- Today’s video…is more of a discussion of sorts about some details I’ve been reading about a specific character from the Scream franchise. Now, since Scream 1996, and with the current resurgence of the franchise, there’s an active community who are very open about the fact that they believe Stu Macher, who was a killer in Scream (1996), is actually alive. I’m very open about how… I don’t think Stu is alive, personally. However, from my research, the draft readings and so forth I’ve been doing on this channel, it seems there IS evidence to support that Stu remaining alive was something that Kevin Williamson originally intended on, and this goes way beyond his original draft for Scream 3.

I think they still could have brought Stu back in Scream 3, without him being the killer. In Scream 3 the killer keeps leaving photos of Maureen Prescott, along with the message that ‘I killed her’ So, instead of the crew getting that lame video from Randy, Sidney and Gale could’ve travelled to the state prison, where it’s revealed that Stu is still alive and incarcerated. They could’ve then questioned him about the photos and gotten the ‘concluding chapter of a trilogy’ schpeal from HIM. So, Scream 3 would’ve revealed Stu to still be alive. That way, if they wanted to use him again down the road in another sequel, he would, canonically, still be available.
The fact is stu never got his final scare
the secondary ghostface’s don’t get a final scare. most of the masterminds behind the ghostface killings get a final scare. ex. billy, roman, and jill. mickey and amber were exceptions as they executed most of the kills in their movies. but since billy was the final scare and has a long lasting effect in the franchise, stu didn’t get his and still doesn’t deserve it

@@infantkiller64 i meant like amber was more in action underneath the mask. most of the attacks and kills were amber. richie only ever did mindy and sam’s attacks plus wes and vince’s kills. neither were masterminds as well as they seemed equal in idea and execution but amber being the final scare makes sense as she was the prominent ghostface here. and more ruthless as well plus sam confirming richie let amber take most of the action in 6 proves this

He should have been the one who killed them
Even though his death was changed. I remember how heavy the old TV sets after all Scream 3 was also to have Randy Meeks alive instead on tape Wes Craven felt that would confuse audiences. Often it best not to bring back a character who died. As the Scream films as a whole the killers die in every single film. Least we not forgot Stu in this case was submissive as Billy was the dominant one. This happen in real life when dealing with 2 killers aka thrill killers. And it's pretty self evidence if your reading the dialogue from the script Stu was a sociopath and Billy was a complete psychopath.
it's the other way around: Billy was the sociopath (as sociopath's get off on manipulation) where Stu was the psychopath (as, like Norman Bates, psychos are lost to their pathology and can no longer distinguish imagination from reality). Ed Gein was a psychopath, in that he never realized what he was doing was wrong. Even when the cops came over, he never put up a fight.

Yes it would've confirmed his fate... if this were the script chosen. Because it isn't confirmed judging by the current Scream 1996 script it still leaves room for Stu in Scream 7. Though i am not completely sure if i want him in it or not, but either way it would be awesome.
the little nod in 6 leaves his return open to happen. Feel like it would've been better to do in 5 or 6 and doing it now would just feel cheap and lazy

Stu’s hands were up to brace the fall of the tv. The tv wasn’t sitting up that high. In fact, I don’t think it was up high enough for it to shatter the screen when it fell, but I digress. Fast forward to S4, if getting a zoll shock on max to both temples didn’t electrocute Jill, then I don’t think there was enough juice in that broken tv to kill Stu. Yes, box tv’s back then were heavy, but as I said, it was on a tv stand that came to about Randy’s waist, right? I just looked at a pic and the base of the tv sat below his hips, like maybe upper thigh level, so it didn’t have far to fall at all, therefore less time to pick up force to cause more damage. To me, if Stu died at all, and I don’t think he did, he died from bleeding out from stab wounds. But like I said, I believe he is alive … why does no one know in the movies? Even Mindy says, “if you believe he is dead”…. If he was really dead, wouldn’t they have made mention of it? They never really mention Stu until the requels. I believe Stu is alive and I think he killed Dewey… I just don’t see how Amber had the physical strength to do it. I think he’s been the master mind of all the events of the requels and it will be revealed in S7, just like Roman was revealed as the mastermind in S3 (since the new movies are mirroring the original 3- makes perfect sense)
I agree with nearly everything here, although when it comes to Stu being brought up in the new movies, I feel as though they're doing that to only hype up a *possible* "return" that likely won't end up happening. They could be just trying to make fun of the theorists who believe he may still be alive. I would like for him to come back, as hes my favorite character, but if it doesn't occur in 7, I wouldn't expect it to ever happen.
Not to mention that the TV fell onto his chest first, then landed partly on his head, which means, that his chest would have taken most of the force from the fall, which is why it's even more likely, he survived.
In the original script for Scream, Stu and Billy were shot in the head. It was ONLY changed because Craven didn't want both killers to die in the same way. He wanted Stu to have a more creative death (which he confirmed on the commentary). There were absolutely no plans to bring Stu back in any way. He also didn't plan a trilogy. The plan to bring back Stu for Scream 3 only happened AFTER Scream 2 was changed. Originally Sidney died in Scream 2. However, since she actually survived in the version we got, Williamson had the idea to bring Stu back for Scream 3. It wasn't until AFTER Scream 2 was made that Williamson thought it could be a trilogy. I've seen a number of interviews where Williamson says he had no intention of doing a trilogy. He had the script for Scream (Scary Movie at the time) and about a 5 page treatment for Scream 2 (Scary Movie 2). After the success of Scream 2, that's when Williamson realized it could be a trilogy.
This is based on interviews with Kevin Williamson, Wes Craven, Bob Weinstein, Cathy Conrad, and Marianne Maddalena. So take it up with them if you don't believe it.

It would be easy to bring Stu back really. Look what they have done with Dewey before and now Chad. Stu's parents had money, they could have faked his death. They have ties to the sheriff and he helps them fake his death with a John Doe body and any loose ends can be tied up with pay offs. They get Stu into a hospital under a fake name to get him healed from all his wounds(maybe even mental health). Then you can bring Stu back.
How could they fake his death? His parents were out of town when everything happened. He was stabbed and Sidney dropped the tv on his face. How could he get out from under the tv, replace his body with another, and sneak away without anyone noticing? Sidney, Neil, Gale, and Randy were all in the house until the police showed up. There's no way Stu could do all of that without being seen/heard even if he had help.
The way chad has been saved in two movies now, made me audibly groan out loud in the Cinema. It's physically impossible. He got double penetrated by two Ghostfaces and stabbed over 15 time and somehow still survived, yet Samarah Weaving's character takes 1 or two hits to the chest and killed off in the first 5 minutes. I hate his character arc. We have enough jock moron's in cinema and everyone know's Tara is a Lesbian who was dating Amber originally so to see the writers not only make her straight but a generic female who falls for a sport's douche fucked me all the way up

@@KoltVEVO People IN REAL LIFE have survived much worse than Chad. The difference is Chad was seen alive at the end of each movie. Not the case with Stu. They would have to come up with something really stupid and convoluted to say he survived and escaped without anyone noticing. Besides, these new filmmakers agree that Stu is dead. They literally say so in Scream 6.
@@Joker_JAK well for one, I said the sheriff was involved, he could have easily covered up if he was still alive. And to quote you People IN REAL LIFE have survived much worse than Stu did. The TV would have shocked him but also came unplugged, therefore shocked him but not completely fry him, and the stab wound hell didn't Dewey survive multiple times. So yes there is a chance he survived and it was covered up. Trust me with this franchise (Which I Love) this would not be the craziest thing to happen.

@@johndlcklk1489 Craven was vehemently against retconning deaths. He felt death needs to matter in these movies. If they start bringing people back then that lessens the impact when anyone "dies" because they could just come back. People already bitch like little babies about how Chad survived Scream 6, but it would he worse if they started resurrecting dead characters.

What kind of motive will the next killer even have that hasn’t been used over and over again? In my opinion bring back Stu will at least give some excitement IF they manage to do it right.

Once again a great video. Thank you. It seems like Kevin Williamson has kept the option of Stu's return open. However, I haven't read the original script but I think he changed it just to avoid repetition. I mean, how did Billy die? With a bullet to his head.
It was actually Craven who changed it. In Williamson's script, both get shot in the head. Craven didn't want both killers to die in the same way. He wanted Stu to have a more creative death. So he changed it to the tv killing him.
I agree. I think it was done to make their deaths different which was a good choice. I don’t think at that point they thought of Stu possible being alive for the sequels
I might be in the minority but I always wanted a Stu leading the legion type end scenario. It might be the perfect way to say goodbye to the legacy cast?

It could also be that it felt repetitive to have both Billie and Stu getting shot in the forehead and wanted to keep that last moment for Billie's final scare

When The Following was on, I watched it for clues - since it really is the scream 3 plot - and what I gathered at the time was that Stu would’ve been in some type of prison/hosptial/mental ward. He would have been pulling the strings from there. Now how KW was gonna make it where no one knew Stu was alive is a question that I think led to them changing course with KW’s outline. Plus the whole cult aspect. It was too close to the trench coat mafia everyone was sooo worried at the time about after Colombine.
I agree. I would have been OK with Stu being alive if somebody had said in Scream 2 Oh he got life in prison. Done. He can either escape in a later Scream or like the plan for 3 he could have disciples like in the Following. Either of those would have worked. [SPOILERS FOR 6]
I didn't buy the person we thought was dead was alive reveal because I don't think it could be pulled off and I didn't buy that a different character with a particular profession could fake their identity. IF they say Stu just faked his death I won't buy it. Too many people would have to coordinate him not being arrested and/or faking his death after getting medical attention. Can't be done. If he is alive they should have said in a previous Scream that he escaped from the hospital and nobody knows where he is but the police put all points bulletin out on him, not that SOME people think he's alive.
If you go into the Friday the 13th out takes you know the one with Tommy as a child the stunt man actually did get a plugged in computer monitor to the head which is just a TV and he survive just fine

I'd like to know where you found this script. Because I've seen and read interviews with Kevin Williamson and he's said on multiple occassions that the first draft he wrote for Scream wasn't changed. Wes Craven said the same thing and said it was a big deal because that's practically unheard of.
I feel like Stu has become to the Scream franchise what Dr Gordon was to the Saw franchise.
Stu's death by TV may be a homage to Mother's Day or Henry.
And it'd be nice to see on this channel videos discussing the movies that Scream ripped off, like EVIL LAUGH and THERE'S NOTHING OUT THERE.
Always felt the tv death being a bit of a turnabout of movies creating killers then the tv killing the killer was a bit of fun for them to kill someone off like that

4:50 the problem with this is that the script doesn't specify whether Sidney shot Billy or Stu in the forehead. Does it say if she shoots the other person as well? Just going by this, she only shoots one person.
The entire Scream 2 Script written by Kevin Williamson can be read on internet movie script database with the unchanged ending we all know why the entire movie was changed as the script was leaked only the ending to the film was leaked. Fangoria did a interview with Wes Craven who was asked why Kevin Williamson wasn't the writer for Scream 3 I'm going to paraphrase Wes here in the interview he admits that quote Kevin wrote 5 page outline/treatment for Scream 3 he was unable to write an entire script however Dimension studio did not want to wait around for Kevin so they hired Ehren Kruger to write the script and while we all know how troubled the production was for 3rd film there was decoy drafts none of the actors and actress who got different pages of script knew which one was real.

I think it was a great discussion too remove the shot too the head, I think writing stu back into scream 3 would've worked and it can still work if they decide to do it in scream 7. So what they can do is have an infinite amount of screams all over the city killing and throughout the movie the screams go too this abdomend house and in the basement is stu and he's in a hospital bed and the other screams are taking care of him nursing him back to health. Then when he's 100 percent he gets his scream costume and mask. And sets out to get Gail weathers or Sydney Prescott if she ever decides too return and them kill them or they kill stu for good once in for all I think that would be a great way too bring stu back.

I would like to see if anyone who thinks this theory is true can survive entire TV falling on their head (and not the modern pancake one but the chunky 90’s version) I know SCREAM franchise has some weird moments of surviving (like Chad both times) but it’s for the comedic side so I can understand that but this is different.
Chad surviving was completely ridiculous especially in the last one where they stabbed him countless times throughout his whole torso smh and then his sister showing up at the end like she didn't have a knife in her stomach just a few hours ago.. like the hospital just stitched her up and sent her on her way. Terrible ending with no true severity or loss. Just meanings kills ( or better yet, no kills )

1. The TV fell only two feet down (it wasn't up that high as seen in earlier scenes. It's at the height of Randy's thighs), so it couldn't build up much force on it's fall.
2. Stu had his arms raised for impact, which would have enabled him to slow down the TV a bit and take some of the force away
3. Watch the scene and how the TV falls. You can clearly see it falls onto Stu's chest first, then it tips over onto Stu's head much slower than the fall was. So his chest would have taken most of the force and we all know how strong the ribcage is. So if he has no damage to the ribcage, then his head is fine as well.
4. He did still breath and groan after the electricity was gone. A dead body would do neither.
So he could have survived. And for the police not knowing about his survival, there could be multible factors. People were thought to be dead, even if they were still alive, for example people in a long time coma, no one beleiving they would wake up again, after their condition didn't change for over a decade.
Or the once treating Stu could have been paid by his parents to cover up his survival.
Who knows?
Stu is dead. But it's very interesting that KW removed that headshot.

I personally believe Stu is alive. 100% he sustained an injury to the head. However Stu’s parents are one of the richest families in Woodsboro. His family could have had connections and paid off the police and the corners. Paid for Stu to have cosmetic surgery and he could be living amongst everyone in Woodsboro without them even knowing. Also you don’t hear much about Leslie and what she is up to. You only hear that her son , Stu’s nephew Vince was killed. Who knows maybe Leslie and Stu are plotting their revenge and will be back in Scream 7.
Like Randy says “Forget everything you think you know about the past. Because it will go back to the beginning and you will find out what you think is true isn’t.”
With the Scream franchise never say never. I never thought they would kill Dewy off and that happened in Scream 5. 🤷🏼♀️

Also watch the TV scene at a slower speed, then you can see that the TV first lands on the chest before tipping over onto the head at a slower speed. If we also take the height of the fall and the for impact raised arms into account, then the chances for Stu's survival are very high.

First i was against stu returning because i felt he wouldnt have a real motive. But then i remember he didnt have one in scream 1. Billy did & stu just followed along. " Peer pressure Im way too sensitive"📞
He doesn't really need one. This IS based on Halloween where Michael Myers initially had no motive. He was just going around doing random things and killing at random.
LOL we clearly didn't watch the same movie. Stu is in love with Billy! That's why he didn't have no problem getting rid of Tatum and the Actor who play's stu has even said himself that he played the role as if he was secretly in Love with billy, hence all the homoerotic body contact, and how he constantly has his arms wrapped around billy, from the scene in the movie store where they taunt randy, to the final scene where billy stab's him.

Is it to much to ask for ghost ace to win once in a trilogy?! Make it actually worth while to see what happens in the sequel! I would be on the edge of my seat waiting to see how the previous killers would handle being hunted by the new one!
Thats actually what I wanted in Scream 4, I wanted that film to end when Jill is getting all the paparazzi taking pics of her as being the "survivor" then with the 5th film continuing from there. Would of been dope, but still loved the film. But yeah, would of been cool to see ghostface get a win in a film, unpredictable. Really thought thats what was happening in 4.

I can get behind the bleeding to death. I can get behind electrocution, I can sort of get behind a 90’s tv being pushed on your head so hard that it smashes the screen. Put them all together, I just can’t do it. Plus in six Ethan dies by the same tv. So in my mind either both are dead or both are alive. I love Matthew Lillard, but he’d be so brain dead if he survived.
But the circumstances between Stu's final scene and Ethan's death are different.
1. The height: in Scream the TV fell around two feet down (we saw the height of the TV stand in previous scenes, it was around thigh-height). In Scream 6 it fell from much heigher and could therefore build much more force and therefore cause more damage.
2. How the TV hits: in Stu's case the TV hits his chest first, then tips over (slower) onto his forehead, which means his ribcage would take most of the damage and ribcages are very strong. Ethan got the whole force onto the back of his head, and the back of the head is very vulnerable to hits.
3. Stu also had his arms raised for impact and could slow the TV down a little bit, before it hit his chest. Ethan couldn't even react, before it hit him on the head.
Also Jill survived a deffibrilator to the brain and was only killed by a bullet to the heart. And a defi has much more power than a 90's TV (which also got unplugged through the fall).
Also no dead body breaths or groans. Stu did both when Sidney left the living room, which indicates that he survived both the TV and the electricity. So if Dewey survived his stab wound then Stu was likely still alive, when the medics and police came to the Macher's house.
It's easier to fake medical documents, than to switch bodys. Maybe Stu's parents paid the medics to cover up his survival, having them tell that Stu died because of blood loss. Or maybe he fell into a over a decade long coma and the world wrote him off as dead, since his condition didn't change for decades.
Things like this have happened in real life. Everyone believing them to be dead, only for the person in question to wake up after over 20 years of giving no signs to ever wake up again.

I remember people thinking Stu was still alive, because he sighed after being electrocuted. Either way, he could have been decapitated, I’m sure fans would’ve still been sure he was still alive 😂

Considering how taking Stu off of 3 was a choice forced by real life circumstances whereas taking the bullet out was Kevin's specific choice, we can assume Stu IS alive in-universe and he just wasn't used. I don't even care about whether he WILL be used at this point. He's alive, and that's a fact. Dewey even says in 5 that you can't be sure a Ghostface is dead unless you shoot them in the head. Hell, Ethan might as well be alive too given how he wasn't completely killed either, and Jill too.
What has me frustrated though is why there's also an opposite group of people who have to always pipe in and say "He CaN't Be AlIve He'S cLeArLy DeAd" and basically be party poopers. If he shows up he shows up, if he doesn't then he doesn't. Why ruin the fun for everyone else? I'm not talking about you, I'm talking about all the people who treat those of us who want Stu back with a sense of superiority like they're better than us for having a character we love that isn't definitely confirmed to be dead. And when they try using a logical reasoning that's when it falls apart. Amber was stabbed, shot and burnt alive and she still managed to come back for a last attempt. Dewey should've died 4 times, and Chad should've died twice by now, and that goes for Kirby too. But also, I never saw anyone complaining about how unrealistic the way Tatum died is. There is literally no way a garage door wouldn't break or stop working while trying to lift an entire person, as much of a lightweight as Tatum was. As for how Stu can be brought back... all it takes is imagination. My point being, Scream is inherenrly not a realistic franchise, just like any slasher franchise never was. If Halloween was realistic, Michael Myers would've died in the first movie, or he sure as hell would've died in Halloween 2018 or Halloween Kills.
Slight correction: Williamson isn't the one who changed Stu's death. Craven changed it because he wanted Stu to have a more creative death. So, in-universe, Stu absolutely died. Unused ideas (Scream 3) are not canon.

I agree! I personally would love to see Stu make a return in scream 7. I feel they’ve hinted at it several times and left it open for debate. I’m scream 6 Kirby said “that’s the tv that killed stu” and mindy said “yeah if you believe he’s dead” and I just felt like that was foreshadowing. Who knows, but I’d love to see it be true!!

I can see now how it all would've fitted together if Scream 3 had gone by it's original outline.
Scream: Stu witnesses Billy's 'death' then survives the TV drop on his own head. His family keep him in prison in secret.
Scream 2: Mickey and Debbie reveal about their revenge plot and how they met on a twisted site.
Scream 3: Stu, in prison, reveals that he is the one who set the site up and has got thousands of Ghostface cults and followers across the internet therefore stating that wherever Sidney goes, Ghostface will follow.
The only problem is that Williamson didn't have the idea to bring Stu back until AFTER Scream 2 was made. Sidney was part of his idea for Scream 3 if Stu returned. However, in his original script for Scream 2 Sidney died.

I think Kevin Williamson originally intended for Stu Macher to die in the first Scream, regardless of what anyone says because if he really wanted to bring Stu back in the third movie, they would have mentioned Stu surviving and getting away in the second movie. I also think if Stu was alive, he would of shown himself as Ghostface 4 Screams ago. Accuracy is key when writing a trilogy. Stu is dead. That is all.

Radio Silence stated in an interview that they had Kirby kill Ethan with the same tv that killed Stu to show that Stu is definitely dead.

I love Scream and most of the sequels are excellent but if they ever indulge in this fan fantasy, I’ll be done with this series. I mean, this doesn't really do much when it comes to his fate because the shot to the head makes sense if he was only struck with a VCR. If he's hit with a TV set, then there's really no need to have the shot to the head in there because the TV set is rather definite for a demise. Also, Scream 3 was written way down the line so Kevin was only able to bring him back because of how he thought he could get around the actual demise. It wasn't like he changed the ending to this movie because he knew he would bring Stu back and if he did, we certainly wouldn't have seen him get a TV smashed on his head. I could see him leaving the VCR moment in there and just took out him getting shot.
So sad what's happened to the Scream community and what they've allowed themselves to become. They're so deluded feeling Stu & Jill is still alive. They don't care how much time has passed or how ridiculous it sounds. They just ignore reality and convince themselves they can't be dead and only want them alive, so it can justify their feelings.

Stu’s fate however is up in the air, people seem to have forgotten that Stu put his hands up just before the tv landed on him so I would say that cushioned the blow a bit. As for the electrocution, many people have survived much worse than that hell people have survived being struck by lightning so Stu surviving isn’t really that impossible.

So they didn't do anything to set up a future plot point or reveal. They went out of their way to create a crime scene photo depicting Stu's death. Why would they spend the time and money to do that, without any idea they'd make another film, if they thought he was still alive? They wouldn't. Besides, they confirmed Stu's death in Scream 6 several times.

Like i said there are plenty of real like circumstances where the same thing can happen to two different people and one will survive and the other won’t so I don’t think it’s to hard to imagine that it could easily happen in movies especially considering what multiple characters in the franchise have already survived.

I don't care how "plausible" the explanation is that they could come up with. Craven was absolutely against retconning deaths and so am I.
