The part where he talks about people being afraid of Control Room and being like... turn it off... turn it off... TURN IT OFF, had me laughing because I totally did exactly that at first. I just didn't see any point in using it, but now I use it for everything I do. Great video.

It took me several years of using cubase before turning on the control room, but now it’s never being turned off again.
I love how I can easily switch between different speakers and headphone, each with different correction plugins.

I am a retired musician /teacher and at this stage only plan to use cubase to prepare backing tracks to record my trombone over. Thank you Dom.

Control Room, wow what a feature. Thanks to Control room I now connect all my external Compressors and effects straight into one of my 16 analog inputs and outputs of my Motu interface directly and send straight to them from control room. This way I don’t have to patch. Great video, you’ve made some changes in my studio. I can see some people still haven’t jumped on bird with Cubase because there’s a few thumbs down. Don’t hate peoples, the video is great and cubase is the route to take. I started with Cubase SL years ago and tried many other production daws and always found my way back to cubase. Thanks for the video, you got my sub

I just did a recording session for my band, we only get together about twice a year, and I had a lot of the issues you mentioned about each member having their own headphone mix that would’ve been solved if using Cubase instead of Logic, would have saved myself a lot of headaches. I just upgraded my Cubase to the "Pro" version, I hope Steinberg pays you a salary for all the great information you provide and in an entertaining and easy to understand manner (and if they do they should give you a raise)!!!

For years I never used it. The way it was initially marketed made it seem it’s only really useful for large scale studios to route audio to different recording rooms.
But it’s so much more. A great referencing tool, the listen feature is useful, especially for things like soloing send FX without the sent audio. Mono mix checking with 1 button, switching outputs with 1 button.
Also it’s nice that you can add inserts to it. I have my master chain on the stereo out bus, and all my analysis tools like SPAN, smexoscope, ozillosmegascope, metric A/B & mixed in key studio edition in the control room insert slots and activate them when needed.
    Highly underrated feature

I just turned on Control Room this morning permanently, after trying for months to figure out its relevance. Cubase was my first DAW. But I guess I got tempted by the hype around Pro Tools being the Industry Standard, and also after enrolling in a Berklee course on Mixing, I found they use PT to teach. So I subscribed to PT at the student price. I took a month's crash course to get going on PT before my mixing classes started. Everything went well. I learnt a lot of skills on PT given that classes were taught on it, but I also began to realize the strengths of Cubase. It's a pain in the **** to A/B a reference in PT. I began to see the many strengths of Cubase that I took for granted. The Q-link for example frees your left hand (whereas PT you would have to use both hands to assign common operations on multiple tracks; Both hands also to open and close the mix window-Cubase is just F3; The list is so so many) I used a spreadsheet and populated all the workflow comparisons, strengths and weaknesses after many months of using both Cubase and PT side by side. It was a painstaking operation. The differences and workflow time savings blew me away. I've ditched PTs and been full-time on Cubase. I still open it for past projects, but I can't imagine sacrificing the time-saving of Cubase for PT. The Control Room alone trumps other DAWs and PT in particular. I don't regret using PT cos it made my courses at Berklee easy to relate with and not trying to figure out the equivalent uses in Cubase as the course went on. Everything fell into place after the course, and opened my understanding about the strengths of Cubase. End of Story.

I wish I knew about the Monitoring Inserts in the Control Room 10 years ago, holy crap that's what I've been looking for. I always used it on my master channel and had to constantly re-open my plugins whenever I would "close all" (which I use often, bound to ctrl+w). But I hated that it would close my meters as well.
Been learning so much from your vids Dom, thanks much!

Great video Dom! For those who think they won’t bother with cues because they only record solo, consider the advantage when you’ve already spent hours settings your mix levels, then you want to record an extra track but with a different mix to play along to eg louder drums and base, the cues to headphones is a great solution. Even when you’re the other side of the room for better acoustics and you use IC pro app remotely on your iPad, because that app has the 4 ‘cue mixes’ in settings and is fantastic.

Thanks for a great video Dom. I've been using Cubase since 1989, when it came out. When the Control Room came out, I used it... but only for the Click level. I am a "one man in the studio doing all the stuff" so I don't need all the stuff I could use the Control Room for. I turned the Control Room off many years ago now. I am a super user of Cubase with over 100 album releases made entirely in Cubase. I can give many reasons why I don't use the Control Room, but the main reason is that Control Room is a extra step that I dont need to take. I am not saying what other users should do, I would not dream of doing that. Enjoy Cubase. A small comment from a happy melody maker.

Never! Never forgot calibration on. Nope. *cough*
Thank you very much for this to-the-point introduction! I was aware of the CR, but never got around to set it up. This pushed me over the edge, and now I have speakers and two pairs of headphones running with their respective calibrations at all times, and some nice analyzers and stuff on the master, all without interfering with projects and export. Brilliant feature!

Started to use Control Room after watching this inspirational video ! It's the way to go, actually the only way :) Lost the metronome sound, but you covered that as well in the video.
