A very comprehensive walkthrough mate. Thank you for your efforts. Your first video guiding the install i found the most thorough and informative out there. The headunit is surprisingly quite snappy. However I found the stock user interface horribly dated and limiting for customization. I ended up installing nova launcher as the default home screen launcher and its mint 👌 Now it really feels like I have a tablet as a headunit. The experience I was after. Would recommend for anyone wanting to spice it up a little. The beauty of android.
How did you get Nova to be your default launcher? I have been using Nova for years on my phone and I downloaded it on the head unit and couldn't figure out how to make it the default.
Great Video! One of the better ones out there on how to install and operate this Head Unit. Although, idoing customer service was quite responsive, they done a disservice to their customers by not providing hard copy or pdf written instructions.
Something to note is that unlike when you turn the car on/off, when you reboot from the HU your time/date will be reset. I am not sure if other settings get reset, but they might. Nothing too crazy, but there is a difference.
I have to say man, coming from a Daisata headunit, the Idoing is 100 times better. I'm running JL Audio in mine, and it sounds amazing. Haven't connected the amps yet.
I've had this unit in my Forester for over a year and I love it. Everything works well, no problems connecting to my iPhone for music, maps, etc. and the steering wheel controls worked automatically. I am also running a 4 ch amp with no issues. The unit turns on automatically with the car ignition...is there a way to disable this and have it manual on/off?
Hey man I love your videos they're super informative and great for people just getting into Subarus! I just got my first wrx a couple months ago and I'm dying to upgrade the radio. The wrx has the worst factory audio of any car I've owned surprisingly as it's the best car I've owned since my rx7. Looking at purchasing this idoing head unit but, I want to know the pre-amp output voltage for the front, rear, and Sub outputs. I've looked on their website for the spec sheet but it doesn't have this info. When setting gains for amplifiers it's important to know what this is (most head units range from 2v-5v some cheap units even less). I know I can check this with a multimeter from the rca jacks while the unit is installed and on and I always verify the voltage before setting my gains but I prefer to know these things before I buy a head unit. Audio is always a big part of all my cars and I typically use Kenwood or Pioneer (who always have these specs on their website) but the plug and play ability to retain steering wheel controls without having to purchase additional devices and do extra wiring with the idoing is very appealing. Any chance you know what the preamp output voltage is?
Question, Do the Climate Controls still display on the HU when changed? On my wrx the climate controls display on the stock HU and I would like to retain that functionality. Thanks~!
Hey Angel, just subscribed to your channel... all of your videos are very informative and I really appreciate that! I've heard these HU do not except aftermarket amps, is that accurate?
Great videos and very informative for those that are thinking about purchasing one. I've had this same head unit for over a year in my 2017 Crosstrek and I love it. Unfortunately for my Crosstrek (non Harman system) I am stuck with the telematics which I have no use for. My dilemma is about connecting a 4 channel Amp for the door speakers, the harness that is included with the head unit only the sub output works using a Y splitter which I am currently using a JL Audio RD1000.1 to power two 15" kicker L7's but I really want to use my existing JL Audio RD400.4 for the door speakers . Do you plan on adding an Amp or two to your system?
Yeah I've had a similar issue with auto-connect. My old phone would connect immediately to my car... but my new one almost refuses to connect. I have to manually do it 2-3 times before they see eachother. ...
Hey thanks for this video watching this convinced me to purchase the radio . I do have a question for you does the subwoofer connections did it have 2 rca or only 1 rca connection i bought a radio from ali express it was great but the subwoofer rca was only 1 connection. I didn't like that cuz the subs sounded great but i wasn't really getting the true power of my subs. Can you help me out with this question thanks.
Not sure if you figured this out Idoing told me to get a Y splitter for the RCA sub outputs. Am waiting for that in the mail still but I'm trying to figure out why my factory aux port doesn't work with the unit lol
Has anyone figured out how to get the headunit to show data from the TMPS? My previous Kenwood did, so I would assume the data is getting to the iDoing.
Ok but a real question I need answered is.. is there any bluetooth lag or delay? If I watch a video on my phone, will it be in sync with the sound and image?
great walk though thanks. If you dont mind me asking is there a way to change the home screen to a different look, if so how? And how did you get your screen just to have the Subaru logo on start up and stay on your you tube logo?
Hi, I follow everything you did on my 2019 Subaru Forester. I stalled a Idoing head unit and everything seems to be working, but I received an email that my STARLINK may not be working. That it has the light on. Please advise. Thank you👍
I installed everything. Appreciate the videos, helped a ton! Only question I have is android auto is not widescreen. Is there a way I can get full screen android auto on this headunit? My interface and everything looks just like yours.
Does the dashboard display brightness knob affect the brightness of the head unit? Basically if you turn the lights on in the car will it automatically assume it's nighttime and go into lower brightness?
I got this for my corolla. Do you have plans on an updated video? maybe the features that you didnt mention in this video. Or any other cool features that you've been using since installing this. Or maybe just a headunit update and how its doing in these couple of months! Thanks!
How did you get your boot logo to show up everytime you turn your car on and off. I also have the same question as a previous user of how did you hook up your sub to this headunit. I bought this because I saw your video and so far in love
I wish this head unit came integrated with Sirius XM! Thats the only reason i havent bought it yet. I love having the Sirius xm lol is there a way to integrate it?
when you bought the head unit, did you choose the stock speaker or the harmon kardon version for aftermarket speakers? I plan on getting aftermarket speakers on my 2017 subaru wrx soon, what version should I choose?
Hello, do you know that I bought that radio and you have problems with bluetooth and connection with Android auto and Carplay, after turning the car off and on it does not recognize the phone's bluetooth again, do you know a solution?
I bought this headunit after seeing this video and got it installed. I like everything about it except call quality. Ran external mic supplied, this doesn’t disable the mic on the unit itself so both mics are active with 0 way to control volume or disable them so there’s massive echo and phone calls are basically a total no go. Honestly surprised there isn’t volume controls for mic or calls I don’t see how that’s not a deal breaker for most but when I contacted support they literally told me to desolder the internal mic. I think I can maybe address this in engineering settings but I can’t find a way into it. Anyone done this ?
the unit will work off the factory mic in a Subaru if you have one. there are volume controls for the mic and call volume. I don't have mine yet (its on the way) but ive seen it in another video.
I did the same, not noticing at first that the unit had a built in mic. I'm going to disconnect the external mic and see if that helps with the echo issue.
Was curious if you prefer this over a pioneer or aftermarket unit. I’ve been torn as I’ve always loved the pioneer units I put in my older vehicles but this is tempting.
I think I heard you correctly but I want to make sure. It has a high pass frequency or whatever it's called so if you have a subwoofer connected you can take away the subs from the door speakers freeing up the door speakers to sound better on the high frequencies right? I have a sub I want to install but I don't want the door speakers to kick bass too it sounds terrible like that. Thank you!!
Just wondering if you ever had any issues with Bluetooth not connecting to your phone every time? Like it will stay connected for a week then I’d have to reset Bluetooth and re link my phone to the unit.
Hey Boost, I installed my unit but am unable to see my oem backup camera lines. I have a '16 STI and can't figure out what happened. I have check the connections and it's sound. If you have an idea, it'd be great! Good videos!
How to set the HK canbus in factory settings? Idoing doesn't have any option to contact them thus zero customer support... issue I'm having is no sound in speakers; first install attemp back speakers worked but not the front then I watched your vid and realized I forgot to transfer the tel unit over but after installing it, now only my front windshield speakers are working not the back; all I conclude is that the canbus isn't set correctly or I have to go out of my way to install an Amp just to correct this flaw in the unit... how do I fix this without wasting money on an Amp install?
Thanks for this video! Very helpful! I just had mine installed recently with my complete audio upgrade. Could you give any information on activating a SIM card to the headunit? I reached out to my phone carrier (Verizon) and spoke with serval different people on a call that lasted over an hour. The answer was the same with all; that they could not activate a SIM card to the device. Should I look elsewhere to activate a SIM card so the device has running data? If so, do you have any recommendations for this issue? Any input is appreciated!
Will I lose my sport #/sport button functionality if I install this into my CVT Wrx? Or could it be programmed like you've shown on the video? I couldn't find any comprehensive information about it.
Thank you for the vid. I have a 2020 Sti and really want wireless carplay navigation. so over plugging my phone in all the time. Also the sound from the stock unit i s horrible. thanks for taking the time to and energy for this demonstration.. I'm thinking i will buy a this and also talk to Version for a sim card... Probably not that much a month. :)
Thanks dude, my idoing HU arrived yesterday. Now, how do I bypass the factory HK amp?? (it's blown)... I have a new 4 chan. amp to use in it's place and I'm going to pre-wire all the battery cable and grounds, just dont know exactly how to bypass the HK amp, it has a lot of wires in/out. I did buy the CAN-BUS adapter just in case I still needed in even though I plan on not using the HK. Yes all speakers are already upgraded to Kicker CS series and an 8" Comp C sub.
Hey brother thank you again for helping us all, I have a 2020 STI also and my question for you is, does the unit automatically dims when you turn on the lights of the car or when the car senses that is dark? I had a cheap android unit on my beater car and I regreted it cause at night I had to turn off the screen because it was too bright and does not dim like the factory unit did or to the level were it doesnt hurt the eyes when you are driving. Thank you again!
I have a question my sister purchased a car that looks very similar to the radio on this video. My question is, how can you remove the previous owner account from the head unit?
I put the same head unit in my 18’ WRX and now my drivers side door, window controls wont control the passenger side window. All the rest work and the controls work on the passenger side door. I just can’t control the window from the drivers side.
How do you change the wallpaper to a custom wallpaper? How do I get images onto the headunit to use for wallpapers? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
How smooth is the 'wireless android auto' experience? in my 2019 crosstrek, I plug in my phone physically, and Android auto just 'starts'. Switching wifi connections manually each time sounds like a huge pain (although I'm sure it could be automated). Is there a plug-in option for Android auto?
I installed one of those less than 70 bucks double din touch head units. My question is are units twice the price able to adjust brightness and contrast so it isn't too bright at night? And I have my lights wired to it, it tries to change but I suspect too cheap to really do a high resolution dark image
For navigation of your not using android auto or Apple play. And your using the navigation in the head unit do you need 4g for that or just using the Navi antenna?
Have you tried installing a 3rd party launcher? I own smart launcher since ive been an android user forever and im wondering if i could use such a launcher to customize the home screen.
Hi B&S..Installed my head unit thanks to your video. The few issues I ran into was the Wi-Fi kept turning off until I plugged the 4G antenna in. Now the issue I came across was the clarity is not very good for the reverse camera I can’t find any settings to adjust it assume it’s in the passcoded section. Any insight?
You may want to long press on the screen when you have it in reverse and you'll get settings for brightness, color and contrast. I turned my contrast down and it made a world of difference.
Iv just got mine. I'm connected via Bluetooth and WiFi so it says. But when I open and apps IE TH-cam it saying I'm not connected to the Internet? Any help woukd be much appreciated?
I installed the head unit but I have a problem, I only hear a single horn, I already checked the plugs and everything is connected, what could it be, thank you
Hey ,which model did you buy.. I have a 2020 wrx and see that their are multiple ootions.. Your link takes you to a Andriid 10 version.. but their is also a Px6 andriod 10 version.. Any insight on difference between the diff idoing models for the wrx.. Thank you & thank you for doing these videos. Extremely insightful
Get the PX6 with DSP. Make sure it has lots of RAM. I think 4G RAM but if you can find something higher the better. Also check what the processor is capable. Many of the android HU performance is affected by RAM and Processor.
Hi how are you , may I ask how come my new headunit doesn't show my messager message on the head??? My head unit has wifi+Bluetooth, but doesn't Have carplay and no android auto, I can connect Bluetooth or phone to the headunit but doesn't have messenger messeage thanks
Quick question, have you found out if you can do split screen on your Android auto? I have the dasaita vivid 10 and I have the split screen wireless android auto but am considering getting this headunit
@@manuelgironamaya I emailed and they said for copy right issues they locked the feature and won’t give out the passcode anymore (changed it) if you find something out please lmk.
I just installed my headunit about a month ago and now the left the power, home, back, volume up, and volume down buttons located on the left side are not working. Could someone please help me to figure out what is going on?
Just installed the unit in my 2017 forester. Everything works great, but for the life of me I can’t get the top part of the unit to go flush. Did anyone else have that problem?
Looking to possibly install this in my 2021 Sti (so glad I got one) and was wondering about SXM radio. I have a subscription and would want to carry that on. Does this unit support SXM and have you used it? Thanks. Keep the videos coming.
Just installed this on a base 2016 STI with stock sound system. The rear speakers don't work with this headunit and I checked the original and they worked there. Would getting the canbus adapter fix this?
Question for you, do you think it's necessary to screw back in the 2 10mm bolts that were a pain to get out on the bottom of the head unit, or is it safe to just leave them out for easier removal next time?
A very comprehensive walkthrough mate. Thank you for your efforts. Your first video guiding the install i found the most thorough and informative out there.
The headunit is surprisingly quite snappy. However I found the stock user interface horribly dated and limiting for customization. You came in clutch brotha man. Had my idoing head unit come in and all those wires threw me off. Your timely videos were clutch. Subscribed.
Glad I could help, welcome to the channel!
Did you order it right off of the idoing website?

In built microphone? Was there not a microphone that you connected in video 1?
Built in microphone??? The first video had a microphone that we need to connect no?

did you ever have any issues with connect the stock oem ports in the center consoles, or issues with the mic on phone calls with the headunit?
Hi B&S..Installed my head unit thanks to your video. The few issues I ran into was the Wi-Fi kept turning off until I plugged the 4G antenna in. Now the issue I came across was the clarity is not very good for the reverse camera I can’t find any settings to adjust it assume it’s in the passcoded section. Any insight?
Same here. Camera quality is worse than before :(
You may want to long press on the screen when you have it in reverse and you'll get settings for brightness, color and contrast. I turned my contrast down and it made a world of difference.
Iv just got mine. I'm connected via Bluetooth and WiFi so it says. But when I open and apps IE TH-cam it saying I'm not connected to the Internet? Any help woukd be much appreciated?
My carlink won’t connect any idea what the promblem is ?
I installed the head unit but I have a problem, I only hear a single horn, I already checked the plugs and everything is connected, what could it be, thank you
Hey ,which model did you buy..
I have a 2020 wrx and see that their are multiple ootions..
Your link takes you to a
Andriid 10 version.. but their is also a Px6 andriod 10 version..
Shout out from the STL
Hi how are you , may I ask how come my new headunit doesn't show my messager message on the head??? My head unit has wifi+Bluetooth, but doesn't Have carplay and no android auto, I can connect Bluetooth or phone to the headunit but doesn't have messenger messeage thanks
Quick question, have you found out if you can do split screen on your Android auto? I have the dasaita vivid 10 and I have the split screen wireless android auto but am considering getting this headunit
I have this unit and it does spilt screen
does the screen dim besides turning it completely off?
Thanks for the walk through very helpful. How did you get the custom boot logo to appear ever time you turn it on or off? I can’t figure it out.
Dude same! That’s exactly why I’m here, did you figure it out?
@@Fast_Forward_Racing bro literally here for the same reason I can't figure it out keep me updated if anything comes up.
This headunit fits on WRX 2015? I'm gonna buy it soon, but i don't know if the headunit requires a major mod inside the car
Does it support the back up camera?
Just installed the unit in my 2017 forester. Everything works great, but for the life of me I can’t get the top part of the unit to go flush. Did anyone else have that problem?
Does the built in navigation work without data connection?
Great tutorial, very professional and to the point, thank you😀
Does the head unit allows videos to be played while the car is on drive mode???
Looking to possibly install this in my 2021 Sti (so glad I got one) and was wondering about SXM radio. I have a subscription and would want to carry that on. Does this unit support SXM and have you used it? Thanks. Keep the videos coming.
It doesn't support it through the factory harness but you can download the app to listen to it
Just installed this on a base 2016 STI with stock sound system. The rear speakers don't work with this headunit and I checked the original and they worked there. Would getting the canbus adapter fix this?
Hi. Have you figured out a way to fix the mic issue?
Question for you, do you think it's necessary to screw back in the 2 10mm bolts that were a pain to get out on the bottom of the head unit, or is it safe to just leave them out for easier removal next time?
Frankly, no, in fact I left mine off at first cause I removed the HU so often. Never had any issues.
Music to my ears, thanks!!
Might be bad if you get rear-ended by someone going 50mph but at that point the head unit is the last thing you're worried about on your car lol
@@adiddle23 the only thing I’d say is installing the screws on the side would 100% stop a thief from stealing it quickly.
