  • Can I breathe some life into this HPI Savage? Watch as I bust a few moves to Ska music, remove and clean a carburettor and fuel lines and try to get this nitro engine fired up after sitting doing nothing for years!!

    I’ve just bought a savage 25 and waiting on delivery. I love keeping the old ones running . I currently have 3 old girls and much prefer the older ones.

    Hi Tim, What a great video ! and to see such an old model being brought back to life after so many years !! It puts a huge smile on our faces at HPI to see people like you getting the enjoyment out of the hobby.
    Hopefully we will see many more years of the Savage to come,,, It's still going strong,, and fingers crossed will only get stronger..

      I love bringing the old ones back!!
      One of my latest uploads I go through the first production Team Associated Rc8 buggy and breathe life back into it!!
      Actually gonna take it a few laps of the track this weekend, watch out for that one and see how it performs compared to the modern stuff. Thanks for watching 💪🏼

    Just went thru all of this last year with my Savage 25. Thankfully I took the batteries out of it before it sat for as long as it did.
    I put the same Nimh hump pack as you did in the receiver box. A suggestion on that: get an on/off switch that has an extra "female" connection. That way you can charge the receiver pack without having to remove and reinstall it, cause we all know how much "fun" it is cramming everything back in there, and now, trying to do so with a battery that doesn't exactly fit perfect. I hope the battery in mine never sees the light of day ever again. 🎉
    If you ever need wheels and tires for it, the ones from a T-maxx fit perfectly.
    You can also just plug the exhaust with your finger and give the starter a few blips to prime the carburetor. I dont really like the taste of Nitro lol
    These were seriously the toughest 1/8th scale trucks ever made. You can expect to break a servo, but you really have to try hard to kill one of these! Mine still has the original engine and ill can start it up right now.

    I’m reviving an old savage that has a dynamite.28 in it. Has sat since 2011 or 2012. Buddy gave it to us, as he’s not into monster trucks anymore. I’m looking forward to ripping it against our 4s Kyosho usa 1 😁

    • @TimsRcsurgery
      @TimsRcsurgery  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you just go to your local hobby shop and buy a compatible transmitter and receiver, doesn’t need to be an HPI one, basically any TX with matching RX will do

  • @MrCibalus
    @MrCibalus 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I just got one of these. It was covered with sticky dust :)
    Before any other step i like to know what spray you are using for cleaning carb, fuel lines.... ? Some Wurth ?

    • @TimsRcsurgery
      @TimsRcsurgery  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I just use Wurth brake cleaner, but sometimes the fuel lines rot and go kinda brittle or start cracking. If this is the case then just renew the fuel tube, it’s not expensive from your local hobby shop. Good luck getting it up and running 😃

    • @TimsRcsurgery
      @TimsRcsurgery  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      First thing first, is there good engine compression? If so, clean out fuel tank, fuel lines and carb, new glow plug and fresh fuel. Prime the engine with fuel and should fire straight up 😃

      Could be clutch sticking too.
      Don’t try and tune the engine until it’s at normal operating temperature, then start with tuning high end needle, then the low end. Don’t go too lean or you could burn out a plug or worse, damage the engine!
      Make sure your air filter is clean with fresh filter oil 👍
