    Thank you SO MUCH. I was totally lost about how to do this. I am painting SIX wooden chairs, but this makes me feel like I can do this!! My one BIG question is: where do I buy the plastic "tent" you used to keep paint from going everywhere? And how many days did this take you? Thanks again! :-)

    Thank you for this video - definitely felt more confident going into this project after watching your video! My upcycled kitchen chairs look great! I used the lamp black general finishes paint and the top coat just like you did. The HomeRight sprayer worked great too and the Wagner paint tent. Also rigged up a turning base by using a cheap kitchen lazy susan and gluing a square plywood board to it so that I could set the chairs on the board and spin them as I sprayed. [I could only do two at a time in the tent] Thanks!

    That paint color looks nice!! I'm definitely going to do this with our dining chairs that most def need a little tlc. The spray booth & paint sprayer are going on my list to buy too! Thank you for sharing! Have a good one & take care.
    BTW, your little boy is adorable 😍. Reminded me of my 4yr old with his golden curly locks

      My genuis hubby had the great idea to "trim" our boys hair. His version of trimming is not my version. Needless to say he wound up giving him a "fade" on the bottom 1/3 of his head about 1mth ago. Yup, I'm furious just thinking about it 🤣. I told him he better pray to God it grows back the same 🤣

    Thank you for this. I have dining chairs that need to be painted and I keep putting it off! I have the same spray painter and paint shelter. My painter doesn’t have the different tips. Just one. Hmmm. Not sure why?
    I just need to get that shelter and sprayer out and get busy! 😊

    Thank you. This was so helpful. How much paint did you go through for the four chairs? How long did chairs need to sit before use?

    • @LovelyEtc
      @LovelyEtc  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I used most of a quart of paint (General Finishes Milk Paint in lamp black.) At the end, I let them sit for a week before use. You could use them sooner if you are very careful, but I like to give it as much time as possible.

  • @lindahurley6831
    @lindahurley6831 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Between coats, do you have to disassemble the paint sprayer, put the paint|topcoat back in the can, and clean the parts and nozzle? Do you need to have many extra nozzles and filters for the paint sprayer? I am finding your video inspiring! I just want to make sure I understand the sprayer process before I invest in one.

    • @LovelyEtc
      @LovelyEtc  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question! You don't have to take the paint out of the paint sprayer between coats. It comes with a lid that you can screw onto the paint holder to save it for later. If you are doing the next coat within a few hours, you also don't need to clean out the paint sprayer between coats. But I would definitely clean out the sprayer if it is going to be sitting overnight before the next coat. And you don't necessarily need a lot of nozzles and such for your paint sprayer - usually whatever you need will come with your sprayer. I haven't bought anything extra for mine - just the things it came with.

    Thanks for the video. I have a question. What if the chairs are red and want to paint them white? Do I have to strip the paint, or can I just sand it?

    • @LovelyEtc
      @LovelyEtc  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You usually do not have to strip off old paint before repainting a new color. The only reason you would need to strip the paint first is if there are a lot of layers of paint built up. It will be really important to use primer though. Primer will help the white paint cover the red in less coats.

    Hi I’m painting 4 chairs, would you recommend getting the quart or pint size of paint and top coat?

    • @LovelyEtc
      @LovelyEtc  ปีที่แล้ว

      I would get a quart to be safe. A pint might not be quite enough, plus a quart is usually quite a bit cheaper per oz. than a pint.

  • @kerihoron8756
    @kerihoron8756 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi. Some questions if you can help! How much milk paint generally would I need for 6 dining room table ladder chairs? Also, I looked at a can of milk paint, and it says for spray application to strain with a medium mesh filter. What is that - and do you have to do that? I didn't see this step in your video. It also says "spray wet films at 3-5 mil thickness; HVLP 1.8-2.9mm" - what is this?? Last, can you get milk paint in CA? Home Depot says not available in CA. Thank you for the help.

    • @LovelyEtc
      @LovelyEtc  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      First, if using milk paint, be sure to use General Finishes Milk Paint. It is actually an acrylic paint that works really well for painting furniture. There are other milk paints that are also great but are primarily for creating a very textured, vintage finish. You generally can't get General Finishes Milk paint at stores like Lowes and Home Depot but you can buy it online or get it at more specialized stores like RockFab or WoodCraft. You can check their website to see where you can buy it near you. It shouldn't be a problem getting it in California. For 6 chairs, a quart might be enough, but you might need a bit more than a quart. I did not strain my milk paint with mesh but I did stir it well before painting. And as far as the other spraying specifications, just make sure you use a sprayer and tip that are appropriate for spraying paint (as opposed to stain or sealer). You can get more technical about it, but you usually don't have to. I hope that helps!

    Question. After you paint your chairs, how do they stay clean. I hesitate to paint them a white color and find out they get dirty super fast and it's hard to clean since it's paint you're cleaning, not wood.

    • @LovelyEtc
      @LovelyEtc  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is pretty easy to clean painted furniture, especially if it is sealed with a topcoat. I have several pieces of painted furniture including a dining table with white legs and I wipe them down whenever needed with a damp paper towel or mild cleaner.

    @yanliu4154 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank you for video! Are you recommend the same top coat on the dinner table?

    • @LovelyEtc
      @LovelyEtc  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, General Finishes High Performance Topcoat is my go to for furniture. It's super easy to work with and gives a really durable finish.

  • @dougmacgregor5882
    @dougmacgregor5882 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Using the above technique...do you get 'pooling' or runs of paint? I do!! Any advice???

    • @LovelyEtc
      @LovelyEtc  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, I don't usually have a problem with runs. If you are getting pools and drips, the paint may be too thin. If you've added water or a thinner, try adding much less. Also be sure to stir it really well before spraying it. The other possible problem might be if the sprayer is pointing at one spot for too long. It's really important to keep the paint sprayer moving and aim to do several very thin coats of paint rather than a couple thicker coats. Good luck!

  • @pingaface11

    so the reason you didnt have to thin the paint out is because of the paint or the paint sprayer your using

    • @LovelyEtc
      @LovelyEtc  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't have to thin paint with this paint sprayer. But the sprayers that do require you to thin paint usually have instructions on how to do it.
