All fitted with IANS RC SPARES (ebay uk) SAVFLOW Fuel Tank Header system to stop the Half Tank Lean issue. - Works a Treat ! - บันเทิง
Watching this in 2021 is crazy. This hobby has advanced in technology immensely over the years.

Sadly it caused Nitros to nearly go extinct. Luckily HPI still makes them.
Wow! We bought our son an hpi Savage 21 when they first started being sold in Halfords many years ago. Some years as part of his Christmas presents there would be an up grade of some kind (reversing gears, new springs, steering servo etc and we would sit and take the truck apart and then go out and run it). Still have the truck sitting in my garage and now with a .46 engine but man, hats off to you if you are still running gas these days (i realise your video is over 10 years old) as that noise and all the hassle getting it running is something I dont miss! Its probably the noise that puts me off using it where i live and i have been very tempted to convert it to electric like our RC planes.
Anyway, stumbled across this great video and it brought back memories. Thanks.

Plus it works a treat when your trucks upside down, has a clunk weight tube inside the tank that follows the fuel. (just like in a heli or RC Plane etc.) So now you don't have to "leg it" Quite so fast to right your truck. ( in fact it will run for about 2mins upside down!). You can buy the SavFlow Kit from Ian's RC - Ebay UK - Search for SavFlow.

Awesome video but I was honestly a little surprised to see someone without a pistol grip for a truck. Cool!
You can also foam tape the washers to the underside of the body to make things easier.
I don't know why but this video feels like watching the blue peter special of RC 'bashing'

Hi there. I do like the savage from HPI, its a tough little fella !. That s why i have gone the direction of the Savage Flux this year. I am moving to Brushless, Alas my fun with nitro is now over, and new technology takes over.
Also gone 2.4ghz - which i know i'm a bit late but is way better for glitch free operation. - Currently Converting the new Savage flux's to super tough Flux XL's. All fun !

Hi there - A header tank is a method of sustaining a smooth supply of fuel to a nitro engine. Used on RC helicopters for a while now. The savage is known for a "Half tank Lean" Problem. The surface area of the fuel in the tank greatly reduces as it hits that lip or "hump" thats sits over the Side of the chassis. When the fuel surface area reduces so does the applied pressure per/cm2 hence the fuel starts to slow slightly to the carb, changing your mixture to lean.

Great video. What would you recommend as a throttle servo? Ive had my savage xl 2 weeks and had loads of problems with things breaking and things falling off the other being a faulty servo. I will upgrade the steering servo to the 7955TG

turn the dial on the long stem counter clockwise to make it richer if you want more smoke(and more lubrication) to occur.

Nice vid. I am looking to get into Nitro R/C and have never been satisfied with getting beginner models and I have been looking into the Savage XL mainly because of its size and the Savages durability. You seem be good with these and I was wondering if after I buy the truck itself is there anything else you would recommend buying afterwards? I am just trying to make sure I don't get hit with any extra expenses that I don't know about besides fuel, broken parts, and batteries for the receiver.
Whats the fueling system and the glow plug thing Called cause i want to look into getting one ? Cause I have the Savage X 4.6 big block

Hi - it makes the engine run hotter and hotter, less lubrication as more air content in the Air and Fuel mix. My savs tend to start to splutter and can start to rise in RPM. If not kept in check then you shorten the life of the engine big style.
So one idea is to run the engine slightly rich or boggy for the first half then it kinda evens out later half of tank.
Harder to manage this solution than you think as i found out - where as this little tank just fixes the problem nicely !.

I was thinking the same thing like wtf who uses a actual pump just use a normal gas tank and bottle
that pump set up is what nitro heli and nitro airplanes use. it's pretty nice. what I really like about it is the large battery that's used for the electric pump and the glow plug. I always hated the little hand held glow plug things. seemed to always be dead. I went weeks and weeks without charging the 6 or 12 volt batt
dude its an RC car. Its a hobby and if you really get that buthurt it takes that long you don't deserve to be in the hobby

Get about an extra 5 mins if you empty the header tank- but i never run down the header tank (or try not too) . The idea is to keep the header topped up to keep the thing running even and consistent. Handy if you flip the truck on its back 50 yards out!
Have you checked your clutch springs ? To little tension (weak springs) allows them to fly outward at low RPM and engage to clutch bell walls to early. I once had the same issue, just replace them and try again. Hope this helps.

nice bit of starting kit =] .i've the the savage 3.5 currently in peices becasue the engine is being a crafty fella and not wanting to start i think i;ve cleaned it out but not 100% sure any tips on how to get the perfect start every time?

i need help on idle speeds, i turn the idle screw down, the wheels slow down, but still spin, i keep turning then the rpm is so low it cuts out, is idle meant to be the wheels turn, but not to fast? or have i a problem? thanks
Blimey... Seems a lot of messing around? What happened to just filling it up, sticking a glow starter in and BOOM off you go?

4.6 is alot easier to start up...and 5.9 doesnt hold its tune very well....i recommend the 4.6 for beginners and the 5.9 for advanced...depends what skill u have with tuning

Yea the IRC kit and LST shocks are nice but VERY heavy, iv just ordered the HPI alum big bores and im selling the IRC kit and shocks, hard ano threaded bodies, TiNi shafts etc

Could be many things but ....Maybe check, your tuning ? Air leaks around carb ? Need a bit more info really before i can input. Does it shut off at high revs? Does it not start ? Does it not idle ....???

realy, how the hell do u get it to smoke that much and still run "perfect" i am running bryans 25% - 2500 in my 21/28 engines and they never smoke that much.
