- I did it! I got out of the RAT RACE! I retired after 25 years as a high school teacher! I gave everything I owned away, packed a backpack and got a one way ticket to Pattaya, Thailand!
I have so much to share. The first being where I have lived for the first month. I rented a condo at the EDGE in Central Pattaya for 30 days. I hope this video shows how nice it really is. Please leave a comment if you have any questions, like and subscribe.

I use to work near Pattaya so I rented various condos (4) during my 14 years there. It’s best to deal with the direct owner or go to the manager in the particular condo who may know which condos are available. Some are not listed;thus this is why you need to go in person and ask ( looking professional or “smart casual”- not with beach flip-flood & a tank top). You will get a better rent price if you tell them you are long time -1 year contract. Going through a real estate agent will cost you more. If your condo rents out “weekly” like an Airbnb- stay away from those. The holidayers will trash the pool, party until 2…3…4 am in their room and if you’re single, you may not want scream kids at the pool if your condo is also renting out rooms like a hotel. Electric and water is always more expensive in these condos than living in a housing village btw. The new condos look great but many are cheaply built. Be sure the apartment has solid walls, and good water pressure. Make sure the condo isn’t next to an open beer bar or dance club that is open until 3..4am in the morning. You can survive in Pattaya without having a car. Using the baht bus and walking ( good exercise) will get you around. And it’s so easy to hop on a bus and go to Bangkok ( get off once you see the Skytrain station before Ekemai bus station.
How exciting to see other older American guys finally realizing we CAN have a better life and not pay a fortune for it! I sold my business in LA, my home and will be there in March! I have an English friend in Jomtien, and he says he loves it! Hope to have my own YT channel as well! Subscribed!

I have lived there for 6 months, and the pool area is very nice, BUT the rooms are very small and you can speak with your neighbors trough the wall. The first day my neighbor took a shower, I thought my bathroom had a water leak, and you can hear everything from the bars in the street. This place is very nice if you need a hotel, but if you need a condo for long stay, I would never recommend this place. You will hear everything your neighbors are doing.
I agree with you brother. I just needed a place to stay to get my journey started. I don’t regret staying there… But, I wouldn’t stay there again! 😊

Thanks for posting, these condo tours are great for anyone considering the move (still 3 years for me 😔). Those unused condos could have Chinese owners who aren’t allowed to travel yet. Place looks like it was built for Airbnb!
You pretty much nailed it. This past October I stayed at the Edge for a week and the Base for a week. The Edge is spectacular. The unit I stayed at in the Base was a disaster. And you are correct. There is just a little too much action in that area to be able to just relax. I enjoyed my time there and would do it again in a heartbeat, but if I were to retire there, it would probably be in the Jomtien area. And they have a Kiss restaurant too! What great food.

Liked the video. I just left after a 2 week stay. 1 week at The Base and 1 week at The Edge. Liked the edge, but didn't like not having a balcony. Looked in Jomtien myself and found it to be more comfort, less noise, and better prices/sqft. I'm looking to head down that journey by the end of the year. Just need to get rid of a few things.

Cheers for that. You probably did overpay by about 5k baht, but without knowing the deposit its difficult to say for sure, and we are starting to head into high season. Still, you have only just landed and you will soon learn the ropes.
That condo complex was built on the site of a very good little hotel called Diana Inn, which holds many happy memories for tourists - me included!.

My ex gf had a one bedroom there-the pool-jacuzzi is incredible

Yes! That is who I booked with! They have several rentals on that floor! I’m sure the rest will be fine. I was in room 591 I believe. I hope this helps! 😊

I just retired as well, originally from Detroit, lived in Las Vegas for the past 23 years.
I found a great place right in the middle between Pattaya and Jomtien on the main drag bus route, "Grande Caribbean Condo Resort" Great Location, for 13,000 baht a month ($341.39) long term. I've been here for a month in one of the other condos, I found it on Agoda. It came to $11 a day!!! It's quite here, just far enough away from the action to have piece and quite. GREAT POOL!

Living in Jomtien over 2 years, suits me fine, live near the bus station for Bangkok Airport, takes less than 2 hours. Personally I like the older condos like the View Talay’s, have very large swimming pools and the studios are around 48sqm, some even bigger, with decent sized balconies, each one is slightly different and some are modernised, much better value for money imo!

HI Roy, I used to live in the View Talay, and loved it. That was 08. Now, I'm retired early (62) Is it possible to rent a room there as of Dec 2022 for around 10k/month? I'm very simple, single, don't need AC...just basic, with fan, maybe electric cooker? Thanks for any help. ;-)

Looks really nice but you can get bigger places for less money. The Soi that runs up the side of the Edge is called Soi Diana. The Diana hotel used to be where the Edge is.

Interesting video .. looks beautiful . Just shows the only thing stopping pple from changing lives is their own fear .. there are a lot of pple saying condos are cheap but can I ask do you have to rent for a certain time ? And do you have to pay a large deposit .. also did you get the condo while in Thailand or in the us ? Looking at these places from a very cold Cumbria in the U.K. ! .. my son whose 27 travels all over and he tells me the lifestyle .. how long can you stay I thailand without working?

Watch the utilities when you do a longer lease. Government rate or 4.2b or whatever will be noticeably different than getting hosed for 9b a unit on power. If you miss Mexican food try the all you can eat lunch buffet across the street at Beefeaters (weekends only).

I am still trying to figure it out! I have made many mistakes! I also learn something new everyday. The biggest advice I could give you is be flexible and have an open mind! Also I used MOTs Services! For my visa , bank account and driver’s license. They were a huge help and got me on the right path.

You are supposed to have 800,000 bhat in a Thai bank that you can not spend. I found a way around it! I am going to ask the agent if I can share the information or not. I may do a whole video on this topic. If you email me I will give you their contact info. Thank you for the support.

He charges $19 a month to join his website full of information, which I can't afford, but his videos on youtube living in different countries are wonderful.

Can you tell us how you did it from scratch?. Does one need thousands in the bank? I have no savings at 65. Long story I won't discuss here. And with the U.S. being so damn expensive, have learned from another channel that retiring overseas or South America is the way to go. My SS payment should be about $1800-1900 a month when I retire with a pension of about $259. I'm curious about needing to carry Medicare Part B overseas and also hospitalization etc. How is one covered if something happens? I'm eager to retire and wondering if I should start getting the paperwork done now

I sold my house about 6 years ago and bought 7 rentals! I have a great property manager that takes care of everything! I live off the rentals and don’t even have to touch my pension! I’m putting that all in crypto!
I am not sure if I am going to live in Thailand for ever- I really do love it here! I am 100% positive I will not go back to America- unless it is just to visit!

Can I ask which bank and branch you opened your account at in Pattaya, I'm coming in March and am hoping to open an account while there, I hear it is a bit hit and miss and it depends on which bank you go to.

Not at all! I am a very light sleeper and I never heard anything up that high! I heard a lot of weights from about 8 am to 9 pm. But no bar noise-unless I opened all this windows.. 😅
Before you get into anything please learn the language, avoid language schools buy PIMSLEUR it's not expensive and it will change the way you live, it worked for me I lived in cha am for 8 years , I'm now back in the UK. If you don't speak Thai you will become another invisible farang. Cha am is a nice seaside town more relaxed give it a visit. Good luck
