the tune and loved how the truck was so much more driveable. But I just couldn't get over that 1-2 shift. I ended up using manual mode and feathering the throttle until I was in 2nd, then went back to automatic (D) mode. I know with OZ's customer service, I could have had them soften the shift but I figured I would live with it and get used to it lol.

    Any updates on this? Power? MPG? what other upgrades do you have besides this tuner? Would you recommend this omega tune? Sorry for all the questions, but I have a 2013 5.0 F150 and I am considering a tune. Mine is 100% stock right now other than 32 inch tires, and a small lift.

    • @GearTubeTV
      @GearTubeTV  6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Thanks for the message. The performance gain is amazing. I can't say for sure what the power gain is because I did not dyno the truck before, and I haven't dyno'd it yet. If I had to guess I would say a gain of about 50 HP at the crank, and 25-30 at the wheels. The MPG has not changed to be honest. The hard part is keeping my foot out of it, but when driving normal there is no real loss in MPG. The other upgrade I have is the JLT cold air intake. Other than the intake and tune, the struck is completely stock, 4WD supercrew, with the 3.55 electronic locking diff and max tow package. I HIGHLY recommend the Omega Tune! By far the most driveable tune, the sport mode is insane, and the tow/haul mode works awesome. That's the great thing about the Omega tune, all driving modes are improved and you can use any grade of fuel including E85. Your overall performance may suffer just slightly with the oversized tires (granted they aren't much bigger than stock) and the lift. Either way, the difference from tuned and not tuned is night and day. Plus Ken knows his stuff... he is a wizard at 5.0s with the Omega tune.

    How do you switch tunes?

    • @GearTubeTV
      @GearTubeTV  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you get an Omega tune you can switch between stock and Omega using the tuner. There are some companies out there that have multiple tunes such as "towing" "race" "daily" etc. Then if you want to change tunes you just follow the instructions on the tuner.

    how do you like it now?

    • @GearTubeTV
      @GearTubeTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I love it just as much now as I did then! It is probably the best single thing I have ever done to my truck. The drive-ability compared to stock is incredible. While I have seen the best fuel mileage with the tune to be on the highway with cruise control set, I like in town driving with it as well. Staying in the "power range" really helps when you either need to accelerate a bit more quickly to avoid things, or sometimes even just for the higher RPMs with the exhaust (good for a smile haha!). Towing with it is a huge improvement as well. All in all, it truly has been everything the OMEGA tune has been hyped to be.

    WHAT TUNE ADDS THE MOST H.P? On the 5.0 f150s ive used sct ..but been seeing alot of OZ.and vmp .....what do you guys think.?

    • @GearTubeTV
      @GearTubeTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In my opinion, OZ tuning has probably the best reputation for putting out high power tunes that are safe for the vehicle you drive. For example, if you want something extreme, they will work with you on that. If you want enhanced performance but haven't added any bolt-ons or other performance parts, they will make sure your tune is safe for what you have so you are at less risk of breaking something. I will admit, though, that I do not have any experience with tunes other than SCT and OZ. Maybe some other folks will comment to add their experiences.

    • @chrisclayton5349

      @@booaks3172 I know this has been a few months but SCT mostly produces hardware. They have canned tunes which are usually mildly better than stock but will be shamed by any custom tune such as OZ or VMP. They are greatly optimized for the application. So you will still have your handheld of choice (SCT is one of the most common) and OZ VMP etc simply send you a file that can be loaded onto your device that they have optimized for your setup. You will always do much better with a custom tune like that than a stock canned tune from any of the handheld makers like SCT, superchips etc. That said you can also go one step further and do dyno tuning or datalogging corrections to dial the custom tunes in even more. something that SCT and the others don't really do. Which is why guys like OZ and VMP exist they take it one step further basically. Now a mostly stock or bolt ons knly likely won't see the cost benefit of dyno time its when ypu get into big mods that that starts becoming a big deal. But these are mass produced engines after all so its not uncommon to have some variation in them. Thats where a custom tune file really helps. It can fix a lot of the little quirks you may have due to that variation in production. To sum it up SCT and the others buy a vehicle to test and create a tune and then send it to you. Which will work pretty well but may not take into account the slight variations in production tolerance. That said as you add more mods that variation can increase a good bit which is where the custom tuning helps. And starts to become worth the cost to get it done. This a very oversimplified explanation but hopefully it helps you kind of understand the process.

      Sure as long as the tuner you want to use supports that brand. Each tuner has their preferences and it cost money to buy into the software. So many of them pick their favorites. Usually their sites will tell you what brand of tuners they support.
