Found this just in time. Rear diff just went out - great video. Side note...like the November Rain acoustic.
Hey! Thank you for the info! I was having a hard time shimming those diffs, that trick does it!
Yes
It fit and It can survive the hardest bashing. I personally use XL axles on my Flux.
Thank you so much on this very informative video 🙏
My internals does break every time even normal driving or a standing backflip. I did everything right. I took the instructions and assembled it step by step.
I bought new internals and my cups dont have any play.
I added 1 big shim on each side.
And small shims on every small gears. I dont feel any resistance or locking up. But after driving of 2 packs of lipos the gears start to strip slowly under load.
I have upgraded diffcup from hotracing and spiral gears from hotracing.
Thank you for putting this together, much appreciated.
I really loved your video. Great stuff! Thanks for posting.
Great info vid very well put out respect for thinking of doing it this way.
That jump was probably the best rc jump I've seen.
Awesome video thanks help alot new to rc should front and rear match
awesome video. very well done. very easy to follow along.
Good tips! was sad when gears in dif broke but now im looking forward to upgrading with hot bodies gears, thanks
thanks for the great videos they a great help ,Keep up the great work.
TY, Btw, im working on a complete how to jump guide with all steps from normal jums to misty front to back flip... It may help you too :)
Very helpful video but I think you need to update your video. there are two parts that you suggest which have been discontinued. First one is the diff case washer #86599, its discontinued what shall i use now? next one is the GPM hardened bevel gears, they are also discontinued, do you have anything new to suggest?
Going to fix my buddy's diff's in his savage... This video is great. The other tire doesn't spin when he spins the opposite tire so he probably has a problem with his spider gears.
Great tutorial !!!
Thanks a lot Savagejunky for your work! Very useful, as I gonna buy an Savi flux too.
And you are an amazing basher too !!!! RESPEKT !!!!!!
I enjoy your videos...
Greetings from Luxembourg
Thanks, good information i need to know!
Thanks this helps me so much!!
awesome tutorial
Great video thanks.
I personally mesure the stock spider gear and the hot bodies ones, and they are exactly the same. The diference was 0,001 inch (Extremely small). install just one gasket should be enough, but due to the ``tolerance stack`` you may need to install 2. Try with 1 first. Glad to save you money :)
+1 great vids, keep going strong.
So you put some shims on the side close to the ring gear or both left and right? My HPI bullet diff has a lot of play on the diff housing
The SKU number is HBSC9901 and the Manufacturer number is 8101-1. Both numbers will lead to the exact same gears. It may be confusing to use the 2 numbers, so i just put a little warning on the video. Thank you for the informationand for watching .
Good info...im on my way to rebuild my savage flux
Forma I really need to change my trans to the one you recommend that is direct to the spur gear? How convenient is it?
Very helpful thank you . Wish the parts for this were easy to find still :-(
1) Did you upgrade the castle link version? (Sometimes, update on castle link cause this problem)
2) Inside the differential box, look at the small gear between the drive shaft and the differential itself. It can be easy to miss that break (1 tooth is missing)
When you try to wheelie, what the truck does? Is both back wheel turning? Do you ear bizarre noise etc?
Does Hpi Savage Flux HP have a bulletproof diffs installed from factory ?
May i know what weight of the diff oil suggested for normal backyard bashing? thanks
can i use 43/13 in my savage flux? i think the ball bearings are difrent , may cause something in the bulkhead, thanks a lot from venezuela
I found myself humming along. LOL
Hi bro. Just to check with you, can the xl axles be use for x4.6. Thanks
+1 your videos are soo useful¡¡¡¡¡
I think you meant to say 8101-1 for the hard steel diff gears.
can you get the savage xs and bash that i want to see what you can do
2day my middle-size gear cracked in half :D Thanks for help :)
Is 30k differential oil 30'000 cps differential oil?
Hi SJ!! I'm still doing some maintenance on my flux. i just shimmed the diffs and i'd like to know if is necessary to have a little of shimming on the tranny aswell??!! the top part moves a lot side by side, the underneath part moves also but a lot less. There is a very little movement on the spur gear's shaf. Until now both tranny and spur gear' shaft haven't bothered me in anyway. Before leaving the truck like it is now i prefered asking to you. By the time i broke the HP102692 i became more carefull. Thanks a lot for any answer you will give. Looking forward!!Davide
Great video , really helpful for new savage lovers . I have a question can I put marine grease instead of diff oil ??
Post more video about it
mayod111 I’m not an expert, but I think that grease is too thick for RC diff. Grease is perfect for big massive gear like between the pinion and the outside of the differential… But for inside, gears are very small and turn super-fast. I suggest you to use the 30k-50k diff oil like HPI recommend.
Thanks SavageJunky and have a great Bash . :D
+1 I like your Videos too =)
Nice flight in the intro! :) What suspension setup do you have, managing such a nice landing from that height?
complete setting in my video 4 (shock/body)
i use the 4 original big bore with 35wt shock oil and hpi red spring
Can I build it on a E-savage ?
HPI recommend 30 000wt in their differential. Everyone i know uses 30 000 to 50 000 wt. I`ve try both and i personally didnt see any difference. If you still can choose, go for the official HPI suggestion (30 000wt), but anything between 30 and 50 is very good.
@450hp202turbo I've close vote for about 8 month and as soon as I open vote, it took him 12 hrs to load my video with neg feedback. I could just block him like I did on the past year, but that guy did that to many other people too... I do tutorial to help people, and to be honest, warning people about him is a must to my opinion. I did reload allot videos because many search video with a good % of feedback... A tutorial with 3 thumbs up and 5 thumbs down is not interesting to many people :( tx
I have an HPI savage 3.5 and i have to fix my rear defferential, do this works on my savage?
sigurd mikalsen Yes. Parts are different, but concept is exactly the same.
+1111111111111111. these videos are extremely helpful. dont know why someone would try to mess with you like that
You need to change it for HD diff and shim it correctly.
I again SJ!! I just broke the pinion gear and the spur gear on the diff (rear one). I have the hp102692 and i have never used the flux with the hp102246, but i have some diff spur gears with 43 tooth. I just ordered a new Machined Bulletproof Diff Bevel Gear, hp102692, but i was thinking i can use also old stock gears just to avoid having them wasted and unused, naturally in the case i break another hp102692, i only need some pinion gear. the question is this: what differences you found between old and new gears, regarding speed, Handling, jumping and doing wheelies?? thanks in advance and looking forword any answer!!
Write whatever you may write
Davide
MrDavide1976 The only difference you will see with the old differential gear is the run time ;)… For me, the original pinion gear last about 5 min. You can use them because if a tooth break, it can’t damages anything near. I just suggest you to not be too hard with your truck until you receive the BP gears. Forget wheelies and jumping with the stock gears lol.For the BP gear hpi102692, I suggest you to take a close look at your bulkhead. Usually, when you break a pinion gear, it’s because your bulkhead has a crack, but you can only see it when the gear are pushing. Completely remove your bulkhead, clean it and try to force it with your hands to see if there is a weakness. Also take a look at the side bearing.
SavageJunkyOK, i just can't stay without doing wheelies and jumping, i didn't buy the flux to have a stroll, i bought it for other reasons ;-) I've already checked and replaced my bulkhead because i was not sure about his reliability. It had two threads complitely stripped, i'm talking about the shorter of the four screws you need to unscrew to reach the diff. I've used the truck in that condition for a while. When i was replacing the bulk i gave a look at it but i didn't see anything wrong except for the threads, and i didn't test it pushing the gears because i didn't know that was the way to find some cracks. The hypothesis i made were these: bulk (replaced); shimming the diff, because it needs to be shimmed (i'm waiting for the washers i've just ordered); last but not least, maybe i fucked up during jumping, actually it appends to me to keep on the throttle when touching the ground, expecially when doing small jumps. Condider that i also broke a tooth on this: hp86084.....
i keep breaking the part #102692 any recommendations on something stronger
#102246 is 43/13 = 3.30 and #102692 is 29/9 = 3.22 (1% difference) . No problem for a RC truck. Even with a street car you won`t see any difference.
Hi SJ!! when you say: "HPI recommend 30 000wt in their differential. Everyone i know uses 30 000 to 50 000 wt. I`ve try both and i personally didnt see any difference", you mean you put the same diff oil in both diffs. usually they say you need to put a thicker one in the front and a lighter one in the rear....
MrDavide1976 I can’t help you on that one, I tried all setting: 30/30, 30/50, 50/30
and 50/50 and didn’t see any difference… HPI recommend 30 on Diff, so that is
what I use.
Great video. I keep breaking my bevel gear in the rear. i just upgraded it to the new one and five min later took off three teeth...
JDOGG549 Something is wrong with the differential. Remove it and look for crack on the plastic bulkhead. Sometime, the bulkhead crack, but you cant see it. Take a close look to the bulkhead.
g 'n r November Rain thanks man
November Rain
Lol... I also cant find it... anyway, here is my setting:
Cutoff : Auto Li-Po 3.3 V/Cell
Break amount : 40%
Drag Brake : 0%
Punch : 50%
Reverse : 40%
Sensorless Motor tming: Lowest (Important for the temp)
Rest is as Defaults
@hobbymadness I really want one but I can't even afford to repair my 2 HP lol.
My tires and wheels dont spin freely. If people have heavy diff oil they wont spin free at all.
Love the videos great info that really helps out ,by the way who the guy being a pest id love to know incase I subscribe to him Suomi can unsubscribe , thanks for the vids savagejunky
I realy dont know... I rarely break one, but i have to admit that a stronger gear could be good. If you find one, plz msg me, i would like to test stronger diff gear.
That gear usually break because of a nearby problem... look if everyhing is corectly shimmed, if the bulkhead is ok etc... Is your shock setting correct ? Does the HPI 85234 skid plate hit the ground hard on landing ?
Troubleshoot: Exchange the front and rear differential (and bulkheads after). May help you to locate the problem.
@BOSSRC48 The best part in all this is that he pretends to be a victim... He has been kicked from minimum 3 different forums and I know too that he did load negative feedback of minimum 5 other person (Probably way more)... But he is a victim, he never did anything wrong lol ... He thinks he is one of the best moviemaker on internet but, seriously, if you remove the 10$ firework and the 700$high FPS camera, he's video are 95% basic back flip with very bad landing... Thank you for watching!
why didnt you simply block him so he can not comment ??
@SavageJunky too bad
@heyboy100abe He is jealous that I won the Home movie 2010. 1 day after I won the contest, he went to the home movie video and loads the comment section with constructive comment like: He's video suck, he is a very bad driver, he has no skills etc... I told him that I don’t care about him and BOOM! Few hours after, 9 more negative feedback on all my video!
BTW, note that he did that to many other people. Harass people seem to be one of he's favorite hobby...
Sure. I`m on youtube and on forum to help people. you can msg me here or to my e-mail : Savagejunky@hotmail.com
Your pinion gear is shimmed to much!
thanks for your answer it is right shimming but it is not bulled proof
nice video ;D
nice video i like all of them i have the savage x and i have rpoblemes with the liitle gear on the diff outside it brokes very often because it isnt bullet proof have yo a guid for me ? thumps up !!!
Hi you said HBSC9901 but showed HBSC8101-1 which is it and would that fit on savage 4.6? Thanks
