Do you use the Cubase control room? Any additional tips?
I tried, but I don´t see any benefit for me (basically recording all tracks alone, mostly synths). However, the Listen function can be really good
@@sapinit4322 Towards the end, I mention some reasons why it still makes sense to use the control room. Maybe they can convince you ;).

These programs are so big and since 1999 I have just been using what I need but after 24 years it might be time to experiment and expand therefore fully utilising Cubase 12! That is my goal for this and next month.

I have started to use the Control Room in Cubase when mixing. I have two SonarWorks plugins set up in the Main output and the Headphone output, respectively, each loaded with the proper calibration profiles. Makes all the difference in the world to me when mixing!
Yes it’s nice for that. You can even put those in monitor inserts so you have a separate profile per speaker set. Or you don’t have to turn off the main profile when listening to your headphones.
Using the CR for as long as it’s there. And I’m mostly recording alone at home. 4 Cues for 4 referencetracks, A big hooray for the Listen button while mixing , and great for inserting metering and speakercorrection software without having to worry about exporting the mastermix whIle they are still active.

It is used to talk to the musicians in the studio if they are in a separate room.

I use mixer 4 as a monitor mixer for my cues. I use direct routing to send the outputs of my backing tracks to my mixbus and in addition to a different set channels that I use for cue mixing. It‘s a little bit less intuitive but in the end imho easier to set up a separate mix for the headphones, because afaik Cubase hasn‘t a feature like the Cubase IC Pro app where you can view the cue sends as faders. That would be a nice feature in the next Cubase version to have a mixer page for every cue with the cue sends as faders instead of small sliders hidden in a rack.

Yes the control room monitor inserts can be used very well for that.
I have SPL Hawkeye on the Master out as well as Srramliner, and of course Sonarworks inserted on all headphone outputs

Thanks for the informative video on the Control Room. Question: What physical connections (trs cable connections) do I need to make from audio interface to my 6 channel headphone amplifier?
You are welcome. Well, if you want to have separate mixes going to the headphones you would need to assign the cue channels in Cubase to different audio interface outputs, and then connect those to the inputs of your headphone amplifier. And then you can make separate mixes using the cue sends. There are only 4 cue channels available though so you cannot make 6 different mixes.
This is assuming you have a headphone amplifier with so many inputs. If your headphone amplifier only has one stereo input (which mine does), all headphones get the same mix and you would need only one cue channel to make a separate mix for the headphones.

I currently use my (Focusrite 18i20) interface software to set up cue mixes for my six piece band. I understand that there are only 4 stereo cue outputs in the Control Room. Is there a way to route a cue to more than one set of outputs so I can provide (duplicated) mixes to band members 5 and 6? Thank you.
You are welcome. I don't think there is a way in Cubase to do that, but you could use hardware or software of your audio interface. E.g. a headphone amplifier that allows routing one input to multiple outputs.
I don't now the Focusrite software myself, but on my RME, I am very much able to route the inputs from software to multiple physical outputs on the interface.
But if anybody else knows a way in Cubase ..... Maybe via a multi-out insert on the cue channel in the control room e.g..?
@@LanewoodStudios Thank you. I have solved the problem by setting up aux buses with their outputs routed to the 5th and 6th headphone amp inputs. I can then use sends to route mixes to the aux buses, and hence to the 5th and 6th musicians.
Ah yes of course. If you are not tied in to the cue mix system you can use sends. Or maybe direct routing if you want to make sure that levels are all the same.
Cubase 11 Pro & UR-RT4: I am using PHONES 2 as a CUE, but the "Use Phones Channel as Preview Channel" option does not work with CUE setups. PHONES 1 is also linked to the Control Room red volume knob, so I'd have to physically turn my speakers off if I were to only listen through headphones. Any ideas?
Clarification: With Control Room activated, I can preview samples through PHONES 1 and to listen to Mix 1 as with the monitor, but only if the Control Room (red knob) volume is turned up. PHONES 1 jack is fixed to Mix 1.
The PHONES 2 jack I am using as a CUE output for when I'm recording vocals at the microphone so as to prevent "howlround" feedback, but I cannot use that same output (while set to CUE) in order to preview samples if I were to edit or produce.
A hardware version for desktop would be great for using with Cubase

By the way, you get some of this functionality from a (hardware) monitor controller but not all of it.

@@LanewoodStudios My tip for anyone using more than one set of monitors with software correction (Sonarworks etc) is to use the monitor inserts and have each set with its own calibration profile. I like to keep that stuff away from the master bus.
Sir. I am using Cubase 12 pro. My problem is every time I open a fresh project i have to link my focusrite audio console for output only by navigating Audio Connection (F 4). But for input connectivity, cubase automatically detects my audio console. Therefore I'm confused and looking for it's solution. Kindly help.
I'm not sure what is happening in your case. I would contact Steinberg or ask this question on the Cubase forums.
Please help me, what if I want to setup another talkback mic in the tracking room? Cubase only allows me to add one talkback mic, but what if I want to hear the musician talking to me in a separated talkback mic? Thanks!
Maybe just use a mic on a regular input channel?

TIP: I always have a brick wall limiter inserted on the Cue sends. That way, the talents hearing is protected, should some loud sound or transient accidentally happen. You don't wanna blow the singers eardrums, do you?
