An acquaintance of mine has put together a video about some things on the Super Mario 64 iceberg that I failed to mention. Steff has been working with a number of people in developing the mythos and lore surrounding the iceberg, so if you want to see how deep it truly goes, please check out their video... th-cam.com/video/MLCmArsq7pE/w-d-xo.html
“Now imagine Mario running around” “Ok” *imagines Mario running around* “Did you imagine Mario falling into a pit?” “No I imagined Mario running around”
"Did you imagine him falling?" "Uh...i imagined him running...you didnt say anything about falling. If you had told me to imagine him falling i would have done so"
Has nobody ever considered that the 'Please walk quietly in the hallway' is just a sign from when the castle was owned by Peach? Maybe she needs her beauty sleep
it has a very bad level design is just a bunch of geometry thrown in the air and you gotta play with the water maybe if it was just made around the town, it would have been a better stage
Indeed. It could have been a nice walking simulator like LSD Dream Emulator at the very least, but all you do as a newb is stand around waiting to get thrown upward. As a pro, you just start with the water level high and swim to your objective. A bad Mario level and a bad Dream Emulator level.
There’s something really funny to me how this guy said “you already know how iceberg charts work” yet all the other iceberg videos that came out of this explains what an iceberg chart is
@@madokalover From a practical standpoint, the very tall walls and completely enclosed areas are necessary given that the entire map has to be able to completely fill with water. Were these outer walls to not exist or at least not be so tall, the map would likely feel a lot less claustrophobic.
Wet dry World is the scariest level, the underwater ghost town and the skybox give it a very creepy aura. where are the people from that underwater town? What's happening in the skybox? Are we being watched the whole time? Its a lot to speculate from
@@Scary_Mar0 huh? what do you mean, I’ve seen no other video do that. If you have could you please link it to me? not to bash them but cause I’m curious edit: okay so there was a Minecraft one that did something similar (thank you Ruby for telling me about this gem). But even so they did ‘t copy him completely there’s still some merit to it.
I've come back to this video multiple times over the years. I just love how it feels like a story, uncovering details and artifacts from one of my favorite games. The narration is clear, and there is no whacky sound effects or added fluff. Just a pure video of interesting content from start to finish This is truly one of the absolute greatest videos on this platform.
"I'm not gonna waste your time, you know how this iceberg images work." Me, who had no god damn idea what he's talking about and thought this video was about an actual iceberg: "oh ok"
So basically, the higher the iceberg the most common and not as “dark” conspiracy theories are, but the deeper, the darker and more speculation rises that are packed into the theories at the bottom.
"Your friends are trapped within' the walls", is just another way of saying, "Your friends are trapped in the castle". I don't think Bowser meant they were literally in the walls.
The ghostly toads who are never more than a foot from any wall and materialize into being when you speak to them aren't supposed to be stuck in the walls?
Except the first Toad says they're trapped INSIDE the walls. I don't think the Toads are literally walled-in, nor do I think they're simply unable to leave the castle. That very same Toad says the following: "The Princess...and I...and, well, everybody...we're all trapped inside the castle walls. Bowser has stolen the castle's Stars, and he's using their power to create his own world in the paintings and walls." I think by "trapped inside/within the walls", they mean they're trapped in the pocket dimensions Bowser made, which are accessed via the paintings in the walls. True, we never see any Toad in any of the levels, but we can assume some of those dimensions were made simply as prisons and he threw away the key or something, or maybe we never found them all to begin with. This also explains why Peach seemingly comes out of the stained glass in the end. I mean, there's no definite proof of this, but I don't think it's that much of a stretch or over-analysis. I always thought it was pretty much implied that's what was happening.
This video is TH-cam history. Not only did it popularize the whole Mario 64 iceberg thing but also iceberg videos in general. I remember watching this and getting the creeps. Dude basically started a new video format
Wet Dry World's negative aura also comes from the fact that there's a town with no one in it. A dead, drowned town. Disturbing. There's also the flamethrower orbs in the water that don't function. Another drowned, dead resident. AFAIK they literally can never come alive and shoot fire. Disturbing. You also (barring speedrun techniques) can't just jump up to higher levels of the course without using the water. Which feels like it restricts freedom. That on top of the fact that some of the water levels are only triggerable by entering the painting (max height is just above the highest crystal), and you can't get out of the town. Disturbing.
Yeah, I don't think it's that hard to explain, it's just a very empty feeling level. Plus there's awkward and frustrating parts to the gameplay of that level that adds to it on top like the flipper enemies being finicky and dangerous, and you can easily mess up the water level. Also how hard it is to access the town plus all the steps with changing the water level to get to it adds to the mystery of the level.
i like how a video this significant to the internet culture of the 2020s came from a random guy and not like a big tuber or toker. and as much as i like putting these iceberg explained vids in the background, i think this is still the best one (probably because its more specific than, say, "Murderers" or "Horror Movies"). godspeed.
might be a dumb question but do you ever think like Holy Crap I Influenced Culture or are you so used to this videos legacy it doesnt cross your mind anymore
@@michalswag I think I've gotten used to it but whenever I see a big TH-camr that I've watched for _years_ upload an iceberg it feels very weird like I'm somehow indirectly responsible for this. Now it's only happened once or twice but when I hear people in real life talk about iceberg videos it REALLY throws me for a loop. I am continually grateful that people to come here and recognize me as something greater than I am, but you did get it right that I am just some guy, and I only happened to luck out on the algorithm with a format that people happened to enjoy. I'm also honored whenever I see others expanding upon the iceberg video format and sharing amazing content with the world because of it.
@@MishKoz It must have been surreal when you first noticed the trend taking off, seeing tens of to later hundreds of videos about something you made (How many subs did you even have when you released this?). I always come back to this video to pay homage to the person who created LITERALLY one of my favorite entertainment genres ever. You are a real legend dude.
Another thing that I don't see mentioned very often is that in the mirror room, Toad tells you to pay attention to what "ISN'T reflected" but the secret painting is only invisible from the side you're standing in, which could imply you're on the wrong side of the mirror, as your side is the one not reflecting the painting
I wanted to mention that, but I figured that it could be interpreted either way; like the blank wall _isn't_ reflected in the mirror. The Toad's message would make sense either way so I figured it didn't really matter that much.
I have some input on the WDW negative aura: Since the entire thing is a village, and as you said earlier, Mario is the only human that enters these worlds, it may be a sort of autophobia (fear of isolation) causing that negative aura.
The little isolated village always reminded me of one of those 'prop towns' that were used in desert areas when they'd test atomic bombs way back when. Always found that area a bit unsettling, as I used to think Bowser drowned the Toads who might have once lived there.
I think the “shhh, please walk quietly in the hallway!” Is supposed to be a nod to art galleries or museums. In America you usually only think about that sort of courtesy in Libraries and sometimes art galleries, but in Japan where this game was mostly developed, it’s a common courtesy to be quiet in museums, libraries, and art galleries alike. The area it appears in seems to be some sort of art gallery.
That's what I always thought. I figured the paintings and statues made the place feel like you shouldn't be running around or you could break a priceless Mushroom Kingdom artifact.
My theory about the negative emotions of Wet-Dry world is that it causes discomfort because it combines claustrophobia, and slightly eerie music, with the discomfort from viewing a liminal space. The liminal space in this situation is the abandoned town. If you see a town you subconsciously expect that there must be people there to inhabit said village. This braking of an expectation in your mind may cause you to feel uneasy or as if something is off somehow. The human mind loves consistency, and when something violates that consistency it can disturb you.
"Imagine Mario running around" Brain: Mario is now breakdancing "Did you imagine him falling in a pit?" Brain: Mario is now falling in a pit. Mario has not stopped dancing.
Ironically, Wet Dry World's chilling atmosphere and uncomfortable feeling is why it's always been my favorite. It's really odd that I loved exploring what I considered a haunted level, as I was an absolute pissy baby who was too scared to fight Deku Babas as a kid. It's still my favorite level, and Tiny Huge Island is usually when I hit my 64 burnout.
19:08 hey Mish Koz, I would like to complete your theory about the darkness in the ghost cage. It’s been proven (not by actually shrinking someone but by how light works) that if a human were to shrink down to a microscopic size, their eyes would perceive things MUCH darker because there is less light absorbed from the perspective of smaller eyes. This is why the blades of grass and sky look like a dark haunted forest!
Smh I LITERALLY pictured Mario just running around in circles. EDIT: Ok can y’all stop replying. I get it “Same! Yeah! Me too! I pictured him running around in grass, I pictured him running around in bomb omb battlefield” I get it bros.
i remember it vividly. Mario's in a flat, green grassy field, running around in S-shapes and dashing to a side. no jumping or HUD or sloped terrain either; you could see the edge of the map around 20 - 40 ft ahead of you. the skybox was BOB/CG.

people always mention that mario kills the mushroom people in super mario bros for NES because he smashes the brick blocks and the manual says "the quiet peace loving mushroom people were turned into stones bricks and even field horse hair plants" what people never mention is that the manual also says the mushroom people that are trapped inside the blocks help mario on his journey by giving him coins mushrooms fire flowers and stars so the the brick blocks that you get items from are the only ones that used to be mushroom people and those blocks are impossible to break therefore mario dosen't kill the mushroom people
Yes that is true, however in New Super Mario bros it is possible to destroy the question mark blocks that you get items from by using the mega mushroom which can destroy question mark blocks
I love how this Mario 64 iceberg is full of weird and interesting stuff, and most of the information is obscure even to people who beat Mario 64, but 99% of the icebergs that came out as a result of this one are basic information anybody who played the game would know or stuff you can easily find on Wikipedia
The secret Boo laugh part reminded me of something interesting. That was a sound effect of a man laughing, it was pitched way up to make Boo's laugh, but also pitched way down to make Bowser's. Well, turns the original sound effect was apparentlly recorded by Charles Martinet.
I did want to mention that! In fact, the majority of the sound effects in the game sound sped-up if you extract them, and they're slowed down during gameplay to sound normal. Charles Martinet also recorded the "URGH" sound used for Thwomps and stuff
My guess for “toad projection”: toads only render when you get close to them, and it looks like they fade into view, so it looks like they’re projected holograms?
from Urban Dictionary, Projection means "An unconscious self-defense mechanism characterized by a person unconsciously attributing their own issues onto someone or something else as a form of delusion and denial." The toads were projecting onto Mario with their messages.
@@40hzsquarewave There are other definitions for projection, such as what is displayed by a projector or astral projection. The Urban Dictionary definitions are always relating to social/conversation contexts rather than pure meaning unless the meaning is obscure enough that people will think it is slang.
@@throwachair4574 Yeah, you'd think it'd be obvious, but I guess the fact that the Toads are trapped in the castle walls doesn't really get to people, it's why there are never any toads in the middle of a room, they're stuck to the corners and walls, That's definitely why they fade
20:37 Nah, I ain't about to let you slide with that, homie! Wario's face itself was bad enough, and you had to go on ahead and sneak that terrifying picture in. 🤣
Laughed loudly at that "FAKE ENDING, KILL THEM ALL" reference. Truly amazing video, and I love the idea of the health meter as an indicationfor certainty
I don’t know if this is true, but I’ve heard that the “walk quietly in the hallway” sign is actually a hint so you have a chance to hear the clock ticking from Tick Tock Clock
Huh. When I was a kid and I first got to that part, I DID wonder if the sign had anything to do with the "weird sound coming from behind that door". It wasn't until I got to that part that I finally found out it was a clock.
Probably, but as a Japanese, I can tell that it is a phrase that teachers in Japan say a lot, like don't run in the hallway. Because in Japan, running or being noisy in the hallway is a rude and annoying thing, and also could interrupt the other classes. So since the game was developed in japan, maybe this is it.
Ok, it really freaks me out how the "Peach is behind the stained glass window" theory is there, because as a kid, I used to play this game so much and always had this feeling that Peach was always there, trapped behind the glass, not being able to get to her or for her to get out and as a kid for some reason it just really got to me in this weird, amazing kind of way, that made me want to keep going back for more to try and find out. This was such a nostalgic part of the video for me and made my hairs stand on end to think somebody thought of this too, and not just me having those thoughts as a kid.
Nintendo company is not what it seems.. it’s finally coming out and people are waking up and realizing things. I knew something was off about the game but very exciting. Lots of others are speculating this and it’s not looking good for Nintendo. Their company is no different, deceiving and nothing more... I see why they’re making a new Mario collection to clean it all up..

We’re talking about years-long conspiracy theories, meanwhile I just realized today that the background of the health meter is Mario’s head turned sideways.
*Did you imagine Mario falling into a pit?" No... I imagined him running around in circles on grass Outside the castle and as i can see in the comments many people got the same idea
After 2 years, I came back to watch this iceberg video and noticed something. When you were talking about the Brain diagram at 29:28, saying that there's some brain diagram hidden in the assets of Wet-Dry World. When you said you couldn't find it, I saw at 29:36 Mario was laying on the brain diagram. It might be just me but the ground texture looks just like a brain diagram...But now I can't unsee it...Worth it!
I think the main issue with Wet-Dry world is that its so lifeless. Every stage has some sort of personality or feel to it, but the same cant be said about Wet-Dry world. First, where the hell are you supposed to be in? You can see buildings outside, but youre just in a caged in box thing with randomly placed architecture, where nothing lives other than a few robots. Then you enter the "town" section through some water tunnel, and its even more lifeless. There are basically no enemies and it feels like a ghost town.
I probably would have cut it from the game. It makes you feel very alone, I definitely get what he means by wanting to stop when you get to that level.
it reminds me of this weird dream i’ve had as a kid, and now that i think about it, it’s kind of recurring. but for some reason, i want to be there. i’ve always been attracted to water and the color blue, so that level makes me feel somewhat comforted but it’s also off putting at the same time. it reminds me of a dream where there’s just no one to talk to and it’s just you there, alone, yet you feel at ease. maybe that’s what death is like.
I think the reason that wet dry world has that aura around it is because of how grey and dull it is. If you think about it, all the levels before and after are fun, colourful, and different from the last. Wet dry world is grey and sad. The music adds aswell. When it’s used in Hazy Maze Cave, it’s ominous. It fits with the dark, dreary feeling of the map, which ultimately makes it fun. When you look at wet dry world compared to, let’s say Whomp’s Fortress, Whomp’s fortress is joyful, using happy music that fits the stage to grow feelings of joy, and child like happiness. The stage has a clear design, switching it up from it’s previous stage. When you enter wet dry world, the music immediately brings you back to the dark, dreariness of hazy maze cave, but the feeling quickly flees, as you realize that it is very off looking. The grey look of the cave gives off the feeling of sadness and despair. The stage eliminates any sense of exploration, as you can see everything (except the town) which makes you lose that joy of a new level. When you go to enter the town, you have to go down a long, grey, sad tunnel, a metaphor for the level’s depressive feeling. Then, you are given a claustrophobic, boxed in town. All the homes, grey and sad, still giving off energy of sadness. After completing a star, it plays a happy jingle, but fails to rejuvenate the player from the depressive level they have played. Thanks for reading if you did. I just kinda wanted to give you guys what I think is the reason for the level’s negative aura. Thanks
This should be a staple for all kinds of channels. If someone makes a statement, but they’re only 40% sure about it, they’d probably get a lot less hate if they got it wrong.
The truth of the Big Boos Laugh: its a very real phenomenon that happens but it's just a technical artifact of processing for the system picked up in audio. Sometimes when audio is stopped or loaded or preloaded it can slow down in the old 64 engine. This happens during transitions, like opening up a door. You can detect this easily audibly walking in out or doors in Zelda. Sometimes the music slows for a second as the next music picks up. In the boo level, that happens if at the same time a boos laugh is cued during a transition, it would be a slow down boos laugh, which sounds weird because it pitches the voice down back to normal speaking octaves, but its still being modulated synthetically so it's so uncanny. It sounds like a sinister man laugh when placed in context of it being a haunted house.
@@n646n sigh. Yes you are right. These sounds need to be loaded in engine and sync to time. During processing transitions sometimes they get slowed down to sync. The sound effects for boos laugh is a normal man laughing sped up. Bowser uses the same laugh sped way down. That's how they made the sound effect. When syncing during transitions like opening up a door if a boos laugh is played some of it can be sped down making it sound like a sinister laugh. Some of the low end is gen losses from being sped up to slowed down again so it makes for a modulation and clipping that can make it sound more out of place and uncanny.
@@legatomodi3522 The interesting thing about the sound itself is that it came from a stock audio library so it was pure coincidence that it actually was the voice of Charles Martinet
I think the Secret Aquarium thing is referring to each of the windows of the Aquarium being different colours, as well as the weirdness of a massive cube filled with water. l remember reading some batshit theory from like 2003 about how each of the window's colours had some spiritual significance to the human brain or something.
@@MishKoz Kinda related, but the whole Toad Projection and Toads trapped inside the walls thing l believe refers to their ghostly appearance if you aren't close to them/after you talk to them, almost as though there's so little power left in the castle they can only afford to "surface" for very brief times.
"Picture mario ruining around" Well his running animations were limited in Nintendo 64 so it's not really that surprising that people would think the same thing. I personally imagined him running around in a tight circle counter clockwise.
32:30 i asked a japanese friend of mine what his take would be, and he said that miyamoto thanking him wasnt so much an admission of guilt as much as it was a "You had a really good idea and i think we could have worked it out, since our formulae was working, we just didnt know that back then" kinda thing except super polite and super japanese. Thats just his take tho, he said it wouldnt be so uncommon, and he totally understands when it comes across wrongly to anyone who isnt japanese, because the japanese way of talking politely is a distinct one, and very indirect
Dude it’s unreal how big iceberg charts became due to this video. I remember seeing this about a week after it was uploaded and thinking that it was such a unique new idea. Now these types of videos are all over the place. Crazy how trends can form so quickly
Regarding L is Real, the first character looks like the Japanese character 上, meaning up/top. I imagine it originally said something like "top text / bottom text" before being compressed beyond recognition.

Hi! Just wanted to say I appreciate the level of respect you showed while discussing the 0.5 A presses topic. I really like how you set a trend for small time TH-camrs. You and Sunflower made classic videos regarding the Super Mario 64 iceberg, and iceberg videos as a whole.
Despite being an unfun level, Wet Dry World really has the closest aura to the infamous N64 betas we always hear about I mean literally having elements of the Zelda 64 beta is strange enough but all the stuff combined makes it feel the most likely what we imagine a beta level to look like, I guess Has a dreamlike quality to it. Great video
You found it "unfun"? Literally my favourite course in the game. :D It's feels more unique compared to the kind of repetitive gameplay otherwise in this game.
about Dori, there’s actually a tip in the official SM64 strategy guide that says “Don’t believe the sign” when referring to the “Don’t become his lunch.” part, so it definitely was meant to scare you
29:28 The "brain diagram" claim goes back several years in 4chan threads. Some years ago, there were threads about uncanny lonesome feelings in early 3D games, with games like Glover, the original Spyro games, and (of course) Super Mario 64 being brought up. Wet Dry World in particular was a notable alien-feeling level, and at one point in these repeating threads someone claimed that they once clipped out of bounds in the level and saw an image of a human pineal gland somewhere outside of the waterlogged tunnel. This oddity circulated Super Mario 64 threads for a while, and it was kind of irrelevant for a while until the iceberg threads were gaining traction in recent times.
Alright someone tell me what the fuck is up with all these theories. I remember my friends telling me that the grate outside in the front of the castle could be smashed through after the end of the game on the DS version as Wario, letting you fight Bowser again to unlock Peach as a playable character. Playing this game with no ability for myself to use Wifi or the internet, I had to experience all this weirdness myself and with people at school, and years later I look back on the game thinking about the game's mysteries and what's real and what wasn't and what was discovered and what wasn't lol
@@mantha6912 I was wondering the same thing but then I thought about how icebergs are much bigger under the water and are found in very deep and dark oceans especially the bottom of them so that might be why. There's not much at the surface but there is much more under it, and the stuff you find down there become more and more creepy and suspicious as you "climb down the iceberg" until you reach the very bottom and by then you're in the deep dark part of the ocean, as if there's an abyss below the iceberg and discover things dark enough to make you question the topic's existence
5:14 Regarding "don't become his lunch", here's the original Japanese: おとなしい かいりゅう ドッシーが すんでます せなかでヒップドロップを すると、あたまをさげます。 エサにならないでください。 which I could try to "directly" translate as: A peaceful sea dragon "Doshy" lives here. If you do a ground pound on its back, it will lower its head. Please don't become its food. The last line is probably kind of a riff on a more common phrase エサをあげないでください meaning "please don't give it food" (i.e. the kind of sign you might see in a nature park or a zoo, telling you not to feed the animals). The one in SM64 is read "esa ni naranaide kudasai" while the one I wrote just now is "esa wo agenaide kudasai" so they sound kind of similar.
My theory about the "broken paintings" is that you, as the player are supposed to recall what paintings you have already jumped into, therefore testing your memory when you make it to the upper floor of the castle.
Toad Projection ties in with the "in the walls" theory. The theory states that because the toads are more transparent the further you get away from them, they're actually holograms while the REAL toads are in the walls... I think
Even as a kid I thought it weird how they are translucent when you are far from them, so yeah, maybe they are projecting themselves directly into Mario's mind to communicate.
I always thought that the Toads were magically trapped inside the walls and their transparent appearances were supposed to be indicating they were projecting outside the walls to talk with you, I'm surprised a lot of people didn't come to the same conclusion.
No joke, whenever I got to Wet Dry World after playing for a while, I’d always either have a really bad headache already or get one after a few minutes of playing the level. This happened 9 times out of 10. Probably just a coincidence, but... that’s where the negative aura comes from for me.
I'd just suddenly get really bad at the game. My hands would get shakey and whatnot. Whenever I exited the level and went to bomb-omb battlefield to listen to the music to calm myself down I would suddenly get a lot better.
When Mish Koz talked about “Peach is behind the stained glass window”, that brought me back to a dream I had when I was 6, in the dream, I thought of peach behind the stained glass window, cornered by bowser, and Mario tried doing a BLG in there, such a creepy nostalgic dream
The "every copy is personalized" thing can be easily explained. Know why you don't feel right playing other people's copies? Because they're not your saves and you don't really care about progressing on someone elses copy...
as the creator of most of the lore bits for the iceberg (whomp's fortress 1-up collective conciousness, wario apparition, wet dry world is a functioning digital simulacrum of the human brain, etc.) cool video. i love the wario land music
Can you please give me some more information on the Bowser room, all I know is that you can fight one of the koopalings, and if you fail and not turn the n64 off quick enough you black out and end up in the hospital.
21:27 Damn it, this is so true. The moment this came up I could relate immediately with the feeling. There is something about the level design and the atmosphere that is somewhat draining and depressing. Personally I feel at least one of the reasons is the existence of a town underwater, completely boxed in and with no one living in there. The skybox featuring a lot of houses makes you think this is a world with endless towns like this. It is somewhat unnerving.
I think it's just because it's really hard and really weird that makes it uncormftable, also every feature this guy said in the video is actually true, the combination of all of them is what makes it uncormftable to play, I remember having headaches as a kid when playing that level. Also I never knew there was a hidden town in the 64 version, I thought was exclusive for 64ds since you need to use luigi in order to enter there
Along with every other thing that was unsettling it always creeped me out that there was a town with no life and that the water level was important. Its always confused me because as a kid I loved that level as much as a dreaded going to it out of fear (?) or something...

"Your friends are trapped within' the walls", is just another way of saying, "Your friends are trapped in the castle". I don't think Bowser meant they were literally in the walls.
Bro! You aren't overanalyzing like a normal person. Shame on you! :)
The ghostly toads who are never more than a foot from any wall and materialize into being when you speak to them aren't supposed to be stuck in the walls?
probably not perfectly translated
did any boy see smile dog on 20:37
Except the first Toad says they're trapped INSIDE the walls.
I don't think the Toads are literally walled-in, nor do I think they're simply unable to leave the castle. That very same Toad says the following:
"The Princess...and I...and, well, everybody...we're all trapped inside the castle walls. Bowser has stolen the castle's Stars, and he's using their power to create his own world in the paintings and walls."
I think by "trapped inside/within the walls", they mean they're trapped in the pocket dimensions Bowser made, which are accessed via the paintings in the walls.

Disturbing.
Wet Dry World's drowned town is just the New Londo beta
@@SecretEccentric Why does this make so much sense
You can’t get out. Just like the citizens of the town
I never really thought of it as disturbing or negative, I don't know for some reason it reminds me of a bathroom? lol

I have some input on the WDW negative aura:
Since the entire thing is a village, and as you said earlier, Mario is the only human that enters these worlds, it may be a sort of autophobia (fear of isolation) causing that negative aura.
I like this theory
The little isolated village always reminded me of one of those 'prop towns' that were used in desert areas when they'd test atomic bombs way back when. Always found that area a bit unsettling, as I used to think Bowser drowned the Toads who might have once lived there.
At least it's slightly better in the DS version, a Bob-omb buddy can be found at the top to assist with finding red coins.

It’s been proven (not by actually shrinking someone but by how light works) that if a human were to shrink down to a microscopic size, their eyes would perceive things MUCH darker because there is less light absorbed from the perspective of smaller eyes.

@@MishKoz So all those are Mario.
Those sounds were voiced from Mario himself.
My guess for “toad projection”: toads only render when you get close to them, and it looks like they fade into view, so it looks like they’re projected holograms?
from Urban Dictionary, Projection means "An unconscious self-defense mechanism characterized by a person unconsciously attributing their own issues onto someone or something else as a form of delusion and denial." The toads were projecting onto Mario with their messages.
i think it's because they're trapped in the walls and floors, so they fade back into the walls as you approach

I don’t know if this is true, but I’ve heard that the “walk quietly in the hallway” sign is actually a hint so you have a chance to hear the clock ticking from Tick Tock Clock
That’d be really clever

Omg spread this ppl that shit true
I probably would have cut it from the game. It makes you feel very alone, I definitely get what he means by wanting to stop when you get to that level.
Maybe that was the whole idea, that it was lifeless.
always gave me so much anxiety as a kid and even now!
it reminds me of this weird dream i’ve had as a kid, and now that i think about it, it’s kind of recurring. but for some reason, i want to be there. i’ve always been attracted to water and the color blue, so that level makes me feel somewhat comforted but it’s also off putting at the same time. it reminds me of a dream where there’s just no one to talk to and it’s just you there, alone, yet you feel at ease. maybe that’s what death is like.
Thanks

I thought the music was midi and the boo laugh was a sound effect?

The interesting thing about the sound itself is that it came from a stock audio library so it was pure coincidence that it actually was the voice of Charles Martinet

Also I never knew there was a hidden town in the 64 version, I thought was exclusive for 64ds since you need to use luigi in order to enter there
Preach. This level makes me very unnerved, disturbed and very jumpy. As a kid i could never play this alone
I thought I was the only one who felt this lol
Along with every other thing that was unsettling it always creeped me out that there was a town with no life and that the water level was important. Its always confused me because as a kid I loved that level as much as a dreaded going to it out of fear (?) or something...
I remember during chuggaconroys play through of ds he expressed the same feelings as well
“Toads are objects” something about that is so insulting and hilarious
Hey just like women...
@CarnelJr Faulkner it's a joke
Toads are like one of those annoying kids toys, they say the same things over and over and they are just a nuisance.
