Generally, light activities, such as walking, can be resumed after 1-2 weeks, but more intense exercises should be avoided for 6-8 weeks or until cleared by the surgeon. However, the extent to which exercise can help depends on the severity of the rectocele. In mild cases, consistent pelvic floor exercises might reduce symptoms and improve muscle tone. Avoid constipation and straining during bowel movements by eating a high-fiber diet, staying hydrated, and possibly using stool softeners if needed. Maintaining a healthy weight can reduce the pressure on your pelvic floor. Minimize activities that involve heavy lifting or straining, which can exacerbate the condition.
