- Using a waveform monitor can be intimidating to use, if you don't know what to look for. In this video, I show you how to read the waveform monitor on a Ninja V monitor and how it helps with getting the right exposure for your shot.

Thanks very helpful.
So far you seem to be the only one who has done this video thoroughly on waveform, some do but its false color bla bla bla thank you !
You're welcome!
Great video with detailed and easy to understand explanations. I’ve had a Ninja 5 for years, just have been using it as a display for outside. Started using it a few months back to do some recording with my Z6 II to record log files and edit them. The color correction bit is a whole other process so in just used it for a monitor again or to record externally to the larger SSD I have for it. I’ve watched Gerald Undone’s video multiple times but I think all the info was just too much at 1 time. Watched your false color video, liked how clear you were and the pace of the explanation than discovered this one while perusing your channel. You have another subscriber. Thanks for this and keep up the good work!
Thank you so much! I'm glad it was helpful for you.
Thanks Desiree, great video 🎬
Great explanation. I now understand how this waveform works! The only feedback I have is that by showing the Ninja monitor overlayed on top of footage of the Ninja monitor can make things harder to understand. For example, one might wrongly think that the way to fix clipping in your shot is to turn the Brightness/Backlight on the monitor down.
Helpful vid
Thanks
Glad it helped!
Thank you !
Excellent video.
Really well done, thanks!

@@DesireeRodriguez you're welcome i did not know about the left and right thing
Does this feature exist in the older Atomos 7" monitors like the inferno and shogun?
Yes it's available on those older Atomos monitors as well.
What cable do you use to power the ninja v on a dtap battery? (not the overpriced atomos option 😂)
Overpriced might depend on whatever your budget is, but I ordered my dtap on Amazon at a reasonable cost. I found one with the screw-on adapter, but the male end was too long, and did not allow the screw adapter to reach the threads. I returned it, and just got the plug-in type and it works just as good. Each of them only costed about $12.00. Hope this helps you.
@@bluestilling101 yes, thank you!!
Can you view the waveform while the deck is recording?
Yes you can.
@@DesireeRodriguez Great. Thanks for the reply!
Great video series. How can we donate you some cash for this great tutorial? Please activate the super thanks button. One question: How important is white ballance wth the grey card? do I really need to do that the whole time? Its extremely annyoing to pull out the grey card, spot on the middle grey and setup the white ballance. Using the waveform and false color should be enough right?
Thank you! Getting a custom white balance using a grey card is the best option but you can use the waveform and false color.
Im using the Ninja V with my bmpcc 4K and for some reason my waveform never goes past 80 IRE or all the way down to 0 even when the image is obviously blown out or it’s completely dark. I’ve tried changing different settings on my camera and monitor but nothing seems to help. Is there something I’m missing? If anyone can help me I appreciate the help
