The music is actually taken directly from Super Mario Galaxy 2: Throwback Galaxy. That's why it sounds so good. Most of the models are taken from that game too.

2014 - 2016 era Vinny sounds so different
It's pretty good, but it definitely needs some work.
I noticed a lot of the sounds are ripped from different Mario games. Coin collecting sound from one of the Gameboy Advanced (?) games, coin appearing sound from Sunshine, many effects from 64, the conflicting styles are kinda offputting.
As well I think the textures could be a bit more detailed, even 3D world had more depth and detail than the current textures.
But aside from that it's almost perfect!

Helmed Videos Trademark law is trademark law. Nintendo has to shut everything like this down as soon as they see it or they lose the ability to defend their trademarks in court when it'd actually matter.

This games been incredibly popular, it hasn't hurt anyone, it isn't making money off anything, literally no reason to take it down basically

Unity is an amazing engine for games. I could see this one becoming a fully fledged game. I mean it is certainly competent if not a littler rough around the edges.

Inverted Silence EDM It was in alpha or something. There wasn't even a second star added yet. Polish on that scale probably was around the bottom of the designer's to-do list after "Replicate all levels" and "Add in other 120 stars" before the DMCA came along and ruined everyone's fun.
The mario model isn't "galaxy style", its ripped straight from galaxy, like alot of the models in this game, thats why the project was C&D'd, the author was also trying to profit from it.

And some people wonder why they're not doing all that great. Shit, even SEGA and Capcom have let fan works and non-profits be. If I remember correctly Capcom actually went to OC Remix and asked them to make the music for SF2 HD a few years ago, SEGA asked around and talked to fans about music remixes for Sonic Generations too, although that might be just a rumour.

It's a shame how Nintendo only makes Zelda HD remakes, when their soul mascot Mario gets no HD remakes. For the 20th Anniversary of Super Mario 64, they should release an HD remake. June 23rd, 1996 -> June 23rd, 2016.

They really should, it is one of my favourite games of all time, it was just my entire childhood, i would absolutely love a HD Remake because i just love how the new HD mario graphics look, the game was so good with all the different worlds and characters, as a kid it was magic and i think they could make it even more so these days
It's cool that we have the 64 PC port but this is still super impressive, especially for the time

I hate it when people say the same thing [how crappy unity is] about Flash as well. Flash gets such a bum rap because a ton of people make shitty animations with it, but if used properly and with animation principles in mind, you can actually make some amazing things with it. It's just a tool, just like Unity is a tool.
The reason flash sucks is because it crashes constantly. It's outdated, and eats your CPU the longer it's active. Sure, you can make cool animations with it, but you'll always be limited since it can't produce files that take too much space.

If they weren't strict, they really wouldn't have anything to back them up when some big-name competitor tries making money off of their intellectual property. It's business, it's what companies do. They're protective of their trademarks, that's literally the entire point of trademarks. The only reason people think Nintendo is so bad when it comes to this is because there are about 1,000 times as many Nintendo based fangames online than there are fangames based around franchises from every other video game company combined. The only reason you hear Nintendo associated with this more often than anybody else is merely because they have to deal with it more often than anybody else. Plain and simple.
Nintendo is the center for a lot of hate in the gaming world nowadays, and you can say what you want about Nintendo falling behind in terms of hardware, about their online issues, about their contemporary game library, whatever, that's fine, and you'd be right in saying they need to step their game up. But don't get mad at a business for being a business. Do you get mad at a dog for being a dog? I mean you get mad that he shits on your carpet, but are you mad simply because he's a dog? Come on, now.

the issue is, SM64 goes perfect with the relatively simple graphics and everything since the console was limited, but this is made in 2015 on a completely different and far more capable engine, and i feel like there could have been a little more of graphical eyecandy (yes, i know it's only a demo, but still)

I feel like they kind of deserved to get taken down by Nintendo. They used way too many assets ripped straight from the games for them to be safe, plus if they did make the whole game and release it for free, Nintendo would lose money from Virtual Console sales. It was kind of a good idea at first, but in hindsight it was kind of their fault for getting C&D'ed like that.

It doesn't mesh at all. The N64 geometry with hd graphics looks like shit. It makes it look like a modern low-effort indie game. The original or even the DS remake looks way better than this just because all the aspects of the game complement and flow with each other.
It was just a tech demo of the guy's movement script, and I think it's pretty good for that.
Turns out there's no Star. Once you get 100 coins you turn into Gold Mario. Invincible (except to fall damage) and everything that harms you (except fall damage and bubbles) get turned into coins. (The 3 builders at the base of the mountain give lots of coins while the builders that roll down the mountain only yield 1 coin)

He remade a game that doesn't belong to him including characters that Nintendo has the rights to. They are more than legally allowed to take down this project if they so wished. If he's that talented (which he isn't really as most of these models are ripped straight from Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2, even the music is from Throwback Galaxy in SMG2), he should be more than talented enough to just create his own game.

Gray Mann Still. You worked on something for years, it took a lot of time and money. Then somebody just makes a better looking version of it (with assets you created in a later project) years later and takes immense credit for it.

It looks extremely bland and quite obviously like a fan game. The world is scaled too large compared to Mario, the textures are extremely lackluster and bland, and the game just doesn't look at all fun, and I'd much rather go play the actual Super Mario 64 instead. I feel like people are too hyped over "Hey remember Super Mario 64, well we made it in almost HD!" and not actually looking at the game itself, which isn't impressive. It's almost in a way, akin to Sonic 2 HD, only Sonic 2 HD in HD looks promising, where as this looks... For lack of a better word, bland and dull.

If you collect all 100 Coins you turn into Gold Mario and not just a star with a boring message!
You actually become golden after collecting 100 coins.
This = prime example of how Unity can be used properly
