Think the main reasons Caz survived falling off the rig trying to save Gregor were because a) churning water has much lower surface tension than standing water, resulting in a softer impact, and b) Brodie and Douglas were probably already working right next to where Caz went in, giving them enough time to fish him out and get him dry and warm before hypothermia had a chance to set in.
rewatching this playthrough for the second time in two weeks and man. the intro really hits different after seeing where everything goes... this game is heartbreaking
Your happiness over the accents is infectious - I’m excited to watch more of this and learn more about the game (as for the guy with the English accent using Scots words, reckon he’s an english guy who moved up to Scotland or lives there? Sometimes people pick up words from those around them?)
I live in Northumberland, and we're basically a hybrid of the English and the Scots (we've been swung between both's control for centuries) we often use a mix of Scots and English language, especially in the more northern parts of the county. There's also a large Scottish population here, so more modern Scots has rubbed off on us to some extent too. Not saying he's Northumbrian, but it's just a potential possibility or factor.
I watched another TH-camr play this then saw someone recommend your playthrough. I was immediately like “a Scot playing this?! Fuck yeah!” (Random side note: fuck yeah, join your union!)
I never was aware how different the Scottish & English accents were!!! This game is so awesome... I play alot of Grand strategy games and have played as UK (Vic 2/3) and England (EU3/4)... But this game is so good
So glad to be seeing this on a playthrough - I first watched you playing Hollowbody and found that video thoroughly enjoyable, earned a subscribe from me!
Saw an American girl play through this halfway and then got the game myself. As an Englishman I was very happy and impressed to hear a ton of genuine Scots doing great voice work. Excellent to see the rest of the UK get the spotlight for a change. Very different from the usual Yank hero/English bad guy we often get in games and the 1975 setting (3 years before I was born) is refreshing; I vaguely remember the style of some places in the early-mid 80s being very similar. I played this from start to finish on Game Pass, then went and bought it on Steam because I was so impressed that I felt that I needed to pay for it (not sure if that's a good show of character or not? lol) and to get the achievements. The writing for this game is great and consistent, the score is unsettling and subtle and the designs are all as good as the voice acting, IMO. People complained that it was a bit short and linear but TBH to me it's an interactive story, not an adventure game, and it does that really well. I got the gist of some of the Scottish words but...doh? Bahookie? Bampot? Clatty (I assume this is similar to gobby)? Mair? And yeah, I also hated Addir on sight, lol. I can't help but think that Caz might have possibly kept his job if he'd not been so gobby to Rennick, not that it mattered. Very much enjoyed watching a Scotsman enjoying a game voiced by countrymen. Nice work here, subbed!
Thanks so much for the lovely comment! Glad you enjoyed the game so much and appreciate you watching this playthrough and subbing too! For some Scots translation: Bahookie = arse Bampot = Nutter/Headcase You're spot on with Clatty and I'd need the context for 'Mair' as it can be quite an archaic word for officer of the law/courts or could just be 'More'
Just finished this episode! I absolutely love it so far and your commentary definitely makes it less nailbiting for me (esp for the water tank portion - I’m glad you didn’t get killed by a man named Gibbo). This game really knows how to set up fear and high stakes without huge jumpscares (granted this is episode one 😅)

Ganked by Gibbo: A Scottish Romance Story
i suspect the addair hate group will have many proud members
Rennick: I run a tight ship *ship is literally falling apart*
Drill got penetrative... and the hole is loose.
27:44 - 27:55 It's like a game of telephone between you and Caz. Haha, it seems they really did get the Scottish dialogue right!

What a phenomenal game.. It hit so many important horror factors - emotion, suspense and swearing.. 🤬 😊
at least you didn't get killed by a man called Gibbo
First minute of the game, and the VA work is already phenomenal. Love it!
Only a minute in and already subscribed.
I guess the Scots just have a natural advantage to charisma.

Aye, definitely been around Scottish folk to pick up some Scots, it's a really nice touch!

It is everything I wanted it to be!

Oh I absolutely love this game. Everything about it is fantastic
This was fantastic! This intro is already so tense and intriguing I can't wait to uncover more next time.

Not usually interested in this type of game, but this one has me quite riveted.
Thanks!
Woah Joel, this is my first ever Superthanks, thanks so much!

I _hate_ when your vision goes all blotchy. Such a bad vibe.
