    This guy has the right idea, exactly my plan by 2025. You can buy a 35sqm condo all day long for 40k usd or less with a pool and some sort of gym. That frees up around 300$ a month. 40$ a month max for condo fees, and you are left with food, utilities, insurance and visa fees. I don't drink or smoke or have a sex addiction so I can easy get by on 1k per month with a "massage" per week thrown in there.

I have lost 50 pounds and with the guidance of my doctor, I have eliminated 7 medications (two were Alzheimer’s drugs). I wish you the best with your healthy lifestyle choice.

    When you think about it, Pattaya has relatively little to offer, culturewise, but it is practical. You know its reputation. But you are not forced to go to those kind of pubs, you have a pleasant variety of restaurants, some excessively good condos in all shapes, sizes and prices. From there, you can go easily to Bangkok, to the North, to Issan, to gazillion of pagodas all around the country. Cambodia is easy to reach and so are, by bus or train, Malaysia, Viet-Nam, Laos, Singapore... Indonesia...
    All in all, as a base camp, Pattaya is a great place.

      I rarely go into Pattaya unless i go to my agents with my passport or i'm meeting some friends who have just arrived. IMHO its way too busy and full of not the kind of people who I want to be nearby.

    Not that anyone asked me to defend living in Pattaya Central in or near the entertainment areas but...
    Restfulness- can be found in one's heart and mind...

    I just returned from a month in Thailand including some time in Pattaya. I hear many expats saying they never cook but I think Gary has the right idea. I love Thai food but I also like cooking with good oils and very limited sugar and salt (and no MSG) so I too would be doing much of my own cooking. I also noticed that I wasn't eating many vegetables and just within a month noticed negative changes in my health. While street and restaurant food is a nice change, I wouldn't want to live on it. Even if it's more expensive, I would be cooking.

      There are plenty of vegetables in Thai food. I lived next door to a mall with a food court of 50+ independent Thai food stalls. They'll make anything you want and everything is a dollar lol. Many Thais also grab all of their food out and rent a smaller place with a rice cooker, mini fridge and microwave. this guy had a great deal on his apartment with full kitchen though.

      @sharonla8071 à¸›à¸µà¸—ี่à¹à¸¥à¹‰à¸§ +2

      @GhostofMcAfee You still don't know what oils the food stalls are using. Canola, corn oil and other vegetable oils are very bad for you so having it everyday is a very bad idea. If people feel comfortable eating that, then that's their choice. I'm just saying it wouldn't be mine. You don't need a big kitchen to eat healthy food.

      @nathalia7104 à¸›à¸µà¸—ี่à¹à¸¥à¹‰à¸§

      Fresh vegetables in local markets are really cheap. Don't know about western veggies though since I buy mostly Asian veggies and lettuce. Fresh produce is much cheaper than in the US. Eggs and meat are not much cheaper. When I lived in Thailand I also cooked my own veggies and rice. I bought some cooked food in the market occasionally. I rarely cook meat in my homes (both in the US and BKK). I also bake my own bread because the bread sold in the supermarket sometimes is too sweet for my taste.
      We also have a front yard where my mom can grow her veggies.

    Talking about inflation prices in Thailand, always remember this, yes they are having the 15%-20% increase in some things. But remember living in Thailand and returning to Australia for example or anywhere in the West, it's a increase of 400% + the 15% inflation, rent is 4x as much, restaurant or meals out are 4x as much..etc etc.

    The nice thing about places like Thailand and the Philippines is at least the weather is sometimes pleasant I know that they sometimes do have typhoons and they have the opportunity for other tragedies like flood flooding or something. Although from what I understand for instance in places like Phoenix Arizona where it's 122° f in the shade in the summer. And sometimes gets fairly cold and places like Arizona and California I can get down to 28°. She's a few degrees below freezing even if you're at sea level which don't get me wrong that isn't actually really really cold like Alaska or anything although the Philippines and Thailand is at least somewhat of a pleasant temperature I do understand that it can get extremely humid there although. I have seen many people trying to live as expats in either Thailand or the Philippines and they do seem a bit more affordable although within the last 12 months I actually saw a few places even in Paris and London wear flats that are not very luxurious just bare Bones apartments in either one of those cities run about $1,000 to $900 a month although that doesn't add on to expenses like food and other things. I do understand that Thailand and the Philippines both have very nice places although that can run 1700 sometimes 2,100 a month and there are very accommodating and very luxurious nicer than in some other parts of even the entire world. Although the exchange rate for things that happen in either country it doesn't really matter it could be Thailand Laos Cambodia Vietnam Philippines Indonesia South Korea even Japan the exchange rates can change dramatically and for one reason or another people that are made preside there the countries themselves can choose to change the rules and change it from expats living there because we are guests in their country and the exchange rate can go from one example out of many in the Philippines it was like 60 pesos Filipino pesos and the exchange rate had changed over a bit of time to about 45 or 48 pesos exchange rate the same thing could happen and places like Thailand Laos Cambodia the Philippines South Korea Japan Indonesia etc China even and they are some of the areas that I had mentioned are areas that may be developing and it may increase the cost of living there also there are things regarding an idea called The brick countries which want to back all currencies with gold and as far as I know there are six countries that want to join together to make one currency that is backed by gold because of the idea of the big trading currency only being backed by oil and national debts of many different countries etc. Countries that are well on their way to development like Thailand the Philippines somewhat in the middle of the road almost completely done with development could do things really in a remarkable way to attract businesses industry and corporation which would increase their economies dramatically and make them economic powerhouses it's not too far fetched it could actually happen and a lot of things change within 15 to 20 years although for now it is remarkably nice pleasant places many of them and they are somewhat affordable they are not actually cheap that is somewhat insulting they do have value they are just affordable areas for the time being and will probably continue to be somewhat affordable although it could increase their prices and things can change

    • @VagabondAwake
      @VagabondAwake  à¸›à¸µà¸—ี่à¹à¸¥à¹‰à¸§

      Great question Lamont Taylor,
      As you have probably heard we almost never buy round trip tickets. We move forward slow traveling the world. But some countries require a return ticket or onward flight. But the rules change all the time so don't assume what I am about to tell you is true for any airline or country. You have to check the night before. But is they require a return ticker or onward flight, here is what we do. If so, when you try to board your flight going to the country, with a one-way ticket, the airline will ask for proof of a return flight or an onward flight. We handle this three possible ways. If you can find a refundable ticket a few hours before you board your flight, buy that, and cancel after you clear customs at your destination. If not, buy an onward flight from one of the online companies that offer onward flights. They cost about $12 USD. Just Google the words "Onward Flights" and a few will pop up. But if you decide to buy the $12 onward flight, show up at the airport 3 hours early. We had one refused by the airline once. So that brings up the third way. When your $12 onward flight is refused, step out of line, and log on with your computer or smartphone and buy the cheapest flight you can find exiting the country. For example, we search online for the cheapest ticket to a nearby country, leaving that country. Then you lose much less money than you would if you bought a roundtrip ticket to your home country. Skyscanner is the best place to find cheap tickets in our experience. Some countries will also let you buy an onward train or bus ticket to another country which can be even cheaper. Use RometoRio.com to find those. Best, Dan

      Report where I search for health insurance: vagabondbuddha.com/best-health-insurance-for-ex-pats-in-philippines/
      By the way, once you search for health care you will start seeing more offers for health insurance and travelers insurance when you are online. Health insurance is one of the most dynamic or changing industries in the travel world because so many people around the world are deciding to live or retire outside their home country. So do a search every year before you renew to make sure you have the best available for your personal circumstances because new ones come out every few months.
