  • This is a bit more 'raw' (no music, less b roll, less 'hype') so I'd love to know what you think!
    I invited Daniel over to compare 5 different 5" and 7" monitors as a small portion of my Hollyland Mars M1 Review. We ended up talking for way too long so I decided to break this out into it's own video as it was all super helpful information to share.
    Sorry there isn't a 'proper' conclusion... this was intended as a segment, not a whole video!

    Guys loved your video. Just what I was looking for. The only thing I would have liked you to add is the effective brightness of the screens outdoors (with included fan noise, if any).

      I love it in the 5” size. The smallHD monitors are my absolute favourite but this has almost identical image quality, a bunch of accessories included, and the wireless stuff at a price that makes smallHD look like a ripoff. I’m planning auto post a review of the mars in the next few days 🔥

    Hello, congratulations for the video. I have a Sony FX3 and I record everything in SLOG3. Now I have a cheap monitor from Feelworld, and I have noticed that it clips the whites when there is a lot of dynamic range in the image. I only use the monitor to compose and to check the exposure (obviously I use false color and parade, but I also want to see the real image as accurately as possible). My question is if the shinobi 5 has a panel with enough steps to be accurate in the representation of the exposure... or which one could be used for that...

    • @Isaac_Insoll
      @Isaac_Insoll  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My method of exposing is just monitoring the image with a LUT on and having zebras set at 94% to warn me of any clipping.
      It works perfectly for me. I can switch to false color to double check but I mainly just use that for skin tones.
      I think any of these monitors would be fine as they are all good enough. I’d also recommend not over exposing the footage in camera. I’ve had better results with just doing the correct exposure and I don’t notice any additional noise in the shot

    The HM1 seems like a great value. I’d like to see it in a 7” version.

      I emailed Hollyland after I published this review and asked them if there were other sizes coming. They said:
      “We do have a new monitor coming soon. I believe we will cooperate again soon”
      I’m pumped. Not sure what I want more: 7” or 15” 😀

      @@Isaac_Insoll thank you we have some questions
      - the screen color accurate? Can fix it with the temp function?
      - fan noise if close overheating?
      - false color it true? When using FX3

    • @Isaac_Insoll
      @Isaac_Insoll  ปีที่แล้ว

      Screen color looks incredibly accurate. I had it set at 6500k as that matched the other monitors the most closely and when I spoke to hollyland they said it was the best “default”
      Fan noise: annoying compared to my silent smallHD monitors. I turned it off immediately and haven’t noticed any overheating yet so it seems fine.
      False color: I’ll get back to you 😀

      Good lineup of monitors. Fan noise is something I don’t like on monitors, the Shinobi 7 has some noise but the 5 has no fan. Would be nice to have a brighter screen on the 5, while also making it lighter. The Hollyland looks cool but if the fan is noisy, that’s a pass. Thanks for the video.

    FYI Shinobi does not have the rule of thirds grid lines. Have you guys compared the SDI latency on them? Looking to upgrade to M1 but not sure if the latency on it is worse then the Shinobi SDI.

    • @Isaac_Insoll
      @Isaac_Insoll  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the info. We don’t have a Shinobi SDI to test sorry. I did another video on the M1 and it seems like it always has the latency regardless of input method

    I plan on getting the lumix s5iix… and will be recording 6k 30p 4k50p … my question is… would this display correctly or at all on the Atomos Shinobi?
    I am aware the shinobi is just a monitor and i want to know if whatever codec i choose to shoot in on my s5iix would it display on the monitor… or is there a limit to what it shows etc?

    • @Isaac_Insoll
      @Isaac_Insoll  ปีที่แล้ว

      The codec won’t matter as the camera is just outputting a HDMI feed, not an encoded video file.
      I’m not sure how to lumix works but I just set my Sony to output 1080 over HDMI while recording 4k internal. Then even shooting at 100fps the HDMI output is only 1080 so all the monitors support it fine.
      If the monitors actually had 4k panels I wouldn’t do that, but they are all 1080 anyway

    I bought a second-hand AtomOS ninja inferno, I can’t update it because there is no access to the support site, I have version 8.5, but as I understand it, there is already 10.69, but how can I download it and or how can I get this file through someone and will it fit my AtomOS ninja inferno. please help me please!

    Do you guys think the Atomos Shinobi is colour accurate enough to set a good white balance when shooting F-log?

    • @Isaac_Insoll
      @Isaac_Insoll  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry man I can’t answer that. I always use my focus 7 and 702 touch to manually set white balance to “whatever looks good to my eye” but I’ve only ever used the shinobi when we shot this video as it’s Daniels main monitor.
      Daniel… just shoots everything at 5600k and uses a canon so he couldn’t give advice on manually white balancing f log 😀
      The screen looked accurate in the short time I used it, if that’s any help

      None of these monitors support “tap to focus” for any camera system as far as I know. I’m super excited if there are monitors that will do that on FX3/FX6 but these ones definitely don’t

      Thanks for commenting. I did two videos on this monitor: a proper review video including latency testing, then this one which is more an image quality comparison with Daniel. In the other video with the latency testing I pretty much said exactly what you said: great for "directors monitor" but even the monitor in just 'monitor mode' (no transmit/receive) has latency compared to SmallHD monitors. • @Isaac_Insoll
      @Isaac_Insoll  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Honestly, I agree. When I'm watching a review of a product, I want to see the product, not some random persons face.
      However, we had lots of issues shooting this video: there were super obvious visual differences between each of the monitors that we could *easily* see in person, but when filming the monitors the differences weren't as obvious, so I focused on "explaining what we see" over "show the monitors" as it wasn't really showing what it was like in person
