At around 14:00, I was getting pretty tired of there being little to no sound. So I brought up another tab and fired up the main map screen music from Link: the Faces of Evil. About 3 minutes later, TH-cam's "Fabulous" new autoplay feature loaded the next video in the suggestions: "Link: the Faces of Evil ALL cutscenes."
So here I'm watching Vinny's snoozefest of a time trying in vain to work the RTC, when suddenly in the other tab:
"Gee, it sure is boring around here."

I love when Twitch Notifications take a break from all their HARD work. Missing Vinny streams is always fun.

Anyway, Vinesauce streamers post to @Vinesauce moments before they start streaming, and is actually probably more accurate than any Twitch notification since you'll get advance notice before they even go online.

The music is horrible because it's running Mario 64 Audio Lists (compact bytecode programs, a la MIDI), using Mario 64's instrument bank. Would be a pretty easy fix...

"pretty easy fix" my ass. replacing instruments is one of the most advanced parts of SM64 hacking, and that was in 2015, when it was nearly impossible. and by that I mean, it had literally never been done.

I want to see a corruptor that learns. Hear me out: For each ROM, the corruptor would keep track of which segments of the ROM it attempts to corrupt, and if a corruption results in a crash, it would slightly lower the relative probability that it will corrupt those parts in the future. Over time, in theory, the corruptor would become less likely to modify sensitive parts of the ROM that cause crashes if changed, and so it would produce fewer crashes for that ROM. That's my basic idea; it might be improvable with more advanced heuristics for identifying combinations of changes that often cause crashes, etc. Or maybe it's just infeasible altogether (due to, for instance, the amount of storage space it would take to save the weighting info). It's an idea, that's all.
+Spade ASF 24 Of course the corruption depends on the byte value, but irrespective of that, certain segments of a given ROM are more likely than others to cause crashes upon modification. Some parts contain sprite/tile data, or music, or level layout data, and could probably be modified at random relatively safely. Even among the data that makes up the game's actual code, some sections might contain routines that are imperative to keep the game functioning; these would cause crashes frequently when they are modified, and a learning algorithm would ideally learn to avoid those sections when applying corruption.
Obviously the algorithm wouldn't reliably be able to determine on its own when a game has crashed (due to the halting problem if nothing else), so perhaps the person operating the corruptor would have a button they'd press when the previously generated corruption crashes or does something undesirable in general; that button press would cue the corruptor to turn down the weights of the addresses it had changed that time around. Over a large number of trials, the addresses involved in the most crashes would come to have the lowest weights, and so would be modified the least often.
This is fucking awesome! Even though it was five years ago, I still want to see something like this!

He ended up doing a really good job with this.
The music was because Mario 64's soundfont is different from Ocarina of Time, so when the midi is imported, it won't sound the same as the original.

The music is that way because the game still uses the Super Mario 64 audio files, but with a Kokiri forest midi, so it plays the song using the instruments you would hear in Super mario 64.

How come you didn't try to leave the forest? I'm curious as to what kinds of shenanigans would happen in Hyrule Field...

I think there's something Vinny doesn't understand with this mod - Kaze made the Ocarina of Time music by using the music effects from Super Mario 64 -- that's why it sounds "bad" or "wrong" to Vinny... but I actually think Kaze did a great job.
