    Thanks a million for showing me how to configure different monitoring EQs for different monitors! It's been driving me mad that I haven't found it, and I've been using a Que for my second monitor instead, but then I've had to both turn off the mains while turning on the second monitor. Now it's ONE click! Yeah!

    I use the Control room but never thought about putting Sonorworks on there so I don't have to keep deactivating/activating it for mixing down. As you showed, you can have different Sonorworks profiles for different speakers ready to go with a single click. Also you explained the L button for me which I look at but have never used! Now it all makes sense! Great video and explanation of a feature of Cubase I overlooked for a long time. Thanks Chris.

    Great video! I don't have a physical monitor switcher, so I use the inserts on the monitor outputs in the control Room, mapped to buttons on a physical controller, to send through the appropriate Sonarworks profile for each of my three monitor pairs. I also have one on my phones channel to use the profile for my headphones. I made a video on that too.

    As always, a great video; very concise. Agreeing with Nelson, the 'Listen' trick is awesome. Even just using it to set up effects will save a lot of time.
    My search for this video topic was motivated by a phone call I received yesterday from a friend in Germany (I'm in Toronto) who lost his 'stereo' playback to his speakers; would only do 'stereo to mono' playback. A new piece of hardware that wouldn't connect made him think that Cubase was set up incorrectly; it was a fault in the hardware unit which he's sending back today. So he messed up the Cubase Control Room before he worked that out. I had to log onto his computer (I used Teamviewer) to correct it. I couldn't make it work with just verbal instruction.
    The reason is that he is running 9.5 and I am using 10.5. There are some differences in how to access and select output mixes. A few new buttons in the newest version of Cubase. I thought that I'd mention this in case someone is having a problem making this work. If you still have 9.5 version on your computer, check it out.
    Setting up my 'Listen' now. Thanks again.

    Greatand in depth as always Chris - those Dim controls were new to me. I use the Cue mix for my singer, usually give him Cues of the group channels, but sometimes just switch his heaphones to the master so he gets an idea what the finished mix sounds like. Really one of the main features of Pro, I couldn't work without that. Haven't tried the talkback yet because we work in the same room, but even then I can imagine it helpful to sing him harmonies.

    Hi! Chris, great videos.
    I bought Steinberg UR 44 C in an attempt to improve work flow between Cubase (12) and it, but I was a bit disappointed.
    Control Room and DSP effects synchrony:
    To my surprise having to use DSP effects hinders work flow in the following manner when recording in the same room as many of us do these days:
    When one wants to use DSP effects, one would select the track one would record on and the dsp panel would appear on the inspector.
    Problem 1: But for it to appear, you should have output busses under "Output" tab as opposed to having busses in the control room. If you have busses in the Control Room for headphones mix for the singer and monitors, but not have busses under "Output" tab, the DSP panel will not appear on the inspector.
    Implications:
    This means that, for me to record audio using DSP effects, I'm forced to have to remove L1 and R1 busses on "Monitors" under Control Room tab so as to use them at the "Output" tab.
    This would then mean that, my Monitors are silent and the "Main" button does not work. This is a huge inconvenience because sometimes one oscillates between recording and editing.
    The only way to resolve to dial down the physical volume on the UR 44 C. I was hoping I would not have to touch anything physical like I used to on my previous interface. I could control everything from the "Control Room" without opening audio settings.
    I wish Steinberg make DSP effects panel active even just by simply activating Control Room.
    It is better to try what I'm what talking about. Don't mind creating a video to explain better.
    Could you please do a video on how to increase work flow if you record in the same room while working from computer on Control Room while using DSP effects.

    Thanks Chris! I love using control room. It’s always on!
    I recently started using it to listen to reference tracks while mixing. This way I can route the reference track so that it doesn’t go through my master buss processing, and I can seamlessly A/B my mix by switching between Mix and Cue 1(or 2-4)
    If I set the reference track to solo defeat, I can also seamlessly A/B soloed tracks in my mix against the reference track.
    Love your videos!

    Hi Chris, great tips again! I use the Control Room all the time, e.g. for Ref-Tracks routing, so my 2-CH. MASTER w/ plugins is bypassed. This way I can switch between Monitors and Cues (Refs) in no time at all. And yeah, the Listen Mode in Cubase is great, it's very useful during the mixing, 'cause listening halfway in context, thanks to the Dim-Level, is something that I really love. I use the Solo Mode as little as possible. Have a good one, and stay healthy bro!! :-)

    I use the control room while streaming. I have two cues set up, one that goes to the stream, one that goes into my in-ears. The one to my in-ears has my click track, and a slightly altered mix so I can hear the instruments I'm playing. I send the talkback to both, to use as my speaking mic, and I have a plugin (Muteomatic) that I use to mute the talkback when I go into play mode. When I'm not performing live, I just listen to the regular monitor mix, which goes to my monitor controller. One of the biggest benefits for me is that the control room configuration remains intact, even when I switch projects.

      You can set up in preferences, that the TB is mutet, when Cubase is playing. No need for Muteomatic. I use Muteomatic in the Reverb channel, to stop the Reverb when in Stopmode, when I talk to the talent, so you can speak without Reverb.

    I have many questions about Cubase Pro control room feature. Looks very interesting.
    First, is there a way to have momentary on/off switching like a conventional studio talkback, opposed to the click on/click off? (That sounds like a recipe for disaster if it accidentally gets left on and picks up confidential control room dialog and all the players hear it!).
    Is there a setting to have faders control a cue mix instead of the little mousey line bar?
    What about a remote control room volume pot?
    I like your idea of having the control room mix on a stereo channel in cue for quick monitoring but is it possible to send the mix to all the separate channels quickly, then be able to tweak separate cue mixes as needed for players?
    Effects and sometimes even eq on the cue mix channels seems fairly obvious, but please elaborate. A great cue mix is one of the most overlooked factors in getting great, balanced, inspired and dynamic performances.
    Thanks for great tutorials!

    LOL, you forgot to unmute but in 12:16 you unmute instead of mute 😹. We call it “gajes del oficio”.
    How does OBS get the audio? You send the cue mix to hardware output and OBS get this from an input or is this done all directly via software?

    Is there a way to use the control room to use a laptop's onboard mic for a talkback mic? In the studio, I simply use the talkback functionality made available through my monitor controller. But I often track demo vocal on a laptop at other locations and I'd love to know if there's a way to do this -- I'm a little worried that Cubase may unfortunately not have the power to do this. Starting audio recording i used the control-room for different mixings to record. One cue was used for backingtrack an other for my instrumet i#ve recorded that moment.
    Both cue's i've routed to my interface that had 10 outputs and for of them i used to go in my mixer. In the mixer i had two subgroups where one i used for the backings and the other to hear me playing while i am recording. Now i use a digital mixer and so i have no use for the control room now.
    Maybe later when i buy a vocalbooth to put it in a different room, i will use the controll room for the studio-room and one cue for the vocal booth.

    Thanks again for this video! Here's another question....This pandemic has made it unable for us as musicians to work in public. We did attempt to do a live stream on Facebook and the audio was terrible! I downloaded OBS and a program to connect the android phone via Wi-Fi to OBS, but could not get the audio to work no matter what I tried! I was going to run our mics through Cubase Pro with our Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 but could never get any audio in OBS. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as we will be live streaming again...hopefully with better audio!

    Question: When you first opened the Control Room you had Sonarworks Ref in an insert slot at the bottom of the CR but then moved it up to your Monitor's insert slot. What is the lower set of insert slots and how are they different from the ones under the monitor? Thanks!

    • @mixdownonline
      @mixdownonline  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The ones on top will affect a specific Monitor Output, each monitor output will have Insert slots. if Sonarworks is added at the bottom like I do, that affects all monitor outputs.

    A question if for you. When I set up my control room all my audio I send to my cues seem to be panned a bit to the left. All my panners are dead center so I don't really know why. Any ideas on why this is happening? I have looked everywhere I can think of both in my settings and on-line to find an answer.

    Sometimes i just want to fix something fast while recording (and i'm already with my Headphones on) BUT when i want to adjust a note in Variaudio quickly i CAN"T hear the fixes when i move the notes around because i'm hearing the Cue in my Headphones, when i go to the control room section on my Cue mix and switch the input to MIX it doesn't work either :(
    Any suggestions?

    Great tutorial. I love the features of Cubase Pro's Control Room. I do have a question, though, that I'm a bit confused on. The Control Room provides great routing options for monitoring, and basically leaves Cubase's main stereo output to be used just for exporting your stereo mixdown. I'm sure I'm not the only one, though, that like to put a bus compressor, EQ and/or limiter on my master bus for mixing. If I'm using Control Room, does this mean I need to put these plugins on my master stereo bus as well as my control room bus, with the same exact settings, so that I can hear the effects of these plugins both when monitoring through the control room as well as in the stereo mixdown that is exported through the stereo master bus? For example, I might insert an SSL bus compressor on my stereo master bus. Would I need to insert the SSL bus compressor plugin on both the stereo master bus as well as my control room inserts and match their settings? It seem to me that if I don't insert the bus compressor on the control room, I won't hear its effect when I'm mixing/monitoring, and if I don't put it on the stereo master bus, my mixdown won't be affected by the bus compressor. However, having to insert it on both the control room and the master bus and match the plugin settings seems a bit inefficient and dodgy. It would be nice if there was an insert chain that was shared between the control room and the master output bus so that both could be run through the same exact plugins. Am I thinking about this wrong?

    • @mixdownonline
      @mixdownonline  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can add your Mix Bus processing on the Stereo Out channel like you usually do. No need to add them again in the control room, the signal coming out of your Master Out Channel is what you're go hear through the CR. The CR Inserts are for monitoring types plugins like a VU Meter, Graphic Analyzer, Sonarworks Sound iD, Waves NX for Headphones... Plugins you monitor with, but don't want to bounce with your mix. Hope that helps!

      It's possible for sure. Make sure your Stereo Output in VST Connections is routed to "Not Connected" when Control Room is active and that your main output is Connected to Monitor 1 in Control Room (VST Connections)

      Yes you can, and you should. Your main Stereo output will be used by the Control Room. Using the Cues Mixes will not be useful in your case but everything else will.

    Hi Chris. I switch between monitor buses on the same pair of speakers emulating different speaker systems, so I have to use the same hardware outputs on different monitor buses. The problem is each time I open Cubase the Master buses in the Outputs of the Studio Connection window are engaged automatically. So my output Master bus signal doubles with the Control Room monitor bus and I have to disconnect them each time I open Cubase. That's uncomfortable. Do you have a clue how ro fix this bug?

    • @mixdownonline
      @mixdownonline  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure I follow your entire monitor busses process but when using the Control Room, make sure that the Stereo Output from the Output Tab (Audio Connection) is always routed to "Not Connected" but routed to your Outputs in the Control Room Tab.

    Hey there, I am definitely going to try using the control room more since I now know how to set it up correctly. However I have a problem which I can´t find a solution for.
    In Cubase 10.5 I can´t rename tracks by double clicking anymore and that is driving me crazy. I can only do it from the mixer window at the bottom. When I open the drop down menu from the name tag the option to rename the track is greyed out. Do I have to enable that in the preferences or is that simply a bug. In cubace 10 that problem doesn´t exist. pls help...

    • @mixdownonline

      Looks like there's a corruption somewhere. You might need to trash your Cubase Preferences to fix the problem. Contact the Steinberg support to help you with this. And don't forget to backyp your Preferences before deleteing anything ;-)

    th-cam.com/video/c9z59BZmY7E/w-d-xo.html
    This is also important!!!
    And I use the control room for inserting analyser plugins like Voxengo SPAN or things like that.
    I use a shortcut to open only the control room in a small window to see the output
    And - very important - the room correction. I use ARC2 from ik Multimedia. But sonarworks is maybe the better choice.

  • @gerhardbinkele3753
    @gerhardbinkele3753 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    The control room should be used by EVERYONE !!! Even if you record one voice or a single instrument you can benefit from the cue mix.
    And you can leave alone the master fader at 0 dB. Or you can set up a reference track and if you use the track variations with it you can compare all your reference tracks with your actual project.
    And the control room gives you the option to send the reference tracks directly out of Cubase without the effects of your master channel.
    Here's a video how to set it up:

      That's a cool way to use the Control Room for reference tracks for sure. On my side, I keep my Master Out for reference plugins like SPAN and a Vu Meter. I have a separate Group Channel as my main Stereo Out where I insert my plugins. The only channels routed to the Master Out are that Stereo Out Buss and my reference(s) tracks. Like they say, all roads leads to Rome ;-)
