    Thank you for this excellent and comprehensive demo and explanation. I have one question - if your camera is set up to shoot in a log profile, do you put a lut on the Ninja V before activating false colors? Thanks again!

    Haha.. I just purchased my Ninja V a few nonths ago and always wondered what the false color feature was all about until i came across your video. Thanx for the great explanation. I'm nailing my exposures consistently now. Don't use histogram or zebra as often as i used to. Cheers from Aotearoa.

    Wow this is really well done! Not easy at first glance, but you solved that! One point of confusion is the scale. All 3 grey shades are identical in the scale. I think the point is just that they're grey. After your clip, I know to look for 3 shades of grey in the image. I used to just look for peach and green. Superb!!!

    I have question pls ,if I turn on false Colors on the Ninja v5 and work with play with my variable nd filter would that nail exposure?

  • @PARISONFIRE
    @PARISONFIRE ปีที่แล้ว +1

    i wished atomos would change false colors for easyer identification. all this little gray nuances are kinda hard to differ. a good exposure in the 50-75 range should be green, under that dark green to dark grey and above 75 it goes yellow to red for overexposed. this would be far better to read in my opinion. please consider, thanks.

    Wow -Thank You, Great explainer. I just started using False Colors ·(after years of wondering what they are!). It's a great way to
    teach this by doing what you do here, actually go through the false color reading and changing light / ISO, etc. I find it better than using the Zebra. It gives you a more holistic "feeling" for whether or not you have good lighting for skin tone.I agree PINK / Medium Grey / Green are the best zone for skin tone. One related issue, which you touch on, is the corresponding IRE levels. You mention 70% as "correct". 2 things: I find that for lighter / Caucasian skin tones, 60% is my zone. I think that the generally recommended percentage has actually come down in recent years.This is due, I think, to changing image capture technology. Also, important to note, darker / olive skin tones seem to require LOWER IRE levels. For me, I might go from 60% for a Caucasian / lighter skin tone and down to 45% for a darker skin tone. Do you cover this (different IRE levels, depending on skin tone) in any of your TH-cam videos? Thanks Again.

    • @DesireeRodriguez

      I don't have a video that just covers IRE. I briefly touch upon it in another video I have about how to use the waveform monitor on the Ninja V that you can watch here. th-cam.com/video/onwqdLMYaAA/w-d-xo.html

    Great video. I have a question. If recording SLOG 3 but using a Monitor LUT (not baking it in), when I activate the LUT on the Ninja V do I now use false colors to expose for the LUT? How does that work?

    Thanks for this Desiree. How do you utilize false colors when filming with your Sony A7siii in S-Log 3? I ask because most people say to overexpose +2 stops with S-Log 3. In that case, for instance, are you ok with yellows appearing in your false colors? And do you avoid blues at all costs?

    • @DesireeRodriguez
      @DesireeRodriguez  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on the look I'm going for. Sometimes I'm ok with the yellows and blues appearing on the screen. I usually switch back and forth between the false colors and the normal screen to see if those areas are too bright or dark based on the look I want.

    Hi Desiree I have another question. Are you shooting log or one of the profiles on your Panasonic. I have a GH5 and now I use my G86 mostly. Is there a difference in my targets, my color targets and percentages when shooting log one of the other profiles like natural or CineD

    Hi, if we turn on a LUT on the Ninja V, and turn on false color, will it read the exposure taking into consideration the LUT?

  • @ratt57
    @ratt57 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is really a great video, thank you! If you're lighting a scene to look like a subject is partially in darkness, would using the false color feature be pointless?

    • @DesireeRodriguez
      @DesireeRodriguez  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can still use it to make sure that part of your subject will be visible on camera and not too dark.

    Is there a way to fix the aspect ratio in the Ninja V monitor? Customer Service is unable to figure out this issue for me. I fixed this setting months ago, so that the black bars are at the top and bottom of the finish recording. Somehow, I hit something in the settings maybe by accident, and now the black bars are on the right and left side of the finish recording. I have been trying diligently to fix this issue and nothing is working.

    Great video thank you. I am having all sorts of results trying to follow SLOG3 exposure on the MM of +1.7 to +2.0, and I am just not getting results correctly. I did see a TH-camr suggest false colours as the MM takes into account the whole frame rather than specific areas of the shot. I have one question for you. If you imagine I am recording outside middle of the afternoon, and taking some video of my daughter running around. Do I focus on the False Colours for her Skin Tones and ignore if the surrounding colours are over exposed to nail the Skin Tones? or do I try to cover as much of the moving shot as possible. I will be honest, I am fine indoors or without sunshine being involved when recording, my results are always pretty good, but whenever the sun is out no matter what time of day, I have issues and I know it's because I am exposing incorrectly. Any advice for moving shots during the Day for this kind of situation but using False Colours would be greatly appreciated. thanks again for a great video.

    • @DesireeRodriguez
      @DesireeRodriguez  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If your daughter is the main focus of your shot then focus on the false colors for her skin. I would also underexpose her by one stop because it's easier to recover the details if she is underexposed vs being overexposed. If you are filming outside in full sun I would recommend putting an ND filter on your lens as well since that will block out a lot of the brightness from the sun and allow you to get the correct exposure.

    Hi,这是Ninja V的假色曝光刻度尺(标有具体的IRE数值范围),而Atomos shogun 7.的假色刻度尺没有标具体的IRE数值范围。Ninja V的数值能否跟shogun 7通用?

    • @DesireeRodriguez
      @DesireeRodriguez  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The IRE ranges are very similar. Some value ranges maybe different but overall they follow the official IRE color chart.

  • @MichielHollanders
    @MichielHollanders 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Nice.. but it seems to me a bit strange how they have put several grey colors in the range in between other colors. I wonder why they did that. It would be easier to have a few tints of grey lets say between blue and green.

  • @RavikantRai21490
    @RavikantRai21490 ปีที่แล้ว

    The false colour chart on most of these monitors is pointlessly complex. I find the SmallHD ones are the absolute best scales that also feel intuitive. It is really not hard for these manufacturers to add similar to their devices too.

  • @real.estate.video.

    So dumb. Using a confusing colour for the 60% area which is very close to the top two colours, indicating overexposure. Could’ve used pale green instead to keep the consistency rather than making it look like a mind fk.
