Just installed this one in my WRX. Mine came with totally different UI’s than the ones you showed. Something to keep in mind for people wanting to upgrade. I guess it’s luck of the draw? I don’t mind since I’ll be using CarPlay 99% of the time lol
Do also remember, he said he's had that unit for almost 3 years, which would be about 5 now. It isn't very unusual that in that length of time, they changed their options. But, I'd love to hear your opinions on it so far, as I am really considering buying one for my '04 WRX
Thank you for this video. You're (wittingly or not) one of the ONLY guys who shows the RADIO app long enough to see if the RDS/RadioTXT feature actually is USABLE. (which on this unit, it clearly is, and this is very important to a lot of people -they only realise this after buying- and most (all) companies are pretty dodgy when it comes to answering questions regarding RDS/RadioTXT.

Hmm that is strange! Definitely some random issues I’ve heard. Fortunately, I haven’t had any issues with mine. Is the cable you are using brand new Apple supplied cord?

Is there a way to customize the Home Screen? I have the same options as you do for the Home Screen and looks completely different. Also having an issue with Apple CarPlay to work
it looks a little more awkward on camera than it does in person. It flows very nicely and you don't even notice how it sits. In fact, I actually prefer it this way as it is closer to the driver. I felt the stock unit was very flat and not driver focused. I wrapped the silver trim in gloss black.
What do you think about the Junsun head units? I’m thinking of getting one but I’m not so sure if Junsun is better than Idoing for the price because they are cheaper.

what voltage does the headunit put out? consensus that android headunits are garbage for sound quality... anybody that upgrades the stock headunit is going to "sound better" because it sends more voltage to the speakers. but how much? trying to compare to the well known headunit manufactures in sound. and android headunits are usually less "plug and play"

I've watched other videos on this head unit and they've said you won't we able to use your center console USB connection. So I was wondering how you were able to get that to work. Great video! Thanks so much for the review! Quick question - I have an HK 2018 Forester Limited. I think I hooked everything up correctly, but I'm getting a low/quiet hiss. Doesn't get louder or softer with the volume just constant anytime the unit is playing. Switching between sources or "turning off the amp" in the settings will stop the hiss briefly before starting again like when music is paused. Any thoughts? have you experience the same?
@@Scoobyfreak86 Thanks so much - will do! I isolated the problem - it's in the upper/windshield speakers in the front and the upper speakers in the backseat area. Both left and right do this front and back. The door subs in the front and the lower speakers in the backseat area.
@@Scoobyfreak86 I just messed with a lot of settings on the stereo and didn't cure it. It sounds like a static/grounding issue. I'll let you know what Idoing says.
So I just got mine installed today and noticed the same thing. There is an amp setting (I believe, not in my car at the moment but I can check tomorrow) that boosts your volume. If you have that maxed (I believe max is 60) it will hiss I think I set mine to 45 and don't notice it now. It might be in the developer options but can't confirm at the moment.

Hey Chris! I saw the trajectory lines for reverse was a bit off from the center lines. It had like 2 different trajectories on it. Can you remove one to make it look like the stock reverse?
I know I changed this at some point, but it has been a while since I did it so it's escaping my memory at the moment. It's in the settings where you can turn them on/off and adjust.

Do you lose xm with this head unit? I listen to xm a lot and have a subscription so I’d be pretty upset if I had to give that up, though I know I can just connect it phone to the xm app and play it through there, it’s just the ease of access of it being on the head unit is a lot easier

How do you get the wired Apple CarPlay to work? I’m plugging in an Apple certified usb cable (Anker, not the white Apple one) and it charges but doesn’t boot up CarPlay. I prefer the wired option since there’s a slight lag using the wireless one

Does it work with the OEM Aux port? Just curious as I noticed that “AUX” was an option when you were scrolling through. If not, could you just get an aux adapter that has RCA plugs to plug into the Head Unit?

I’m more familiar with iPhone but all you need to do is going into the android auto settings on your phone and put waze on the Home Screen so it shows up.
@@Scoobyfreak86 yeah I tried putting Waze on default and settings on the headunit, still wouldn't pop up automatically and there's no app to click on in android auto setting in the car.
I installed a similar unit on my WRX 2017 model. Unit works fine but when I use the volume controls while the headlights are switched on the brightness of all the dashboard lights increase, any idea on what could be wrong?
Scoobyfreak86 yes Oem apply cable on USB 1, it’s still finicky at times. I talked to some people at IDoing and they told me they enabled CarPlay wirelessly but no luck on that either
Yes. You need it plugged in for the front speakers to work. It’s shoved in the back and at the bottom. Just need to maneuver wires out of the way and it’ll fit.
Im having issue with the screen brightness at night using apple carplay. My screen brightness for at night/headlights on is turned all the way down. But when i enter back into apple carplay. it shoots the brightness all the way back up
You would need to have a harness made to plug into the unit or a separate amp. That’s one of the main reasons why I went with the OEM kicker speakers and sub. Plug and play.
@@Scoobyfreak86 I have an amp, subs, and all the wiring but trying to find out the best way to get this unit to adapt, I found something that works for now and used the rear RCA cables and they are working currently, just wondering if I'm doing it wrong haha
@@fireituprly get a DSP you can do it that way. And higher the voltage better quality for audio and then connect multiple subs . audio control is the go to

I’m super ocd and stuff like that bothers me as well. But this never got to me. Can’t be seen when on and it was such a small issue during my time with the unit, I never let it get to me. For the $300 I spent on it, it was well worth it despite the small dust that got behind the screen.

Can you watch movies or TH-cam while driving? I have two little ones so this would surely keep them a little quieter on long trips.
If you are connected to wifi or using a hotspot, yes.
Good video. My only issue is that it doesn’t sit flush like OEM. And the vent trim pieces aren’t removable (for painting purposes).

I ran the idoing usb cable to the stock usb location.
Yes you need to amuse the factory Apple cable.
Let us know if the wireless adapter works for carplay! I bought this headunit for my 2012 WRX.

Carplay mirrors your phone. Radio app is running off the Android OS. You can't parallel the apps between systems.

Okay. What black vent trim and black climate knob covers and trim do you have? Looks so good. I also just ordered the idoing unit last night.

Did you get the unit to fit flush on top? If so how? Every time I lock it in at the bottom, it pops out at the top.
Fortunately, mine popped right in snd I didn’t have any issues. I have a video showing the fitment somewhere.

For the USB cables, do they just snap into the original USB ports that come in the glove box?
They do not. You can get them to work in the same spot by Doing something custom though.

Glad you like it! I believe you can only do one at a time since carplay uses WIFI to connect.

Aftermarket, no. It works with the OEM kicker sub though. However, there are no rca inputs/outputs on the back for aftermarket.

You can’t since the trim is attached to the unit. I wrapped them in gloss black vinyl.

Headunit comes with USB ports to run wherever you want in the car.

Yes the OEM usbs and aux will not work. The headunit is supplied with new ports and outlets to plug what you need in.
3368 works for me but 1818 doesn’t so I can’t access the different skins 😞
Try 7171 for the skins instead of 1818. Worked for me

I just got the dasaita px6 can your unit raise speakers levels past 0. I can go below 0 like -0 to -10 but can't go above speaker level 0 to +10

I installed a similar unit on my WRX 2017 model. Unit works fine but when I use the volume controls while the headlights are switched on the brightness of all the dashboard lights increase, any idea on what could be wrong?
I haven't experienced that problem before. Have you had any custom/modified electrical work done?
@@Scoobyfreak86 Nope, when the headlights are switched on even the volume controls don’t work. As soon as I turn of the headlights it works fine.
does the usb in your armrest still work or did that get sent to glovebox?
Factory usb does not work. But I ran one of the headunit usbs into there and one into the glovebox.

You can use your stock usb!
How did you get the PW for the settings to change the camera lines?

Are you using the OEM Apple cable? It can be finicky if you use an aftermarket cord.
Scoobyfreak86 yes Oem apply cable on USB 1, it’s still finicky at times. I talked to some people at IDoing and they told me they enabled CarPlay wirelessly but no luck on that either
Do you have a STARLINK box installed with your stereo? I can’t figure out how to make it fit behind the iDoing console
Yes. You need it plugged in for the front speakers to work. It’s shoved in the back and at the bottom. Just need to maneuver wires out of the way and it’ll fit.

Yes. Both phone or head unit are available to use controls.
Yep! You can also download the Spotify app on the unit so you dont have to use Carplay

I have had no issues. Sounds just like the stock headunit for me.
You actually do need an adapter to fool STARLINK to go green instead of flagging red.
Im having issue with the screen brightness at night using apple carplay. My screen brightness for at night/headlights on is turned all the way down. But when i enter back into apple carplay. it shoots the brightness all the way back up
Have you tried the settings on your phone to decrease the brightness?

Through CarPlay, it’s whatever ringtone you set your phone at.
Did you original have hk? Or base audio seriously looking into this but everyone says with the hk unit you can't use these types of headunits

You would need to have a harness made to plug into the unit or a separate amp. That’s one of the main reasons why I went with the OEM kicker speakers and sub. Plug and play.
@@Scoobyfreak86 I have an amp, subs, and all the wiring but trying to find out the best way to get this unit to adapt, I found something that works for now and used the rear RCA cables and they are working currently, just wondering if I'm doing it wrong haha
@@fireituprly get a DSP you can do it that way. And higher the voltage better quality for audio and then connect multiple subs . audio control is the go to

I installed my idoing unit, everything works well, but i cannot get the lines on my reverse to come on and the most of the radio channels come in static. Im sure i did something wrong with connection, lol. Thanks!
You’ll need to enter the settings to turn the reverse lines on. The radio, I am not sure. Try putting the antenna in a better spot.

@stephenculcasi5775 had about 2 specs of dust get behind it during my 4.5 years with the unit. Only “issue” I had with it.

I’m super ocd and stuff like that bothers me as well. But this never got to me. Can’t be seen when on and it was such a small issue during my time with the unit, I never let it get to me. For the $300 I spent on it, it was well worth it despite the small dust that got behind the screen.

They turn on when the lights are on. Off otherwise.

It’s in the settings somewhere. I forget exactly where, but it changes based on the time of day.

I have the same unit in my 2017 wrx. Just wondering if you’ve updated your firmware at all? Mine has quite a few glitches that I’m sure would go away with an update but I’m finding it impossible to find one. I’ve only found them for the other brands.
