You guys are awesome, thank you for taking feedback and PRETTY PLEASE on the favorites menu option! Honestly, that would be pretty dope on the Hero 11 Black as well. I pretty much use three video modes, a hyper lapse mode and a photo mode. Would be awesome to have a favorites menu to be able to just flip through those!
@gopro please give us mic adapter support! That seems like a no brainer. If it’s possible, why would you not want to make it as versatile as possible?! Let our recordings be the best they can possibly be!
Just a FYI, the latest firmware for the mini adds support for the pro mic adapter dongle. I tested it yesterday and it works pretty sweet, pass thru power also works so you can record for hours and hours. they also fixed the 8 second auto power off. You can now do the same settings as the standard Hero 11. The mic adapter makes the mini a LOT more useful.
If you look at the price for Black Friday GoPro HERO 11 is a better deal. GoPro HERO 11 Black is $349.99 and GoPro HERO 11 Mini $299.99. I have GoPro HEOR 11 and thought about buying MIni but the price difference is not that much so better to buy HERO 11 Black.
So I was able to use the Mini on the Kayak twice before it got too cold here in Wisconsin and the biggest things I found that I would like are: 1. Pro mic adapter support. While the stick on wind deadcats work, they are not as good as a external mic with a dead cat. 2. Related to mic. since it has a extra mount that you might not need on the bottom it would make a perfect mounting spot for a small mic adapter holder using the 4 screws for the prong mount. 3. increase the auto time off or let us select it like in the full size GP 11. 4. Fix the freezing issue that happens sometimes. I didn't experience it while recording but it has locked up a couple of times usually when I plug in a charger.
The Lord has spoken! @GoPro give us the option to run a lav mic into the mini, it makes perfect sense for stuff like snowboarding where you don't care about not having a screen but being able to talk while you shred would be awesome!
Thank you for addressing the question about audio dongle not working, it was my main question. I intend to use it for moto vlogging given the small profile on a helmet but I'll give the mini a skip until we see if GoPro cave to the pressure
So here is my part of the comment flood about the missing mic adapter support! I'm a motovlogger, and without the support for the microphone adapter, the HERO11 Black Mini turns from an almost perfect motovlogging camera to a useless brick for me. So please GoPro - add support for the microphone adapter to the Mini!
As a workaround for the missing presets I suggest you just flash gopro labs firmware and use the QR control app, which let‘s you set up presets and change settings without connecting the mini to the app all the time!

Agreed on quick video modes switching. GoPro please please please we need this, like double button press switches video modes in favourites list. I need one mode for pov shot from the helmet, then I need to switch into linear with horizon levelling for blog style or shooting b roll, then switch back into pov super view. When I’m in the snow with the gloves it’s a challenge to switch the modes.
Was watching this video this morning and to my surprise, there was a mini update available this afternoon and what did it add... audio support!!! Nice job gopro!
Happy birthday, Lord David. And GoPro, we NEED external audio capabilities! And put a 3.5mm mic jack in the Hero 12 like a normal person would do, so you can delete the entire audio adaptor which is huge and pointless when you can just add a 3.5mm jack to the camera.
Amen! What he said! If a person needs to take it under water sell them an underwater case! A camera for motorsport vlogging must have audio. Add a 3.5mm jack!
@CycleChris they could put it under the battery door or something. I always have it plugged in to a powerbank, so it's not waterproof already. And underwater = no sound essentially anyways.. so there's the solution!

Lord Manning... Thank you for reading... and answering our questions! You are the Bomb. I am one of those who wants the external mic option for just the reason you mentioned. I want to use it with a helmet and a lav mic. Its smaller and lighter and i love the two different mounting point options for the chin of my helmet... Come on @GoPro ! Give the people what they want!
Something that would be great is if GoPro could make a smaller mic adapter like the one Cynova made for the original Osmo Action. Something like that for the Mini would be amazing. There is a need for a external mic for the Mini for situations like on a boat/kayak etc where a dead cat could be used. I still have not seen any foam windslayers for the mini yet from 3rd parties. that might work also as long as it did not cause the cam to overheat.
Pass thru USB door with a gasket for water resistance when using external power would be super handy. Guess they have that available but it's not discounted for subscription holders and shipping for a 5 oz package is 15 bucks LOL 🤣
My main reason in wanting a mini was for motovlogging because of its smaller size, but I won’t now because no external audio. Also wish it had a removable battery.
Great job on the video David! Thanks for making it. If it's just a matter of firmware, I'm really scratching my head as to why they wouldn't have just enabled compatibility with their own audio adapter right out of the box unless they're banking on people just getting the inevitable media mod for the Mini. And honestly, if they came out with a media mod that had a shotgun mic on it AND a 3.5mm input, it could serve the purpose of the audio adapter but keep with the more compact nature of this camera. And if they made it to where you could record off of both the shotgun and mic input in 2-channel mode, that would sure be swell for people wandering around doing street interviews and the like. Or moto-vloggers that want to record an in-helmet audio track as well as the sounds of the trails and other bikes around them.
Love all of these ideas! A MediaMod for the mini would be cool, but I won't be holding my breath for it. GoPro's perspective on the mini seems to be that it's their small/durable/mount in tight spots camera and for everything else, there's the full sized Hero 11 Black. What I would LOVE to see though is what you mentioned about the dual channel audio pickup. Would be rad to plug the MediaMod in and be able to record left channel from the MediaMod mic and the right channel from the 3.5mm jack🙌
I have the hero 9 with media mod and the lens mod. I was going to buy the mini. But if there is no way to get a mic in signal to the camera I’ll just hold of. Sure it works on my hero 9 but that is a big camera with the media mod on top of my helmet. Come on Gopro don’t you ever ask your customers what they are looking for in an action cam?
I have been watching Minni videos and one showed switching modes by taking a picture of a icon for each mode saved in the phones gallery and pointing the minni at the photo and it would switch settings.
The GoPro mini have the potential to be the best motorcycle POV vlog/streaming mount IF it work with external mic and an extra battery at the same time. Please GoPro, look what people have been doing with closed helmets to have image and voice recording and some cases real time streaming POV vlog.
Pretty excited about finally having a small GoPro again. Diving - Surfing - MTB - Snowboarding. Im not impressed with the price though. It's to close to the 11 Black. Would have been nice to have the 11 Black around 499 and this around 350 at full price. Then sales from there.
I'm with you Sean, I think that $250 would be the sweet spot for this camera. Like I mention in the video though, screens are such cheap components, so removing those doesn't really reduce the cost much. Sensors and processors are the most expensive components and both the Mini and standard Hero 11 share those

Finally bought one and I hate it. Updated the software. Now it turns on and immediately turns back off. Bought a new memory card. Formatted. Now doesn’t even stay on along enough to connect the app. Nice to hear their products still suck :/
Thank you David. Is there any chance that upcoming firmware will come up with a live shooting preview in the app while using camera throughout instead of preview for just setup the shot before the roll
I just got my mini 11 set up today, and I was BLOWN away that I can't set different video modes. Like they basically removed one of the most useful features for no reason... who's buying the Mini 11 to film a car or a stars? This decision is completely mind blowing, and probably the reason they're not really selling any of these cameras (besides the fact that its not much smaller or lighter than a regular 11).
I would be happy if gopro added in new update firmware a mic and video mode as simple settings. I already buy hero 11mini its suit for me a rugged and waterproof capability. I hope I’m the next to review this actions camera. Have a nice day.😊
Thanks for the review. I love my mini. Just click, stick on the helmet, and go. One issue is when I plug it into the comp, it doesn't download it straight to go pro quick on my desktop. There is no MTP setting. So I have to remove the card to transfer. Any ideas??.
Great video, David! I would just love if @GoPro would just allow the use of wired external microphones (like a standard USB-C wired headset) by directly plugging them into the camera. I don't get why you need an adapter to make that work...
Hi David just an update I received from GoPro on Facebook. They say the hero 11 mini isn’t compatible with the max lens mod. I’ve asked for clarification if this will be compatible with a software version update. Awaiting their reply.
Is there an extension cord that reach into the cigarette lighter so I don’t have to charge it while I’m driving , planning to install it on the tacoma windshield mount.
I was not convinced until almost your last comment... it's good with a drone... if you know you might crash it... ah... then it changed for me. That seems the best use, otherwise the Hero 11 is better, imo... thanks Lord David... lol
Yeah Maria, I'm with you, I love having screens to be able to frame up my shots! But I guess if you know you're about to put a GoPro through a rough time, this is the one to grab for the job!
David you really nailed it.. perfect idea with the star thing in the menu. and your review confirmed my thought that is not what i would consider as a mini.. 120g no valid setting, no real usability of quik app.. was deciding between the 2 and no.. ill gonfor the full one. and my fpv quad will keep on rocking session5 for tough fly and the full without battery for cinematic. thanks! i was forgetting the surfer: call him Lord Manning
Being small would be the perfect helmet cam, but it's a bummer it doesn't have external mic support. And yes not having the screens means you need all the help you can get through software like: favorite modes , shorcut options etc.
Hey there 😊 Do you know how many years the inbuilt battery is supposed to live? I’m environmentally conscious and would hate to throw away a perfectly fine camera because the non removable battery died . Many thaaanks😊
Add the ability to increase the auto power off time, 10 seconds is way to short. Actually I would like mine set to never auto power off as I use it with external power.
OriginalDobo says the mounts weigh (at least the back one, which he took off) 10g, so when using the Mini on an Avata and mounting on top, there's no reason to have the back mount, flush or not, and it saves weight/adds battery life. He's looking at making another mount that will work without either mount bracket, so you save 20g, a lot! Doesn't the "editable" (little pencil icon to the right) Standard video mode mean that you can edit the resolution, frame rate, etc? Huh...??? That's weird. From what you're saying, you can only change the modes manually on camera, then it lets you select the pre-selected "standard" mode that was preset... on camera! What a pain. Simple firmware update. Go get 'em, David! Your Star Rating idea is excellent BTW .
Do you have infos about getting the (USB) WebCam mode working with the 11 Mini? When I installed the GoPro WebCam app under Windows, it says, the camera is not compatible for using it as USB webcam ("needs GoPro 8 or higher"). The camera displays, that it is connected to USB, so it detects it's connected to a PC. The menu system does not provide an option to change the USB mode.
i think it would be nice if you had mentioned the qr code mode, where you point the camera to a qr code on your phone and it changes modes, no need for the quick app
Hi David thanks for the video. Just bought the 11 mini with lens mod. My question is this. All the other models show lens mod in the menu. But when I attach the lens mod on the 11 mini there is no option for the mod and the view what it captures is fisheyed with dark edges like as if the camera isn’t being told that there’s a lens mod fitted. Am I missing a selection in the menu ? Or is the mini 11 not yet compatible for the lens mod ? I updated the software when I opened it as usual Thanks. From the U.K.
You aren’t missing anything, you just need to wait for the firmware to make it work. Just like for some of their past cameras, support for the MAX lens mod wasn’t in the camera at launch, but it’ll come soon👍
@@DavidManningvlog cheers David. But to be fair there isn’t one reviewer saying this in their reviews of the camera. Perhaps an upfront disclaimer that it’s yet to be compatible would be great. Also if the 9 and ten is anything to go by. Why is it when you leave the camera to charge that the camera doesn’t wake up at all unless you press both buttons for a while. Then it decides to wake up , and whilst I’m on a rant. I turn the camera on using the main power button not the record button and within 5-10 seconds it switches itself off unless you’re quick enough to get the app working then it stays switched on. There is no standby time adjustment like they’re is on it’s big brother. No screen to alter this obviously but also not in the menu either. Just my initial observations.

Right, so now at this time. The mini is more expensive here. Ofc this is due to some local discounts but still. I pay more for less. Right its small and its rugged, but no sound adapter? No presets? And once the battery dies its practically useless? I was really looking forward to taking this with me on the bike for 23 season, but external mic is kinda a must for me. Please Gopro✌️
So if you broke both screens on the Standard 11, it would still have more functionality that the Mini version? Why are there 2 flavours of the App, why not just grey-out the ones you can't use on the Mini vs the Standard like other systems do? Seems odd that you wouldn't be able to tell the Mini to 'Take a Picture' from within the app either...
Good afternoon I have gopro hero 11 mini black and I am having a hard time with getting it to link up with the QRcode that I made using the the app called QRControl? I pointed the gopro to the code n nothing happens. Even TH-cam it as well. all I’m trying to do is zoom closer on the GoPro mini so I can record high school baseball games
Hi! Useful content! How fast is horizon lock to keep the horizon flat? In the case of kitesurf line mount there are fast swings and 360 rotations. Is the HERO11 Black Mini capable of doing that also? Has anyone tested it? THANKS🙏
Considering it has no screens and can't use the mic dongle (both were known before release) GoPro should have put in a 3.5mm jack, considering there is no battery as well there isn't the excuse that there isn't room behind the door. All cameras should have a mic jack honestly just like all phones should have a headphone jack, considering the price of these devices it is almost criminal. On the note of price the mini should be $200 less than the fullsize, and $300 if you do the service thing from GoPro.
There is a pass through door on GoPro web shop😁 I’m very disappointed about it does support the pro 3.5mm adapter. Only reason I returned it after a few days. Didn’t even open the pack. If the make the update I might buy it again. Sometime GoPro should listen more to the community, what we like, then think what the what the community need. Thank for the video by the way.
I've got a question for ya Sir - or should I say Lord, not specifically about this model tho . . . With the (is it 8x7 ?) filming ratio that gopro offers within the 11 series, does that allow for any reframing a la what you get with the insta360 go2 ? Currently shopping around for a decent action cam, 3 months in now and my brain is completely fried . . . Each brand have their problems. Only gonna be used for skateboarding without a selfie stick btw. Thanx in advance 😉
It sure does! But it works a little different than the Go2's version. With the Go2, to have that ability, you film in their Pro mode, then bring those files into the app, then export either 16:9 horizontal or 9:16 vertical video from there. On the GoPro, you're just filming in 8:7 aspect ratio, which is almost a square. You can then take that file directly into your editing program and just frame it within either a 16:9 or 9:16 timeline and crop to the portion of the frame you like
@@DavidManningvlog Now that is good info right there M'lud but as the Go2 within Pro mode shoots fisheye, whilst within the app you can scroll (for example - to centralize the shot) to change the viewpoint. Then, you would export in your 16:9 1:1 or 9:16. I have just got a new reduced price action 2 as a temporary stop gap so will investigate this 8:7 ratio reframing. I'm sortta torn between the Hero 11 / Insta RS Twin with the DJI 3 a bit ho-hum now I've got an Action 2. I must make a decision based upon the "Point in the general direction of , shoot , deal it with it later" versatility of the insta but with accompanying overseas support issues or the Line it Up Good , Shoot it , Pan and Crop later rugged(ness) and perhaps more efficient support from GP (I've never owned one, y'see) Obviously it cannot be a direct question to an impartial reviewer but one does wonder which way perhaps a Lord would lean when confronted with such a dilemma as the Friday of Darkness doth approach. I'll check some of your other vids too ! :)
Lord David, would want to know if this would overheat when this is attached to backpack strap as fpv which would slightly cover the back area of the gopro. (Peak design capture clip)
As in DJI giving a port for the bones to plug into? That would be dope! I love that it's only 54g, but honestly with how large the DJI FPV is, I'm not sure you'll feel a ton of difference between 54g and 132g piggy backing up top. For sure on smaller FPV drones though, the difference would feel more dramatic!

It seems that lately GoPro’s reliability has been in question a fair amount lately. Do you notice any difference with the mini, for example overheating or the system freezing or failure to record the card,etc.
🎉 Favorites or more video presets would be amazing. I don’t think they need all that real estate for star trails and other modes of limited use on the mini. Great review!

What I would LOVE to see though is what you mentioned about the dual channel audio pickup. Would be rad to plug the MediaMod in and be able to record left channel from the MediaMod mic and the right channel from the 3.5mm jack🙌
I have the hero 9 with media mod and the lens mod. I was going to buy the mini. But if there is no way to get a mic in signal to the camera I’ll just hold of. Sure it works on my hero 9 but that is a big camera with the media mod on top of my helmet. Come on Gopro don’t you ever ask your customers what they are looking for in an action cam?
I have been watching Minni videos and one showed switching modes by taking a picture of a icon for each mode saved in the phones gallery and pointing the minni at the photo and it would switch settings.

The GoPro mini have the potential to be the best motorcycle POV vlog/streaming mount IF it work with external mic and an extra battery at the same time. Please GoPro, look what people have been doing with closed helmets to have image and voice recording and some cases real time streaming POV vlog.

Pretty excited about finally having a small GoPro again. Diving - Surfing - MTB - Snowboarding. Im not impressed with the price though. It's to close to the 11 Black. Would have been nice to have the 11 Black around 499 and this around 350 at full price. Then sales from there.
I'm with you Sean, I think that $250 would be the sweet spot for this camera. Like I mention in the video though, screens are such cheap components, so removing those doesn't really reduce the cost much. Sensors and processors are the most expensive components and both the Mini and standard Hero 11 share those

Finally bought one and I hate it. Updated the software. Now it turns on and immediately turns back off. Bought a new memory card. Formatted. Now doesn’t even stay on along enough to connect the app. Nice to hear their products still suck :/

I just got my mini 11 set up today, and I was BLOWN away that I can't set different video modes. Like they basically removed one of the most useful features for no reason... who's buying the Mini 11 to film a car or a stars? This decision is completely mind blowing, and probably the reason they're not really selling any of these cameras (besides the fact that its not much smaller or lighter than a regular 11).
I would be happy if gopro added in new update firmware a mic and video mode as simple settings. I already buy hero 11mini its suit for me a rugged and waterproof capability. I hope I’m the next to review this actions camera. Have a nice day.😊

Hi David just an update I received from GoPro on Facebook. They say the hero 11 mini isn’t compatible with the max lens mod. I’ve asked for clarification if this will be compatible with a software version update. Awaiting their reply.
Is there an extension cord that reach into the cigarette lighter so I don’t have to charge it while I’m driving , planning to install it on the tacoma windshield mount.

may be the remote can be useful to control mini, with addition no need to reconnect since battery never pull out.
Being small would be the perfect helmet cam, but it's a bummer it doesn't have external mic support. And yes not having the screens means you need all the help you can get through software like: favorite modes , shorcut options etc.

Add the ability to increase the auto power off time, 10 seconds is way to short. Actually I would like mine set to never auto power off as I use it with external power.
OriginalDobo says the mounts weigh (at least the back one, which he took off) 10g, so when using the Mini on an Avata and mounting on top, there's no reason to have the back mount, flush or not, and it saves weight/adds battery life. He's looking at making another mount that will work without either mount bracket, so you save 20g, a lot!
Doesn't the "editable" (little pencil icon to the right) Standard video mode mean that you can edit the resolution, frame rate, etc? Huh...??? That's weird. From what you're saying, you can only change the modes manually on camera, then it lets you select the pre-selected "standard" mode that was preset... on camera! What a pain. Simple firmware update. Do you have infos about getting the (USB) WebCam mode working with the 11 Mini? When I installed the GoPro WebCam app under Windows, it says, the camera is not compatible for using it as USB webcam ("needs GoPro 8 or higher"). The camera displays, that it is connected to USB, so it detects it's connected to a PC.
The menu system does not provide an option to change the USB mode.
i think it would be nice if you had mentioned the qr code mode, where you point the camera to a qr code on your phone and it changes modes, no need for the quick app
That feature isn’t available on the default firmware, you have to install an “experimental” firmware to get that feature
Hi David thanks for the video. Just bought the 11 mini with lens mod.
My question is this. All the other models show lens mod in the menu. But when I attach the lens mod on the 11 mini there is no option for the mod and the view what it captures is fisheyed with dark edges like as if the camera isn’t being told that there’s a lens mod fitted.
Am I missing a selection in the menu ? Or is the mini 11 not yet compatible for the lens mod ?

You aren’t missing anything, you just need to wait for the firmware to make it work. Just like for some of their past cameras, support for the MAX lens mod wasn’t in the camera at launch, but it’ll come soon👍
@@DavidManningvlog cheers David. But to be fair there isn’t one reviewer saying this in their reviews of the camera. Perhaps an upfront disclaimer that it’s yet to be compatible would be great.
Also if the 9 and ten is anything to go by. Why is it when you leave the camera to charge that the camera doesn’t wake up at all unless you press both buttons for a while. Then it decides to wake up , and whilst I’m on a rant. I turn the camera on using the main power button not the record button and within 5-10 seconds it switches itself off unless you’re quick enough to get the app working then it stays switched on.
There is no standby time adjustment like they’re is on it’s big brother. No screen to alter this obviously but also not in the menu either.
Just my initial observations.

For me this Mini is unusable. Just 20grams lighter and currently only 50€ difference...i can't understand why you should buy this and don't pick the 11 Black standard.
Also my mini overheats very fast and freezes a lot of times...😵
The main reason to grab the Mini is that it's much more crash proof. For FPV pilots or mountain bikers, it's for sure the right choice!

Right, so now at this time. The mini is more expensive here. Ofc this is due to some local discounts but still. I pay more for less. Right its small and its rugged, but no sound adapter? No presets? And once the battery dies its practically useless? I was really looking forward to taking this with me on the bike for 23 season, but external mic is kinda a must for me. Please Gopro✌️

So if you broke both screens on the Standard 11, it would still have more functionality that the Mini version? Why are there 2 flavours of the App, why not just grey-out the ones you can't use on the Mini vs the Standard like other systems do? Seems odd that you wouldn't be able to tell the Mini to 'Take a Picture' from within the app either...

Considering it has no screens and can't use the mic dongle (both were known before release) GoPro should have put in a 3.5mm jack, considering there is no battery as well there isn't the excuse that there isn't room behind the door. All cameras should have a mic jack honestly just like all phones should have a headphone jack, considering the price of these devices it is almost criminal. On the note of price the mini should be $200 less than the fullsize, and $300 if you do the service thing from GoPro.

It sure does! But it works a little different than the Go2's version. With the Go2, to have that ability, you film in their Pro mode, then bring those files into the app, then export either 16:9 horizontal or 9:16 vertical video from there. On the GoPro, you're just filming in 8:7 aspect ratio, which is almost a square. You can then take that file directly into your editing program and just frame it within either a 16:9 or 9:16 timeline and crop to the portion of the frame you like
@@DavidManningvlog Now that is good info right there M'lud but as the Go2 within Pro mode shoots fisheye, whilst within the app you can scroll (for example - to centralize the shot) to change the viewpoint. Then, you would export in your 16:9 1:1 or 9:16. I have just got a new reduced price action 2 as a temporary stop gap so will investigate this 8:7 ratio reframing. I'm sortta torn between the Hero 11 / Insta RS Twin with the DJI 3 a bit ho-hum now I've got an Action 2.
I must make a decision based upon the "Point in the general direction of , shoot , deal it with it later" versatility of the insta but with accompanying overseas support issues or the Line it Up Good , Shoot it , Pan and Crop later rugged(ness) and perhaps more efficient support from GP (I've never owned one, y'see)
Obviously it cannot be a direct question to an impartial reviewer but one does wonder which way perhaps a Lord would lean when confronted with such a dilemma as the Friday of Darkness doth approach.

Lord David - any thoughts on DJI brining the Bones into the Hero 11 for a better FPV scenario?
As in DJI giving a port for the bones to plug into? That would be dope! I love that it's only 54g, but honestly with how large the DJI FPV is, I'm not sure you'll feel a ton of difference between 54g and 132g piggy backing up top. For sure on smaller FPV drones though, the difference would feel more dramatic!

It seems that lately GoPro’s reliability has been in question a fair amount lately. Do you notice any difference with the mini, for example overheating or the system freezing or failure to record the card,etc.
