Frankly I love the KTM bags as they leave nothing behind when you are not using them. They are a bit fiddly, but they will hold any downpour and they are solid both as mounting and as bags in their own right
I do like the SW gear, well thought out stuff and I like how as you say can easily return your bike to pretty much standard looking in a matter of seconds 👍🏻

Love your work. I had the GT with the KTM panniers & they were great. The lock is keyed to the ignition key, so lock on / off & opened without seperate key. I say had because police in the nanny state where I live, (Victoria, Australia), said it was toooo fast, so 12 months of walking etc. Best bike I've ever ridden, let alone owned. Never rode in heavy rain, but an inner bag is the go anyway. I know the panniers aren't cheap, but worth it.
Yeah would love to try the stock panniers, unfortunately not available to me for review, and can't say I want to fork out that amount of coin, just to test them.
A good upgrade on nylon throw-overs. Lockable and secure to the bike, not as bulky/pricey as boxes. Can't wait for your camping exploits, love a tent hol! Bed or mat? Big tent small tent? Camp meals or find a cafe? Nice vid👊✊
Going with a 2 man tent, air mat, with gas stove and ready meals, few tins.....proper camping!😜
Nice detailed video Bud as always, SW Motech is in my opinion the best system one can find for the bike no matter what one gets in accessories ;-)

These panniers are almost impossible to find any reviews on, so thanks. I just ordered a set today based on this video. Guess I'll find out for myself what they are really like.

@@thelikeablerider8800 My needs are mostly commuting with an occasional camping trip. I have the tail case and find it very handy while being tidy looking. If I add a dry bag I'm all set for a road trip.

Me personally i don't get the philosophy of SWM with there waterproofing by inner bags, pure inconvenience to me.
Thanks for your comment, I'm glad you're enjoying them. I on the other hand like the inner dry bags, and hasn't inconvenienced me at all. I don't know of any others who provide soft luggage without one. Waterproofing is kinda important to me as I ride all year round in all weather's.
They look nice yes but I think I'd prefere the proper kTM ones that are designed to fit on to the bike with no fixings showing

The evo system is great idea, I use it on my 2001 XJR to fit 42l Givi panniers! once the frame holder is removed it keeps the look of the bike!

I like those bags do they hold enough for a 10-14 day one up tour as you obviously toured with the earlier version 👍

I had an old age crisis and went camping with my motorbike a few years ago. Thankfully that crisis has now passed but I'm still in therapy trying to get over the experience. 😂

Another good review, however how good are the zippers, do they pass the ball point pen intrusion test.
You'll have to explain the ball point pen test lol but yes the zippers are good quality! Haven't had one fail on any of my gear from SWMOTECH, and I've had a lot lol

Interesting at the moment I use soft strap over panniers for street triple .wonder if they would they have brackets to fit a high exhaust speed triple .

Tires are great Paul! Must be near 10,000kms on this set. News ones waiting to go on, but think I can still get more out of the first set.
Just had a set put on today, scrubbing in a bit but already superb handling and feel 👍
@@paulpartridge2674 good man Paul! It's a tire that does it all.....well! Even an intermediate track day wasn't a problem. I reckon I could get 12,000km out of them, baring in mind I took a couple of mm off on the track day. The legal tread limit here in Germany is 1.6mm which is before the tread wear indicator on the tire, is the legal minimum limit 1mm in the UK? I'm down to 1.6mm in the middle and 1.7mm on the shoulder, so wear is fairly equal throughout. Got a new set waiting to go on which I was sent from Michelin, so a review will.be coming soon, although by that time you'll have made your own mind up on them.
1mm across 2/3 of tire I think , but to be honest I wouldn't go that low Germany 1.6 mm makes more sense especially in the wet .
@@paulpartridge2674 yes that's probably the thinking behind it, but to look at it you'd think theirs loads left on them. I'll keep them on for a few more rides out, then stick the patiently awaiting new ones on👍😜

Ah m8 they're the best! Must have over 10,000km on this set, wet and dry touring, track day.....all without problem on this rubber. Got a new set waiting which I'm to review, so there will be a video coming soon on them.
TheLikeableRider cheers I had 4’s on my gsa loved them, seriously considering putting the 5’s on the XR I can’t seem to get on with the Bridgestone T30 eve on it only done 850 miles but don’t fill me with feel or confidence so far 🙄

I was hoping you might be able to get me more information on the systems you I stalled. It appears they're not for sale from sw-mototech anymore. I may be overlooking them though. I can't find anything aftermarket anywhere

They still sell them! If you're using the bike filter and they don't appear in the list, it probably means they don't fit on your particular bike.
@TheLikeableRider this has been the biggest downside to my ktm 1290gt. The luggage has virtually no aftermarket at all. The aero abs system is available still but the particular kit for the gt doesn't appear to be. Thank you for responding to such an old video comment.

Slight different question, having a 1290 gt. I've recently had my bike updated software wise. There was an engine management update. It feels less powerful, lost its magic umpf. Have u had a similar update and felt the same? Or heard someone who has pls? Tks
Yes I've had the update but haven't noticed a loss in power, but overall improvement

Couldn't tell you for sure as they're not really the optimal shape to house a laptop.
How would these work with a fender eliminator kit? Seems they crated a product that there was no need for on the GT
Not sure what you mean.....do you mean a tail tidy? If so then it wouldn't, you need to be able to secure it there.

Question, lets say you fill them with staff to go on a trip. You take them out and fill them with clothes and staff. How do you lock them in place if they are already loaded?
The locking mechanism is at the top, so you can still get to it when they're loaded.

It is inside, but at the top so you can still get to it. Not to forget, its prevents a quick steal, if someone really wants to steal you luggage then they will, regards of soft or hard luggage.
Did you buy these and the older panniers with your own money or were you given them by SWMotech?

I have the KTM one's they came free with the bike 🏍️ but I never put them on the bike I use my tank bag all the time 🏍️
Unfortunately they don't come stock with the bike here in Germany, would have liked to test them myself to see if they're as bad as many say. Spoke to a few online who haven't any problems with them.
On the very rare occasion I have used them they were grand and stayed water tight on the down side my lid won't fit🙁

Depends on the helmet I suppose, some will some won't I'd imagine.
Whats wrong with the factory panniers?...wondering why you would go with a aftermarket system..
Don't forget that these are available for a number of bikes, and for bikes where a panniers system just isn't available from the manufacturer, this is just an example. This bike doesn't come standard with the KTM panniers here in Germany, so this could be a cheaper option for people. It's known by KTM that their panniers have problems, so again this is just another option.
@@thelikeablerider8800 I think The Aero system looks pretty good, it is a good option for sure. the panniers do not come standard here either you have to pay extra...
Seems rather silly to unlock the panniers from the inside when you have a case full of things. So in essence you will need to unzip the bag, reach inside and unlock the dial before you can use the thumb release. Hmmmmmm.... someone didn’t think it through.
I personally think its a great idea! You'd have to have them rammed full, not to be able to operate the dial.
TheLikeableRider -TLR I think I prefer the way the Vario Cases work on the GS... I just would want to take the chance of having stuff fall out because I had to unzip the case first. But heck to each his own, I am glad that they work for you. Ride safe.... and isn’t it time to get the S1000R? Or maybe the new S1000RR hmmmm. LOL
Look up "how to open zip with a pen" on youtube. The lock doesn't make it any harder to open and then close it back.
It's more of a quick deterrent! If people want to get in any pannier system, then they well.
@@thelikeablerider8800 When a thief can open it faster then the owner with the correct combination then it's a really bad security. What is even worse you can ride away and discover you was robbed later, because visually there will be no signs.
Don't understand why you would want to add racking to a bike that has mounts for factory integrated panniers? In the USA they come as standard on the SDGT, guess in the UK and elsewhere its a cheaper option as I understand they don't come as standard.

A comparison to the KTM ones would be good...comparable in price and no extra frame..although have heard KTMs are not the best..
Unfortunately I don't have a set of the KTM panniers available to compare them to. They don't come with the bike as standard here in germany, and because I'd also heard the problems people had with them, I was reluctant to pay the 800 euros they were asking for them.
TheLikeableRider no dramas am I the same boat brought an ex-Demo with panniers and heard a few negative things about the ktm ones. Prob just stick to my roll top bag..have a sw rack on order...
