- We did an experiment. We wanted to see exactly how different a rotary machine went up against the Speedy 300 flexx laser. So we tested both units on the same brass plated name tag. Can you spot the difference?

What settings were you running to get that brass to etch? We run a 50w on highest setting and were not able to get that good of an etch. Is our machine not powerful enough?
what is the liquid you are using and will it be useful on 24k gold plating?
Is there a good way to judge when a material is too shiny or will operator just get a knack after some trial error period
If you are going for a deeper etch in the metal, can the laser engraver do it or would the cnc engraver be better?
How deep was the laser cutting?
Oh I forgot to ask, can you do a fine diamond scratch engrave on your laser, I was also wondering if you can do 3d contour carving on the Trotec like 3d coins of someones profile, you know 3d work?
+Mark Di Saverio You can, you would need to create the artwork in 3D Programs like Artcam, as a greyscale image and them click "Relief Mode" in your Job Control (Trotec) Program.

How did you get the brass (after laser) to oxidize in black?
I'm working with brass burial urns - they cannot be marked by Cermark due to a lacquer coating, however as per the video, it appears as you guys oxidized after engraving.
Any help would be appreciated.

I am indeed.. I was actually speaking with a Trotec technician earlier today and he informed me that because I am engraving on pure metal, it may not be possible.. I'm using a CO2 engraver at 40W and I don't think we have enough power to make an impression on the material, so the oxidizing wouldn't even take place.

Hi yes we did use a fiber laser on this one. Stainless steel doesn't really oxidize, we wouldn't recommend it.

Please clear my ignorance. Laser engraver "only Mark the plate here" meanwhile Rotary Engraving "engrave physically the plate showed" May some one light me?
Will 60Watt CO2 Laser engrave? It will be depending of Brass, steel or aluminum?
Hi Ed, it has to be the Fiber (or Flexx) version of our machine to be able to engrave on brass or other metals that are not anodized aluminum!

How deep do your devices engrave into the surface? I am contemplating either an existing CNC tabletop ready-to-go machine, versus options. Machine would need to be totally self-contained, meet any OSHA requirements and no EXTERNAL blowers, pumps water baths, long warmup time, plumbing or venting. I am looking to improve on the mechanical engraving option, a 30 year old design. But merely etching is not enough. I need to go as deep as impact stamping of a hand-stamp. Am I still within the realm of reality?
City Lock a polytechnikey llc company Hi there! Engraving depth will depend on the laser power and materials iself. If you’re talking metal the its’s 0.007” - 0.009”. Other materials you can go much deeper with mutiple passes.
The only requirement is a filter unit or you can vent it outside.

Yes..the laser doesnt actually engrave remove material...the rotary does...rotary looks a lot nicer since it has depth
